My setup:
Phone: Sensation 4G
Rom: InsertCoin 4.6.1 ICS
Current Kernel: Sebastian 1.5ghz Kernel
Which kernel is best for battery & performance?

Sebastian FM's is the only custom one for ICS so far AFAIK

this one?
I'm on InsertCoin 4.6.1 but it has no 1.5ghz option, how do I apply the Sebastian kernel, the InsertCoin ROM is all one zip file, where do I get just the kernel download from and how do I load/install using 4ext recovery touch, finally is the Sebastian kernel completely compatible with InsertCoin 4.6.1?

Download Seb's Kernel (see my sig) and use 4ext to apply, like you would a new Rom.
Job done

No worries I had backups, restored back to InsertCoin 4.5.4 which was the version to have the 1.5Ghz option, could have been the firmware as I didn't update it as I thought I was on the latest but not sure what the Sebastian kernel needs.
Anyway it's back working now, I might do a few more checks and try again or chicken out and wait for baadnwz to release 4.6.2 which he's said will have the 1.5Ghz option back in. Was probably just me assuming rather than checking, thanks for the pointers though!

Hi,
I tried several kernels for JB. Air, Matrix. None of them worked for me. After flashing it, it won't boot the system and turn off the device. I currently use JellyBelly 1.5. Any idea? Is it ROM bug? Thanks!

I can't use Adam's Jelly Belly rom, as I have a NS4g, but I do follow his work. I believe that his rom comes with Thalamus kernel, and if you want to flash a different kernel, there is a file which needs to be deleted before doing so. There was quite a discussion about all this in his thread in the development forum. That's where you can figure it out ... good luck!
same for me
Hey i also tried to flash thalamus kernel but my phone didnt start it was hanged up on the boot screen. I am using Nexus S i9023 SCLD version stock rom 4.1.1 build JRO03E and it is rooted.
Can anyone please help me and also which other kernels are supported on stock rom.
There's a script you must delete in the init.d to use another kernel in Jelly Belly 0.1.5
Otherwise, your phone will poweroff

i have also a i9023 and i have allredy flashed bedalus kernel, thalamus and air kernel also matrix and vta2 worked for me..
i use JRO03E DX stock ROM..never had a problem
S.R.
(I use stock JB with Air #153, and got i9023. No OC, no NSTools, yet. I have no problem.)
On stock:
Try to do a factory reset/wipe data, or reflash the OS from scratch using factory images. And right after flashing the rom, flash the kernel. Even before installing any apps.
On JBelly:
For this, I think the Thalamus kernel is the best, the rom is come with it, so they made for each other If this kernel works with it, i think it is unnecessary to switch to another kernel right now.
Because JB kernels are not final yet, are "immature", there can be compatibility issues, collisions between (certain functions of) roms and kernels.
After a 2 or 3 releases, both on rom and kernel side, there will be more complete and stable versions.
Have you tried to fix permissions ?
Go to /etc/init.d/ folder and delete a file called 'kernel'. You can read it first if you want.
This is basically a hack that AdamG added to avoid everyone changing kernels and reporting problems about the ROM. He only allows thalamus kernel.
Can please provide me detailed steps of how to flash a thalamus kernel on stock jb because i think the procedure is wrong. I did the following steps:
1. Reboot into recovery( I am using Clockwork Mod recovery touch 6.0.1.0)
2. Wipe Cache partition
3. Wipe Dalvik cache
4. Install the kernel zip file
And after i tried restarting my phone but it hanged up on the boot screen.
Please someone advise me the correct steps if this is wrong
. Thanks in advance

I think the cache partition wipe is your problem. You shouldn't have to wipe anything if you're flashing _thalamus' kernel on stock JB. Just flash and reboot. I've done it plenty of times without problems.

To not have to deal with third party kernel support there is /system/etc/init.d/00kernel that simply powers off your phone if you flash another kernel.
Flash the rom to boot it, delete the file, then flash any kernel you want as you usually would.

Firstly, thanks for replying. I need to do the folloing steps (just to confirm because its better to do so and also i dont want to again restore a backup)
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Install the kernel zip file
4. Fix Permissions
or 3. Fix Permissions, and then
4. Install kernel zip file
Please advise the correct steps and thanks in advance.
(I know i am getting a bit more concerned because i had it twice and i am not able to flash the same. So, I am trying to get a correct way and this the best place to ask. XDA rocksssssss<3<3<3)

There's no need for all that... flash jellybelly latest version, boot with the original kernel and delete /system/etc/init.d/00kernel with Rom Toolbox or Root explorer. After that you can flash the kernel that you want. Mind that this will only work for version 0.1.5.1, versions after that one will probably have a framework check to prevent flashing 3rd party kernels because the dev of jellybelly doesn't want to be disturbed with bugs caused by other kernels then not the Thalamus one.
---------- Post added at 08:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 AM ----------
Checked. Version 1.0.0 only allows Thalamus kernel to be flashed. A framework check doesn't allow 3rd party kernels to be fixed so either you stick to the stock kernel of jellybelly or get another ROM so you can use other Kernels.

What I always do.. (phone i9023 X-JB Stock).
1. flash kernel zip
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik
4. fix permissions
i only know that thalamus kernel don´t need any wipe...also i don´t know if this procedure is right or not
and i don´t won´t discuss about i only can report what worked for me so try it or not its your decision....

Thank you shivasrage and DeuXGod. I am surely goona try out this, i am being eagerly waiting to flash a custom kernel because as compared to ICS i feel JB is eating up more battery. Thank you so much:good:
Hello guys,
I'm new here and my device is HTC Sensation XE with stock rom, stock kernel, 4EXT Touch Recovery, Rooted, ICS. Today i decided to overclock, so i want to install Sebastian Kernel. First, i flash Powerfull Kernel Reset i got from Aroma Mod Thread from my 4EXT recovery. And then i flash Overclocked Kernel v 1.5.2 by SebastianFM and then i flash Mod for SB kernel v 2.4
I Rebooted it and then i stuck on the Splash Screen (White Background with HTC logo), just that. Please help me guys. I forgot to make the back up, because what? because i'm a noob. I don't know if there's a back up feature.
Did you have 3.33 firmware? If you didn't have 3.33, try flashing 3.33 firmware first and then flash the kernel again.
If nothing works, flashing back the stock ROM should help.
Note: 4EXT Touch Recovery has a 'Backup' option. It's a good practice to backup your entire ROM with this feature before flashing kernels or mods.

Hyper nonsense is sense base. You installed the wrong kernel for it. Try the sense base sultan kernel. Not the aosp sultan kernel

You can try using a different recovery like TWRP. Back when I was S-ON and using 4ext, I got a lot of problems because 4ext was really glitchy (the problem you're experiencing is one of the problems I got with 4ext). Anyway, the way to fix this is to get the boot.img file from the hypernonsense ROM .zip file, reboot your phone to the bootloader, select fastboot, plug your phone into your computer, and flash the boot.img file using fastboot. Instructions in further detail on how to do this can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
If you have any questions on what to do then feel free to ask.
Sultan
PS: My AOSP kernel boots on Sense based ROMs but not everything works correctly or well (ex: USB doesn't work). Also, the problem you're having is not the kernel's fault.
Great thanks! I believed it is the end... I've got last question. Why performance gov is not recommended? Are there better settings to make my phone not miss a single UI animation frame ? ;p

Mainly because performance burns a lot of power and produces a lot of heat. I'll remove the "not recommended" flag from it in the next release. A good governor for a smooth UI is Lagfree.
Newbie here, first time want to flash custom rom.
I want to flash CyanogenMod 10.1.2 | Jellybean 4.2.2 - KANG. But i not sure the step and the file need.

I had download the files:

2.) "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip"
3.) "ChronicKernel-TW-jfvzw-RC2.zip"

Hi,
Make a nandroid and backup your phone first.
Wipe clean in recovery(Data,cacheand dalvik)
Flash the ROM and Gapps first, and boot up.
Let the ROM settle for a while, then flash the new kernel.

You don't "need" a new kernel. After a nandroid, do a full wipe except sdcard and flash rom and gapps, since you're coming from ics.
However, if you're dissatisfied with the kernel provided with the rom, then go ahead and flash that too.
JAM THAT THANKS BUTTON.
Happy to help.

Hi,
IIRC the Chronic kernel is included in the ROM.
Check after you have installed the ROM.
It is listed in settings/about phone.
Hello.
I've got problem with installing ROM Android Revolution HD 7.3. I bought Sensation, it's rooted, S-OFF, bootloader is unlocked, 4EXT Recovery Touch, I've flashed Universal Firmware 3.33. I done wipe data and wipe cache, flashed ROM but after reebot it's stuck on Beats logo. Nothings happened. I also tried do full wipe by superwipe script for Sensation, but that doesn't help. It still stucks on Beats logo. I aslo tried to flash boot.img via flashboot and cmd command. I unziped ROM file, found boot.img file for kernel which I want to install (faux) and flash it via fastboot. Then install ROM via installer included into ROM. After that it doesn't work either.
Can someone help me? I manage to flash different ROM: CM11 with ION and 3.0 kernel by Sultan, but i want to try Android Revolution HD. Maybe my battery will live longer
I appreciate any help.
how long did you wait on beats audio logo? because first boot up takes time

For me is great , but you have to try it yourself
for ARHD 7.3 ROM if it has in aroma installer to choose a kernel try with the stock one and see if it boots
make a full wipe from recovery before flashing the rom
I've already tried every one of 3 included. But I will try do it again now and wait for longer on Beats logo.
