Another MT4GS battery thread - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

So today I was charging my phone after a little over 7 hours use and it simply jumped to 99% from 24%.

I just calibrated my battery like a week or so ago so I'm beginning to think that my battery(stock) is broken. Just ordered an Anker to replace it.
Could this be caused by charging from different chargers/sources(like standard htc charger then via usb and or another device's charger)?
Does the battery usage section report the battery usage acurately? Because I think mine doesn't, whether or not my device stays with screen of for a fair time of the time between charges/brightness at zero it still reports screen using the most power
Edit: On PyroICs 1.1.0

You can absolutely damage the battery by using blackberry chargeres, or ones that deviate too far from 5v-1a.

Not charged my phone with a blackberry charger. Just a Samsung galaxy mini's charger and a Huawei IDEOS charger. The only other power source I've used is USB power from my laptop when I'm on the go.

The OEM battery is known to have terrible life. You're better off with either a Mugen or the Anker two-pack.

I have both the 3600mAh Mugen and the 1800mAh Anker two-pack. Both are great. I recommend the Mugen if you can afford it.

I already have a hard rubberised case for my phone and am not too sure the 3600mAh battery bulge will agree with it, both practically and aesthetically.

Aye that's something to watch out for. Maybe go with the Anker and if your still not satisfied, look into a Muugen 18 or 36

No blue, I'm going to have to call you on this one. No damage that I can see. Been charging my old G2 with a BB charger for at least the past 4 months. No problems at all.

you'll see it sooner or later, you are wearing out the cells inside it - they weren't made to take that kind of stress.
When i'm not getting ready for work i'll dig up some info on why specifically.

Blue i would say your wrong aswell i used a BB charger form my old Mytouch 4g for about 11 months and my battery still functioned properly as was lasting its standered period of time like always.

What's unique about the BB charger anyway?
I noticed some time back on a previous device I had(ZTE Blade) it would disable the touch digitiser as soon as you plugged it in, though it would still charge the device.
Is it something to do with the way its earthed?

I've used a BB charger on both my G2 and my MT4GS and both batteries still work as good as they should.

...and I think someone else posted in this thread about using a BB charger and it being fine over time.
I don't care about being wrong on a personal level, no ego or anything like that - i'd rather be corrected if i'm wrong so I don't spread misinformation. So far that's at least two people (quoted from this page, didn't dig further back into the thread - cumbersome to do on the device over lunch through the browser)
So that's some people providing information based on their direct observations, it's up to me or anyone else who has supporting info to provide it to show why trickle-charging at low amperage is bad for the cells in the battery.
Just 'cause it works and you get away with it without the appearance of issues doesn't mean it's good for it or not doing damage.
I once drove my Bronco a little over 300 miles round-trip to camping in the mountains at a remote site. It was carrying all of our gear and the people were riding in other vehicles, and the Bronco was overloaded (by a lot). I only had 2 cylinders out of 8 working, the sparks were shot in the other 6. 3 were down before the trip started, didn't have a chance to change them, and at one point early in the drive I came to a quick stop on the highway from fast to nothing and flooded the engine, causing 3 more spark plugs to stop working (shoulda seen them when I changed them after I got back - 2 were outright broken lol)
The Bronco still pulled it's weight and got us there, was able to keep up and was 4-wheeling off road and lots of fun. Obviously not good for the engine, tranny etc... but it did it, and without any issues.
I've got just over 1600 logged rounds through my Glock since the last time I cleaned it (intentionally - glock is supposed to be reliable and it's a torture test i'm putting it through to see how many rounds between cleaning before a misfire)
Obviously in both cases the manufacturers don't recommend doing what i'm doing. It should be pretty plain the objects spoke about were/are being abused. Yet they function/functioned just as well as if they were being cared for properly.
The abuse of the cells in the batteries is no different then the two situations I described above. They are not designed to be charged at that trickle rate, and doing so stressed the individual cells in the batteries.
I don't have links to cite technical specifics, and i'll have to go out of my way to track down the information to put here to explain why on the technical level. I don't know how soon that may be, but it's important for us to lay this to rest one way or another.
I'd love nothing more then for the information i've put together about lithium-ion batteries over the course of my electronics education to be proved wrong due to new developments in battery technology/tolerances and that you can in fact use something like a BB charger to charge them, but it flies in the face of all I know about proper care of the cells in the batteries themselves so...

Blue is an interesting character, I must say lol...
Either way, I'll take your word for it. You probably know better than me regardless. I was just saying I saw no apparent damage. But then again this damage doesn't need to be apparent.

always nice to get what you love!
seems as if the important thing is not input current, but ensuring that the battery is not 'overcharged'.
Charge currents with Li-ion are less critical and can vary widely. Any charge will do, including energy from a renewable resource such as a solar panel or wind turbine. Charge absorption is very high and with a low and intermittent charge, charging simply takes a little longer without negatively affecting the battery. The absence of trickle charge further helps simplify the charger.

I also have used my bb charger on my g2 and this phone with no problems. I did eventually have a probelm charger the g2 but it was something wrong where the charfger was actually connecting. You would have to hold the phone a seperate way.. had another g2 that was fine before that one though, until I fell on it. 280 pounds > g2

Super OT I know but,
Check out Chuck Taylor's super high round count Glock 17. A million or so rounds through it. Insane. I used to have a Glock Armorer's certification back when I was the Police. Glocks are extremely durable and reliable pistols. The caveat I'll pass on is shoot no unjacketed lead, only jacketed bullets. Too many rounds with Pb and no cleaning can have you eating bits of your chamber... It is hard to write kernel code without the use of your fingers and eyes.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement.

[Updated 6/14] 1980mah Andida battery

*Last update. There is some testing going on in the thread, expect updates on the testing after 6/14*
Apparently there is a 1980mah battery for sale on ebay for the g2x. It's located here: http://goo.gl/fTVHF
I decided to contact all purchasers of the battery via researching the seller's feedback list. I hit up all P990 and P999 purchasers who have had the battery at least 1 week. I'm posting responses as I receive them so I'll keep adding to this, newest at the top -
It added a maybe additional hour or two to the battery life, but soon after I replaced the battery I rooted my phone because It is the worst battery hawk I've ever used and I installed cyanogen mod instead of the crappy LG software that came with the phone, that gave me additional hour or two, then I installed juice defender and now I've seen up to 36 hours of battery life, compared to 8 - 12 hours before my adventure to get reasonable battery life out of this phone.
So I'm sorry that I can't really tell if the increased battery life out of this 1980mAh battery did the trick beyond a few recharge cycles since I did a lot more to the phone the only a few days later to make it remotely usable

Hmmmm thanks for doing that research! I'm definitely considering giving this one a try. I've also had extended batteries in the past and none have ever bricked my phone. I'm still a little hesitant because of the bad hype concerning third party batteries. Let us know if you get a hold of any more reviews! Thanks again!

third party electronics period make me twitch.
when i was in sales, first thing i asked when people had dead phones, overheating issues, or bubbled up batteries was "where did you get your car charger" and 9/10 people said wally world, 7-11, ebay, indirect dealer. i ask to see it and sure enough it was some 2 dollar pos.
jus sayin...AM electrical parts are not the best. some are better than others, and as always you get what you pay for.

I agree with you, I just dislike people who dismiss every single third party product as junk. If you do your research and understand what you read, you can find a third party product here and there that makes using your device a lot more enjoyable. That's just my view on things, if people still want to stay completely away from third party products, they have every right to do so.
Oh and as far as getting what you pay for, there are some pretty good deals out there (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...=UTF8&qid=1306108673&sr=8-1&tag=5336653508-20 for example from personal experience) that are, in my opinion, worth much more than the price.

Agreed. I investigate every product before purchasing. Everyone in my home, as well as most of my friends and family, buy 3rd party. I have yet to hear of a challenge outside of forums and such. I believe they exist, but as far as my social circle, I have yet to see it. Plus, I have saved so much via 3rd party that if I had to replace my phone, I would still be ahead. It would suck, but I would keep buying 3rd party.

IDK.. not much gain to a 1700mah. I have done a similar thing on ebay with the 1800mah batteries that are out there. The response i received: "Stay away. I only get a few hours on the battery."
Boy, I'm so appreciative of honest buyers.. They have helped me a lot. It's a great way to know if you're getting into something bad or not.. just ask those using the products. They got nothing to gain/lose. If they love it, they'll tell ya. If they hate it, they'll tell ya.
Personally, I wouldn't touch that battery. Why?: "Write the first customer review!" Ahhh, no thanks. If it was a good product, there would already be feedback through the buzz on misc. forums.
A while ago, I used one of those Andida batteries for the old HTC Touch Diamond 2
That one had 1700 mAh and the HTC battery had 1100 [not 1400] mAh (I think).
There was an improvement over the HTC battery, quite some hours and I used that one for at least 2 months and it did not die after one week or so
Maybe it is worth a try.
480mAh extra capacity in the same size package as the OEM battery?
Impossible
If a battery is the same size as the OEM one, it doesn't matter if its labeled 1600mAh, 1700mAh or 1980mAh. It's a scam.
No matter how badly you want to rationalize the impossibility as being false, its still just a scam.

Lol that's a good point...I'm not well educated on batteries at all so my voice on the matter shouldn't be used as a reference, but I've used extended batteries in the past (ones the same size as the OEM battery for that phone) and they have worked. Sure, they only had an hour or two of life more than the OEM one, but it was still a result (and a consistent one). I know that technological definitions might not back that up, but as long as somethings works how I want it to, I really don't care about technicalities

Yup exactly. And that's why I tend to stick with reading user reviews on forums or product pages as opposed to looking for an "expert" opinion on the product when the "expert" has never used nor tested it. I have A LOT of respect for people who read up on a subject and are well educated about it, believe me. But my real concern is whether or not a product actually works in the real world for real users. I am not concerned about what statistics, etc. say a product should do.

Well... That's an extremely good point. The impossible is obviously possible. Newer tech? Who knows.. I need to see the literal science behind it and hear from someone that is in the field..
I don't think it's fair to say straight out that's its impossible and that these batteries are a scam.
I've tired to do some simple looking around on the net and seems it is a hit and miss on some of these extended batteries, but not all companies are bad with many being legit. Total legit 1980mah? I dunno, is there anyway to test this capacity?
I've used an aftermarket 1900 mAh batt on my G2. Can't rem the company name, it was for another htc phone and i had to cut the tab, but it worked and it definitely lasted longer then the stock battery.
For my G2x , I recently purchased one of these Andida 1980mah's and have had it in my phone for last couple days. These for sure last longer then my stock battery. It would barely make it from 830am till 7pm. With this new one, yesterday I started at 8:52am and lasted to 240am, with a brief 30min plug in to computer to do some syncing around mid day.
Here are some screen caps

A little pc sync/charging around 3:17-3:37ish
Then stayed at 1% from 10:24ish till 2:40. then i plugged it in to charge.
Today, I started fresh 100% charge at 2pm and now its 9:33pm and Im sitting at 60%. Hope this helps in anyway. I'll try to report back more after some battery conditioning.
Btw, there are other sellers on ebay I think. Just look up Andida for G2x
So is anybody going to buy that battery?
I'm really anxious to see if this phone can work better
with SetCPU I guess I can still monitor the temperatures
I had a problem with a European battery that reported temperature erroneous (always 25 C)
I wonder if these work great

[Battery] Epic Touch 4G Battery With The Fascinate

So after reading about vibrant users having success with using the epic touch 4g battery. I figured I'd order one up. Why? Well both of my batteries are a year old and I can tell they have degraded over time. And this one is 300mAh MOAR!!!! than the stock 1500mAh battery that came with this device.
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
The new battery is just about 1/64th of an inch thicker than the fascinate stock battery but it still works with the stock battery cover. Just into the first full charge and I can tell a difference already with screen on time at an hour with 84% left. Where normally after an hour of screen from a full charge I would be at 70%. The one thing I notice though is the battery does not charge in my spare charger that I got from vzw a year ago. It must have the same hardware check that the phone does. But since I'm running an mtd rom it charges fine in the device since the hardware check is not included within mtd kernel source.
***TOUCH WIZ USERS*** The fascinate has a hardware check that will only allow for the use of "vzw" specific batteries. So before you order one confirm that your current custom kernel has the hardware check disabled and that you can use/charge 3rd party batteries.
good day.
how do you check for the hardware disable. im running on the GeeWiz 2.0 Alpha EI20
Ask whoever compiled your kernel.
I've been using the Epic 1500 mah batteries for a long time now. I was getting them off eBay for $2 a piece including shipping brand new out of China. Just ordered 2 more this morning, although they've gone up to ~$4 each with shipping. I use two external aftermarket chargers as well, so I rarely ever charge them in the phone. That's why I've never understood the battery life worry, I just carry a spare battery. (Have 7 now, but we have two fascinates in the house)

errr right.... But the battery in the the op is from the sgsII line and not the original sgs variants. The fact that the epic sgsII came stock with 1800mAh is what I was interested in.
good day.
Yeah I realize that, my point was even though that battery is cheaper than the OEM battery for our phone, the battery I mentioned is still a fraction of each. At $3.70 a battery I can have a lot of 1500 mah batteries to one 1800 mah batteries. Although I may have to check eBay and see if I can find the new 1800 ones dirt cheap too.
Nice info chopper

Thanks for the great info. Just ordered one for my Fascinate running MIUI/Glitch. The additional 20% in battery capacity will definitely be welcome.
I too just ordered one, I need the extra battery, I eat it up at work and then dont have enuf left for the night time. I love my phone and I always seem to need to do something on it.
Very pleased so far. I wanted to give a couple charge cycles and time to settle in. But it almost feels like them good ole DJ05 days of yesteryear in the battery department with this thing. I had ALOT of downtime today at work and hammered the device (found a sweet disc golf game and logged about 1 1/2 just on that ) today and just watched the battery level trickle down. And even did some maps with gps today (who knew there are like 4 sheridan rd's on the north side of chicago that run e/w and n/s) cause we got lost.
Background of my current set up:
Pool Party 1.4.1 (mtd rom) which includes jt0912 kernel within rom.
I sync gmail and have fancy widgets update every hour. Twitter is done via a colorize widget that I have set to manually update when I feel like it. The rest of the screen time is reading emails and xda and rootz apps with some surfing in between gaming. My screen brightness setting is always at 45%. Oh yeah forgot, 25 minutes of talk as well.

I got the new Epic Touch 4G battery yesterday. I charged it to 100% with the phone off, rebooted into recovery and cleared Batt Stats. Today I'm going to let the phone run down to almost nothing before charging again. Any other suggestions for maximizing battery life?
Also, Chopper I noticed your Cell Standby is much lower than mine, I'm at 24% and my Display is at 14% with only 1h 25m time on. Any suggestions on improving/reducing Cell Standby battery usage?
I'm running MIUI 1.9.16, the last Glitch kernel, and the EC09 radio.
Thanks.

You could try updating your PRL (*228 option 2).
Just ordered mine, should get to me late next week. I chose Economy shipping cause I am poor as all-get-out.
Also, Google Checkout is probably one of the best things evar. Don't need to register with ANOTHER site? Okay, thanks Google.
Well, shoot. Was gonna post a big hullabaloo about finding this battery in the Vibrant forums, and I've been beaten to the punch. Oh well. Here's what I was gonna write. Er... copy and paste?
Hello there, Fascinate people! Visitor from the Vibrant forums here. We found and tested an 1800mah battery that, while intended for the Epic Touch 4G, fits and works perfectly in the Galaxy S and all it's variants. I've personally tested it in a Samsung Fascinate and a Samsung Vibrant. The Fascinate was a tighter fit than the Vibrant, but the battery door closed just fine.
I've personally tested the battery over the past week and it lasts significantly longer than the default 1500mah battery (I'm a relatively new Vibrant user, so my battery is only a couple months old). The math seems to match up with the 1800mah claim. To be clear, this isn't as surprising as it would be if this were a random Chinese ebay battery. This battery is made by Samsung for the Epic Touch 4G. It's noticeably thicker than the stock Galaxy S battery, but not so thick that the battery door on the Vibrant and Fascinate won't close completely.
The battery can be found here:
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the best 3rd party battery for my phone, and lo and behold, the best one comes from Samsung itself.
If you'd like to read more than just my humble opinion, here is a link to the thread started in the Vibrant forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262035
Hope this information is helpful. Enjoy your Galaxy S!
this battery does indeed work very well. the battery is bigger and the door does fit tight, but the door does close completely. just started using it and am noticing significant gains after 12 hours of use. I will post back after a few charge discharge cycles with current setup and screenshots.

I have two of those.chargers, never used the USB port though. Mine did not come with cables though, you can use.the stock one if you wanted. I've bought 8 batteries out of Hong Kong, all OEM Samsung batteries, never had an issue or problem. Just got 2 in the mail today actually. If you have an external charger and multiple batteries there really isn't much of a reason to plug your phone in on a regular basis anyways.

Mugen Power batteries (1800mAh and 3600mAh) for MyTouch 4G Slide?

Mugen Power just released 1800mAh and 3600mAh (this one I'm interested in) for MyTouch 4G Slide. I just check them on their Facebook page and I'm quite interested in the performance...

I love Mugen Power batteries. I bought one for my G1 and the words "battery life" was just something other people complained about when flashing a new ROM and not something i ever thought about again until I bought the MT4GS. I'm definitely picking up one or both of these. I can't tell if the 3600 is going to be offered in black though. I may contact them and ask. I can tell you with that 3600 you could go camping in the mountains for a few days and not worry about you phone dying...very handy trip battery

Honestly I was very disappointed with HTC over the stock battery issues. Very, very limited battery life but more importantly, the heat issue. There were a few times where I was seriously evaluating whether I needed to put the phone down and give my hands a chance to cool off before I started getting mild burns. It was in my hands for a while there almost 20-something hours a day for days on end. I wouldn't worry about it starting a fire or anything like that, but that long-term exposure to the heat against my skin was becoming a consideration.
This was before, and the reason I waited so long on, getting a case. The idea of trapping more heat against the phone to me was my immediate evaluation and dismissal of the thought.
The second generation snapdragon processors had a fatal flaw. They were overly subject to heat stresses that just burned up the chip, because of what the chip was. Third generation snapdragon processors are in our phones, and I just couldn't pass this device up.
The more I thought about the heat issue, the more I decided that it was the battery that was the problem. HTC brought us an insane piece of hardware, but they aren't a battery manufacturing company and nothing else. I suppose the idea that they just got a battery in it to get the hardware out the door is a concession to getting the actual device itself to the specs it is. The heat issue makes it not okay though.
I'd forgive a crappy battery out of the box, but not one that directly damages and shortens the lifespan of the device it's in. Heat is your enemy, especially so when the phone itself is that hot.
Along comes a thread on the anker battery, and a decent amount of people who chime in or get and love this battery. I looked one up and found it for $3 at amazon - how could I not get it when an HTC replacement battery is $35-$40 for less then 1600...the anker is a 1900.
I absolutely love the anker battery, it's completely changed the experience. I no longer walk out the door and wonder if i'm going to run out of power, and I have two energizer 4000 usb-battery packs I can take with me.
The heat issue...gone like it never existed. My phone is no longer destroying itself just to live. I can do whatever I want on the phone for hours on end and not really give much consideration to what my battery is like until towards the end of it. With the stock battery, I was evaluating my next possible power sources before i'd leave a place.
...solving the heat issue let me consider cases, and another negative about a case was how often I was swapping out my MicroSD card for a while, there weren't any long periods of time (more then maybe a third of a day) that I didn't swap out a card.
I've since passively seen the name mugen tossed around in XDA, and i'm pretty sure it was considered a quality piece of equipment...just in a general non-specific sense. This thread kinda confirms that impression a bit with the opportunity to answer the question.
If the 3600 is legit, and I didn't click the link I don't have the time to look now, i'd love to know about it. I have some other things i'd like to get for this phone before a new battery would be a worthwhile consideration, but if it's really a good 3600 battery then that time would come pretty quickly, and it would honestly be more about protecting the investment in the hardware i've purchased, then getting extra run time.
If the battery runs hot, i'm not interested, so i'd appreciate if those who are going to jump on either of these to make a note of that, and maybe pass it along?
I'd really love to have this battery in my phone, if it's as good as i'm thinking/wishing it could be.
I'd like to say thank you to the people who are gonna jump on this and be able to tell us about it, people will definitely be paying attention.

The drop down option wasn't there yesterday because I was looking for it but they added it, probably after I contacted them because they got back to me last night and said it is available.
They also added the Mytouch 4G Slide to the list of phones on their site with nothing available yet two weeks ago after I contacted them the second time. I had been waiting for them to add product listing since then.
Yep the option wasn't not there yesterday, only thing now is they aren't in stock till Oct. 28 and shipping from China is another 2 weeks which total a month before it will be ship to our doors. Fudge cake -_-"

You're right it is a lot. However, from experience, I can tell you that I bought the Mugen Power slim extended and the extended with battery door (2600 mah I think) over three years ago for my G1 and both hold just as long of a charge today as the day I bought them. Also, the 2600 mah lasts around 3 days for me. Seriously, while overclocking and flashing new ROMs I never once thought "Is this ROM going to have good battery?" I just never thought about that stuff anymore.
Also, I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and I already found enough stories floating around the forums that put the idea in my head that those Anker batteries MIGHT be 1700 mah...but yeah that's more than the OEM so it is still an increase and can be considered a great deal still. I can't tell you how long Anker batteries will last because I've never owned one myself but two of those Anker batteries and a charger for less money than a lower capacity OEM almost sounds too good to be true and I'd like so see some legitimate tests on how much extra juice they are providing and for how many charges will they continue to provide it.
The plus sides for Anker: If you bought the two pack with charger then you can always have a backup and the price really is right and I did hear there is a Warranty. There are also plenty more positive stories for Anker than negative ones.
I've never owned an Anker battery so I'm not bashing it for those who have bought it and would like to buy it. You are saving a lot of money if you decide to go that route. Personally though, I just bought a $500.00 phone and I'm a little skeptical to stick in a battery that costs the same amount as a pack of AA's from Wal-Mart. So for my personal piece of mind I'd rather spend a little more on a battery that I've come to trust from previous experience.
That said, I just bought the Mugen Power 1800 (two weeks for delivery) and I'll probably pick up the 3600 as well because I do a lot of camping and I like the security of a long lasting charge on trip for a few days or more.
BTW does Anker have a website or do they just sell batteries through ebay and Amazon? I looked but I didn't see one. If anyone can point me to their site, I'd appreciate it. I was mainly curious about their Warranty. Where do you send it if the batties do go bad especially if you bought them on Amazon or ebay or something? *Edit* I just found their website. It was iAnker.com
I am the same, at first seems like an awesome battery but idk how long itll keep holding that much of a charge, anyone with insight to that?
I received my Mugen Power 1800mah. I'm on the first full charge now during a recommended 5 charge break-in period. This battery isn't rated much higher than stock so I'm really not expecting a miracle out of this one. I'm just hoping to get some more out of my day without a charge. When it's time for miracles, I'm pulling the trigger on the 3600mah.
That said, I can tell you that at least the battery is a perfect fit for the phone and there was no shoving or forcing to get it in.
siani_8, thanks for the update on the battery - keep us posted ( I know you will ) on how it goes for you.
I'm glad to hear it's a great fit, but i'd honestly expect nothing less from a company whose name oozes quality like Mugen.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread to see what comes from this.
Thanks!
NEW MUGEN POWER BATTERY INITIAL CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS

For the first 4-5 charges, please charge the battery in the device for 8-12 hours using the main power adapter and with device turned on (Important: For the first 4-5 charges You Should charge the battery for 8-12 hours, even if your phone is showing that it is fully charged already!).
2. USE DEVICE AS NORMAL
After each charge, please use the device as normal, until device tells you the battery is very low, then recharge.
3. REPEAT 4-5 TIMES
Repeat this process for 4-5 times.
After that you can recharge the battery whenever is suitable for You, and just until your device is showing it is fully charged. Important: NEVER drain the battery completely to 0%.
---------- Post added at 08:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:37 PM ----------
I tried to follow the initial charging instructings as best I could for the first 4 days of use. I took the phone off charge at 6:30 A.M. in the morning and had it back on by 6:30 P.M. (unless noted otherwise) to give it the full recommended 12 hours of charge.
I have no real controlled test for the Mugen Power 1800mah battery; however, I'm going to give a rundown by day of my experience so far with this battery.
I am currently using the Bulletproof ROM and stock Kernel.
For all days so far, the phone has been on the entire time unless specically noted. Also wi-fi, wifi calling, GPS, and bluetooth were enabled the entire time and power saving features remained unchecked in the settings. Screen brightness stayed at setting 1 of 3. My homescreens currently include the Weather widget, Friendstream widget, and Calender Widget.
Day 1: During day 1 of usage, I sent frequent texts to my girlfriend during the day, made a couple of short phone calls, read the news in the morning and checked my email occasionally as well as the XDA Forums. I had a stop on the way home and barely made it to the charger at 6:30.. the phone actually shut down a minute before I got it on charge so on day 1 I got 1 minute shy of 12 hours.
Day 2: The usage on day 2 was about the same as day 1 except I had to turn the brightness up all the way and use the phone heavily for about 15 minutes or so when I got home to drain the battery to 2% and put it back on charge. Again, around 12 hours of my normal usage is fair assesment of day 2.
Day 3: When I woke in the morning I booted into recovery and and reset battery stats. When I rebooted it was showing 93% *shrug* I also dropped my phone during the day and the battery fell out..ooops. Anyway, the phone life seemed to be doing a little better on the third day so I started using it more heavily. I was checking my email frequently, sending frequent texts, checking the XDA forums a lot, updated about 6 apps, checked the news app more than a few times. When I got home at 6:00 I had turn the brightness all the way up and use the phone for about 20 minutes straight to kill it to 2% and get it back on charge for 12 hours.
Day 4: I used the phone as much as I wanted to on the 4th day. I still texted as I usually would, made a couple short calls, checked the news and XDA frequently, took some pictures read the news - all standard stuff. It was Friday and I wasn't worried about getting it on charge by 6:30 so I continued to use it as normal and I made it to 8:30 before it dropped to 2%. Day 4 was 14 hours of continued usage.
I expect under the conditions of normal use I won't get much more than Day 4. I suppose if I wanted to conserve and enable power saving settings, turned off GPS during the day and only enabled bluetooth when I knew I was getting in the car then I might be able to sqeeeze out more. Of course if I played a video game on it I'm sure I'd get a whole lot less.
I am not unpleased with the results of the battery and is probably about what I expected for my my normal usage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669497
This might help in general...link that should have made it's way here sooner. XDA review of li-ion batteries and care for them.
Just a follow up on my Experience with the Mugen 1800mah
I ran the phone yesterday with all the same criteria as my previous posts for Days 1-4 except I kept GPS and Bluetooth off all day. After 24 hours the phone was at 16% and then I put it back on charge. I was reading the XDA forums a lot yesterday, texted moderately, read news, made a few calls, took a couple of pictures and checked my email frequently. I thought that was worth sharing. Everyone uses their phones differently so individual results may vary across all batteries and phones
Obviously, I wasn't awake for 24 hours. The phone was in hibernation for 8 hours while I slept.
I do know I couldn't make it half a day on stock with my usage, so I'm pleased so far with my second phone using Mugen Power.
I was bored and decided to post some screen shots of my battery usage today on the Mugen Power 1800mah. Screen brightness was at level 1 of 3, GPS and Bluetooth off all day today. I'm still on Bulletproof ROM with Stock Kernel. 13 and half hours of pretty good use today and I'm still at 17%. BTW I just order the Mugen Power 3600mah so I can give that whirl too but I'm kind of attached to my Trident Case now so I'll probably only use that battery on long trips. We shall see. Sorry the pictures are so big!!

I hope it is too! Mugen makes a quality battery and you will get more life than stock, without a doubt.
However, it should be noted that users of the Anker Battery 1900mah are reporting longer runtimes than my battery for a cheaper price. Please keep that in mind before purchasing. I've seen a couple users stating 24 hours of good use.
I don't own that battery so I'm just trying to give a detailed representation of my real world useage on the Mugen 1800mah. In my previous screenshots, it says the display was on for 4 hours total. I was using it quite a bit today, on various apps so I'm not sure why only XDA shows up in the usage. I messaged quite a bit too but I'm not sure what that shows up as. Does that fall under Dialer usage I wonder?

LOL, wanted to know of someone is intrested.
My phone is rooted, the rom was virtuous 2.1.0, regular OC to 1.5 GHz.
The device was charged during the night and half an hour after I plugged it off the charger and was sitting in my car the phone exploded in the phone car holder doing nothing while explotion.
Hope your dog is fine
Was it in direct sunlight? I doubt the rom or clock speed had anything to do with it. If it wasnt charging it either got too hot or was puffed from use and finally went. I dont get why people are using the cheapest batteries they can find in 300 dollar phones. I did a comparison on an anker and the stock battery a while back and the anker ended up being about the same as the evo 3d battery iirc. Its totally not worth putting in your phone. Not to mention no temperature sensor! I can believe people would use a battery without one!
Was there any damage to the phone? Any pictures of it in the phone? I think I smell lawsuit if that happens here.

This sounds VERY bogus. No picture of your phone, or any explanation! Without hard evidence, your claim, which is first of its kind, is unverifiable.
Moreover, how do you know for a fact that it was Anker Battery that caused the meltdown, and NOT exposing your phone to direct sunlight for a prolonged period, though HTC specifically & expressly warns against it on the Manual!
Furthermore, Ankers are well praised for keeping cool temperatures.
Conclusion:
The only plausible scenario is that you were running your GPS while driving, with your phone hung in direct sunlight, for a long time. I believe this is how you killed your previous phone ( HTC Desire ) as well, only you blamed it on a faulty motherboard.
Advice:
My experience with driving with GPS on, and phone in direct sunlight cause these phones to heat up to fierce temperatures and something will inevitably break - my HD2's previous digitizer, for example. So, it would serve you better to put your phone away from sunlight if you use it as your daily GPS device.
better luck with your next phone, and I hope u remember my advice.
P.S. And, don't think your Samsung Galaxy SII is immune to this!!!!

I didnt add any photos of the phoone because nothing can be seen on it, it looks fine.
The device was exposed to sun for 10 minuts, it cant get the phone to such a high temperature, the phone was in idle mode, the gps wasnt on...
The 10 minutes didnt kill the phone, my desire was tested in HTC UK and verifyed as a problem in the mother board, beside that the desire was really in gps mode but it was 22:00...

'died' isn't quite exactly the same as 'exploded'. I was considering to import an Anker battery from an ebay seller but this topic has got me worried.

I wouldn't worry. I've had the anker battery for months and working great. There will always be the "one off". This is the first I have heard about the anker exploding. We aren't even 100% proof positive it was an anker in the first place. Or even if the anker in question was an authentic one.
posted pic doesn't look like a sensation batt. mine has notches on the end.
Been running Anker in 2 different Sensations for months now and not one problem.

What I don't really get is how can these babies last much longer than stock? I mean I'm already running the 1730mah out of the box (XE)

S3 2300mAh Battery

I just wanted to share the deal I found on a spare battery with 200 extra mAh. I would imagine that this does not have the NFC chip, but I wasn't too concerned with that as of yet since I don't use any tags yet anyway. I spent a little over $3.00 with shipping for one battery. I figured even if it was garbage, I'm not out much money.

Update:
Received this battery today. It was at 68% when I put it in this morning. So far, so good. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, like excessive heat.

is it safe to use I9300 battery on our device?
Even the real one that costs $44 does not have great reviews. Will also lose NFC capability that the $44 one has. Should be ok for backup if does not explode in phone.
Fishy.... very fishy... also curious to see how this pans out.
"$3.00 with shipping for one battery" = guaranteed junk
I was given one of these exact looking batteries (can't be sure of brand/manufacturer as they're un-branded but they certainly have the same sticker from the looks of the picture) and thought "what the hell... it's free" and started using it. Less than 3 days in and I noticed my phone getting warmer than usual. Didn't think anything of it, thought it might have been just from me using the phone more. About 5 days into using it the phone started getting REALLY hot when charging. Next thing I knew, while charging the phone, the edge of the battery cover "popped" and was pushed out so it unlatched from the phone. You guessed it, the battery was swollen and HOT to the touch. Hot enough where I couldn't hold it bare handed for very long. Unplugged it immediately, placed it in a heat/fire proof container to let it cool down, but it kept swelling for the next 5 mins to the point where it won't fit in the phone any longer. (Not that I tried, but from the looks of the deformation there is no way it would fit in the battery compartment.)
As they say, you get what you pay for. Why risk saving ~$30 when it can damage/ruin your ~$500 phone! Worst yet, why risk it for bodily harm to yourself or your loved ones?!! (Perhaps this can be a covert way to dispose of/harm your mortal enemies and blame it on faulty junk electronics... hmm...) I'm fairly certain that if I had kept charging the battery there would have been a very likely case of it starting a fire as it was on top of a paper book on my night stand while charging. I can't imagine how horrible I would feel if MY phone had started a fire that ended up hurting or killing someone in the process...
Moral of the story - yes, you might get a battery that works well for you and I'm sure many people have, but why risk it?? My suggestion - STAY AWAY! STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
I actually bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330768545772
supposedly 2900mah
comes with 3 batteries and a charger
Now my word of warning: I have used these china batteries before for my other smartphones. They never gave me an issue of overheating or anything like that, but dont believe the power ratings they have. it is NOT 2900mah. Its probably more like 1800mah
I keep them charged and use them in case my phone dies and I have to have a phone right away. I dont use them as my normal day to day battery.
I got two Anker batteries for $15.00. I usually only need to resort to using one of them each week, but I always have a second if needed. I believe for a few more dollars you can get an external battery charger. That takes care of the charging problem.
How about two batteries and a charger from hyperion for $20. I believe this to be a fairly reputable brand. It can be found on Amazon if you search for hyperion. Sorry, it appears I am not cool enough to post links yet.

Kind of seems like all their positive reviews are fake.

I can vouch for them. Tested several batteries and it does have longer battery life than OEM

Haven't tested the Anker 2200 yet so I cant say for sure which battery is the best.
I might be looking into picking one up but am leaning towards an external one.

Thanks for the heads up.
I realize that this battery most likely is not a good battery. For $3 it would certainly be a good emergency backup.
It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'll give an update once I'm able to try it.

I use a seidio charge vault that was invaluable when I was on a work trip and started experiencing frequent hot boots on a previously fairly stable rom. Between trying to troubleshoot that and flashing to a backup I went through my battery pretty quick. It is also my go to travel charger.
