bricked and faux kernel question ics - HTC Sensation

Hi, does anyone know if faux or bricked kernel builders are working on ICS kernel?I just loved their work on gingerbread

I think it's wrong thread, u should ask in Q&A. As far I know there is no source code so they can not work on it. SebastianFM has hex modified stock kernel for ICS builds.

Q & A should have been a better place to ask. I'm on SebastianFM for ICS 3.30.401.1 and is running smooth as hell.

My guess would be that these devs will create a kernel once the source is out officially. That's what I remember hearing n their threads a while back. Everything is looking like we should get an ics update by end of march. Let's hope..

No source code = no custom kernels (with the obvious exception of SebastianFM's hex edited ones)

HTC release the kernel source for sensation ?

http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-releases-kernel-source-for-8-devices_id24999
Does this help devs to build better Rom .
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
No, it doesn't help build a rom, it's kernel source.
Also, it's the same kernel source, just for different carriers.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
from what ive seen, doesnt the kernal affect the battery life and the battery reading? will this be something that may help devs improve their kernals for the battery usage/readings?
Nope, it's the same source the devs had when the 2.3.4 code first went up, just under a different carrier.

Kernel for insertcoin ice cream sandwich

I have recently rooted my sensation and installed the insert coin ice cream sandwich rom. However there seems to be a bit of lag while using it
Has anyone else noticed this, and know.of a kernel which works with this Rom, so I can increase the CPU frequency?
I have tried the standard xe kernel and the bricked kernel 1.4 but whenever I install them, they either do not work. Or my Rom gets held on the bears audio screen and does nothing else. This also happens when I attempt to install a theme from xda!

InsertCoin ICS Rom
The lags and other bugs are all well noted on Baadnews' forum as you will find. The ICS Roms are all in beta stage at the moment and so far as I am concerned, there is nothing you can do about it for now. Maybe in the course of time, improvements will be made.
If you want a "perfect" Rom I'd say stick with any of his gingerbread roms for now. I flashed the ICS but after trying it for tow days I decided I could not live with the kinks and went back to gingerbread.
Ahh okay. Thank you

This is because the ICS kernels are built on linux kernel 3.0.13
We have only kernel source for android 2.3.4 which runs linux kernel 2.6.14
Therefore no custom kernels will work with ICS at the moment

Difference between a sense and aosp bricked kernel

Is a Ics bricked kernel for sense or a nonsense Rom.a orc bricked kernel is a sense kernel correct?could someone please explain how to tell the differences.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
No, I saw Bricked only for Sense.
For the difference I do not know the exact changes. Probably in the driver files and settings for HTC made stuff.
Thanks that good to know so basically bricked kernels are only for sense roms.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Yes, correct. For more information visit: http://bricked.de/
That's not right I ran a bricked kernel on cm9 nightlies and that's a aosp Rom nonsense.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
This does not mean that you can not run CM9 with a sense kernel.
I ran CM7 with a sense kernel and vice versa on my desire - but that combination was causing issues and depending on ROM - freezes.
But for the Sensation it is a bit different - I remember CM9 with the stock ICS Sense kernel running, so maybe bricked is universal, you should ask the dev

The developer of the bricked kernel has yet to release an aosp kernel... So if you infact did flash his kernel on an aosp ics rom then it was either his aosp gb kernel, or his sense kernel! Either of which will likely not have full functionality! So you come here and asked questions and receive the answers and then tell us we are wrong...
I'm sorry I was not aware that you can run a sense bricked kernel on aosp roms sorry.and that's for the information.

Is it true that a Irc kernel is a sense kernel?what does Irc and gb bricked kernels stand for?and as of now bricked kernels are some what universal.

Kernel version question

Ok... So i just flashed the new Mik version of sense 3.6 ics... And I'm slightly confused. The kernel version shows 2.6.35... Is that a modified GB kernel or a fully ICS kernel? A friend of mine said it's modified GB... And if so what makes it GB? (wasn't sure if this belonged in Dev or general so posted in general lol)

I believe that GB is all based on the 2.X.X series of kernel, whilst ICS and JB are coming from the newer 3.X.X series. There were quite a few changes in the mainline Linux kernel around this, which I expect is also true of the Android kernels (since they are very very very very similar).
If you haven't already then you should try CM9, it's based on ICS. Might not have the SenseUI stuff you like, but I found it to be an incredibly smooth OS.
The Sense 3.6 Kernel is a modified GB Kernel, just like the poster above me said. Most of our ICS Roms all have 3.0 Kernels. MikXE can have a Virtuous 3.0 kernel, but it has not been built.

Wow I forgot i posted this... I've run literally every ICS rom on this site now... Thanks for the info guys mods can delete this post

Attention kernel devs: 3.4.10

HTC just uploaded the Ville_C2 jelly bean kernel sources. For those that don't already know it is the One S with the sensations processor in it, the msm8x60.
http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/villec2-jb-crc-3.4.10-055bd56.zip
My repo is https://github.com/XirXes/pyramid-3.4.10
I don't have it compiling yet but it's quite the start. After we resolve any compile errors we need to port over the touch panel driver and our display.
Let the porting begin.
BTW lik doesn't work.
Then just go to HTC dev and grab the One S source for 3.17.401.102. It will have villec2 in the filename.
so,JB with sense4.5 for sensation will come soon, cheers
Actually that's jb with sense 4.5 not 5. 5 won't come until the ville gets sense 5

I'm pretty sure that even with the same processor, kernel source for another device is quite useless to us.
If I'm wrong someone with kernel dev'ing experience please tell me so!
EDIT: Even if I am wrong, my nexus 7 is only at 3.1.10, officially and on every custom kernel. I find it hard to believe 3.4.10 could get ported to the sensation without a very, very substantial amount of work and hackery.
Is this true?

Porting 3.4.10 code for the VilleC2 to the Sensation is very possible. The only reason why it's possible is because the Sensation and the VilleC2 have the same chipset. I've even built a kernel for the Sensation using VilleC2 source and it booted.

i'm so excited! And i just cant hide it!!
pretty cool. i tryed changing a bunch or refernces around from ville to pyramid but got a compile error pretty quick lol. someone else needs to do this heh
Has anyone identified if this version still uses pmem? Wouldn't it be wonderful if Qualcomm / HTC got ion together for us?!
Hey, a boy can dream...
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 2
This definitely has ion. The 4.0.4 sources for the villec2 had it aswell. Also as a bonus this kernel may score us powered OTG. The stuff has always been there but was dissabled in the source due to hardware concerns. It doesn't require the charging chip we discussed in the otg thread. The 8660 has the ability on chip.

It's a Jelly Bean kernel so it HAS to use ION.
New kernel source ... New GPU drivers ... Bright future for the sensation! Let the porting begin!
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
if this can work in both devices, i am unable to know why HTC can't release for Sensation? This is an open abuse to customers like us for using old phone!
