Hey,
since I've seen that it became possible to backup up and restore SMS on Windows Phone (with backing up the store.vol), i was thinking if it could become possible to port SMS from Android to Windows Phone. Anyone an idea how to do that??

Currently this isn't possible. An interesting solution would be backing up the SMS messages to Gmail under a SMS label, then importing into Android under one of a couple of apps that do this already. The trick is getting a dev to write an app for WP7 that would complete the cycle.
I really do not have an idea of all this developing things, but my first thought was, that it "just" has be possible to backup the SMS of an Android device in the ".vol" format (or convert them into a ".vol" file), so can can just restore them on Windows Phones. Maybe its complete crap what I am talking about, but for me it sounds the easiest way .

I was describing a method that is already in place on Android. There are a few apps that back up SMS, MMS, and call logs to those respective labels in your Gmail account. All that needs to happen is for a WP7 dev to create an app which can process those "e-mails" under those labels and sort them to their proper places. This is much easier than having to load a file, since WP7 doesn't support .vol files.

Im amazed that these things aren't in some well known file or that no one seems to know (this is my second post on the subject) should I be asking this question in a more general forum perhaps ?
thats a good question btw,
i suggest you try the general if anyone doesnt come up with an answer for that

I asked in the general smartphone forum a couple of weeks ago and no one answered i feel sure that these things simply reside in a folder or file which can be copied between instances
I'm not sure for T9..but for emails and sms and a LOT of other things you can use SPB Backup (wich you have to pay for) whicj backups and restored also installed softwares and config and registry
or PPC Backup 2.8 which is free...whic restore phonebook sms and emails but not software data.

So, I am coming from the iPhone and Symbian os and they have the ability to back up stuff with iTunes.
My question, is there anything like that for Android? I am not very familiar with Android so I am curious. Something like contacts, apps I've downloaded, etc.
Also, if there is a way, is this way available on Mac, or must I boot into my windows partition to take advantage?
I looked through quite a few of the pages on the captivate general forum and didn't see any posts regarding this. Thanks!
I'd also be interested in a general back up program..
I use titanium backup. I read that it is the best backup.I have to say that it is very different than what you use on a computer.
I have not done a restore with it yet.I have not figured out how to do a selective restore (individual file) yet.
I am not sure about just iTunes.
Hi,
How would I import a few thousand SMS messages from a non WP7 device(/xml/csv/etc) into a Lumia 710?
For instance is there a way to inject them into a WP7 phone backup database and restore that to the phone?
Or using WP7 Root Tools (if it's supported on the 710?)
Or perhaps some insertion method through Rainbowmod?
Has anyone successfully brought SMS messages onto the device?
Thanks!
I think it's impossible at least in an easy way...
But if you brave and experienced enough you can take a look at SMS Backup and how it stores the messages. With a lot of luck and skill, you might be able to get it working. But to be honest, chances are small and the sms messages must be really really important to try this painful excercise...
It's possible, with sufficient unlock level (on the Lumias, that probably means a custom ROM). There are some tools, such as SMS Backup, which are able to read and write the SMS database on the phone, but there are limits to their compatibility.

Yes that's true but you'd still need to create those dbs and SMSBackup rendered my hd2 unusable (had to flash over again), so I'm not really convinced at all.
This is a reference guide on how to import an iPhones SMS messages to Android SMS by obtaining the iPhone backup file located on a Windows based PC that is Sync'd whenever the iPhone is plugged into the machine.
1) Locate the directory where the iPhone backup is stored typically here (The AppData directory is typically hidden by default)
Code:
C:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\mobilesync\Backup
2) The actual directory that the backups are stored in is in a naming structure that is alpha-numerical, 40 charectors
3) The file you are looking for starts with 3d07, sometimes there are 3 of these files, you will be needing the larger of the 3.
4) Copy the file to your SDcard on your Android phone.
5) From here there are two ways you can view the messages.
a. By using SQLite Editor which is a pay app. You browse the SDcard and view the 3d07 file.
b. You can use iSMS2Droid in conjunction with SMS Backup and Restore to browse to the 3d07 file and import / view / or restore the messages straight to your Android phone.
Hope this guide helps anyone trying to merge over from iPhone.
Cool guide! Thanks.

Thee is a program called Backuptrans Android SMS to iPhone may help.
thanks!
Thank You
Thank you very much that method worked fine for me, But;
This is what I had to do in case you're facing the same issue:
**Please note that I have i9300 running CM10
I tried recovering my SMS using MyBackup Pro, Super Backup and even PC sync with old iphone backup and didn’t work: the result was messed up messages, like most sent messages are recorded as received and vice versa
I tried the method you mentioned; although it seemed to fix the mix up caused by the previous methods, it tend to divide conversations,
Finally I was able to successfully restore all the sms but on several stages; meaning that I restored specific periods of time (SMS back and restore have this option) like a year maybe at a time and you get the option to check for duplicates while doing so
Sorry for raking up this old thread, but I had iSMS2droid crash when reading from the iPhone backup. There are 3500 messages in the backup, that was done with the iPhone running 6.0.1 retail. My android phone is GS3 running a touchwiz JB ROM. I emailed the developer and still awaiting a response. Can you guys guide me? Thanks.

Agreed. iSMS2droid crashes, and the website doesn't work properly anymore. It appears that iOS6 changed the SMS table format so none of the data is in the same places it used to be.
Hey, I had this problem too. For all googlers, here's a webapp that supports iOS6. Works great, check out the instructions.

Thanks a lot for the guide!!
thanks for cool guide:laugh:
Thanks a lot. My friend just asked me how this can be done. Well, question answered then. Thanks again. :good:
You can try this way and see if it works:
1. Use iCloud to backup your SMS
2. Then connect Android phone to your computer
3. Open the iCloud backup file and copy those SMS to Android phone
More info about iCloud backup you can visit URL: support.apple.com/kb/HT4859
Thank you for the instruction it's been very helpful!:good:
You may try to fix it with Phone Transfer. Read the guide below, it helps you in transferring SMS from iPhone to Android.

Hi !
It is unfortunately officially impossible to Mod Edit: Links removed import iPhone SMS to Android[/URL]. BUT, there are two things you can do :
You can easily fetch contacts, mail and calendar events from iCloud using CardDAV and CalDAV sync Android apps.
I also used to hear about a software looking for all your data in your iPhone or iPhone backup to put everything it cans on you new Android phone.
I am using a Galaxy SIII mini for my Android apps dev. and the 1st solution works perfectly.
Hoping to have helped you.
thanks for this guide!
Thanks a lot for the guide..
Can I delete the 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e0... file from my android phone after restore is completed successfully ?
Re: How to import iPhone SMS to Android
You can start up with extracting all the messages file first. In order to do this, just explore iTunes and simply connect your iPhone and the computer. On the left, you can see a bar, just hit a right click to your iPhone and choose 'Backup'.
I cannot say that these two new phones are better than the android but my new iPhone 5S looks way too premium than my old android (samsung galaxy s3). Btw, I was too lazy to transfer all the data manually from one phone to another so I did it via desktop utility:
It was quick and easy.
Hi!
I have Windows Phone (HTC TROPHY) and I have whatsapp on it.
A)I deleted a whole message thread (yesterday) and I was wondering if there is any way to get it back? (Whatsapp still not uninstalled)
B)If whatsapp is deleted, can I also still retrieve deleted threads?
Thanks to you all!
If your phone is interop-unlocked / rooted (WP7 Root Tools or custom ROM), it may be possible. This depends on how Whatsapp actually deletes the thread. The odds are against you, though. Flash storage (especially if TRIM is supported) can be a bit trickier to "undelete" from than magnetic storage, and that assumes that the relevant tools even exist. I don't think they currently do for WP7. By the way, if you delete Whatsapp, the OS will remove its data folder entirely, including all contents, and you won't be able to retrieve them.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.
No my phone isn't interop-unlocked nor rooted.
So there is no other option? My phone is just stock... :/
Pretty much. The only other option would be if you have a phone backup (such as is created when you install updates) from before the thread was deleted; you could restore the entire backup but that would reset everything on your phone to that point in time, not just your Whatsapp history.
Don't bother asking if it's possible to extract a file from a phone backup; it's not (currently). They're encrypted. People have tried to find the decryption key, but thus far unsuccessfully.
