[Q] vipermod Guide? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive got one more question. Ive been looking in the internet for a few hours, but i didnt find what i wanted to find. How do i exactly root with vipermod?
I was only able to find Guides for the prime, but I read somewhere that its for both tf201 and 101. Can someone please post a ink to a guide , a guide or something like that? Would be the coolest ;D because i really need root. XD

First of all, if you are in ICS, all you need to do is download the vipermod tool from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21009605
You should connect you tf101 and make sure under settings you have usb debugging checked. On your computer run the tool, click option 1 (even if it says tf201), just wait for it to reboot and confirm you have superuser and root. Hope this helps.
If you are still in honeycomb, i think there is another option for Tf101 in vipermod

im still hc user because of in austria and germany ota upgrade comes on1st march ...

You DON'T boot into ADB (no such thing)
Just turn USB debugging ON.
Connect TF to PC via USB and run ViperMod (choose option 1)

THANKS
thanx for your great support it worked now im rooted

does not work fpr me keep getting protocol error

I'm hoping this will also work with the SL101 when they finally release ICS for it.

ICS is option 1
HC is option 3
Also make sure USB debugging is on AND your drivers are installed too.

So is there no rooting method?

It is very new. Not many own it yet, but I do It is fully rootable using Razorclaw, provided you update to the latest current firmware (USA 16GB model..can't speak for the rest). Afterward, I used the recoveryinstaller.apk and installed Clockwork, made a backup, and now awaiting a custom rom.

Thanks,,,,, that's what I did when I got it..........installed all the updates. I have a white 16gb US version slider bought from newegg.com. I basically just got it a week or so ago & I really like it but the rooting (or not being able to rather) was depressing me cuz I finally found a tablet I liked, this one (Asus Slider) of course.
I just want the basic rooting to use custom fonts & a few other apps that require a rooted device. My google account automatically installed Superuser & stuff from my account. Should I uninstall that till I root it?
Do I need to use Razorclaw while plugged into my pc? I use WinXP Pro.
Thanks for everyone's help!

This is the best part. With Razorclaw, you do not need a computer at all. Just pur the APK on the microSD card, enable to install unknown sources (in settings) and install it. Next, run it and click to root. Easy as pie. Does not matter if you install or uninstall SU, as Razorclaw installs it for you when launched.
And I agree, the Slider is the best tab on the market in my honest opinion. It's essentially a better built Transformer (no offense to the Transformer fans!)

vipermod
Hi guys,
New here just got the slider about a month ago, needed to root for the sixaxis controller tried the vipermod but slider didnt seem to be quick enough rebooting during the process. Ended up typing in the commands vis DOS box, rooted first time and alls been well since.

new transformer just came in

i opened it excited to install ics and root but it says theres no firmware update serial code is b80 if that matters. should i just leave wifi on and it'll eventually connect to asus servers?
Just root it, flash CWM and install Revolver v4
Will I be able to update from there?

Nope. Just search vipermod. You don't need an update if you have cwm. You can just install what ever you want then. Including the update..
i just realized that the android version still 3.1 do i still have to update it to 3.2 or anything? if so how?

Last try; search for vipermod. Root it. Install cwm. All this other stuff doesn't matter. Or search and read for a few days. No one is going to hand you the information. Hell its stickied......good luck.

thanks. the last thing im having trouble with is the drivers installation it also says disable asus sync and the splashtop but i cant find those two apps anywhere. also vipermod got updated so the choices are now:
1: root (only method for prime on ICS v9.x.x.11)
2: root (only method for prime on ICS v9.x.x.8)
3: alt root (recommended for TF101 also works with prime on v8.x.x.x)
4. unroot
5. install unlock tool and flash cwm
6 donate
7 exit
from my understanding i would connect the tablet to my laptop, kill asus sync and splashtop somehow, then open the vipermod app and press 3? i cant tell you how thankful i am for everyone helping me i'd be so lost
User option 1 in ViperMod
I used nachoroot. So I don't know. You could use that too. I am putty sure you choose 1 tho in vipermod.

No root for you until you read for awhile man. I at this point i am not comfertable with your knowledge base. Read. Read some more. Google adb. Read some more. Learn. Your frustration is from your lack of knowledge. Just an fyi; I like honey comb better then ics. Maybe you'll feel the same.
I was able to update to ics by manually downloading from the asus website. Tried vipermod again and still got adb unrecognized so I looked up how to install adb which I did. Still nothing. Tried to root via nachoroot and after the second adb command line I got permission denied. I downloaded they su file and the nacho root file And moved them both to the tools folder in SDK.yes I know My lack of understanding can be difficult to deal with but I'm still new at this and I'm doing my best to learn

Nothing to be worried about
You have and awesome ROM, the problem is the Kernel.
So all you need to do is to install guevor's kernel 17 for instance (it is the one I have working fine til now) and you're pc would reconigze the transformer!
still not detected
Thanks for the response..
But sadly I am already using 17c, but my pc still can't see my device..

Now I don't know how to help you. Try to put your question in megatron's thread. It's most likely that you get more answers
Iam not even able to boot with 17c. I found 16 megatron specific kernel most stable (17 works too). Try the 16 megatron specific kernel
I would have posted in megatron thread if only I could. My account is still new and I still can't post in dev...
Tried 16 still no luck.. tried reflashing the rom still no luck. Hope someone here has the answer to my problem..

Try playing around with MTP
Settings>Storage>Hit the 3 dots at the top right corner>USB computer connection>Make sure MTP is checked, if it is, uncheck and check it again.
you might also have to install driver again.

I will try your suggestions. I'll keep youbguys posted. Thanks!
Tried to tick and untick the mtp option but still my transformer is not being recognized by my pc.. sigh.. might as well try another rom or go back to stock..
I am having the exact same problem. I just switched from the stock kernel to the guevor 16 kernel and now my PC recognizes the transformer but it says that the ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface failed to install.
Eclipse says that ADB is running normally but it doesn't show any devices in the android device chooser.
Anything I should try?

Unlock tool confirmed working on JB 4.2.1 - just unlocked the bootloader on my totally stock TF700T JB 4.2.1 (WW). Now to flash CROMI-X! :victory:
Stupid easy (locked-root)

Extract.
Double click run.bat.
Answer a couple of questions.

when you're running motochopper, you get that message?
if so, make sure you have "usb debugging" enabled under setting>developer options.
also, try reinstalling the drivers for the tf700
connect it via usb, before running motochopper, on the folder of motochopper there is
a file that says "adb" run that before running the "run" file.
usually that message is for a bad driver or because adb isnt reading your tablet.
hope that helps keep me updated.

Hey thanks for the reply, but still nothing! :*(
I have done everything but install new drivers. (My drivers are working properly)
But is there a chance there are 4.2 drivers? Which might be the problem? Not sure..

Hmm...I would suggest deleting the drivers, and downloading the drivers from the Asus website. And then make sure your ADB can find your tablet. Run the adb file first and then the run file. You should have no problem. Try cold booting your device as well and make make sure you have usb debugging checked.
If this fails, the most probable solution would be going to another thread and downloading the debugfs tool for tf700. I'm not at my computer now so I can't give you the direct link. But if you search for it you'll find it. I did a while back.
Keep me updated.
That is the quickest and easiest root I've ever done on a device! Thanks for keeping it simple :good::good:
HI -
I followed the instructions on this thread and was ulocked/rooted in less than five minutes - installed TWRP - made a nandroid backup - then did something I am afraid was incredibly stupid. I was going to do a wipe per instructions before installing a ROM and I selected "Advanced" and wiped everything instead of just doing a factory wipe.
Now when powered on it is stuck at the ASUS initial screen.
Hoping this can be fixed - can anyone help me out.
Thanks!

If you had a rom downloaded, you wiped it
Download the rom you want to flash to a microSD, insert it into your tablet, reboot into TWRP, select the microSD and install the zip.
Make sure you have a compatible recovery and rom combination.
What's your recovery version and what rom do you want to flash?

Thanks for this. Initially, I was stuck on adb not finding the device - I killed the batch file and then ran
Code:
adb devices
and sure enough, nothing there.
I had to manually uninstall the drivers and then let Windows find them again - this time there was an unknown device, and then Windows found the MTP device and loaded it.
Then it took all of 27 seconds from start to finish lol.
Thanks again - Now I owe Djrbliss yet another contribution....

hey, sorry i took so long to reply, but like bern said, you're in no trouble. just do what he said and you should be fine.
just download the ROM you want or the stock rom of asus (which i wouldnt install. try cromix or parandroid or black bean theyre very good.)
put it on an sd card and boot to recovery. then the twrp should pop up, and install the rom.
if you need help on choosing the options let me know when you'll do it and ill be glad to guide you.

I had the same problem with my tablet. I was on 4.1 and updated to 4.2 the bootloader was still unlocked but root was gone when 4.2 loaded. The developer options turns off when you update the OS so you have to go back into the settings, hit about tablet, then go down to the build number and tap it 7 (seven) times. Developer options will then become available. Go into them and make sure that the options you need for rooting are enabled, i.e. USB debugging. Then run motochopper and root will be available again.
This info is posted elsewhere on the forum but as this topic is not closed I figured it would be good to make sure it was posted here too.

Same issue here. Had it rooted under 4.1.2 updated to 4.2.1 and now the chopper can't root it. Pushes the SU app, but failed when it try to root.
Kage_
I'll just bump this to say I have the same issue. EVERY root method I've tried does not work. Motochopper, trying to flash a custom recovery. Nothing....
See this post. Assuming you are bootloader unlocked and on 4.2.1 this will work. It worked on my TF300T with an unlocked bootloader and 4.2.1 firmware. I even ran it *before* I got TWRP back on the device. BTW, make sure you use TWRP 2.5.0.0. 2.6.x.x doesn't recognize the boot partition on the 4.2 firmware. This is documented elsewhere in the Transformer forums here on XDA.
What about the newer method mentioned in the later parts of the motochopper thread?

I gave it a shot, to no avail. My bootloader is unlocked. I'm not sure what's going on here. When I opened up the program it says no device connected, though my Transformer is connected. Asus Sync also says it's not connected. But when I check my computer drives, "Asus Transformer Pad TF300T shows up... but it's not listed in my usb connections. I'm able to transfer files to and from the tablet. Man, I've never had such a tough time rooting an Android device.

Unknown sources has no effect.
Then you need to update your drivers. The easiest ones to use are the ones in the google sdk. I never had any luck with asus ones. The set I eventually ended up with work really well are attached below.

Great, thanks for posting that link! I'll give it a try when I'm back in town and post an update.
I'm also having trouble rooting, same build and 4.2.1, and the main problem is that SuperSU won't install properly, and manually moving the file won't work due to the fact that I don't have permission...
Anyone find a good solution yet?
I've rooted and installed custom roms on all my HTC phones, never had this much hassle getting it to work.
EDIT: Just got TWRP recovery installed, and SuperSU, using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
I followed the "installing TWRP-recovery" part a bit down, and that's it.
