Hi
I have the very nice Samsung book case and was thinking of getting a dock. Anyone know if the table will fit in a dock (Samsung or otherwise) without needing to be removed from the case ?
Thanks
What features are you looking for in your dock? If you just looking for something that'll hold your tablet at a good viewing angle while charging, you could 3D print (or commission someone to 3D print) this dock.
It works well, with and without my case. (There's two versions of the dock: standard and jumbo. I've tried both. I personally prefer the standard.)

Hot much does it cost to get this printed? And does it hold the charging cable in place where all you have to do is slip the tablet into the dock and it connects?
nice answer! thanks, that would probably work. I'll look in how much it would cost to print.
This image - image:103984- suggests that the charger gets held in place by the 2 halves. I doubt its as a snug as a purpose built dock but it looks good enough

Printing cost would depend on who you commissioned to print the dock. If you found someone local and could avoid shipping costs, it could be done very, very cheaply. (The dock I'm using is actually an early prototype from the same guy that wrote the Thingiverse post I linked to, so I lucked out and got mine for free.)
It holds the charging cable firmly in place; requires very little effort to dock, outside of making sure the tablet's centered as you lower it. It seems to be a little sturdier when docked in its case, but its still perfectly acceptable sans-case too.
I leave a dedicated OEM charging cable in my dock. In the prototype I got, the cable had to be kinked at an extreme angle to keep the connection point firmly in place. It didn't damage my cable, but making a habit of kinking the cable every time you used the dock probably would...
Of course, he may have found another way around this before he posted on Thingiverse. I'll try to find out for sure...
I cant wait until 3d printers are cheap(er). In the mean time I found this case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006OBKDFQ/ref=oh_o03_s00_i03_details which allows me to dock without taking the tab out. Using the same method for using it in the stand of the case, you unhinge the bottom part of the case and dock it. Works pretty well.
It does not fit into my charging, 3.5mm out dock.
The dock has no room for ANY case. Maybe a ZIS.

Hi there,
I am looking for a charging dock that accommodates my DHD without me having to remove the protection case (Case-Mate Barely There).
Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I just need it to charge the device, no further USB connectivity features needed.
I guess the usual Desire HD docks are all fitting so tightly that a case won't work with them, right?
Anyway, if you have any tips for me, I'd appreciate it
I'm looking for the same thing.
I'm signing up under this one as well

I've just received my Spiderpodium which does the job and is futureproof.
Its basically a rubbery type material which you can bend into various configurations and I am using it in the car right now and it works wonderfully.
I have bought a black one, it may not look as nice as custom made docking stations however is very practical.
Here's a link where it is demonstrated on an IPOD Touch however, I am using it with my DHD with a Otter commuter case attached and it works brilliantly.

Spiderpodium looks nice, wish there was something like that, but with the option of those sticky, sucky things that most gps use to attach to windows etc

My main reason for going for the Spiderpodium was because I did not want to get the windscreen "sucky" thingy. With this it leaves no marks, just sticks into the grills of my Mk5 golf which has the grills at a decent level to use sat-nav at a good viewing angle. It also holds the Wifes i-phone 4. If there is a need to, I can easily remove it from the car and use as a dock too.
Nice but I need one that I just slide in and it will charge my phone without need of connecting usb cable manually

Yup, same here - I just want to plug my phone straight in without fiddling with cables..
I have one of those cheap Chinese-made docks, I used a dremel tool to make the recess a bit bigger. It's not pretty but it fits in nicely.
I would be amazed if someone made a dock for a case. It's hard enough to get a dock for a phone, which sells millions, I would be really surprised if someone made a dock for a case which sells only in it's thousands.
Take a look at the Clingo -

It does require you to plug in the USB charger, but as I say, I think you'll have to live with that.

Hmm that doesnt look too bad , neither does the spiderpodium though..
So, has anyone found an active dock that will work with a protective case on the phone.
I really miss having a cradle for my phone at work, but cant be doing with taking it in and out of it's gel case all day long...

Good news! I was finally able to snatch a 32GB TF yesterday from NewEgg! YAY!
My dock is already here. Now I'm considering the Asus Sleeve for when I have it not docked. However, I can only see myself actually using it if I don't have to keep taking it off every time I want to dock the tablet. Is there anyway to have it stay on while docked? Maybe we can cut the flap that folds? What do you think? Any other option?
There's a member on here who did just that, cut out the bottom to make it fit on his dock while sleeved.
IMO, it looks horrible, the cut looked sloppy and it bulges out when docked. You would have to cut away a significant amount of the sleeve if you want it to let it dock with no interference.

I'd wait for a third party to make a custom sleeve.
Making the changes yourself means there's a good chance that you'll end up wasting $40.
i've done it w/o cutting, but a good push is needed to make it connect. plus the flap that tucks in covers some keys. i'm not really willing to cut it either.

That was me and for the OPs use here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074265
Yes it is ugly. If I was entering it in a beauty showcase it would get disqualified. The "ugly cut" is not visible when using the thing so I dont care too much. You could make it look better.
That said, if you want to wait 2-3 months, I am willing to bet someone makes a sleeve that can be used with the dock and not look fugly. I think it is is easily possibly after messing around with mine.
If you wan functionality now with a little bit of ugliness, you can modify the current sleeve. However, the current sleeve is well over priced IMO.
Even with the mod I've steered away from getting the sleeve. It looks completely flimsy and loose. Definitely far from the one that Apple had for the iPad 1. Not worth the $40 investment period.
Hopefully, some third-party company will make something usable.
Just ordered a Rearth case from here: http://goo.gl/V5ccu
Curious if anyone has this case (or a similar type that does not obstruct the top/bottom) and uses a microUSB desktop charger?
I know, I know, this phone supports wireless charging.... but some of us want to 1) charge as fast as possible and 2) have our phone upright on our desk while charging.
I heard that the N4 fits in the GSIII desktop chargers but I doubt they do with any type of case on. Anyone have recommendations for a "universal" or otherwise desktop charger that will work with this phone/case combo?
I have found one that looks to be promising, except it's Philips brand and is an alarm clock... but still, people are saying it's fairly universal and at least one of the reviews says they are using it with an otterbox case on their phone:
http://goo.gl/4g4jd
Any thoughts or recommendations for other ones that might work?

I'm afraid so... Although I'm pretty sure that you can find a universal Micro USB dock. I'd check Amazon or eBay.
I'm in the same boat; I'd love to get a desktop charger, but can't find anything. I picked up a cheap ($5) S3 dock on eBay, but the plug doesn't extend far enough to connect to my N4 and the base isn't wide enough to fully support it either. I came across this one, but it is fairly pricey and I'm not sure I want to be the first person to try it out...

I am in the same boat , I would like to get a couple of docks one for work desk and one for home desk, I have tried to buy that one but for some reason they don't ship from Australia to me in Canada, I have found it here in ebay http://www.ebay.ca/itm/KiDiGi-Unive...ries&hash=item337e43a54e&_uhb=1#ht_5273wt_775
I am concerned with stress on the USB port, other than that I would love to buy it, does anyone know if it can cause stress on the USB or or should it be OK ?
I'm tempted by the KiDiGi one. I have a similar one for my S2 and it's been working fine for me so far...unfortunately its for the S2 only and so won't work with anything else.
I have this model for my iphone and it worked very well with a case.
http://www.amazon.com/Konnet-KN-832...UTF8&qid=1355257145&sr=8-1&keywords=icrado+s3
The Galaxy S3, et. al. version should have the jack facing the correct way and work perfectly for the Nexus 4.
As an aside, I did have to modify my dock for my iphone with case, because the little jack holder they have on this dock is enveloped in a larger plastic covering to keep it attached to the dock. I simply sawed off the top portion that keeps it in place, and superglued.. it has been solid ever since, and the connector reaches all the way into my case to connect just fine.
i'm probably going to get one of these for my

From my OP:
"I know, I know, this phone supports wireless charging.... but some of us want to 1) charge as fast as possible and 2) have our phone upright on our desk while charging."
That's why. It's not just about charging... I like to use my phone as a clock/info station during the day, and having it upright allows me to do that. Now if they'd just make a vertical magnetic charging pad.....
I use the phillips fidelio as351 and it fits my phone with it's multitude of cases and even my N7. also makes for a portable speaker systsem as well as it runs on battery or AC adapter. Lot of places have this dock on clearance.
Seidio also makes one that works with cases.
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-desktop-charging-cradle-p/bd2-crdssx1.htm
The Seidio one looks cool...but the lack of a backing looks like its going to put a lot of pressure on the USB connector.
I was looking at wireless mats, but then if I decide to change my handset again next year I'll be back in the same position I am now.
The dock is being sold on Ebay by some people, so if you can't wait you can buy it there, it is more expensive though.
The cheapest one is about 38$ for the white one.
Just by the way (more for other peoples knowledge, as I'm sure YOU'RE probably aware), there are 3rd party docks available on eBay for ~$10USD.
Not sure on the build quality, but I ordered one last week. Will see how it goes

I read on another forum that there were people who had problem with the alternative dock, for some the phone didn't even charge.
Yeah I got the cheap dock too and it is inconsistent at best sometimes it charges and sometimes it is only being able to hold the current charge. Phone always show it is being charged but if it really charges the battery back up then just holding the current level is never an guarantee at all. I went now with the original one and have no issues at all.

It's Expensive.
And it doesn't charge or data connecting by usb on pc.
Box inside only DK26 dock .No cable , no charger.

I'll second this. Got bought one for my birthday. It's the cheapest looking bit of "Official" kit I've ever seen.
The plastic is dull, and the whole thing is so so lightweight, you have to hold down the dock with one hand and pull the phone out with the other.
It does hold the phone nice and tight, and charges well, so I suppose it is doing the job it was designed for, but it is a really poor effort from a company like Sony, who are supposed to be into quality design. It's not a patch on the Asus dock for the Nexus 7. That thing weighs a ton!
I got the alternative goosewhite dock and can definitely vouch for it. Works perfectly, plus from what I've heard, it's not such a tight fit as the official sony dock, which could be beneficial to those with the Spigen glas.t protector, which I've heard chips in the official dock due to the tight fit.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/GooseWhite-...places/dp/B00CAHQNOI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
also, if for whatever reason you don't have access to mains, it can be hooked up via USB to a laptop
I just got the current Samsung Vehicle dock and have to say, it's TERRIBLE. There are large side arms that grab the phone and they GET IN THE WAY. There doesn't appear to be any way to reduce this, short of hacking up the plastic and rubber.
It's a shockingly dumb design. It's not like the arms need to be that deep. Because none of the phones intended for this dock would ever need that much grab area. Because if you put a thick case on the phone, well, you'd have no need for the wireless charging aspect of this dock. Which is the only reason you'd shell out the money for it, as it's quite a lot more expensive than a non-charging one. That and the click-to-release button is kind of awkward to use. It's tucked around the back and, depending on how you mount the dock, kind of hard to get to if the usb power cable is in the way.
I should point out that with a Spigen Neo Hybrid case the S6 still charges in this dock. But the side ears still get in the way.
So, any suggestions on other wireless Qi charging vehicle docks that are known to work reliably with the S6? While still allowing some reasonable use of the phone while docked?

Airdock 2.0...
Tylt makes a dock with wireless charging built in. If I was gunna get a car dock that's what I would look in to
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
The reviews for the Tylt are all over the map, and lots focus on crappy manufacturing issues.
The Airdock isn't for me. I prefer having some physical borders of some sort to avoid having to fiddle with positioning the phone for charging.
I've had Droid slider phones for years and loved their molded cradles (that and the keyboard). I've used a number of Qi charging pads with some tablets and really dislike not having a reliable plunk-it-down way to get them situated. Curiously, though, a Bobj case for a Nexus 7 straddles a Docooler pad perfectly. Trouble is it leaves the tablet looking like a drink coaster...
The Samsung dock fit right onto the same ball as the one in the back of my D4 mount.
I've also kept all my vehicle mounts on a Pro-Clip bracket. I'm using this one currently. I've had different mounting brackets over the years, and swapped around different mounting components. I use a Dual-T screwed onto the bracket and then a Dual-T Ball (from Arkon, iirc). This lets me pop just about all of it off the bracket to reduce theft risks. These have been MUCH more stable and useful (for me) than any sort of suction cup, vent or other mounting gizmos.
I've ordered an iOttie, we'll see how that goes.
Yep, as I expected, the iOttie is an improvement, at least in usability of the phone while docked. The side clamps on the iOttie sit higher on the side of the S6 than the Samsung dock. The right side clamp is mighty close to the side power button, but JUST barely below it. I may, at some point, nibble a small bit of the rubber out of that part of the clamp to avoid the button entirely. But for now it's not a problem. The S6 charges just fine in the dock. The lower clamp drops down enough to allow the S6 to detect the coil. And it also slides left/right to allow plugging an audio cable into the headphone jack on the bottom of the S6, should you so desire.
I'll report back more in another thread for it. But that won't happen until I get my replacement Pro-Clip mount for my Jeep. I managed to crack the tab that it uses to fit into the seam of the dashboard. Either it was me being ham-fisted, UV damage to the plastic or some combination of the two.
Regardless, FedEx tracking claims it'll be here on Tuesday. I won't hold my breath as FedEx has routinely missed their delivery targets. UPS, on the other hand, seems to be glad to get stuff in and out of their system as fast as possible, regardless of the delivery speed selected. FedEx seems to think that unless you've 'bent over' for their overnight fee then they'll route it to Hell and back instead of anything that might be quicker.
How is the charging speed in the Qi docks compared to the power usage of the phone sith gps nav running? I remember most of the phones I had were slowly discharging when using 1 amp charger in the car, I had to switch to 2 amps to make sure they sustain the power drain and charge the phone while navigating. Qi has like 750 mA charging current if I recall, isn't that too little?
Been using the air dock for couple of months now. Overall have really enjoyed it, works well when you position it properly.
It takes a bit do getting used to but once you have the right surface and positioning technique it works a charm!
+1 for air dock.
