could use a lil help - Samsung Infuse 4G

Okay so I am not used to samsung infuse 4g, due to the fact that i have a droid x2.. but i rooted my amigos infuse for him, and was going to load cm7 onto it, but for some reason when i put it into the stock cwm[as directed], i could not find the cm7.zip file anywhere, and the only options i had in cwm were clear cache/data, and a few other things, but no options for uploading from the SD card. Any pointers?

has to be in the internal sd card. not the external card.

Did you see reinstall packages as an option?

sounds like you still have the stock recovery on need modified recovery
Sent from HTC Inspire Ice Cold Sandwich 4.0.3

okay, ill have to move it to internal. and i believe i did, but dont quote me on that because i dont have the phone sitting in front of me. but, i will have it shortly
also, i attempted to download the modded cwm from the link in the "Everything Shop" and it failed to dl both times i attempted

What color is the recovery? If it says Samsung recovery utility at the top and you can't flash a zip other than update, then you most likely have the stock 3e recovery. At that point you'd have to replace the recovery file in the phones system.

Here is goes... so my buddy tells me he flashed to cm7 trinity, but when I turn the phone on it loads to froyo without a baseband. Won't connect to either sd (says cards are busy).
It also seems he reset the phone so cwm is gone but the back ups are still on the micro SD. I have the nvidia flash and LG update. Neither acknowledge that phone but do mine. Any new ideas will be helpfully.

reflash cwm recovery, put the stock nandroid that is listed in the dev section into your recovery folder, restore than and start over brotha
Sorry I ment to say no boot. Cwm is gone. I wish it was that easy. I'm ready to tell him to box it up and ship it off to LG and eat the fees.

A reset wouldn't wipe your recovery image. Do you still have root? And, have you tried pulling the micro sdcard out?
Sounds like he didn't NVFlash CWM. That would be you're first step.

[Q] Rooting and Custom Rom Problem.

I just rooted my phone using Ace-Hack, everything was fine and dandy until I tried putting a custom rom on.
Everything was going smoothly, until I went to re-boot my phone. hearing from friends that it takes a little while before the phone fully re-boots. I let it sit awhile... after about 10 minutes I got a little worried. After 20 I got really worried.
Now it just sits there and plays the booting animation over and over and over.
Anyone have any advice?
Boot into recovery, wipe everything, try again.
recovery = Volume down and power button.
By try again, he means reflash the rom after wiping. Don't just wipe and try to boot the phone again.

Same thing happened to me when I tried installing my first ROM. Got stuck in a boot loop so I pulled the battery, booted into recovery, did a full wipe and re-flashed the .zip of the ROM. Worked perfect the second go around and haven't had an issue since.

Hey there i have inspre4g......i'm running android revolution v.7 and loving it.Mike did a suppurb job...and the ace hack kit is great....
it's a one step kit.....but you gotta read the manual....turn off all anti virus or mal ware and also uninstall any motorola ..htc (ex....kies)....apple programs
search for the advanced ace hack kit ......it has links to everything needed on the post.......
plus if you do mess up you can take your inspire back to stock through it and start over.......it does a lot of stuff so be patient......
................not sure if i helped but any other questions.......email me ....ill get back to you faster..... [email protected]
best of luck......
link to advanced hack kit.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
and after you do the hack and it completes.......and reboots......reboot agian...
then do your regular routine with setup......then do the superuser......then if you dont have rom manager......go to market and get rom manager and install it.....it will crank up........it will give you some info......ok it.....flash the clock work mod recovery(i prfer touch.....its a further down).....before it stops downloading near the end it should ask for superuser........ok it.......if you download a mod through it......it will basically handle itself......just pay attention......if you download through xda....or someplace....
easiest way......reboot to recovery using rom manager........
goto advanced options
davlvik clear
when finished......click go back.....
goto factory wipe.......click
when finished .....goto install zip from sd card
then got to choose zip from sd card
then choose the zip of custom rom you put on sd card.....
then install zip from sd card......
Some people find it easyier to just connect to pc and put the zip in the main sd card folder........it must be a zip......dont un compress or anything...
hope this helps.........let me know....

Caught in a loop - Guidance Please.

Good morning -
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm an existing user of the Galaxy Nexus and have been rooting / flashing it without any issue, but a little stumped on what went wrong with the captivate.
I picked up a brand new Captivate for my wife from Craigslist the other night for $60. I really nice phone...very nice screen.
I was successful in rooting it last night all though I did have to copy a recovery file into the system/bin. I believe that was because of a signature issue I was having and found some information on this site regarding the file.
Anyway, everything seem to have rooted fine and I copied CM9 to the proper location. Booted into ClockWorkMod and flashed the ROM.
However, it now boots to the AT&T screen, goes black, and then back to the AT&T screen. I can between ATT screens a script or something running.
I then used ODIN to get back to stock and appears it went through without any issues. However, it still gets in the same loop at the AT&T screen. I am still able to get into download mode. Perhaps I used the wrong ODIN.
Would someone have an idea of the next step? Do I need to get into some type of boot screen to do another master reset / format?
Thanks.
The first time when you were seeing the AT&T screen, a script screen, then rebooting, what was happening was that the phone needed to have the CM9 zip flashed again. The first time you flashed it, it essentially built the framework onto which the second flash would actually put CM9 in place.
As for where you are right now, you may want to flash back to a Gingerbread-based stock rom with bootloaders included (unless you're 100% certain it already has the Gingerbread bootloaders). There's a sticky in the development section that has all the stock roms.
Once you've flashed back to stock Gingerbread, try flashing the CM9 zip again. If it does the boot loop again, just hold Vol+/Vol-/Power until it reboots, and it should put you in ClockworkMod Recovery. At that point, just flash the CM9 zip again and you should be good to go.
One word of warning, as you're new to the Captivate. ICS-based roms, on some occasions, have a bug that can cripple the internal SD card of the Captivate. I'd suggest you look for the "Encryption Unsuccessful" thread in the Development section and read up a little bit so you are aware what that is.
Thank you for the assistance.
Is this where I should start for the ODIN?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3.
In particular, 'I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe'
Thanks.
That looks correct to me. I'm assuming you'll need the bootloaders package, as you had mentioned you were dealing with the 3e signature error (which, if I recall correctly, is associated with stock Froyo roms).
Okay. Maybe next time I should just stick with a non-ICS ROM. Just need to find one in the development section.
Thanks a bunch! A great little phone and the screen is just outstanding.
Okay....back up and running using "In particular, 'I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe" from the above link.
However, now I can't get the one click root to work.
There's an easier way. Go to the Corn Kernel, grab a CWM-based zip file and flash it from within CWM recovery. That will give you the Corn Kernel, which will (I believe) give you root access.
Double check, though, that you can get to CWM recovery by using the V+/V-/Power key combo. It should have about 9 options (instead of the 4 in standard recovery).
If you don't have CWM recovery from the flash you just did, you'll just need to grab another one-click that has CWM baked in. There's one that says "Without Bootloaders - Link to thread - by 4-2ndtwin [With CWM Injected Kernel from Boog]". That flashes KH3, no bootloaders, but with the CWM-friendly kernel.
Or...from the Stock KK4 just use this new Utility by Red_81 to get CWM Kernel and Root... [Utility] KK4 Easy Root

Another thing about cm7 or cm9 is you have to remove the external sdcard (storage) before you flash.

I've heard this before, but I don't think I've heard the reason for why it's recommended to remove the external SD card.
I only ask because I've flashed those with my external SD card in place and the flashes went ok.

I have tried a couple times last night with AOSP or AOKP and get into the same situation as you. However, I'm a rookie at the Captivate. I was able to flash a GB Custom ROM without issue.
More weekend research. I really want to try one of those other ROMS.

Unable to update via Kies Mini to GB from Froyo. - Trying to root

I am following this guide:
http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/22/root-samsung-galaxy-s-4g/
When it gets to the part saying it is updating the firmware in Kies, it keeps failing. I have done a few factory resets but I just can't get past this. I know I need to be on GB so I can easily get root and install CWM. Is there a way to install GB via ODIN so I can get this thing rooted+recovery?
EDIT-
And after this last attempt, it decided to work. lol. Well, it was probably cause I re-installed the Samsung drivers on the same page I downloaded Kies mini.

I guess that link to the guide was misleading. I am not using Heimdall either. I got root using the super one click in that guide, and then used SGS kernel flasher to flash kernel+CWM. Then when I went to CWM it wont mount SD card so I can't do a backup or flash a new ROM.
EDIT:
I think that part of the problem is CWM wants to mount /sdcard (as it should) but my sdcard is showing up as /mnt/sdcard so how can I fix this?
What do you mean it won't mount? If you go to backup it gives you that error? What version of CWM is it?
Never had that problem before... can I be one of those tech support people and ask if you are sure that you SD card is in. And have you tried putting the desired ROM on the internal phone storage
Edit: can you or can you not access your files on your SD card in cwm?

No, I am completely unable to access the SD card in CWM. I just ran gremlin remover, so I am going to try again with sgs kernel flasher. I will try the other kernel this time.
Don't know what ROM I want to use yet. I was hoping to find a good JB rom, but looks like there is no wifi on them yet. Any good ICS roms available?
EDIT:
And yes, the sd card was installed. I was able to access it when I would let the phone boot into android, then it was at /mnt/sdcard but /sdcard was showing the voodoo folder.
Right now I have the red text CWM after flashing with ODIN. Gonna try a backup and then go flash a different kernel.
EDIT:
Ok, right after the ODIN flash I am still unable to access the SD card in CWM. Maybe I have a bad SD card. I will try another.
EDIT:
Ok, so this is a SD card problem. I stuck in a blank 1GB SD card and had android format it. Then I put the kernel I wanted on it and rebooted into recovery, I was then able to access the SD Card and run a backup. I will backup my original SD card and then stick it in the phone to have it formatted, and hopefully I will be good to go after that.
OH, and still wondering what a good stable ICS rom might be, or whatever are good stable/fast.
Thanks.
Beastmode's CM9 seemed to work great for me. I am running his slim bean 4.1.2 which has WiFi but not GPS or camcorder.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
There's supposed to be a redirect from /sdcard to /mnt/sdcard that I've noticed when using several apps like Ghost Commander. Your main choices are either to make it yourself or to backup and reformat your SD card, especially if other SD cards work fine...
Well, I decided to go with Valahalla BlackEdition since I need a rom where everything works, and this one looks like all the bugs are worked out.
Thanks for all the help here guys!
