NOTES
Need help with BLN? Check here: BLN Support
This kernel is still in beta! Please help us test for stability. Logs are always welcome
This is still Bryan's kernel, the only changes I have made were to the initramfs and a few changes here and there to the kernel itself.
Bryan is developing again! This thread will continue to be open to discuss the new releases here unless he decides to open his other kernel thread for XDA.
FEATURES
In addition to the changes bhundven has made:
SuperSU instead of Superuser (adds root support using the kernel alone, regardless of which ROM you install this on)
BLN support added (thanks to neldar and our newest Team Acid member m4xm4n) MARKET LINK
Includes a Team Acid boot splash and recovery image (courtesy of theexel and Tablador)
Cleaned up voodoo extensions directory to remove zipalign for TW launcher
Forcing an ext4 conversion by default regardless of lagfix option
Enabled cifs, fuse and tun kernel modules
NOTES
Want to change your boot splash image? Here's a git repo that helps you do just that:
https://github.com/morfic/Samsung-logo
(Thanks to tablador who linked me to this!)
INSTRUCTIONS
Download the kernel zip file
Flash it using CWM
Wipe the Dalvik Cache before you reboot! (CWM > Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache)
If you are already rooted, you can also use the SGS Kernel flasher
DOWNLOADS

CHANGELOG
Apr 11, 2012
v0.2.0
Enable SVNET_WHITELIST to fix wakelock reboot problems
Bump version to '-sms-kj6-v0.2.0-bml'
Integrated lights.s5pc110.so into the initramfs to add BLN support
-- The kernel itself now copies the file to the rom instead of doing it via CWM
The CWM zip should no longer cause your phone to reboot after the kernel flashes
April 8, 2012
v0.1.1-rc3
Now using SuperSU instead of Superuser
BLN support added (thanks to neldar and our newest Team Acid member m4xm4n)
You need the BLN Control app from the market to use BackLightNotifications! MARKET LINK
February 24, 2012
v0.1.1-rc2
Now using Team Acid's changes to voodoo initramfs
Removed a lot of unneeded checks and their included files since we're only dealing with the sgs4g
Added battery capacity check before voodoo lagfix
Modified the ext4 conversion process to use the bonsai defaults
Forcing an ext4 conversion by default regardless of lagfix option
Removed check for froyo anti_boot_glitch since this is a GB kernel
Enabled cifs, fuse and tun kernel modules

FB,
I have had to revert both my wifes and my phone to version 2d because of random reboots and locking up with the last 2 of Bhund's releases. Been back on 2d for 6 days now, not a single reboot or lock-up. Do you believe any of the changes you have made will prevent this happening? Or should I stay on 2d for now?
As always, thanks for the contribution.
At the moment it's essentially the same as Bryan's kernel. I've only changed some of the voodoo files right now but you can test if you wish

FB you are the man!
Awesome work.
I've looked at Bryan's commits between 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 and actually there was not much. The changes were only to the config file to disable DMA, DIDLE, and some serial interface that got there from aries config. Bigger changes that brought in some kernel code happened before 0.1.0. But the 0.1.0 does not make my phone reboot, and the latest changes don't seem to be significant enough to cause reboots.
I'm going to try this build and see how it behaves. Maybe it was something silly like Bryan's 0.1.1 build was somehow damaged during compilation/linking/packaging.
Good job FB!

Ya. And I did before.. I'm embarrassed to admit that I forgot the issue that made my stop using the CMW 5 version. I probably should've posted in the stupid questions thread.
Thank you for your reply
Big Thanks FB! And Team Acid!
Just flashed and love your new logo..sorry for the stupid question about full restore. I kinda fell behind a little and even forgot some stuff lol.
Hell yeah Team ACID
Looks like that freenode session had some results. I'll give it a go. Thanks.
Pure awesome.

So did cleaning up voodoo scripts allow faster boots.

I had some random reboots when I first flashed Valhalla Black but not sure if it was from the kernel or the ROM. Either way, it was most likely something I screwed up.
Just flashed this new update on my phone and it seems like everything transitions way faster than it used to. And all my apps seem to load faster. I'm mostly sober so I'm reasonably sure I'm not seeing things
Anyway, I don't talk on here much cuz I only get half of wtf you guys are talking bout. Plus there's too many lazy ingrates. But FB, you and the other actual decent people who spend hours working for free have made owning this phone a blast. Thanks for everything you all do and if there's ever anything I can do that doesn't require hard work of any kind, lemme know.

Not yet. I'm gonna be doing some more work on the scripts tonight since the kernel takes WAY too long to boot. What I noticed from a quick logcat inspection I did before I left home in the morning, it's zipaligning everything every time. I'm thinking it'd be better to only force the zip align once a week so that way you still get speedy apps and you don't have to suffer every time you reboot .

Hmm. Has it been only certain ROMs giving you reboots? I haven't had issues so far but I have my phone in my pocket all day so I haven't noticed if it does reboot.
Modified kernel (Fb) + VB (Raver) + Adrenaline shot VB with scroll cache tweak (dsexton) = Triple acid burn!

I'm starting this thread as I'd like a place to talk about the Fresh Toast kernel as it doesn't look like one has been started yet. If flipz decides to make his own thread at some point then we can delete this one.
The Following is from http://geekfor.me/evo/21/fresh-toast-experimental/
Geek For Me is proud to release:
Fresh Toast Custom Kernel for your Sprint Evo 4g
Experimental, and only available through Fresh Updater.
Fresh Toast was a popular collaboration rom by toastcfh and myself for the CDMA Hero. I am proud to announce that it’s now available for the Evo! Rather than being offered as a separate rom it is now going to be offered as an update/patch for Fresh Evo. If you are running Fresh Rom 0.5.3 or 1.0.0 (testers/donors only right now) then you can get the update by enabling experimental roms in Fresh Updater (more info below). There are 0 changes made to the rom itself other than drivers, all of the changes are in the kernel.
The release notes on this are going to be very brief right now, and so is support. Please report any issues that you guys come across but don’t be too surprised by that due to it’s experimental nature. You all are the testers!
Fresh Toast Features:
* CompCache / ramzswap
o This is actually already included in Fresh Evo, but thanks to the new kernel it is hard coded in there and works a lot better.
* Overclock available up to 1.27ghz, however it doesn’t seem to totally function above about 1.15ghz.
o Only tested with SetCPU. Should also work fine with Overclock Widget. Neither are included.
o If you are reporting OC issues then make sure to say which application you are using. And don’t report it if it’s related to problems when going above 1.1ghz.
* Undervolt — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_voltage_scaling#Undervolting
o This lowers the voltage required by the processor at lower clock speeds, thus reducing heat and battery drain.
* Ext4 support — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4
o If using apps2sd then you can convert your ext partition to ext4. Read the wikipedia article for noted benefits.
o You can use AmonRA to convert from ext3 to ext4 without any data loss, just keep in mind that if you try using another rom that doesn’t support ext4 then it won’t be able to read it. Going from ext4 back to ext3 will require re-partitioning your sdcard.
* Both kernels contain extensive tweaks related to speed, power, VM, etc. More details and information to come on all of those tweaks.
* Brain F**k Scheduler aka BFS (optional) – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_Fuck_Scheduler
o One version of the kernel includes BFS and one doesn’t. BFS will definitely make your phone run faster but it’s done with a possible side effect of stability. Test it out and see if you have any issuers.
o If you are reporting any problems with Fresh Toast then make sure and say if you are using the BFS kernel or not.
o If you aren’t sure what a scheduler is: it’s basically what is responsible for queuing up work for the processor to do. From an engineering standpoint even though we can multitask on our phone, the CPU is technically doing only one thing at a time. A scheduler is what controls which job the CPU is working on and which ones are next. This replaces the stock android one with BFS.
Reporting an issue? Please give us which kernel number you are using (#13 or #20 — you can get this by going to Settings < About Phone < Software Information < Kernel Version) and also which overclock application you are using.
Download:
This can only be downloaded through Fresh Updater, and only if you are on Fresh Evo 0.5.3 or 1.0.0 (testers/donors only for now). Users coming from Fresh Evo 1.0.0 should not have to worry about wiping or doing anything special. If coming from 0.5.3 then a wipe might be required to get it booted, I didn’t test. Fresh Updater also has the kernels included with Fresh Evo so that you can go back to them if you have any issues with Fresh Toast. As always make sure you do a nandroid.
You must enable experimental roms in order to have them show up.
Fresh Updater > Menu > Configuration > Rom Update Settings > Display Experimental Roms — Then check for updates.

I'm currently testing out the fresh toast kernels on the DC 3.2.3 rom, I'll post back about my findings soon.
edit: So far it doesn't appear to be working with the DC rom. It's just hanging on boot. I'll give it a bit longer but its already
been sitting on the intial htc EVO 4g logo for 5 minutes.
edit2: I've been unable to get the DC Rom to boot with either of the fresh toast kernels. even with a data wipe. i'm going to try
again.. if anyone else gets it working please post.

it does not. given the tearing problem that the toast + epson fps fix kernel has, at this point I just want a kernel
that will enable over/underclocking. the fresh toast kernel fills that niche.
Actually we have been testing this Rom since it came out. Check the last pages of posts here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700448&page=254

No not at all man, no worries good to have a thread just for this rom. Flipz is doing some amazing work. I have installed a few roms and fresh has been the most stable for me. With this new kernel Rom for the first time I have seen a huge improvement in battery life. Can't wait to see what version 1 brings

Both work correctly.
If u wanna use my binary in dc or anything else ull have to extract the binary kernel from the boot.img and compile it with the ramdisk from the Rom u are going to flash it to. Also ill need to modify the ramdisk to run compache/ ramzswap scripts and grab the modules from the fresh toast build also. Add all that to ur build and flash the newly compiled boot.img and u should be toasted up
No Problems
No problems here - Flashed using Amon_RA recovery. Running Fresh 0.5.3 ROM.
Quick question - I've been running the Fresh Toast kernal with BFS pretty nicely for about a day now, but I'm still unsure about a few things. How does the undervolting work? Is it automatic if I underclock the CPU, or is it always undervolted? Right now I have SetCPU set to a max of 1152.

note: the gan-eth.ko is for espresso. perhaps we can use that, too.
In froyo source, a same change as this commit has been made. If the updates of kernel can adapt that change, then I don't think this tweak is needed anymore, but I'm not sure that tweak really wouldn't help.
This flashable contains the same kernel & modules as above, additionally comments out the tweak in init.[board].rc file in boot image. If you flash this one more time, the change to init.[board].rc will be reverted, so you can compare.

ladios, would it be possible to make use of koush's AnyKernal like drowningchild is? Or are you modding other aspects of the ROM too?
It was suggested to build a kernal update.zip here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11717285&postcount=21
If it is too much to bite off or you are too close to merging with master don't bother, I'd be more likely to test if it was kernal only.

I didn't study the code deeply. What I've done is to find out which files are new, merge them into the current source, and avoid the previous changes/hacks being reverted.

I didn't mod the rom, and of course I know about AnyKernel. I even forked AnyKernel to AnyBootImage. ( To whom who cares, I'm sorry that it's not well documented.) The problem is that the last few times when I packed a kernel, the wifi module was unaccessible. Haven't sorted out the reason yet, so I rather build the whole thing.
@all: How about battery life? mine's a little bit shorter.
mines about the same
-i could never get the wifi that builded along side to work either
My battery seems to last a little longer with this kernel...although a cannot emulate the same usage from day to day because this is my daily driver and I may get more emails and fewer calls one day then more calls and fewer emails the next...but so far it seems a tad bit more efficient. I would be interested to see what has actually changed...just curious.
Also, WiFi seemed to connect a little bit quicker, and everything else worked as normal (as in not a noticeable difference).
Battery doing good here also. Some web, plume, emails, tapatalk, few calls, screen on auto within cm7 display, auto allow decrease.

An extremely fast and stable work of art! There are going to be many more additions added to the stack, specially with the input from my fellow flashaholics.
This build is based upon the UCKl2 leak with some library files from the UCJ4 builds to achieve working video and hardware acceleration. I want everyone to give a big thank you to Dman for coming up with this amazing hack!
It does include Voodoo Lagfix, Recovery and Sound as of 12/27/2011
IT does not have OC,does have UV
IT does have working video
IT is insanly fast & stable
IT does include the Thunderbolt Tweaks
No more working HDMI ( this is temporary working hard on a fix)
This is Build Number #4. Please read the change log in the post below to get a better understanding of whats going on.
Read the post below for change logs.
I really give Samsung credit for this build, they successfully removed Carrier IQ and made things so smooth like butter!

Added Entropy's Daily Driver back to the mix into I can properly get my working stock kernel ( its at 99% at least!)
Add the Thunderbolt Tweaks
Fixed Root and Recovery ( 95% of that was due to Entropy's Kernel)
Added some of the video libraries from the UCKJ4 builds to fix the video ( Thanks Dman for that awesome idea! )
Borrowed Dman's Insanely awesome instal script from Zeus
[Change log for Build 3]
Added Build.prop and init.rc tweaks for UI speed and network speed.
Added Extended Power Menu
Changed some more settings in the SystemUI for the drop down menu
Removed Over-scroll Glow and some odd borders
Made NON-wipe to install over Build 2. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend, specially coming from any other ROM to perform a DATA
FACTORY RESET.
Border-less - Extended Power Menu! Next Update Will be served up shortly. Does anyone know how to center it better though?
Awesome bro....ima test this now....love to see infuse development keep rolling...thank you...

Out of everyone here right now, I want to thank you Dman. With out your hard work and determination to become a successful dev, I wouldn't have had a great stock ROM to work from. You really poured the foundation for the past two ROMS that I developed, cause to be honest, as great at kernel development and smali hacker I am, I cannot deodex a rom to save my life. Thanks again!
If you ever need help or have questions i will be happy to answer them, though Dman probably will, but who knows about that guy.
Thanks bro...I really appreciate it

Thanks for the ROM..
how to disable voodo? I am on saurom, I want to make sure, its voodoo is disabled before flashing this.. I am at work, so dont want to brick phone at work.
I think I can flash without any problem with Saurom? please confirm..
Hell yeah something new to play with!!! Stupid question not sure this I'd why I'm asking. Can we use a gb kernel like infusion? And adrenaline tweaks wont work as of right now correct?

In CWM go to voodoo lagfix and select...then select disable voodoo...reboot and let voodoo disable...then reboot back to recovery and flash bionix

Thanks dman.. i will do that..
You can use other kernels, but as LB put it best, it breaks ****. You wont be able to view movies or videos of any sort. 99% of the tweaks are included, just not in init.rd as of right now. I had to hard code them into the file system. I have a kernel I will be releasing shortly based on stock, that has working recovery and voodoo, just not yet. Its still a stable setup, just lags really oddly sometimes.
The one thing that caused me to leave MIUI was lack of bluetooth audio. Looking forward to trying this out today.
Sounds like a good rom to flash and leave alone and enjoy. I know some roms have different steps to flash if coming from cm7 or miui is there any with bionix?

Come on now D u know I'm not new to flashing just want to make sure there wasn't anything else besides disable voodoo get back to red cwm. Like format anything at work don't want to brick.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
TBH, coming from CM7 or MIUI , I would odin stock due to the RFS format. Unless you can go into ADB shell , and format the /system , /cache and /dbdata with rfs.format in recovery, I wouldnt take the chance. LEt me know what process you did, and Ill update OP and credit you.
I'll let you know

Huge thanks to the many talented developers out there including (in no particular order) but not limited to:
chris41g, mkasick, Rodderik, nubecoder, earthbound, toadlife, thomasskull666, DRockstar, supercurio, Ezekeel, SenseiSimple, noobnl, xcaliburninhand, k0nane
See the feature table below the download section. I've maintained the same features in all the kernels (except where noted), so just download the corresponding kernel for your FC09 ROM and flash in CWM.
There seems to be some confusion around. Just because you are on the FC09 modem, does NOT mean you are on an FC09 ROM.
***This is the thread for the TW FC09 ShadowKernels. If you're looking for a ShadowKernel for another ROM, see the links at the end of the OP.***

Yes, I know I started back over with v1.0, but it's got FC09 in the build version, so hopefully I don't confuse people. I doubt anyone would still be using the old v1.0 kernels anyway. So, sorry for the delay, and I hope everything still works

Don't get too excited. I haven't added anything new yet It's just patched up to FC09. But expect to see some modifications in the future.
I was literally about to ask about this in the People's ROM thread tonight. Thanks bbelos, your work is GREATLY appreciated!

Maybe a Rom Populei v3, Kenny????
Downloaded last night, but i'm out of the country so won't flash till this weekend. I thank Mr BB a ton and welcome him back to TW with open arms
Has anyone been using this after coming from the No-LED version of Samurai? That's my situation, and I noticed that it doesn't appear the LED notifications are working in this kernel either.
Frankly, I prefer it that way, but I didn't know if bbelos was aware of the issue, or if it's only me...
Good point. Bbelos, Samsung screwed up the LED calls. I think you need to edit them to the EL30 numbers for the LED notifications to work.

I think we all noticed at the same time.
So even though this is an MTD kernel, this won't work with CM9?
I saw the note about these are just TW kernels and second guest whether I could use it with CM9 Beta 3.

Aside from CM9 requiring it's own non-TW kernel, it's also an ICS rom while this is a Gingerbread Kernel.

Kernel Updated to version 3.0.83
GPS STILL not working :crying: (will try more things :fingers-crossed
Fixed a rare call audio bug: Thanks Noiphonehere!
Radio Drops for sure gone
Temporary Google Splash Image for Kernel
CM-10.1 Version Updated from RC5 to Stable

No Longer "ENG" build!!!!
Release 3, Tuesday June 18th, 2013
Kernel Updated to version 3.0.82 (will work on update to 3.9.x over the next few versions)
GPS STILL not working :crying: (will try more things :fingers-crossed
Added Lulzactive, SmartassV2, and OndemandX governors (because noiphone felt like it...)
Hopefully fixed radio (network drop | call drop | multi-text) issue... Still in testing. Again thanks to noiphone.
Switched to releasetools-extensions... This has nothing to do with users, but the install progress in CWM now looks like it's frozen... it's not. This is something useful for sticking to aries.
More under the hood FFC changes.. Just so it's more clean.
Note: Because I needed more debug options, this is an "eng" build, so some settings changes and the screen unlock causes a red border to appear for 1/3rd of a second. It's not a bug. I promise that I won't do this in the next buld :fingers-crossed:
Release 2, Monday June 10th, 2013

Fixed Freezy Boot Animation
Device Settings fixed at the cost of giving up all hope for TV Out

Front facing camera is the wrong way. Pictures come out fine, just the wrong way. Probably also has the CPU bug that m4xman mentioned in his latest post on the CM9 thread. Other than that and GPS, it looks like everything else works. Great job
I will for sure fix FFC in next release

Awesome work! You should provide a link to your sources (I saw them already, but complying to the XDA rules and all).
Great to see a cm10.1 version of Aries already online. Time for the rom porting revival!

OK holy **** this is the fastest slickest ROM I have flashed in at least 2 months. This has blown every 4.1.2 and up ROM the sgs4g has out of the water IMO. If the battery life is even sort of good I'm going to be using this as my daily ROM. Wow team debug just wow was not expecting this. I mean I don't even feel the need to install nova launcher and I always always install nova launcher. ****ing great work guys

I have no problem giving all cash to noiphone, but you can't say that I didn't do anything.
Look at the github page, then you'll know.
In fact, the whole point of our team is noiphone works on kernel, and I work on device, but we can feel free to make changes to each as long as it's good.
We both worked on it evenly.

Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Hypothetically I could, but it doesn't build properly and will NOT boot unless you change the rom's zip.
so you could just repo init to the standard cm10.1 and add a local manifest with all our stuff on teamuserdebug and build it, but I don't want to update instructions until that not bootable problem is fixed.
well airflup1 we might not always have gotten along. We might have said things or did things in the past we are not proud of. Good work man on the rom and im proud of you. I mean that
Thank You Raver!
I apologize for all the trouble I have given you in the past.
