[Q] Flash Revolver ICS - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to flash the Revolver ICS on top of 3.11.1.
Do I need to do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset) and then install Revolver ICS?
I have already taken a nandroid backup and also backed up my apps. Will I need to restore the apps after the ICS install?
Thanks

I just flashed Revolver 4 Beta 1 Snapshot 2.
No, you do not need to do a wipe. I just flashed it via CWM, wiped the cache and Davlik cache.
Reboot. Enjoy.

I would to ask, how can I flash from a stock ICS? I can't find a guide for ICS.

You need to first root your device. Search for NachoRoot or ViperMod in the Transformer section. I would use ViperMod option 1. Then you will need to install CWM Recovery (should be a link in the ViperMod thread).
Boot into recovery (shut down, vol down and power for 10-12 seconds, tap VOL UP when prompted to enter RCK.)
Then flash the Revolver ICS ROM. Clear caches. Enjoy. If it is really buggy do a factory data reset and reinstall your apps.
As with any flashing be sure to back up all apps and data before starting the process.

sorry but the vipermod thread is in eee pad transformer android development section? I can't find it.

Uhhh ya....posted this in the wrong place.... but if it helps anyone who is bootlooped cool....sorry for the rest
Try this
Go to the asus download site: and download the proper region firmware
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
Unzip this file and copy the ASUS folder and evreything in it to a MicroSD
copy the file in the /asus/update folder to the root of your microSD and rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE
reboot to recovery (volume down and power then when you see the writing on the top left and corner press volume up)
you should then see an android with gears if this fails you probably have the wrong regional firmware
make sure you have the right firmware
Then you should get the notification triangle. This does not work for the tf101g or slider

It was actually in the general thread. Follow that to root, use recovery installer and install clockwerk. Make sure you make a backup. Then download the ICS rom of your choice, right now either CM9, Android Revolution, or Revolver 4, and flash that. Make sure you check MD5 sums too. I dont flash without doing this since i have a B80 transformer.

[Q] How do I install the Revolver ROM?

I searched this forum a bit and I can't find a nice guide. I am currently running rooted .19 on my TF101, B70KAS. Is it as simple as dropping the ROM on my internal SD and letting it update to the latest Revolver release (based on .21)? Or can I do it with booting into recovery mode? This is my first tablet and I have no clowworkmod on my tablet... do I need to flash that somehow? Where's a guide?
thanks!

I am very familiar with CWM, flashing, nandroid backups, etc. I've had a nexus one for a long long time. I just can't find any good stickies on how to install CWM on my tablet, which I assume is my first step, though I find it odd there are no stickies. On the Nexus One forum there are lots! Where can I learn about installing CWM on my tablet with stock (but rooted) .19 FW?

Search for RecoveryInstaller in the Themes and Apps section.
One click CWM installer, don't get any easier than that.
I had the Same issue coming from the nexus s. the tricky bit is that rom manager does not support the transformer. I've got a galaxy tab 10.1 as well and flashing over a custom recovery was easy as pie.
anyway, what you have to do is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093818)
then you need to install an app (i use reboot2recovery) from the marketplace to get into the custom recovery. i've tried quickboot or rom manager but all it does it take me to a black screen or reboot the device. reboot2recovery will actually drop you into clockworkmod recovery. from there, do your nandroid backup. you'll need an SD card in your transformer for it to actually go ahead with the backup.
aside: from my reading, the backup should backup to internal storage with that modded clockwork. i've never been able to get it to work though. anyway, just use an SD card for now so you can get through the difficult stuff.
so at this point uve done the following:
installed clockwordmod using the first 2 links and installed the reboot2recovery APK to get into recovery.
now you have an SD card in your transformer and you are doing a nandroid backup.
once completed, put the 200+mb revolver rom on the root of your SD card. you may also want to put another kernel. i use the one recommended by revolver.
now just wipe the cache, data, etc as usual. now flash the rom, reboot the system when completed. plug in your gmail account, wifi password etc. and then reinstall the reboot2recovery apk. now reboot to recovery and then flash the kernel. reboot and ure good to go. install revolver parts to allow for additional tweaking and OTA updating.
i got my transformer from bestbuy this thanksgiving and went to revolver 3.9.5 immediately. last night i actually flashed revolver 3.11 right over it. not a single problem.
edit: reading the above post, i remember that my FIRST recovery installation was using that one-click tool and, as was said, it works flawlessly. you still need the reboot2recovery though. and recoveryinstaller WILL NOT install the modified for internal storage version of clockwork. i'm thinking maybe i just havent tried backing up since updating to the internal storage version, which is why i think i've "never gotten it to work"

Awesome, I had tried it earlier and it didn't do anything. Then I realized that my superuser app was FCing, however I could still use adb shell and su just fine! After I realized there was an update for the superuser app, I installed it. Everything is perfect now.

Code:
adb reboot recovery
Why why not download the reboot recovery app from the market?

Rooting alone does not install CWM recovery.

im making progress but very slowly i was able to install cwm with recoveryinstaller apk and had to copy the su folder from... so from there im assuming its just to boot into recovery wipe data/factory reset and install zip from sd card containing the updater launcher for the firmware i downloaded from asus site n that should restore to stock? is that it or am i missing a few steps

[Q] TF101G back to stock rom.

Hi, I'm new to this forum (first post).
I had the same problem - e.g. I wanted to return to stock. I flashed ' PERI 1-click recovery' and the latest version of Revolver custom ROM for the TF101G but I couldn't get 3G to work (unknown Baseband), and PERI wouldn't let me flash the stock ROM - it gave an error 'assert failed' 'Status 7'.
Thought I'd b*****d it thoroughly and couldn't find a thread telling me how to get back to Stock, but trial and error prevailed.
This is what I did (assume you already have ROOT and a custom recovery installed):
1. Download the latest ASUS stock ROM zip from the ASUS site to the PC. Make sure you select the right one for your model (mine's the WW TF101G version)
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+TF101G&p=20&s=16
2. For some reason ASUS put the stock ROM zip image inside another zip file, so extract it from the downloaded zip file and copy the extracted stock ROM zip (e.g. WW_epad-user-9.2.2.6.zip) to TF101G Internal Storage (not an external SD)
3. The custom recovery you have installed my allow you to flash the stock ROM, in which case just do steps 7 and then 10 onwards. Mine (PERI) gave me an Assert Failed error, in which case ....
4. Download ClockWork Recovery for the Transformer. I used Clockwork_Recovery_5.8.1.8_by_JvS_Corp_V3 from this site and it worked just fine. I don't know which other versions work and which don't:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577929
5. Copy the downloaded Clockwork_Recovery_5.8.1.8_by_JvS_Corp_V3.zip to TF101G Internal Storage (not external SD)
6. Now boot the TF101G into recovery mode (Power + Volume Down until prompt appears, then Volume Up for recovery)
7. Wipe all caches (including the user data cache)
8. Flash Clockwork_Recovery_5.8.1.8_by_JvS_Corp_V3.zip - you'll see lots of scrolling @@@@@@@s, don't worry that's normal
9. Once the Install is complete, Boot into recovery mode again - you should now be in Clockwork Recovery V5.8.1.8
10. Flash the stock ROM (e.g. WW_epad-user-9.2.2.6.zip). Wait until the install is complete.
11. Reboot normally. You will see a blue status bar which will take a while to complete and then it will reboot itself, you may see a message 'Android is Updating' which will also take a while to complete.
After doing this, you should now have the stock ROM, stock recovery, no ROOT and you will be asked to set up the Tablet for the first time, i.e. back to stock.
P.S. If you don't wipe the User Data cache, you can flash to stock without using your apps / settings / data.
Hope this helps.
i dont understand. If youre going to sell the tf101 why not load it up with custom overclockable kernel, new JB rom, and a custom touch recovery? those are added features compared to a lame stock version of the transformer.

because it doesn't exist a JB ROM with 3G working, and usually, when i'll sell something, i prefer selling with the stock image, it's more guarantee that will work properly, like when leaving the store, so they can root and change roms themselves.

In my post, where I said "P.S. If you don't wipe the User Data cache, you can flash to stock without using your apps / settings / data", I meant "...without losing your apps / settings / data". That way you can carry on using it until you sell it, and then just do a factory reset once you have a buyer.
Good luck.

[Q] Transformer TF101 os completely wiped - help

Firstly, I am complete noob when it comes to rooting and romming, and joined the forum in hopes of someone being able to help me.
I followed 'Frederuco's Guide to Root and ROM' my tf101.
This worked well and I successfully rooted my device.
My problem started when I tried to be a smartass and load on different ROMs.
Using TWRP I pushed all the wipe options possible and then turned off the device.
When I rebooted it there was no OS at all and I couldn't load anything because it didn't see my microSD card (which is where I'd put the recovery stuff).
OK I thought, I'll use Easyflasher and re-install stock android. Obviously I didn't follow those instructions correctly because that made the problem worse, and now there is no TWRP either, and all the computer sees is 'Android phone' 'APX Transformer Interface' in the device manager. There is nothing useful in the USB host controllers section of device manager (i.e. no nvidia boot recovery).
So, I seem to have a device that is completely blank - no OS, no recovery, and possibly no bootloader either.
I am hoping someone can possibly provide me with some easy to follow (idiot-proof) instructions to bring my device back to life, as I have a sinking feeling that I've completely wrecked my tf101.
EasyFlasher will still recover your device as long as you can enter APX. Post any errors/warnings/problems you may be having while flashing and people will be able to help.

Here is what comes up:
On computer:
Easyflasher 0.8.3
>Extracting blob archive..
>Blob extracted!
>Blob size 4054.07421875kb
Running Wheelie..
>Tablet is now ready for Nvflash
>Extracting from blob...
>Cleaning up before flashing...
>Checking file sizes
>SOS size 0kb
>APP size 0kb
>EBT size 0kb
>LNX size 4054kb
Done!
(A separate window opened that said formatting partitions - it got to 16 I think, then said it was extracting some things, then it went away.)
On tablet it says this:
Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server
Chip Uid: 03806245434033d7
!!!!!phone update success!!!!!!
So what do I do next?
It should reboot the device into the stock firmware. Did you grab it from the Asus website?

I got the firmware from one of the forums on here. It is stock kernel ics 9.2.1.17. When I unplug the tablet and try to reboot it doesn't do anything.
try booting back into recovery and see if its still there.
U did know you can change between internal sd and your external micro sd with TWRP? - just incase
Get the actual firmware from Asus. I wouldn't trust a random firmware from the forums. Make sure you get the right version too (WW or US).
Noob listen, patience is a virtue, so read allvthe instructions and comments below before you jump into something, otherwise this is what happens.
Now coming to easy flasher download asus firmware from asus (no third party link), flash it and again wait till its completely finished. Once its done, restart and you are good... Let it boot up, then if you want then use easy flasher to root and install twrp again.
BTW 1st time when you wiped using twrp all you needed to do was remove micro SD, reload the ROM onto it and flash the ROM... Anyway that's an old story now
Good luck,

Depending on your tablet serial you might be able to recover in APX mode using an NVFlash ROM

Thank you all so much for your help. I have managed to get it working again.
Would someone be able to direct me to an easy to follow forum link to upgrade my transformer to Jellybean using Cyanogen please with idiot-proof instructions?
Many thanks again.
To answer why the previous things didn't work, If you look at easyflasher's first log it shows the SOS and APP partitions as 0kb, and it looks like you were just flashing a kernel, not the whole os.
The SOS is recovery and APP is the full os, so in the future make sure that you are nvflashing / flashing the right zip.
Also from the op if I read it right your tablet got wiped because you wiped it in recovery then turned it off without first flashing the rom.zip.
Go ahead and use my PERI 1-click root tool or another 1-click (easyflasher etc...) to get recovery on there again. Then put the ROM.zip file you want on the tf, go into recovery and wipe cache, data/factory reset, and Dalvik-cache. then Install the rom.zip from sdcard/internal (SD preferred, if the rom is on the sd card I recommend formatting data too..)
Then reboot and it should boot into shiny new JB.

[Q] Root, Custom Roms, Unlock on Asus TF700T

Hello,
i was wondering if someone could answer some questions that i have about android and the asus tf700t.
now i already searched on google and on xda but there are so many informations and i just cant tell which one is the "best" or the right one.
My Asus is unlocked. i got that far and didnt think it would be too hard to root but i see command lines and/or 3 different kinds of software or files that i have to download first or programs like unlockroot etc.
so i was wondering if you could answer me a few questions.
1. do i need to root to put on a custom rom or is it enough that the device is unlocked?
2. what is the easiest and safest way to root?
3. what are 3 good custom roms?
i have android 4.1.1 on my asus and heard that 4.2 is out so i would like to update it but i never had an android device until now so i just want to make sure i m not destroying it after 3 months of use.
Thank you very much
Ben
Custom ROMS are pre rooted, usually, so you best bet would:
1. Update to stock 4.2.1
2. Root using Motochopper
3. Download GooManager(give root rights') from Play Store and Install TWRP by installing open script recovery.
4. Perform a factory reset via TWRP, without wiping Internal storage, or MicroSD card.
5. Install CromiX or CyanogenMod
There are other ROMS out there, but it is advised to install CromiX first because it is stock based and can be flashed over the stock ROM.
Also, make sure you know how to get into the recovery manually, and make sure you check files before flashing to make sure things downloaded properly.

Asus pulled the JB 4.2.1 firmware off their website, probably because they realized it had too many bugs. They probably are working on a new release and I would wait for it.
In the meantime read the forums and familiarize yourself with the process of rooting, installing a custom recovery and flashing custom roms.
If you don't want to wait, search for the forums on the Motochopper tool. I believe you can also use it to gain root under 4.1, but I'm not 100% sure.
If you have root, download Goo Manager, tap the 3 dots in the upper right and choose: Install open recovery script.
This will install the TWRP 2.5.0 custom recovery.
Boot into TWRP and select 'Backup'. This will give you a nandroid backup of your current system. Copy it to a safe place.
Next, you still being on 4.1, you need to flash the JB 4.2 bootloader which is version 10.6.1.14.4. You'll find a link in post 1 of the Cromi Xenogenesis thread in the development section. The dev packaged it with TWRP 2.5. It doesn't hurt to re-install TWRP.
Also download the latest release of the Cromi-X (ODEX) ROM, currently 4.4.1, and place both zips into the root of your internal or external SD card (your choice).
Boot into recovery, choose 'Install', navigate to the 10.6.1.14.4 bootloader/TWRP zip you downloaded and swipe to flash it. After installation the tablet will reboot into your old rom - this is fine.
At this point, just to be safe, you may want to check if you have the correct bootloader installed: Boot up with Vol Down and Power button and read the tiny script. It gives you the bootloader version.
If you're 100% sure you have the correct bootloader and TWRP 2.5.0, proceed:
Boot into TWRP recovery again, select Install, select the CROMIX 4.4.1 zip and flash it.
The Aroma installer will start and give you options to choose from. Stick with most of the default options for the beginning. You can always re-flash the rom with a different set of options selected.
Enjoy!
