USB Mounting Issues in ICS? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Several people in the CWM Flashable ICS ROM thread (including myself) are finding that USB Mounting/ADB does not work in ICS. Is anyone else having this issue? Specifically people who received the update OTA and non-rooted? It seems the Transformer recognizes that I have plugged in a USB cable, but the debugging icon never shows up, ADB reports no devices, and my computer acts as though nothing has been connected to it. I'm curious if this is a widespread ICS issue on the TF101, or just the specific ROM...

Updated from OTA here and USB flash mounts and works normaly. Can't test ADB right now.

I flashed both the FULL CWM US and WW versions today and found that USB is not working at all.
It'll freeze up for a second and then it'll go back to normal. --> no USB connection
I'll go back to stock 3.2.1 and update over OTA. I'll report back once I'm done!
---
Edit: Going back to stock and letting it do the update OTA works. USB is fully working now.

Are you rooted now also or just stock?
Wondering if it's the root that's breaking the USB connection.

Same problem here
I posted this in another thread earlier but it's a better fit here. I've tried the US and WW full flash versions on a WW TF today and haven't been able to mount via USB with either. Checking debugging doesn't help. Never had a problem previously.

I'm not having any issues with ADB or USB mounting on my TF.

daxtsu, are you unrooted or rooted? And how did you upgrade to ICS? Also, if you could please check under settings > Battery. On the right side, do you see "Battery Usage data not available"?

Nope, it's not the root breaking USB.
I rooted my B60 tablet after upgrading to ICS, it's working fine now!
This is what I did: I'm on ICS and USB is working fine.
Tutorial:
Step 1: Download the latest corresponding firmware for your tablet from the official Asus Website:
For example: UpdateLauncher_WW_epaduser8_6_5_21
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
Unzip the file you have downloaded. Put the zip-file onto your external SD Card.
Step 2: Shutdown your tablet. Press VOLUME DOWN + POWER at the same time until your screen turns on. Then quickly press VOLUME UP.
You are in recovery mode now.
Do a factory reset.
Install the ZIP you downloaded from the ASUS website.
Step 3: Restart your tablet. Welcome back to Honeycomb! Set up your Wifi and let it download ICS over-the-air.
Step 4: Apply the ICS OTA update
Step 5: Your tablet will reboot a couple of times. Then: Welcome to ICS!
Choose your preferred rooting method!
Step 6: Root your tablet. I used "One Click Universal Root for Stock Firmware"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
Note that this only applies to tablets which are older than B70/80.
You may be successful using another rooting method.
Install CWM
Step 7: Do a factory reset through CWM!
Step 8: Enjoy! Please click "Thanks" if you found my post helpful. Post if you have any problems.

Yeah, I do get Battery usage data not available. But other than that, no USB issues.

What was your upgrade method? Did you download the OTA, or use one of the ROMS here on XDA?

At the moment I'm running a ROM I made myself. But before that I reverted completely to stock honeycomb .21(including recovery, then rooted) and then installed the OTA dlpkg. I didn't have any USB issues on HC, stock ICS, or my custom ICS.

It seems the USB issues are only for people who installed the CWM ICS version as opposed to taking the OTA. Now I just need to see if there will be a fix, or if it would be faster to go back to stock and then accept the OTA...

I was having the same issue and flashed the us ICS update from the link below and it started working. I flashed right on top of the current ICS i had installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334673

Throwing my voice in here. Used the CWM ICS ROM, no USB connection.

I'll try flashing the other US ICS on top of my ROM... see what happens... crossing my fingers... If this works, itohead will be getting my Thanks

I upgraded to ICS by first going back to stock HC via nandroid backup, then installing stock recovery, and pullin OTA update. No problems with the USB connection. ADB works fine. One thing however - my Vista-64 installed new drivers when I connected the tablet to it. So maybe the problem is on the Windows side? Check your drivers first.

Flashing that image over mine worked great!

[UPDATE] CWM - Stock + Root 8.6.5.19 US / WW (11/11/11)

This is the Stock 8.6.5.19 US or WW update repackaged for Clockwork mod.
This update DOES NOT:
* Root your device if it's not already rooted
* Install clockworkmod
* Install at all if you aren't rooted
* Install at all if you don't already have clockworkmod.
This update has:
* Clockworkmod support (It does not include CWM, but doesn't reflash the recovery partition either)
* Rooted (includes SuperUser.apk & su 3.0.0)
* Busybox (1.19.2)
This will not work unless you have:
1. clockworkmod
2. STOCK firmware (root is fine)
3. the US or WW firmware
4. firmware 8.6.5.18
If this update will not apply, take note of which assert stopped the process. You probably applied some sort of mod to your transformer.
CWM package for ASUS FOTA Update 8.6.5.19 US
http://bellybuttonporn.com/android/transformer/kwt-cwm-8.6.5.19.zip
Tested on my own tf101.
CWM package for ASUS FOTA Update 8.6.5.19 WW
http://bellybuttonporn.com/android/transformer/kwt-cwm-8.6.5.19-WW.zip
I have not tested this. Let me know if it works, brave soul!
Note that these updates require you to be on 8.6.5.18. If you didn't update to .18 because of the bugs, do that before trying this update.
Applied US version and it was just too darned easy. Usually I have to modify something but this worked first time.
Much thanks, -- Hashi
I'm running revolver, but want to go back to stock rooted and install this. How can I do this? Thanks,
worked
Somehow i lost root after installing this. Cmw is still installed and so is superuser but titanium backup wont work because it says it cannot get root.
Edit: i reinstalled cmw from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18789237&postcount=907 and now it works.
Worked great on my TF with WW.
Many thanks.

This will not work unless you have:
1. clockworkmod
----------Install ClockwordMod Recovery. If already installed skip to step 2
2. STOCK firmware (root is fine)
----------Install stock firmware with or without root. If already installed skip to step 3
3. the US or WW firmware
----------It must be the US or WW firmware. If not install correct firmware listed in step 4
4. firmware 8.6.5.18
---------This is the firmware version it must be. If not then install the correct firmware version.
I beg your forgiveness if this doesn't answer your question. I was just trying to be helpful.
This broke my WiFi. It goes to "Error" after trying to start. Flipping airplane mode on or off doesn't help.
EDIT: Fixed. I hadn't re-installed my OC kernel, so stuff was breaking.
Any ideas?

Worked without any problem on a rooted stock ROM WW model.
Worked for me on WW too, many thanks.
I can confirm that the WW update worked fine for me without any problems, thanks
everything works great except my bluetooth radio won't turn on and when I am docked I get no sound. I haven't tried a full wipe which would be the next step. I had to run a great deal of updates to get to this version so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

I second the wipe. I was initially running Prime and decided to go back to stock due to the numerous FC's I started to get starting apps after a few upgrades. My TF runs nice and smooth after flashing this, no problems with wifi or bluetooth and sound works as it should in my dock. I haven't really noticed any problems at all. And haven't really noticed much of a difference in speed or battery life between this and Prime.
don't suppose 8.6.6.19 WW is out as a flashable CWM zip ?

[Q] After .17 update PC doesn't see tablet

Hey guys,
I updated with the OTA update to .17 yesterday and I can now now longer access the tablet from my PC. I've tried different cables that I know work. I've tried a factory wipe. When I plug in my tablet to any PC, it's just not there. I don't hear the sound that it was plugged in. I don't see it in my device manager and adb doesn't see any devices.
Is there anything I can do at this point? I've lost root as I didn't have rootkeeper on which is how I found this problem.
Regards,
-Shawn
No worries
I just got it replaced from where I purchased it from as I was inside my return window.

I had similiar problems when I upgraded to the .11 build one of my transformers. I couldn't find any answers here that worked, so I had to RMA. Still waiting on it at the moment. My other one has been successfully updated to ics .11 and .17 with no problems.

Sgh-t869 cwm?

Hey guys, I just got a T-Mobile SGH-T869 and it came with Honeycomb on it.
I've been able to root it (which was as dumb as flashing a ZIP on the stock recovery), and I've flashed the CWM 5 I found (here). However, I'm unable to flash CM10 from that, so I'm looking to figure out what's wrong or the missing step.
Any suggestions?
Just to follow up on my own issue, I figured it'd be a good idea to update my SGH-T869 to ICS, because HoneyComb is kinda terrible.
For this device, at least for now, the "official" ICS update isn't being made available over the air, only available via the Samsung Kies program.
Its totally free and you can get it for Mac or Windows here http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
The procedure to update was seriously as dumb as "Install Kies, then plug in your device".
Kies should auto-detect and in the case of my SGH-T869, it immediately offered to update the firmware. However, Kies requires your battery to be charged up before it'll let you proceed, so initially it didn't allow me to flash (my battery was down to around 43%).
After updating this way, everything was back to stock and I had no root anymore.
I re-obtained root by downloading the two attached files. The attached CWM is a "temporary" touch-enabled version. Flashing it from the stock recovery boots you into CWM but after you reboot, its gone. I booted to that and then flashed the attached root.zip, which re-established root on my tablet.
So, sort of progress. Next step: figure out how to get CM10 on this bad boy, since the stock ICS kinda blows

[Q] Can't update after downgrade to ICS

hi, i just got my tablet back from repairs and i asked them to install ICS if they had to reset the firmware, and they did. now my problem is that i want to update to the 4.2 JB that came out (while my ASUS was in repairs for 3 WEEKS) but i can't. when i try to update, it just says "no update found". i have already talked to their "experts" and he just kept saying "oh, it come to your tablet when it ready" I have also tried to download the update from their site, but then when it tells you what version you need by looking at the build number, i noticed mine was IML74K.WW_epad-9.4..... and shouldn't it be something more like US_epad-9.4.....? i tried to install it anyways but it never detected it on the sd card. so then i tried to just use fastboot and flash it to the device, but when i entered the boot menu, THERE WAS NO OPTION!! In fact, there was only 2 options, wipe data, and boot android. there was no usb or RCK (or whatever it was) option. i also have several other problems, but i'll leave them for another day and another post, sense they may be related
Any help would be awesome sense it's obvious I'm not going to get much help from ASUS. Let me know if you need any other info too!
Thanks in advanced!!

The stock 4.2 (10.6.1.8) has an assert that will only allow it to be installed from 10.4.2.20. If memory serves me correctly ICS does not have the usb icon until unlocked. Also the new 4.2 bootloader only has three icons - no usb.
Are you unlocked? Most units that come from repair are not and can't be unlocked.
With all the unresolved issues on 4.2 I would not put it on my tablet at this time. There are many bricks waiting for a resolution.
thanks, that helped fix it!

I downloaded the 4.1 firmware and it detected it and installed it right away. I don't know why they couldn't tell me that when I called, but it fixed the problem. And I know you said not to, but I installed 4.2 anyways because I was too curious, and I have personally found no problems and like the new features.

GT-N8010 - Firmware Upgrade

Hey there!
Just ran into some troubles with my GT-N8010. I had been using stock on it for quite awhile, but have been noticing that many of the newer apps do not work with JB. I had rooted and used my Asus Transformer before, figured that it was probably about time to get some more life out of the Note 10.1.
My first option was to upgrade from JB to KitKat. Unfortunately there is not an official update in Canada, but using Odin I should have been able to upgrade it. This is where the issues came. First, it failed twice. I restarted the computer, and tried it once more. Success! It was downloading. It took a few moments, but eventually it failed as well. The download stopped and I was left looking at my tablet having 3/4 of the install complete. I left it for awhile, hoping that it would restart itself or reload. Nothing happened, and I had to restart the tablet.
Situation now: I am stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
First thing I tried was getting to the download screen, so I have that. I figured I could just flash it back to the offical JB from Canada, but now it's like the computer won't recognize the device. Even unplugging and plugging the USB back in does not even give me the PC Recognizing sound. I moved to a laptop, and it could read the device, but once I installed Samsung USB and Keis, it stopped. Odin doesn't recognize it and I am not sure where to go from here.
Is using the SD card an option? Can I somehow force the computer to read the tablet?
I have looked through the forums, but didn't really see much in the way of help.
I hope to hear from you guys! Thanks in advanced! If I need to provide more information, please ask.
Is using the SD card an option>>> NOT for stock custom rom only .
I don't mind installing a custom rom at this point. If it is still an option at this point the I don't mind at all. If there is anyway you could point me towards that option, I will definitely give it a shot.
The development threads.
You will need to flash a custom recovery tar through Odin .
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490954
Part of the problem is that the Odin, even my PC, are not recognizing the the Tablet is connected through my USB. So I cannot flash anything right now.
I figured it out. It was all because of my cord. I went out and got a new one, flashed 4.4.2 easily. Hope that helps everyone who has issues as I did.

Hi, I've read your posts. Helpful.
I'm in the situation of having tried to flash a custom recovery, to then flash a custom ROM.
Started Odin, began to flash, then Odin showed failed.
Now the n8000 no longer starts, just hangs after the Samsung logo/music.
I do have two different cords, so will try that later.
Question, did you end up flashing a custom ROM later, and if so, which one?
Thanks.
