I love TiBu, but I'm a cheap guy. I like the fact that you can sync with Dropbox. So instead of buying the full version, I downloaded DropSpace (Free) and set it to automatically backup the folder of my choice (in this case the TitaniumBackup folder) at the same schedule as my TiBu. Problem solved!
P.S. I also use AppExtractor to restore the last state of any apps I had installed in NANDROID backups. My Titanium is set to back up new apps and newer versions, so it skips over new data in old programs. Doing things this way ensures that I have the most recent data without having to run Titanium AND create a NANDROID backup. Saves me time!
Anyone else have any other alternatives to Awesome but paid apps?

Wait till you have to restore a lot of apps. This method won't save you a single second! It's well worth paying for Titanium Backup for many other reasons but being able to just click restore once and leave it to it is soooooo much better!
MIUI=Problem solved. If you can root, you can flash a Rom, and MIUI has batch backup and restore built-in, including contacts which I don't believe TiBu does. I think Cyanogen might also have this capability, though I didn't check when I test flashed CM9.
That said, if you don't want to flash a Rom capable of this then it's definitely worth the money for TiBu Pro because restoring one at a time is a PITA, and Google Apps Backup will not run again if it fails to complete the first time after an SBF.

For what it's worth, TiBu Pro's auto restore is REALLY nice, but the price is also pretty steep IMO.

Not understanding what you're saying here...
If a guy comes to me and offers me what TiBu offers and he says give me $6 and I'll hook you up, I'll pay the man if I'm not capable of doing it myself for free. But in this case, I don't mind a little extra work to save me the cash. Besides, the more simplified a process is, the less you know about it. And when I repair and re-install other peoples phones, I cant convince them all to buy a $6.58 app to use possibly only once.

I did purchase the key for AppExtractor. It was a cheaper $1.99. A 3rd of the price. I'd been looking for this functionality for so long that I just impulse bought it. It allows you to restore what you want from your NANDROID backups. You can select all and have it just run. That should take the same amount of time as Titanium, right?

I can agree with you about doing something yourself for free and it is impossible to get someone to spend seven bucks on something they may use once. I have the pro version and it is one of my greatest tools when it comes to customizing roms to my liking;not just restoring apps but modifying framework apks.

It would probably be about the same time to restore, but to backup is a pain. You have to turn your phone off to create the backup, whereas with Titanium you can leave it running in the background.
It's good to have more choices though.

So buy titanium premium and backup to the SD card? I have the free version but it doesn't seem to back up in a way I can restore on the new phone easily at all.
Don't forget to backup your contacts to sim card or use google backup.

Holy crap! I've been using the free version for the longest because I didn't think Pro would add anything worthwhile. I just took a gander and saw "0-click batch restore"! , that alone is worth what the pro version costs.

When you restore, never restore system data, it'll likely cause random issues/bugs. You either want to restore "missing apps + data" (though, I've had issues that I believe could be tied with this option) or only "missing apps".
Lol yea the 0 click batch restore is pretty fkn amazing.

So, I rooted my Nook Color and my Nook Tablet, and that made sense to me, because they were so locked down. But this thing connects to my PC with no problems, and there's nothing I haven't been able to install on it. What is the point of rooting?

I don't see any reason to root the note 10.1
I had to return my first one because rooting it broke the s pen and flashing stock firmware didn't fix it.
I didn't need to root in the first place, just did it out of habit.

This device is great out the box. So for me, I feel no meed to root it yet. Once roms mature and developement and custom kernels pick up more, ill likely root.
I like the fact I can root my devices as it gives more flexibility if I need it.
I also like my clock to be accurate and I can't use clocksync properly without root...

Why would you want root access?
Well, ask yourself this...
Would you be satisfied with only your desktop and start menu as a user?
Or you would prefer to have access to C:\ as an administrator?
It's the difference between REALLY having control over your device vs having the illusion you have control of your device.
Titanium Backup, I can't stress enough how useful TB is. Between backing up, restoring, moving save data to another device, not to mention being able to save it all to cloud storage. If you ever have to do a factory reset, TB is imo the best way to keep your data.

ability to remove worthless stock software, or freeze it (via Titanium Backup).
access to apps that you otherwise might never have access to (example - Google Now before it got downgraded)

I'd suggest that you purchase titanium backup.pro from market, it well still save you hours if you continue to flash.
With it you can re-install all of your applications, although not a good idea to do the system ones, automatically for you, once you back them up using the product

Just wanted to add that you could do that with the free version as well, with the batch mode. I dunnot how it works in the paid version, but i've been backing up my apps with the same. The only con of which is while restoring the apps, its not completely automated. You have to keep pressing install on every dialogue that pops up. But hey its free and it works and its simpler, so..

That is true, but it is always better to support a dev that is adding great value to your device which indeed is the case with Titanium Backup. If one can afford it if course.

Definitely not over rated. If you flash a lot and are always needing to backup and restore apps and data, it does it very well. There may be others out there that are free, I'm not sure. I bought tibu after I rooted my first phone and have used only it since. For me, it's an invaluable tool.
I bought it a year ago and is worth it. he updates it and makes many improvements quit often

if you think an app is too expensive then just download aptoide off the market for free and then open that up type what app you want and download it from the different stores off there and then you will be able to get any paid app for free aslong as it on there it doesnt have to be even compatiable with your phone as some apps when you want to download them on google app market it says that your device is not compatible with the phone but APTOIDE lets you download those apps and automatically makes them compatable with your device.

I also got Rom Toolbox Pro yesterday. Crashed 3 times and completely froze 2 of my tablets.
This software is a mess, the UI is the worst thing I have used in my life. Some options are unstable and some settings wont stick.
It was only $2.99, so not a big loss.
This is very useful especially if you are into flashing new roms from time to time. Will definitely help you restore the apps from your previous rom as is.

I've purchased titanium backup pro years ago but now suddenly the screen opens with 'checking license' and after a long time it can't find it and goes to the free version. I tried restoring previous backed versions of the app but that did not change things.
Obviously the phone is rooted.
Google play says the pro version is installed.

I have nothing but trouble with it tbh. Still has the reinstall issue. Doesnt delete system apps for me, even though all the other system remover apps work fine.

There are some alternatives to titan backup nowadays, especially if you're going to try out several custom roms.
In general I'm very happy with titanium backup, switched today from a OP 3t to pixel 3a and I really got no issues at all. Using an otg usb-c stick made the whole procedure very easy.
The only thing what is really "oldschool" is that doing a backup/restore from example firefox will also backup the (maybe huge) cache-files and also a backup of netflix can be really, really huge if you got downloaded movies.
So, there should be maybe some kind of filter-functions for skipping for a backup unneeded files.
And yes, also the interface is from the last century. But it is doing it's job.

That's all I really want. A little bit quicker install for apps than over WiFi, and saved settings for some of my apps so I don't have to set them all back up again.

Then I think Titanium is still the best option for you.
I would really love to have a Titanium Backup replacement and would pay for it. It's just so old and has not been improved over the years.
I'm not talking about the user interface not being fancy. I like it that way. I'm talking about bug fixes, functionality improvements, and general usability.
