Hoping someone (who took the new UCLA3 ATT update via OTA or installed via CWM zip flash) could do a very quick/simple check using CPU Spy, Quick System Info (both free in Market), or equivalent. In CPU Sky, just scroll to bottom and post what your "Kernel Info" shows... In Quick System Info, it's "View Properties"... "System"... "Kernel: Linux.....". I'm trying to figure out why my Kernel Info is still tied to UCKJ2. I just did a full wipe, flashed UCLA3, and my Kernel shows:
"Linux version 2.6.35.11-I727UCKJ2-CL626051 ([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 15 14:02:31 KST 2011".
When I bought phone back in early Nov (2.3.5, baseband= I727UCKJ2) it showed:
"Linux version 2.6.35.11-I727UCKJ2-CL626051 ([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 15 14:02:31 KST 2011".
When I took the ATT OTA 2.3.6 update in mid Nov (2.3.6, baseband= I727UCKK1) it showed:
"Linux version 2.6.35.11-I727UCKK1-CL626051 ([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Fre Nov 11 23:00:20 KST 2011".
And when I just wiped and did the UCLA3 CWM zip flash is shows:
"Linux version 2.6.35.11-I727UCKJ2-CL626051 ([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 15 14:02:31 KST 2011".
So wondering if you take update via OTA, it changes the kernel info to match the build... but it appears when you flash packages, the kernel still references "UCKJ2". Hoping to see posts from both those who took the ATT UCLA3 update by OTA... and those who flashed the awesome cdshepherd zip packages (radio and ROM). My "About Phone" as follows:
ANDROID VERSION: 2.3.6
BASEBAND VERSION: I727UCLA3
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.35.11
BUILD NUMBER: GINGERBREAD.UCLA3
Thx.
Have to bump this, hope it didn't get answered elsewhere (I looked). I have the same kernel info showing after doing the cwm .zip that is posted.
Does anyone know for sure that the kernel is a new build in the OTA?
Also, would the Fruitcake-built rom have it included?
I posted this in the DEV section as well, but it seems to answer your question from this thread so I will post it here as well:
I flashed the modem zip only and everything seems to work fine. I think it has a little bit better connectivity than the previous radio but not by much. LTE works fine. I have not flashed the other zip (ROM update) yet. I'm going to wait until the bugs are worked out of the install before I consider it. I was on 2.3.6 to begin with (from the first update months ago).
My phone now shows:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I727UCLA3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.11
Build number: Gingerbread.UCKK1
Again, this is just with the modem zip flashed and not the ROM update itself.
BUMP.... attaching screenshots of what I'm talking about. As you ca see after UCLA3 flash, my Kernel Info still references "UCKJ2". Can anyone check theirs and post back?

The fruitcake flash did not include the UCLA3 kernel, that is why you're still seeing the old info.
The new CWM flash has the new kernel in it, but the script is has issues that are being worked out right now. The current script doesn't actually write anything to the phone due to these issues.
Thanks for reply. Anyway for the UCLA3 kernel boot.img to be packaged in a separate flashable zip? Then those who already have the rom and modem installed can just flash the UCLA3 kernel on top

Currently on successful ota stock rom.
Thanks Bacheezy... this confirms I'm missing the updated boot.img (kernel).

I don't suppose you could slip BLN support into the kernel. I had to re-flash to an old one to get it back.

i do not, I haven't updated just using CM7 now. I was thinking of updating with the LG updater to get the new baseband but once i saw this I was hoping it included the new baseband. Everyone that updated using the LG updater is saying that the baseband updated to July 15.

Heimdall firmware packages for stock GT-P6200 firmwares
Heimdall 1.3 included support for "Heimdall Firmware Packages," an XML-driven way to define, create, and distribute firmwares. This is a powerful tool for ROM developers, but I haven't seen it being used yet. In order to encourage and support the use of these new firmware packages, I've packaged up a few stock Samsung firmwares for use with Heimdall.
For those that don't know, Heimdall is an open-source, cross-platform tool written by Benjamin Dobell which can flash complete ROMs, kernels, modems, etc to Samsung Galaxy-series devices. It's preferable over Odin as its source code is open and it is therefore undergoing public development, and we can review the code. In comparison, Odin is a closed-source, Windows-only, internal Samsung utility, and what we know very little about it.
Downloads
These are stock ROMs, just as you'd find on Samfirmware or wherever else. I have not modified them other than unpacking and repacking for flashing with Heimdall (meaning they are odexed). If the upstream firmware includes bootloaders, I've included them*. I'll do my best to indicate additional information next to each ROM.

Make sure you've installed Heimdall version 1.3 or higher (1.3.2 seems to have a bug, though, steer clear of that one for now). Do not unzip the firmware package, we open it up directly in the heimdall frontend graphical user interface! This procedure will wipe your device and you will lose all your installed applications. Make a backup of your applications/data with Titanium Backup or whatever before trying!
Step 1: Open Heimdall's frontend (heimdall-frontend on Linux)
Step 2: Load the downloaded tar.gz into Heimdall

Step 3: Press "Load / Customize"
Step 4: Boot your tablet into "Download mode" (Volume Down + Power), and connect it to your computer
Step 5 (optional): Customize the installation before flashing by removing or adding different files (such as pre-rooted kernels or different modems)
Step 6: Press "Start"
Your tablet will begin to flash and then reboot.

That's for you to decide.
Notice, all I've done is take GT-P6200 ROMs and package them as .tar.gz Heimdall packages and uploaded them. That's literally all I've done. I'm not rolling custom ROMs here! These are 6200 stock ROMs. If they're compatible with the 6210 is nothing I've done on purpose.
Firmware for the 6210 is different to the 6200.... this is why I asked.
This is great! I've used Heimdall to restore my wife's sidekick 4g a few times with ease.
Could you give us a little info about what you do to the stock "ROMs" to load them up into this tool?

Actually, Heimdall is ridiculously easy. You should really just give it a try. The stock firmwares unzip into a series of files which correspond to the partitions on the device. See here, the contents of the DXKL3 firmware:
Code:
[[email protected]: ~/Downloads/DXKL3]$ ls
boot.bin cache.img factoryfs.img hidden.img modem.bin param.lfs recovery.img Sbl.bin zImage
In Heimdall you just add new files and select which partition they need to be flashed to. It's really simple. Heimdall is way better then Odin. Serious.

This increases the counter, just like Odin. The motivation for using Heimdall is only that it is open source, and safer than Odin. For now I don't know of any reason that the custom counter could be a problem. When Ice Cream Sandwich comes out we'll just use TriangleAway to reset the counter anyways.
Thanks aorth.

well.... We have just got great news - KERNEL source was released for our GB base ROM. So now either JParker or another talented developer might be able to create fixes/ a new kernel for our CM7, thus making a AOSP GB 2.3.4 ROM available. i don't think you'll see anyone create a FroYo build ever again, so this CM7 kernel fix will be your best shot at a AOSP GB ROM unless someone else was waiting on this kernel source to create a pure AOSP base..
Bottom Line: wait a few days/weeks for our newly published kernel to be taken advantage of by our talented developers.
BTW: We're a community here on XDA so you need not pay anyone money as others will also tell you, you just need to ask us if you need help with something in particular on your phone and we can help you through any problems you have - even rooting - just by asking.
^^^ +1
There are donate buttons for the devs that helped you get what you wanted, but there is no bounty or "I'll pay you if you do this" here. Services are not paid anywhere on XDA. Only appreciated in various ways

The guides here are pretty direct. I don't see how you can mess it up. They even have step by step videos on how to root and S-Off the 4G Slide; just search for it.
And if you're scared of damaging your phone, you shouldn't be rooting. As always, there is a risk with modifications, and it comes with the territory.
But to be very honest, I have never bricked any of the 5 different android phones I've rooted over the past 2 years. It's very hard to mess something up if you follow along step by step. There's very little "grey area" in the world of technology. It either works, or it doesn't

I flashed this Rom on an Ntelos SM900R7 (Same model) and it booted and functions fine. The only Rom I've found which flashed and immediately provided wireless, data, and all features upon boot.I did notice it did not install any kernel, I was running the Ktoonsez SGS5 10/17/14 kernel which remained upon completing flash.
The only small hiccup I experienced was upon completion I could not boot into recovery, I re-nstalled recovery and all is fine.
Great work SPJESTER.....keep um coming.

The rom installed and maintained root, I believe the ability to upgrade this Rom has been removed by the removal of OTA updates. It's my understanding if your running a rooted rom and accept an upgrade you loose the root. Good luck.

Yea, you will want to install TWRP recovery to flash.. However, you also have a few options for much newer ROMs. There is a CM available for both OS 6.0.1 (CM13) and OS7.1.1 (CM14, AKA LinageOS).
Older CM13

sorry i have bad english
Thanks, may be handy.
Maybe it will be a dumb question, but - when Nougat (official) arrives, what do I need to do, if I am on custom ROM? I think that a lot of people will struggle with this problem, so lets make it clear.
Do I need to only download the matching firmware (RETEU in my case) of 6.0.1, use the instruction you linked (flash via fastboot) and simply get OTA, while on stock? Can I have unlocked bootloader/custom recovery? It won't cause any problem? After updating, will I can root my phone again and flash custom kernel, while on stock?
Or will there be other, better method, like flashing official Nougat image via fastboot?

In the case of unlocked bootloader there is no problem at all.but you need stock recovery and not custom recovery like twrp to do OTA update.

Thanks, is it necessary that device need to be rooted before flashing ? and if the stock firmware match till 107_52 and only last digit mismatch like, in my version i have MPDS24_107-52-11 and i got firmware available MPDS24_107-52-5. There is no harm in flashing with that ?
In that update bootloader is bugged..fon getting shutdown at 20 percent after updating it. Even on custom rom.
From the many many stock firmwares is there any way to identify which one I have to flash to my phone?
I have XT1563 Dual SIM, there are lots of different firmwares for 1563.
