I love testing the new ROMS but my only gripe is everytime I flash my phone I lose my text messages and all the custom t9 entries in my dictionary. Is it possible to download these two items so they dont become lost between rom flashes ?

Im amazed that these things aren't in some well known file or that no one seems to know (this is my second post on the subject) should I be asking this question in a more general forum perhaps ?
thats a good question btw,
i suggest you try the general if anyone doesnt come up with an answer for that

I asked in the general smartphone forum a couple of weeks ago and no one answered i feel sure that these things simply reside in a folder or file which can be copied between instances
I'm not sure for T9..but for emails and sms and a LOT of other things you can use SPB Backup (wich you have to pay for) whicj backups and restored also installed softwares and config and registry
or PPC Backup 2.8 which is free...whic restore phonebook sms and emails but not software data.

Hey,
This is my first time flashing and i would like to know what kind of configurations i should write down for my mobile?(networks, addresses?!) as if i would need help i will not be able to get because of the flash.
The language of my phone is in german (and i only speak english)
thx
P.S
Is there a way to automatic backup\restore those confs?
Read the treads in the forum again and again before doing Your first flash:
Use Search-function to Search for more info..
And then read again....
This is the basic Newbie tread for first taime flasher:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
And make sure You have HardSPL installed before.
Definitely be sure to read the Kaiser Wiki and the various stickies regarding CID unlocking and flashing before you attempt anything.
If you are willing to spent 2-3 hours (more like 1 hour if you have good comprehension) reading before acting, you will have no trouble flashing your phone correctly on the first try.
hi,
i did read the faq and wiki,
there was no info about configuration backup (just sms email etc).
i tried to search aswell with no luck.
if someone can direct me somewhere more specific i would appriciate it.
thx
NO? Read the treads again!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
In The introduction point 6 it reads:
"6. Last chance to synchronize and/or backup files. All files and databases will be deleted after performing the next step!
(Optional: If you want to save your text messages and/or eMails, use a tool like DotFred's PIM Backup.)"
And there is a link to DotFreds PIM Backup Tool if You click the blue text! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
If You don't like this tool use SBP Backup and/or Sprite Backup tool to backup your data. This software will backup Youe SMS, contacts, Emails, task and so. But not everything!
But keep in mind things (textfiles, videos and any other things) You have put on Youe device (not the memory card) will be gone! So Copy them to your PC or other media if not already done!
If Your are using a other languages OS (like I am: Swedish) and You try to flash a WWE (Wide Worls English) base ROM You can NOT restore System Data saved with SBP backup, just the SMS, Contacts, tasks appointments Email etc.
When it comes to settings (MMS or WAP etc) how did You configured them?
Manually or by using the Wizard? If manually then start writing them don't or make screen dumps. Use program like SOTI's Pocket Controller Pro or MyMobiler (freeware) http://www.mtux.com/
So start reading the treads again and again. When You think You know, read again.
I haven't flashed my Kaiser yet. But I'm reading all the treads. Learning from other mistakes. So I'm like You: In the want to flash stage and I'm 99% sure of How to do it (I have flsahed other devices so I not completely a rookie however). But I like to compare all the ROM's, performance and tweaks. What impact does Page Pool have etc.
I'm a cautious General.
thx alot

You can aslo search for carrier specific cab files that will re-load your settings for MMS etc. Just remember to backup any info you think you'll need. Contacts, WAP settings, etc. I know the first time you flash you're being overly protective. That's ok, it'll get easier as you try different ROMs. Good luck!
thx alot guys
i backed up all the screens with informatio with MyMobiler
tomorrow is going to be a long day flashing i hope it will work out properly
thx again
So I have just flashed my device for the first time! It was no big deal if you read before clicking OK.
So I'm now running Dutty's DualTouch v4RTM.
OK I lost some fotos, videos and homemade ringtones wish I had in the device (the ROM), but I can live with that.
Now it has been alot of reinstalling different software which I just to have on my original Swdeish ROM. Not yet finished. But next time I flash another WWE ROM I can use the Systen Data from my backup.
Best of luck!
Does anyone know or recommend a backup tool ?
I was really more concerned with restoring options at this point, not necessarily programs. Say the Quick contacts and stuff like that. Have to set those up is a pain again and again ever time you Flash the device.
Cheers!
I'm using PIMbackup 2.8 it's very easy to use and it's free

But why don't u use the sprite backup that comes freely with the phone in one of the cds ??!?
I have used SPB Backup on my TP and previous PPC's. The technology of SPB-Backup is clever. I choose it over Sprite years back after comparing the their respective methods.
This debate has been had many times on the forums.
PPCPimbackup is great but it will only do your SMSs/ emails/ contacts and call logs.
Sprite Backup is great for doing a full backup but you really should not use it to restore options / settings etc after flashing a new ROM, particularly one which has a different build of windows or different reg tweaks applied.
You can use UC or Sashimi to restore progs etc after a flash.

Hi, i'm sorry but i have to correct you, this is not true (anymore). SPB backup does make full backups and does so VERY well.
I think you must've not looked at spb backup for quite a while.
My tp has scheduled backups with the newest spb backup and every night makes a full backup to my sd-card, reboots and voila, working phone when i wake up.

Sorry - my mistake - I meant to say PPCPimbackup (will edit this). SPBBackup suffers the same problem as sprite when flashing a new ROM - namely you use it at your own risk given the potential differences in file structure / reg entries
so i have been hiding on various places reading up on and installing roms on my touch pro 2. as of the last 5 roms some part of all of them functions incorrectly or locks up, or just generally doesn't work. now i have a hard time believing all these roms have problems. some of these have been very popular and stable roms like mighty and energy. my device has been properly unlocked. right now im using a rom called Gdub i think it is and although no big deal im unable to change wallpapers nor will my computer connect ( im thinking that problem is unrelated and might be my computer) now, one thing i have done ever time has been use pim backup for my contacts but i cant understand how that would mess anything up. the only other thing i can find on this issue is someone said the device might not be completely writing over the data before and causing issues. i have searched all i can but not sure exactly what to search for. and ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Really, you have to give people a little more time to respond.
I would also suggest a Task 29 before flashes. More importantly however may be your PIM backup. Are you restoring backed up reg settings when you do PIM backup? If so, that is your problem.

I personally dont use PIM backup.. i either sync it with my comp or use Microsoft My Phone App... but some people have issue with keeping their stuff in the cloud.. but definetly if using PIM backup make sure that reg entries are not being transfered.. even then Task29 will not help you.
Hey,
since I've seen that it became possible to backup up and restore SMS on Windows Phone (with backing up the store.vol), i was thinking if it could become possible to port SMS from Android to Windows Phone. Anyone an idea how to do that??

Currently this isn't possible. An interesting solution would be backing up the SMS messages to Gmail under a SMS label, then importing into Android under one of a couple of apps that do this already. The trick is getting a dev to write an app for WP7 that would complete the cycle.
I really do not have an idea of all this developing things, but my first thought was, that it "just" has be possible to backup the SMS of an Android device in the ".vol" format (or convert them into a ".vol" file), so can can just restore them on Windows Phones. Maybe its complete crap what I am talking about, but for me it sounds the easiest way .

I was describing a method that is already in place on Android. There are a few apps that back up SMS, MMS, and call logs to those respective labels in your Gmail account. All that needs to happen is for a WP7 dev to create an app which can process those "e-mails" under those labels and sort them to their proper places. This is much easier than having to load a file, since WP7 doesn't support .vol files.
Hi!
I have been searching for this on Google and in the forums, and I cannot find any answers. I see that the most of the sms/mms backup apps are using .XML files, and I read that they do not support emoji and would corrupt the .xml file if I try to restore it.
I have only had to restore sms one time and that time i used go sms pro since I read that they support emoji backup even though they didnt so my 14000 sms got corrupted when I tried to restore, also tried with Titanium without anyluck or maybe I did something wrong (luckly I had nandroid backup and didnt update ROM), this time i want to make sure that this would not happen again and I want to update rom without loosing my sms. I feel there is a simple solution, but I cannot find it.
Would be nice if someone could help out a newb

I'd like to know toO!
Why do they have to make this so damn hard. Why can't I just drag a file from old android phone and drop it in new android phone? What is the best method to COMPLETELY backup and restore SMS/MMS on non rooted phones?
Try this app (find the latest beta from release folder) : https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/blob/master/README.md#readme
Used for years and did several restore while changing my rom. It push the backup into a Gmail label.
From what I saw, it saves pictures. So I guess it saves also emoji.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I tired SMS Backup & Restore but for some reason when it restored them (which worked for the most part) it screwed up a bunch of the time stamps.
One year later and no good solution to my problem?
A solution I found

I know this thread was years ago, but I came across it while trying and failing to fix this issue, and after a ridiculous amount of time investigating I have a solution finally. I thought if I posted it here then others with the same problem might come across it too and it could help people.
Assuming you already have "SMS Backup and Restore" (though confusingly there are two apps in the Play Store called that, you want the one with the green icon by SyncTech Pty Ltd).
Select "Back Up Now" and send it to Dropbox (or another place, I found Dropbox the easiest). Most importantly though, click on" Advanced Options" and turn the "Emojis & special characters" slider OFF. xml doesn't understand emojis, and it will corrupt the file and cause "XML Parsing Error" when you try to open it.
There's an extra optional step to make the file easier to read (puts it in a nice table without bare code everywhere) but this website won't let me post the code because it contains two links (and because I'm a very new member, signed up just to write this). This step involves adding a file called "sms.xsl" and adding a line of code to the xml file to make it talk to the xsl file, but I can't find anywhere to download it with a quick Google search.
Let me know if anyone wants any more details.
This all worked for me very well at least, I hope it does for others.
