[Q] any kernels with tun.ko for vpn? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

hi - couldn't find this in any of the kernel threads. anyone know if any of the kernels listed for skyrocket include tun.ko for vpn/vpnc? or if there is a way to get tun.ko installed so that i can do a true ipsec vpn session?
thanks

The stock kernel includes it, I am using openvpn just fine from my phone.

You are correct. After some experimentation I found that while vpnc keeps force closing on me when trying to connect, vpnc widget (app) connects just fine. Any ideas?

install iptables on haykuro's 4.5

Hey can some post the .apk for iptables unzipped please so I can install it and get my wifi tethering program working please?
Thanks
Well I got iptables installed but none of the tethering programs work currently.
Anybody been able to get tethering working with haykuros builds?
As far as i can tell Wifi Tether for Root Users work but on first run it showed an error messaging saying that my g1 doesnt have root which it does and gives the choice of wether to override the error or not. The files installed quickly and it started tethering after a while.
WARNING!!!!! your phone msy freeze up when trying to stop the tether and will require removing the battery!
Wifi tether for root users doesn't work for me. The log says iptables or the kernel may need updated.
I've used WiFi Tether and it runs just fine.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I've tried an uninstall and reinstall, I still get the error in the log saying iptables can't initializa, iptables who, iptables or kernel may need updated.
What can I be doing wrong? I've only just installed the latest 4.5 today and I did do a wipe before installing.

I would remove the iptables and other files you copied over manually. Reinstall the wifitether apk and you should be gold. The wifitether apk actually installs the necessary files for you. I didn't have problems updating when I went from the 'manual tether' to this app, but I get lucky like that.
Didn't work for me. Removed the iptables, reinstalled wifi tether, numerous reboots, no joy.
Still have the same error. Wifi tether for root users was the program I tried to use before messing around with iptables. Worked fine for me with jf's roms but no joy today with haykuro 4.5.
Any suggestions?
I too have tried every tether app there is and still haven't had any luck.
Good to know I'm not the only one.
Just a thought, the apps wouldn't require busybox to be installed would they?
I've been having the same issues.
I'm having the same problem. If i fastboot and flash my nandroid backup of jf1.41 it works fine. When I updated to 4.5 it stopped working. I am running my apps off of sd. I uninstalled and downloaded it again to reinstall and i keep getting the iptable error in the log too.

Now that I think of it, I haven't tested the wifi tether in 4.5. I remember it ran no problem with 4.9. I just relinked my sd card for apps and am rebooting. I'll test when it gets back up.
Edit1: arrg, I don't know what I'm running anymore. I guess i'm running 4.5 w/o sdcard cause i created a loop when i relinked my sdcard. Fixing and I'll get back.
I just noticed my 4.5 doesnt have superuser so i opened up droidsans tweak tools and tried to reboot with that to see if my root was working. When i hit the reboot button in droidsans nothing happens either. I am going to try the junefabrics tethering app which doesnt require root and see what happens.
I am on 4.5 and none of the tether apps I tried work. I tried tetherblu, tetherwifi, wifi-tether, anetshare and one more. They all seem to work, but no internet connection once the computer connects to it. I also get the error stated before about updating kernel. Also, I am on the apps-to-sd kernel before the camera-headphones kernel fix so this might be related.
** WOO HOO ** 300th post. I bet at least 3 of them were good posts too!
Damn I hope we can figure this out soon cause my phone is my only net connection for now!
I'm on the 4.5 with camera and audio fix build.
I'm on 4.5 with apps to SD card, and the only tethering app I could get to work was PDAnet. I couldn't get wifi tether to work (got the same error as others about iptables or kernel needs to be upgraded) and Azilink wouldn't work either. However, PDAnet worked great AND it was the easiest to install and set up.
Cool I'll give it a try. How can I download the setup program with my phone?
Does wget work in android?
Cool I can get wget to work through busybox. Could somebody post the download link for pdanet?

[Q] [Solved] Superuser: isn't asking for permissions BUT apps work

I'm confused! I have superuser installed and as of yet no app has asked for permissions; they just work. With the exception of ROM Manager which just freezes (needs long hold on back key). On previous ROMs I've flashed, requests for permissions pop up and you allow/deny etc. I've tried using the updater from the marketplace (force closes) and updating the binary (force closes). Am not able to uninstall superuser. I've turned on/off USB Debugging, fixed permissions, almost everything else I've found on the net.
As apps are working it isn't the end of the world but I'm confused about why they are working and also slightly concerned over the security aspect of apps not asking me and just running.
Apps that work without asking include: Titanium Backup, CPU Master, NSTools, File Explorer
I9020
Matr1x 15 Kernel
Orca 1 RC-0.1 (Drew Garen/BamtauMod)
What version is it? Try flashing version 3.0.7, this was the first to work with ICS if I remember correctly.

Hi,
According to the app it's version 3.0.7 (41).
I should've mentioned that it's an ICS ROM, sorry.

Glad you're happy with it! When ICS came out, we had to wait a week (I think) for the update to make SU work properly. Great work from the dev, as always.

Paranoid Android 3+ 4.2.2

This room has a built-in superuser so yes, it's rooted. But since the superuser is built-in you won't see any superuser app. If you don't like it then you can disable it and use any superuser app, otherwise don't bother cuz it works anyway...

First, install your own superuser, but don't disable the built-in one. Launch your superuser, let him update its binaries if needed, and let him get superuser permissions from the built-in superuser.
Here you go, now you can disable the built-in superuser and use your one.
I did it this way and it worked, so it should be the same for you.
But for now if your superusers are messed just flash again the rom, wipe dalvik and cache and start fresh.
Good luck!

[Q] rooted 4.4.2 - no openvpn clients work at all

Hi i have a problem and i cannot find an answer at all
i have a verizon s3, with 4.4.2 (rooted with towelroot)
i can NOT get any openvpn clients to work at all. the official app, the installers, etc. etc. even the privateinternetaccess app doesnt work.
i can import my ovpn profile, i can enter login and password, but when i hit connect, nothing happens. in any app.none of the openvpn app logs have any errors.
i tried the tun.ko installer, and then tried every app again with no luck.
i tried the "openvpn installer" and it keeps giving me the error that /system is mounted read only, even though i granted su access. if i mount /system as rw in terminal, it mounts fine.
does anyone else have this problem? has anyone fixed it?
i just got this phone off of ebay with the intentions of installing cyanogen, which i am used to, and am BEYOND angry about this bootloader being locked. im really close to going back to my iphone5

I haven't been on my s3 in a long time but I would assume the reason you cant get your vpns to work is because you are currently on ipv6. change it to ipv4 in the apn and try again.

[Completed] SuperUser is not being detected by some apps.

my phone is 100% rooted and has the latest su binary installed.
most of root apps work fine but recently i have faced problems with two apps which are Psiphon and Tasker.
-When i tick "force root tunnel" in psiphon, it says "root mode is not supported for this version of android" and confirmation box of superuser didnt show at all.
(force root tunnel means tunneling the device without using the built-in VPN service API like in android 2.3)
-Tasker does not request for su permission when force kill (root access) is checked.

I solved it.
installing phh needed the latest version of twrp (3.0.2)
after a successfull flash of the zip package (superuser.zip), I lost root access and the old superuser app from chainfire was deleted.
Can you tell me how to install phh step by step?

Do you not have the new superuser app anywhere it should be there. Try installing the app from play store and see

I flashed the superuser.zip again and this time I wiped the dalvik cache. Now i got the root acces back but still the two apps Psiphon and tasker are NOT requesting for su permission while other apps have no problem with it.

The problem is due to missing Tun module which is not available for my device. Galaxy core prime comes with a preloaded Tun module in the kernel and it's not replacable nor compatible with Psiphon.
Old VPN clients do not depend on the built in VPN service API but require a custom Tun module to perform the tunnel in root mode.
As for the tasker, a recommended modification on the build.prop fixed the issue.
Thanks anyway.
