[Q] Updating to 3.2 from rooted 3.1

I've looked high and low, but I can't find info on updating to 3.2 from root. I'm mostly terrified of losing everything I have setup on here when I update. Mostly just apps, movies, pics, and my layout. Can anyone put my fears to rest about updating? And can anyone provide a link on where I can get my hands on the update to install manually since it won't do an automatic update?

If you are running the stock ROM and have CWM recovery installed,
you can use CWM to update to the latest 3.2-9 (8.6.5.9):
1. Update from 3.1 (8.4.4.11) to 3.2 (8.6.5.6) using the ZIP from this post:

I have an overclock rom on my tablet. I don't think I can do it this way. I tried to flash the rom but it just spits out an error. It's able to mount it and everything, the moment it trys to impliment the changes it says that it was aborted. Any ideas?
Also, I have the Netflix patch. Not sure if that will cause problems too

You're right - the CWM updates I listed are for stock ROMs only.
You may have to 1)un-root and go back to Asus standard HC3.1,
2) update to 3.2-9 with the Asus OTA updates, and 3) re-root.
I think your data would be safe during that process, but I'm not sure.

how do I safely un-root?

I used your method to attempt to put 3.2 on after updating 8445 to84411 but i got stuck in a boot loop and had to flash Prime 1.5 to get it back on.
any suggestions?

[Q] 3.2.1 update keeps failing

I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer. I have tried several times to update my TF to 3.2.1 but the update keeps failing.
I get a system update notification. The tablet shuts down. The little green android with the gears on his stomach appears with a progress bar under it. The progress bar gets about 1/3 of the way then an exclamation mark appears in a yellow triangle. The a few minutes later the tablet restarts and it says that the update failed.
I am currently on build number HTJ85B.WW_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816. My TF is unrooted.
Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone have any suggestions besides doing a factory reset then trying the update again? Thanks in advance for any help.

Was it rooted before?
Rooting itself doesn't break updates it's what you do whilst rooted that can, so unrooting isn't necessary. I'm having this issue again as I removed some Asus apps with Titanium Backup which I now can't get back (I did them when there was a bug in TB which didn't backup apps properly). The OTA update script checks the integrity of a bunch of apps and files, which if it fails will abort the update in the way you are seeing. Very annoying.

Yeah it was rooted. I just realized that immediately after I rooted it, I had made a CWM backup. I'm going to try to restore the backup and see if the update goes through. (fingers crossed)

Nope, stock 3.2. The only thing that I flashed was a custom kernel.
The update still didn't work with my backup. Luckily the WW 3.2.1 update was posted in the development section, so I just re-rooted and flashed the update. Worked like a charm.

yeah, I think that your kernel will cause the update to fail since it updates some of the kernel modules.

Where did you find the ww 3.2.1? Because have the same problem and haven't found the rom. Wrong serach terms, for sure.

Now I use Revolver!

I flashed revolver, too. Works like a charm.

It's only a 3.2 to 3.2.1 update though, it's not a full ROM, so you have to already have 3.2 on your TF. Hope this helps!

my TF101 was totally non rooted .
is there a download for this 3.2.1 update? so i can prehaps update my TF mannually ....

I too have a problem with the update on my rotted tf.I got an unofficial update apk here but I still get an error message when trying to flash in CWM.I heard that this could be due to a modified system file,but I don`t remember having done such a thing thought...

[Q] OTA update Fails to update 2.3.6 firmware

A few months ago, I loaded 2.3.6 firmware on phone. It is stock gingerbread with root from oden file all_in_one_odin_ep4d. Last week I received an OTA update. The update fails to load and leaves me at the screen with the white triangle with yellow exclamation point. I pulled the battery and rebooted. Today, the update came back. Still no go. I think the update is incompatible with the software on the phone.
Can someone tell me:
1. What is in the update? Is it going to remove root and allow Verizon to see that I 3rd party tether? Are they suddenly going to slap a tether package on my bill? Is it even worth installing?
2. If it’s not worth installing, can I tell my phone that I don’t want it by making it think that the update is already installed?
3. If the update is worth installing, should I wait for an oden install that contains the update or do I do something to the phone to allow it to receive the OTA update? If I do opt for the OTA what must I do to allow it to load?
Being somewhat novice when it comes to loading software on phones, is there a good FAQ out there that lists all the different loads, with what they contain and explanations of those components. Right now, voodoo, Peanut butter and jelly… buzzwords.

All in one package that you installed came with custom kernel. You need to flash a FP1 debloated/bloated/rooted rom and the FP1 kernel. Since you have the custom rom+kernel you can not use OTA update. Some people (like me) prefer to do it clean by go back to stock EP4d rom, then do the full update to FP1, then flash what ever custom rom out there, like Eclipse or debloated etc...More on how to do it here:

Sooner or later you should be on the latest version any way specially for support from XDA.

2. Once I install the stock ROM and get the update, I could reinstall the same custom ROM I have now.
3. Returning my phone to stock will remove root access so I can get the update
How do I get back to stock everything, update the phone and then add only root access. I don’t know enough about stock ROMs to know why I’d want or need one.

1. Yes, you need EP4D stock rom to get OTA update.
2. Yes, once you on stock FP1, you can use flash eclipse 2.0 (which build from FP1 rom). Once done you will have FP1 eclipse with FP1 stock kernel.
3. If you have pure stock EP4D and rooted, you can take the OTA, but yours is not.
You have 2 Options to upgrade:
1. Flash back to pure stock EP4D, OTA upgrade to FP1 then flash pre-rooted FP1 eclipse 2.0 rom. Then flash cwm.
2. Flash FP1 pre-rooted eclipse 2.0 rom, flash cwm, flash FP1 kernel, flash FP1 radio.

I’m going to give #1 a try since I found the stock EP4D load on the page you recommended. I will then be able to get the OTA update and have a stock phone with FP1.
I will then follow #5 on that page to root my pure stock FP1 and make CWM stick after reboot. Do you know if there is a free program that will let me change the file permissions of “install-recovery.sh” like root explorer?

root browser lite or ES file explorer. Both you can get from the Market (google play).

Thanks for the help. I got the phone updated successfully. I ended up having to load eclipse ROM on the phone after the OTA update as the other method with superuser update and superuser fixer failed to deliver root access.
couple of questions:
1. I can no longer set multi-screen wallpaper. How do I restore this functionality?
2. I can't answer my phone using the puzzle pieces. what am I missing?

I'm currently on 4.0.4 (Canadian version) N8010 and I want to update to 4.1.2 (canadian? not sure if it really makes a difference). I get the notification for the update, but when I select it, it fails, and it also fails with Kies.
When I first got the note I opted for the exynos exploit to root my tablet. I was under the impression that if I disabled root from the app my status would revert back to "non-custom". I've uninstalled exynosabuse and busybox (i think supersu uninstalled with the root disabled) and I've restarted multiple times and waited a few hours. No change. I think I'll try to re-enable root and restore some apps that I froze with titanium backup to see if it reverts back.
The other option I guess would be to get the Canadian rom and flash via Oden. although I think that would wipe by note, which i would like to avoid. I found some links to the canadian rom, but they're down.

I still have the stock rom, I haven't installed anything custom, just use the exploit for the root access.

Without a stock 4.1.2 firmware for your device it looks like you are going to have to do a factory reset to use Kies.
I think your options are limited..........
Have you considered using a firmware from another country?
You know there is a backup program called Helium that does not need root, you may want to consider using it to backup all of your data and then do a factory reset.

[ROM] Tab 3 7.0 SM-T210/R Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Update

This is the stock US KitKat ROM for The Galaxy Tab 3 7" Tablet. Finally found it after a bunch of hassle online, and figured I'd post it here to make things easier for everyone.
When I Odin'd this ROM, it actually upgraded my tablet, and left all my items installed (not guaranteeing this will work the same for everyone else).
Afterwards, I just Odin'd TWRP to reroot using Chainfire's SuperSU (no other Superuser would work) and called it good.
Caution: if you are using a custom ROM, this may not work without reflashing stock 4.1.2 since the 4.4.2 ROM appears to be an update, rather than a full ROM.
Rooted devices and custom kernels that are otherwise stock should be fine.
The cache, and if possible dalvik-cache should be cleared before flashing. Some of those files can sometimes interfere with upgrades.
It might be necessary to pinpoint apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
If that fails, it might be necessary to factory reset the device.

I've seen both devices referenced together quite regularly, implying that they use the same ROM.

There are custom ROMs that have been patched for use on both devices, which is where my confusion came from, but this is an official ROM.

I am not responsible for any failed attempts at flashing to either device.

First, thanks for this. I have the T210R. I tried using this and had the same result, it updated the tablet instead of loading a completely new version. I did however run into a problem...the tablet had many for closes and reboots to a point it was unusable and so I reverted back to my backup. Did you see this? Maybe I had a bad download?

I did not have this problem, but I didn't have much on my Tab either. (Some apps don't play well with KitKat upgrades.)
Torrents have multiple segmented hashchecks to make sure you get an uncorrupted download, but it might still be possible. I'm reasonably sure my file is OK since I've used it (can't speak for the non R file though).
Did you clear your cache, and if possible your dalvik cache? I've read that some of those files interfere with upgrades.
If you can pinpoint the apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
Other option would be to try a factory reset and see if that fixes it. (I understand not wanting to do that though.)
One more thing, if your ROM isn't stock, or stock rooted (custom kernel should be ok too), you may have to flash 4.2 before the 4.4 ROM will work on the device.

i have not ever rooted a sm-t210 but it was rooted when i bought it second hand!
i have linux installed on my p.c. and was wondering if there is a way to upgrade to and official KITKAT!
as stated i am having problems because my SM-T210 wifi only! and want to update to kitkat official release!
but was hoping also that there is a way/method to root via LINX and not via windows!!
if that is not possible how do i go about it on windows!! as i can use a friends WINDOWS-P.C. if i must!
ah also my SM-T210 does not have the options to change the function of the USB-function,,,
i.e.
it used to have an option to,, use as a mass storege, media transfer or use with samsung keis,,, or some thing of the sort
but this option has dissapeared! may have been my fault!!!! as i uninstalled some system apps,
now it crashes and reboots whenever i try to turn of USB-DEBUGGING options in DEVELOPER-OPTIONS !!!!

I do know that Heimdall is a multiplatform flashing tool substitute for Odin. Check out

Just to triple check, by the above quote you mean that if my tablet is currently rooted, I should still be fine to flash this update correct? [obviously it would become non-rooted once flashed and I'd have to re-root it as you mentioned you rooted after installing]
Also, how much space does this take up?

That is correct. I was rooted running the Werewolf custom OC kernel. I still had my tablet upgrade without wiping, and one other user has reported back saying the same. But I can not promise upgrade as opposed to overwrite.
The flash file once extracted, is about 1.4 GB, I don't know sizes beyond that. It does not repartition the tablet however.

Well this is awesome, system won't mount and I don't have a backup. Samsung website does NOT have the stock firmware, and attempting to get it for another country just to get this to load so I can flash a ROM leaves me with having to download at 15kbs. I am in the process of selling this to someone for their kid... And there are ZERO seeders for these files. Lovely.

For some (unknown) reason, Odin3 nor JOdin3 doesn't seem to work for flashing my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 device. For that reason I tried Heimdall-Frontend, but to make that work you need to extract the content of a stock ROM first.
Anyways, it still didn't lead to get my device into factory reset yet.
But that's another story on which I still have not yet found the answers needed to get the device successfully back into factory reset.
My guess is that the 'system.img' file, of Android 4.4.2, successfully has been loaded from Heimdall-Frontend, yet by going into reboot right away after Heimdall-Frontend releases the connected device, the download may be deleted.
I read that the cause of that may lie in the fact that Android 4.4.2 is only an update and no full ROM.
