So is there no rooting method?

It is very new. Not many own it yet, but I do It is fully rootable using Razorclaw, provided you update to the latest current firmware (USA 16GB model..can't speak for the rest). Afterward, I used the recoveryinstaller.apk and installed Clockwork, made a backup, and now awaiting a custom rom.

Thanks,,,,, that's what I did when I got it..........installed all the updates. I have a white 16gb US version slider bought from newegg.com. I basically just got it a week or so ago & I really like it but the rooting (or not being able to rather) was depressing me cuz I finally found a tablet I liked, this one (Asus Slider) of course.
I just want the basic rooting to use custom fonts & a few other apps that require a rooted device. My google account automatically installed Superuser & stuff from my account. Should I uninstall that till I root it?
Do I need to use Razorclaw while plugged into my pc? I use WinXP Pro.
Thanks for everyone's help!

This is the best part. With Razorclaw, you do not need a computer at all. Just pur the APK on the microSD card, enable to install unknown sources (in settings) and install it. Next, run it and click to root. Easy as pie. Does not matter if you install or uninstall SU, as Razorclaw installs it for you when launched.
And I agree, the Slider is the best tab on the market in my honest opinion. It's essentially a better built Transformer (no offense to the Transformer fans!)

Scared to Update Slider :-(

I have an Asus Slider 16gb and I rooted with razorclaw when i first got it. I don't really get how roms work and never installed "Recovery installer" but I downloaded it. After root, my tablet worked the way I wanted it so I didn't mess with it.
Now I keep getting prompted to install an Asus firmware update (actually its been asking since its release a month or so ago) but I'm afraid it'll take my root away and i won't be able to root it again. I have lots of apps that depend on it being rooted so I don't wanna lose that.
I haven't ever updated the "Asus Storage app" either because I heard that the root depended on as exploit in the Asus storage prgram.
Does ANYONE know what will happen exactly if i update firmware?
I'm asking now because its beginning to use a nag screen more often, asking me to update & saying its already downloaded. Can anyone help this semi clueless girl please?
Thank you!

Half your luck, I haven't been able to find one of these anywhere
Updating with an official, manufacturer-supplied update will break root for you. If there is no known exploit in the new version, you won't be able to obtain it again.
I'd recommend Googling 'Asus slider x.x.x (version number of update) root' or something similar and seeing what you find. If there's an exploit and a method, all well and good. If there's not and you absolutely need root, I would err on the side of caution until something concrete is found.
It isn't the most popular device, so it may take some digging to find what you are looking for.
Best of luck!
Thanks...guess I'll search :-(

Apparently not, and it seems to be an issue with all Transformer tablets.
Solutions for other devices seem to be very device-specific after a quick browse, and involve editing build.prop files and such.

new transformer just came in

i opened it excited to install ics and root but it says theres no firmware update serial code is b80 if that matters. should i just leave wifi on and it'll eventually connect to asus servers?
Just root it, flash CWM and install Revolver v4

Nope. Just search vipermod. You don't need an update if you have cwm. You can just install what ever you want then. Including the update..
i just realized that the android version still 3.1 do i still have to update it to 3.2 or anything? if so how?

Last try; search for vipermod. Root it. Install cwm. All this other stuff doesn't matter. Or search and read for a few days. No one is going to hand you the information. Hell its stickied......good luck.

thanks. the last thing im having trouble with is the drivers installation it also says disable asus sync and the splashtop but i cant find those two apps anywhere. also vipermod got updated so the choices are now:
1: root (only method for prime on ICS v9.x.x.11)
2: root (only method for prime on ICS v9.x.x.8)
3: alt root (recommended for TF101 also works with prime on v8.x.x.x)
4. unroot
5. install unlock tool and flash cwm
6 donate
7 exit
from my understanding i would connect the tablet to my laptop, kill asus sync and splashtop somehow, then open the vipermod app and press 3? i cant tell you how thankful i am for everyone helping me i'd be so lost
User option 1 in ViperMod
I used nachoroot. So I don't know. You could use that too. I am putty sure you choose 1 tho in vipermod.

No root for you until you read for awhile man. I at this point i am not comfertable with your knowledge base. Read. Read some more. Google adb. Read some more. Learn. Your frustration is from your lack of knowledge. Just an fyi; I like honey comb better then ics. Maybe you'll feel the same.
I was able to update to ics by manually downloading from the asus website. Tried vipermod again and still got adb unrecognized so I looked up how to install adb which I did. Still nothing. Tried to root via nachoroot and after the second adb command line I got permission denied. I downloaded they su file and the nacho root file And moved them both to the tools folder in SDK.yes I know My lack of understanding can be difficult to deal with but I'm still new at this and I'm doing my best to learn

[Q] Unlocking the bootloader on a new TF300T

Has anyone been able to unlock the bootloader on a new TF300T (serial no. starting with C9...) that shipped with JB already installed? I'm getting the "An unknown error occurs" message and wondering if it is the same for all the new TF300Ts.

Yes. I tried the Asus Unlock Utility V7 from the Asus Support website, but it gets an error and does not unlock. I think a lot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if it is related to the newer "C9..." range of serial numbers.
Mine starts with C9 and it worked for me.

Same problem here. Serial with C9 and I get the "Unknown error occurs..." thing. I've been trying every couple hours since I got it Monday (tried it on 10.4.2.9, 10.4.2.17, and now 10.4.2.18 that came out today) and same error every time. I've even wiped it a couple of different times to no avail.
It does not work on my tablet JB per loaded.
Just purchased from Best Buy, this is really a nice device.
Just ned to get it unlocked and rooted.

can you post / or email me the file you used? I have not been able to get the file i downloaded to work.
I'll PM you the link for the one I used. You'll have it shortly.
I had originally posted a download link for MediaFire that I had made but wasn't sure if the Mods would let it stay up so I removed it. Check your PM box, it's there. Hope it works for you.

So I called ASUS tech support about my bootloader unlock issue. Man, they are horrible. Totally unknowledgable and of no help. One guy thinks the apk is a driver and the tablet is a notebook. So I tried another tech support guy and he just puts me on hold for 20 mins to try to look for the apk on their website only to come back and tell me he can't find it.

Could you elaborate?
1) Where do you put the file? Internal SD? External SD? Exact Path?
2) How do you install? Boot into recovery and install?

It doesn't matter where you put it. APK files are (kinda) the android equivalent of a .exe on Windows. To install it, transfer it to your tablet somewhere you can find it, then open file manager, navigate to the apk file and open it. It should bring up the install dialog, (assuming you have unknown sources enabled) and install the app. Once installed open the app from the launcher or the drawer, go through the agreements and click the unlock button. It should work from there (it errors out at this point for me, but if it's going to work this is where the actual "Unlocking" will happen.)

At least you got people actually willing to help. When I called, The guy put me on hold for 3 min (after verifying EVERY single piece of information I filled out on the online form) then came back and told me the process voids my warranty (which I knew already) and said that this was primarily a "Warranty/support company" (his words not mine) and that they can't assist me in voiding my warranty. He was acting nice about it, but he acted as if the sole reason I was trying to do this was to void my warranty.
Thanks for grabbing that question Reffu.
I transferred it to my external SD and installed. The file is straight up apk so you don't need to be in recovery to install it. I just navigated to the SD with file manager, tapped on the apk and installed it.
You can transfer it to the internal too. It really doesn't matter where it's at. (Internal or external)
Edit:
I was connected to wifi when I unlocked my bootloader. Are you guys connected to wifi when you are trying to unlock? Don't know if it matters or not. Just saying.

I have contacted Asus as well. I sent mine in, already unlocked, because of a system board issue. It was an issue which came from the factory, but regardless, I unlocked it and voided the warranty, so I paid to have the board replaced and just got the unit back. Now I can't unlock either.
When I talked to a 'supervisor' I was told they would not help me with my issue because they do not support unlocking the device and will not tell you how to do it. I told him I KNOW HOW (dumbass), it's not working. Regardless, they wouldn't help at all. So now I have a repaired tablet which WENT OUT unlocked and came back without the ability to unlock. THANKS ASUS!!!
In all seriousness, Asus is renowned for having quality overclocking motherboards, vid cards, etc. to gain performance, yet they won't provide a tablet in the same manner, this is ridiculous.
Can this tablet be rooted without unlocking the bootloader? If so, is there a rom that use the stock kernel?
Just picked this tablet up and the version of JB install will not work with the Unlock apk.

As far as I'm aware, there is no root for Jelly Bean that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader, I've been looking and haven't found one yet .
Also, FYI even if you were rooted, you couldn't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader. Rooted means you have the ability to access system files and settings. Most (all?) custom roms are rooted, but at least on this tablet, you can't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader, even for those who managed to get root before Jelly Bean.

Okay, I spent some time this weekend looking for a root of build number 10.4.2.13 and was not able to find one.
Its looks like I am out of luck with unlocking the boot loader or rooting this tablet.
I will continue my research or return the tablet to BB.

Just purchased can i root JOP40D.WW.epad-10.6.1.27.1-20130711 ?

Hi, I just purchased a TF300 from ebay (arrived this morning).. My first task was to try and root it and I've been at it all day without success. I've trawled many forums, used search bars galore and don't know what to do. I've tried Motochopper (which I now know doesn't work) along with other various apps to no avail. I've even unlocked the machine thinking that would help but no.
Obviously this wont have been rooted before so where does it leave me? What are my options? I'm rather new to android (only got my Galaxy S4 a month ago) but i'm learning quick.. just a bit frustrated as to where to go now..
any help greatly appreciated
Thanks

well first you unlock your bootloader with the app from the asus site, the use fast to install a custom recovery (twrp 2.5.0.0) the use twrp to flash the custom rom, and if you flash cromi-x it looks completely stock the only difference is if you go into settings and look at the about tablet tab then it says cromi-x in the build tab, there is a step by step guide to getting twrp installed and ill talk you through installing cromi-x if you want but it isreally easy

Trying to root.. Nightmare

What an absolute cluster. I am trying to use motochopper, right now I am installing USB drivers.
When I select "browse for software on your computer" it only lets me pick folders, not allowing me to pick the actual file that I need. I can't find a way around this, even placing the file in the folder doesn't help. I attached a picture to help.
Thank you in advance for assisting me with this headache. I have unlocked the device already, need to root it and then have a customer recovery, and eventually get on kitkat because the stock rom on this TF300 is almost unusable.

If you can't find another solution, you can using Framaroot. It runs only on the tablet (no ADB needed) and works on some Android versions.
You can always try Kingo. It worked like a champ on my TF300T and my Note 3.

I think the best option is to use fastboot to install a custom recovery such as TWRP then root it from the recovery. If you are planning on flashing a custom ROM you will have to do this eventually anyway.
Are you up to date with the latest stock ASUS ROM? Which custom ROM are you going to use if that is your plan?
All questions that will determine the best way to move forward AND which custom recovery to install.
Best of luck.

For some reason it won't do any OTA updates. I haven't looked too much into roms, sounds like cromni-x or something is what I want. I don't want bleeding edge, I want reliability and smoothness. This is my first tablet I've done this process to, my S3 was easy and my other older phones were even easier. I will look into the methods posted, as well as posting my current tablet info shortly. Thank you very much guys!
Framaroot app says my device won't take the exploit. Kingo says device not connected with both usb debugging enabled and disabled, even though I can see it on my pc and am able to transfer files.
Running 4.1.1 with build number 10.4.2.20, will be on this project all day so by all means please give more advice!
EDIT: I am doing a fresh install of windows 7 in case some of these issues are related to it not being detected correctly. I have had issues with microsd cards and other usb devices before.
Just use kingo root

Once you've unlocked it, it will not do updates via the standard method. You will have to flash via fastboot. Before you flash CROMi-X you will need to flash the stock Asus JB 4.2.1. If I understand correctly, you are not able to connect to your PC in fastboot mode? Are you in the bootloader when you attempt to use fastboot? If that is the case then you probably don't have the correct drivers installed. It has been over a year since I installed everything on my PC so I am a little foggy on where to get all of the correct drivers and software. If I remember correctly I downloaded them from Asus. I believe I downloaded and installed ASUS Pad PC Suite which installed the correct drivers. Then you need fastboot which can be found on several threads including the one I first provided to you.
Just because you are connected as a media device and can transfer files back and forth does not mean you have the right drivers installed and can use fastboot. You are connecting at a totally different level.
What ever you do, be sure you are matching versions of bootloader/recovery/ROM. Don't flash a 4.2.x version recovery onto a 4.1.x version bootloader. This goes double for 4.4.x version ROM's. If you do , you will brick your tablet. Also, I suggest doing an NVflash backup once you have fastboot up and running BEFORE you flash anything custom. It is a long process with many steps but in the long run you will be thankful you did if you should make a mistake and brick your tablet.
If you have questions, ask but do a lot of research first. All of the info you need is on this forum but you need to spend the time reading and becoming familiar before going forward. We have all been where you are at one time and had to do the research. It is time well spent. Having bricked one smart phone because I got in a hurry I am speaking from experience.

Having bricked one smart phone because I got in a hurry I am speaking from experience.

yes the problem is windows drivers, many TF can't be even unlocked and the latest kingo downloads the drivers and installs them for him, also starting the asus sync app tricks the pc to see the tablet during the root, that is actually an asus problem

I agree it does appear to be a driver issue. But he stated the following, "Kingo says device not connected with both usb debugging enabled and disabled, even though I can see it on my pc and am able to transfer files." That tells me Kingo didn't install any drivers.
Not sure about the PC being tricked since after I installed the Asus PC sync app the drivers were installed and I was able to uninstall the sync app without losing the drivers. I did a complete nvflash backup, and have installed numerous custom ROM's, from ICS to JB to KK without ever touching Kingo. I've since upgraded to Windows 8 then 8.1 and still am able to do whatever I desire from flashboot and adb, all with the same drivers I originally installed from the Asus PC sync app.
Also, being unlocked and being rooted are two different things entirely. You must be unlocked before you can be rooted but you don't have to be rooted to be unlocked. You can also install a custom recovery or ROM that will take care of rooting once the proper drivers are installed without ever using Kingo, Motochopper or any such app.
Not saying Kingo wouldn't work, but it does seem he has tried that without success.
One clarification to the above post. You do NOT have to be unlocked to root.

Hmmmm...not sure about that since I unlocked before I even attempted to get root access. But you can't install custom recoveries, or ROM's without being unlocked. In fact you don't have access to fastboot mode without being unlocked.
I am not even sure what the point of rooting is if you don't want to install a custom recovery and ROM. Sure, you can uninstall system apps and free up some space but only to a point. And the performance is still going to be sluggish. Customization for my tablet has kept it fresh and like new, negating the need to buy a new tablet. Performance is on par with anything I would be interested in buying.

100% sure since I have never unlocked and rooted it with Kingo.
Agree that unlocking required for most everything else.

To answer your earlier question about only rooting...
30+ years in IT, dealing with family, customers and coworkers is more than enough.
Just being able to install ad blockers, apps like Titanium BU and completely debloating the device can be more than enough. This is key when you don't need the hassle of screwing up or bricking your daily driver device(s).

I suppose. But if all you do is root and install ad blockers and Titanium BU Root the odds of bricking your device are slim to none, though as sbdags has pointed out, removing the wrong system files with Titanium BU or any root uninstaller can soft brick the device.

You can softbrick it with TiBu by removing the wrong /system files so do be careful. You would either then have to flash back to stock to repair or unlock it to flash a custom rom. But yes you can achieve some enhancements just by rooting but you can't do much tweaking safely as you have no backup system.
