Hey can some post the .apk for iptables unzipped please so I can install it and get my wifi tethering program working please?
Thanks
Well I got iptables installed but none of the tethering programs work currently.
Anybody been able to get tethering working with haykuros builds?
As far as i can tell Wifi Tether for Root Users work but on first run it showed an error messaging saying that my g1 doesnt have root which it does and gives the choice of wether to override the error or not. The files installed quickly and it started tethering after a while.
WARNING!!!!! your phone msy freeze up when trying to stop the tether and will require removing the battery!
Wifi tether for root users doesn't work for me. The log says iptables or the kernel may need updated.
I've used WiFi Tether and it runs just fine.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I've tried an uninstall and reinstall, I still get the error in the log saying iptables can't initializa, iptables who, iptables or kernel may need updated.
What can I be doing wrong? I've only just installed the latest 4.5 today and I did do a wipe before installing.

I would remove the iptables and other files you copied over manually. Reinstall the wifitether apk and you should be gold. The wifitether apk actually installs the necessary files for you. I didn't have problems updating when I went from the 'manual tether' to this app, but I get lucky like that.
Didn't work for me. Removed the iptables, reinstalled wifi tether, numerous reboots, no joy.
Still have the same error. Wifi tether for root users was the program I tried to use before messing around with iptables. Worked fine for me with jf's roms but no joy today with haykuro 4.5.
Any suggestions?
I too have tried every tether app there is and still haven't had any luck.
Good to know I'm not the only one.
Just a thought, the apps wouldn't require busybox to be installed would they?
I've been having the same issues.
I'm having the same problem. If i fastboot and flash my nandroid backup of jf1.41 it works fine. When I updated to 4.5 it stopped working. I am running my apps off of sd. I uninstalled and downloaded it again to reinstall and i keep getting the iptable error in the log too.

Now that I think of it, I haven't tested the wifi tether in 4.5. I remember it ran no problem with 4.9. I just relinked my sd card for apps and am rebooting. I'll test when it gets back up.
Edit1: arrg, I don't know what I'm running anymore. I guess i'm running 4.5 w/o sdcard cause i created a loop when i relinked my sdcard. Fixing and I'll get back.
I just noticed my 4.5 doesnt have superuser so i opened up droidsans tweak tools and tried to reboot with that to see if my root was working. When i hit the reboot button in droidsans nothing happens either. I am going to try the junefabrics tethering app which doesnt require root and see what happens.
I am on 4.5 and none of the tether apps I tried work. I tried tetherblu, tetherwifi, wifi-tether, anetshare and one more. They all seem to work, but no internet connection once the computer connects to it. I also get the error stated before about updating kernel. Also, I am on the apps-to-sd kernel before the camera-headphones kernel fix so this might be related.
** WOO HOO ** 300th post. I bet at least 3 of them were good posts too!
Damn I hope we can figure this out soon cause my phone is my only net connection for now!
I'm on the 4.5 with camera and audio fix build.
I'm on 4.5 with apps to SD card, and the only tethering app I could get to work was PDAnet. I couldn't get wifi tether to work (got the same error as others about iptables or kernel needs to be upgraded) and Azilink wouldn't work either. However, PDAnet worked great AND it was the easiest to install and set up.
Cool I'll give it a try. How can I download the setup program with my phone?
Does wget work in android?
Cool I can get wget to work through busybox. Could somebody post the download link for pdanet?
Has anyone been able to setup a hotmail account using Exchange ActiveSync or IMAP? I hate using POP3 because I end up deleted the same message on different devices.
With my iPhone I was able to setup my hotmail account using ActiveSync with the server name of m.hotmail.com. I've read about other people using that server to setup hotmail using IMAP. When I try to setup my hotmail account on the Inspire the same way as the iPhone, it fails at the final step of creating the account. It actually passes the account verfication step.
I'm using the stock AT&T Inspire ROM with the mail application that came on it. My other Exchange ActiveSync accounts are working fine.
I know with yahoo mail i had to enable ssl because it wasnt working.
I just set my Hotmail up as Exchange and it went through without a hitch. Everything's syncing fine. Full email address as your username, no domain, m.hotmail.com for server, and SSL is checked
I didn't know Hotmail could do this, thanks for making me Google it
Edit: After I said this it looks like it keeps Syncing 4 messages, then dropping them, then syncing them again, on and on...hmm
Deleted the account and tried to set it up again and now it won't go past the Account Name screen. When I click Finish Setup, it eventually gives me an error stating "Failed to create the account. Please try again later." Is that what you're seeing?
Workaround: I just put the email.apk from this thread (http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/135630-vanilla-2-2-mail-apk.html) in /system/app, renamed the stock mail.apk, rebooted, and now I have a different version of the mail app, but I was able to sync 2 exchange accounts (including hotmail). I just deleted messages from my phone and they deleted from server

I was getting the same error as you with the failed to create account.
Do I need to root my device to install that app? I haven't done that yet.

Yea...root is necessary to push this to /system/app
I don't know if you would be able to sideload it or not, but if you did you'd have 2 conflicting mail apps...I really don't know how Android would see this..

when you create account ask for account name enter your yahoo login id, when it shows incoming server u have to select ssl then click next then outgoing select ssl and everything should be all good, if still having problems let me know I will do mine from scratch with step by step.

I've now rooted my phone and I want to try this. I'm in terminal as a superuser and trying to rename the stock Mail.apk file. I'm getting an error that it's read-only. How do you rename a read-only file?

You have to mount the system as R/W. Honestly i'm no ADB expert, so I can't tell you how to do it through there. However, if you get ES File Explorer (free on market), open it, Menu--Settings--Root Options, put a check in Root Explorer and Mount File System. Now ES File Explorer will allow you to navigate all root directories. Go to system/app, find mail.apk, and either delete it, or rename it (i just add an extra extension on the end to confuse it). Once you've done this, download the email.apk i referenced earlier, and copy/paste it from your SD card to system/app (which you should be able to do as long as ES Explorer is still mounted R/W) then restart. Now you should have "Email" app in your app drawer and you can drag it to your main screen (or not) and set it up
I installed ES File Explorer and I cannot seem to enable Root Explorer. When I select that option it prompts for what ROM I'm using and gives me the options for Cyanogen Mod or HiAPK. I'm using a rooted stock ROM and neither of those two options seem to work.

Hmm I use Android Revolution (currently using 4.0, but this has worked on all earlier versions as well) and choose HiAPK and it works without issue.
Here's the adb commands you should be using, if you wanna try it this way (again I'm no adb expert, I found these with a quick google):
Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory where adb is installed (usually sdk\tools), then enter the following commands, 1 at a time)
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
adb pull /system/app/Mail.apk Mail.apk (this should pull it out of system/app and put in in sdk\tools)
adb push /{path to file}/filename /system/app (if the .apk is in sdk\tools, it would be "adb push /Email.apk /system/app")
Edit: I might be making this more difficult than it needs to be. You might be able to just delete your accounts from the current mail app, sideload this email.apk, then setup your accounts using this mail app. I don't know what happens with 2 mail apps (i.e. does one automatically overtake the other, or do you get duplicates?), but maybe it's worth a shot

This doesn't seem to work for me.
Here is what happens.
The first command 'adb shell' returns 'adb: premission denied'
So then I did the SU command to grant Terminal superuser. Superuser was granted. I tried 'adb shell' again and I got 'adb: not found'
I tried the mount command to mount /system as RW and it failed with the message
Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory

Oh you're using Terminal...I was talking about using adb from a command prompt on your computer (even so, I may have still given you bad commands cause I haven't actually done it this way).
Hey man I don't mean to be rude, but I'm going to stop suggesting terminal/adb commands, as I'm not 100% sure what they do and I don't want to suggest something that breaks you. Have you tried Root Explorer? This is a file explorer that will only let you see your system files, but it gives you a nice little "Mount R/W" button that will mount the file system. Unfortunately you can't browse your SD card, so you won't be able to copy/paste the new .apk through Root Explorer, but you can at least rename/remove the old mail.apk, then continue trying to push email.apk (google is going to be a much better instructor than me at this point for push commands)
Until today I didn't know you could do commands from your computer. I just downloaded and installed the Android SDK, so I now have the Windows adb.exe command to try from my computer.
I tried using Root Explorer. I can mount / as r/w, but I cannot mount /system or /system/app as r/w.
I also installed the Android Central Side Load Wonder Machine. I used the command line adb to pull a copy of the original Mail.apk from HTC as a backup. I then tried to install the generic Mail.apk from Android 2.2 with the AC_SWM. It appeared to work, but I noticed that the file size didn't change. The HTC Mail.apk is 763K and the generic version is 600K. I tried the option in AC_SWM to update an existing app and it didn't update it either.
I'm pretty confident that if I can get the original file renamed or deleted I can get the generic version installed. I'll keep reading up on adb commands.
If anyone knows how to remove an app from /system/app on a rooted stock Inspire ROM, please let us know.
If you have root, just search for "Mount /system (rw/ro)" in the market. This app can make /system rw and it even has the option to set it rw at boot.

I installed that app and it fails to mount /system as r/w. When I click the button to mount /system as r/w I get an error.
Sorry
The application Superuser (process com.noshufou.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

There is a bug in superuser. Just open superuser a few times in a row and it will probably work. Otherwise, there is a thread (somewhere here) with a patched superuser.apk file that should resolve that.

It would be superuser's fault. Glad you got it straightened out!
I finally got the generic email application from Android 2.2 installed and sure enough, Hotmail works as an Exchange ActiveSync account.
I do think the HTC mail application looked much nicer. It was easier to switch between accounts. When you went into a message you had up and down arrows for the next and previous messages. With the generic mail application you have to use the back arrow key to go back to the inbox and select another message.
I wish there was a way to change the fonts for the inbox. The read messages are gray on black and are hard to read.
Overall this was a great learning experience for me. I understand a lot more about Android and I fixed the superuser issue that I didn't even know I had.
I'll stick with this verision of the mail program. I'll take the functionality trade-off over the nicer look and feel of the HTC app.
Hello,
Id like to request some support.
I have successfully rooted my galaxy tab (7 inch model, gingerbread) and that seems to be working correctly: I have that super user app install, and every time I launch a root like app (such as shoot me etc..) there's the pop up asking for permission.
Problem comes at the next step: busybox. I have downloaded the busybox installer from the market. Followed the steps... latest message I saw from the app is that everything went smooth, but when I launch apps that require busybox (such as Shark), application says it cant find busybox...
After rebooting, I go again to the busybox installer (I got the two of them now available on the market). Once says I don't have root, which BS, and invites me to go to the super user app and forget the settings about that application. That I do, and doesnt do anything. App request root priveleges, which I grant, but it will still tell me that it doesnt have them.
The second busybox app goes a little further: It gets the root powers (which once again proves my phone is definitely rooted) and it says something like phone is rooted and many copies of busybox were encountered.
Apparently I got more than a single copy. But when I try to "re-install" it, this is what I get: can not install because system is not in read write mode.
And i did remount the system folder with root tools pro but I still get the same message...
So, how could I resolve this situation?
Device: Motorola Droid
ROM: CyanogenMod 6.1.2
Let me know if you need any other info other than this.
1. Cannot update su binary without flashing it from CWM recovery. I am currently up to date with 3.0.3 binary and 3.0.6 apk. See #2 for possible explanation.
2. Everything that calls for root access works except for, what I've noticed, apps that need /system/ and/or its subdirectories to be mounted as rw. *Superuser grants them the privileges, but the apps swear up and down that that isn't the case. Examples: ROM Toolbox, root file managers, etc. *Also, I cannot update busybox. It actually accepts the su privileges, but then fails. I can, however, install it to /mnt/sdcard/, not that that helps me. *There is also an app that has the option of mounting /system/ as rw, and while it says it works, I can't write to the directory or any of its subdirectories from any program. *I have Terminal Emulator, but I don't know enough about it to know what to do if that could help. I've gotten su privileges for it, but it won't let me access /system/. (side note: is there a way to flash busybox from CWM recovery and replace the WLAN files that I need to replace in /system/xbin/ and/or /system/bin/? In other words, since this worked for the su binary, would it work for those? If so, do u know of existing zip files or how I would go about making one?)
3. My wifi connects, tries to establish an ip address, and then is marked disabled and doesn't connect. I currently have it inactive. This has been happening since shortly after installing the CyanogenMod 6.1.2 -- not directly afterwards, but likely after installing and updating all my apps (I didn't install or update any system apps, as I knew not to).
Please let me know if you need to know anything else. I have searched and searched and searched for the answers to this problem, but I can't find it. In a nutshell I can't write to /system unless in recovery, and I can't use wifi at all. I did find some WLAN, etc files to replace the ones in /system with (a supposed wifi fix), but I obviously can't so that without write permissions.
Thank you so much in advance! I've figured out all my other previous issues on my own, but this one is a doozy!
Best,
SNJ
Me too - no mounting rw, busybox pro fails
Hi, I have the same problem on a Galaxy S with CM7.1. It just happened after I updated the last version of busybox pro. My wifi can't connect, everything which needs to mount system as rw fails, root explorer can't even start, and so the installation of busybox pro as well. It shows a huge list of apps which I need to symlink (never asked that before), and after trying installation it says that it appears as a different version of busybox than the one I selected was installed. I wonder if removing all the symlinked apps could do some good instead of leaving the overwrite option checked.
Anyone can help?
thanks
---------- Post added at 12:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 PM ----------
just a small add-on. I tried a different busybox installer, and even if superuser indicated root access was granted, the app shut down telling it didn't detect root access.
???
OK, not really....I decided to do a system restore....bang, now I can only boot in recovery mode, not even the previous version but v.3.0.0.5, and I can't mount a thing, I get messages as unknown volume for path, unable process volume!....Now, how can I in any way wipe all and try to reinstall CM 7.1? phone doesn't get in download mode either.
Try flashing and moving files through adb.
Anyone else using Autostarts on their S6? If yes, are you able to use it?
This is the app i'm talking about:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&hl=en
The app opens fine and the first time you try to disable something Supersu pops up to ask if you want to grant it root access, but after that a white box appears and nothing happens.
Attached a screenshot of that white box.
I've already tried several things but to no avail: flashed a custom kernel so SE is permissive instead of enforcing, deleting the root access and reauthorize it, etc.
It's not lollipop because it works on my Tab S and Note 3 (before) both running Lollipop...
Tried another app as well (forgot the name) and receive a message that root access failed (if i remember correctly). Clean Master and Elixir 2 are doing the job at the moment, but Autostarts is much easier to use for that kind of stuff.
I'm not having root access problems with another apps.

I've not been able to get it to work on 64 bit Lollipop both on my Galaxy S6 and Nexus 9. Wish I knew why!
I will email the developer with the issue.
I the mean time I've started using Myandroidtool which has it also categorised in different events (at boot, connectivity changed, etc.). It's under Receivers Not as good as Autustarts but it's pretty decent.
Anyone get a logcat? Please.
I am adding it to mine via adding the code etc...
So please upload a catlog so I can see and maybe can figure it out.
