How to use "ROM Manager" with 4ext - HTC Desire S

Hi all,
is there any posibility to use ROM Manger with 4ext revcovery?

ROM manager is for clockwork mod. If you use 4ext, there is no need for ROM manager. Btw. 4ext is a lot more functional
Sent my thoughts to your head with XDA App

It true for "recovery". But I would like to use ROM Manager to download "google apps" and ROMs

I think for download purposes you can "fool" the ROM manager choosing "manual Flash Override" in settings menu

You can still use ROM manager to download whatever you want. And flash those files from Recovery. You don't have to have CWM installed for that... downloading stuff is a function of the app, not the recovery. For all recovery related purposes, 4EXT will do just fine... When you choose reboot into recovery, you'll still be taken to 4EXT Recovery.
Go ahead, test it out and post your observations here.

While you can download ROMs through ROM Manager, you cannot perform functions like flash ROMs and reboot to recovery through ROM Manager while using 4EXT recovery. Use the 4EXT Recovery Control App
The reason is that Koush (the guy who made CWM and ROM Manager) used specific code in his app/recovery that enabled them to perform these functions. madmaxx (the guy who made 4Ext) couldn't use this code, as Koush didn't reply to his PM's asking for permission. So, he designed his own app with different code. IMO, it's better and a LOT more functional than ROM Manager

That's right. If you, for some reason, OP still wants to use ROM manager instead of 4EXT Recovery Control, he can use ROM Manager to download whatever he wants, then boot into recovery, and flash the add-ons from recovery. (I understand that's what the OP was asking for... to be able to download ROMs etc using ROM Manager). Foe full control however, i would obviously recommend 4EXT Recovery Control.

digging up a bit of an old thread here but if you were to use rom managers add zip feature to load a chain of say 4 zips to flash would that work and then flash through 4ext. if not does 4ext control have that function?

Problems restoring backup with clockwork

Everytime I try and restore a backup from cwm the phone reboots to the first mytouch boot screen and just stays there. Is there something I'm missing on how to restore a backup? I'm using cwm 3.0.0.5, I make a backup, then when I want to restore it, I wipe data and cache and hit restore backup. Once it's finished, I reboot the phone, then it just sits on the boot screen until I eventually decide to pull the battery.

Clockwork Recovery 3.0.0.5 will work only with 2.3 (gingerbread ROMs).
Since the stock ROM is 2.2.1 you need to use recovery image 2.x.
you are in luck though. re-Flash CM7 download Clockwork ROM Manager scroll to the bottom "All clockwork recoveries" and flash the highest 2.x version they have. Then you can restore your back up without problems.
Thanks, I actually found that exact answer about 10 minutes after I posted this. I did just that, flashed cm7 then flashed cwm 2.x. I wanted to try cm7 anyway, but after an hour just trying to get the market to work, I decided to just go back to good old iced glacier.

I bet you didn't flash gapps or the newer version of it. That's why you couldn't get the market to work.

I have no idea what I did, but eventually I got it all worked out. I'm now a very happy cm7 rc1 user with a 1.84GHz smartass kernel.

Glad it worked out for you, but you (and others who may have this problem) could save yourselves a lot of this by downloading TrueBlue's zip (from development sub-forum) and flash it. It has cwm 3.0.0.6 plus stock TMO recovery.
With CM 3.0.0.6 recovery (thanks to Option94 for that), you can backup/restore both Android 2.2.x (CM6) and 2.3.x (CM7). TrueBlue's thread OP gives you instructions on how to use it.
It is a modified ROM Manager that "disguises" cwm's 3.0.0.6 and the stock Recovery as cwm 3.0.0.5 and 2.5.1.4 respectively.
PS - if you use it - don't forget to "thank" him (and Option94 also).
UPdate - if you subsequently update ROM Manager, it does not wipe out the above scheme with the disguised cwm's - it still works the same (at least through ROM Manager 3.0.1.0).

Ignore all those BS. Go in Market and download Rom Manager 3.0.1.0 and then flash the latest 3.0.0.5 (orange) recovery image. Then place the GAPP anywhere in your SDCard long as you know where it is. Reboot it in to recovery but selecting it from Rom Manager and then when its booted select Install zip from SDCard> Choose zip from SDCard.
Flash the GApp.zip and be done. Just remember when you flash NB via full wipe you have to flash GApp.zip everytime but if you just mount new NB on top of old one then DO NOT flash GApp.zip again as it will still be on your device as it ment to be installed once in that case.

No you didn't do what I said then. Go to Market> Rom Manager (3.0.1.0)> Download/Install. Then run Rom Manager and flash 3.0.0.5(latest not 2.5.1.2/2.5.1.4). If you use 3.0.0.5 you don't have to worry about 3.x(orange) or 2.x(green) as you can run 2.2/2.3 based without changing it.
3.0.0.5 < not Rom Manager its Recovery.
3.0.1.0 < ver of Rom Manager with 3.0.0.5 Recovery frame.
Problem is for people who don't know it get confusing as 3.0.0.5 could mean Recovery and Rom Manager. As normally other software specify and have different type of scheme for framework and software but in this case they both share same number so it gets little confusing.
ok i installed 3.0.1.0 rom manager from market so now i should have no issues when restoring 2.2.1 roms or 2.3 roms?thanks for the help man im coming from a Vibrant that was lost/stolen..that vibrant was so easy to root lol.thanks again

Well if you flashed 3.0.0.5 Recovery then no you won't have to worry about Green(2.x EXT3) or Orange(3.x EXT4) as you can flash both.

[SOLVED][Q] Recovery Issue

I flashed the virtuous unity 2.37 ROM and currently having fun with it.
I used Rom Manager to flash it and so my recovery is CLOCKWORKMOD 5.0.2.0
I back up my original rom with clockwork , and now I want to use 4Ext as all people out there is using it, So what should i do?
Should i Install 4ext and remove Clockwork(uninstall ROM Manager)?
Is there any problem if i remove ROM Manager?
What if i want to revert to original rom, Should I flash the backup , installing ROM manager again?
Hey There ! Give a little time to answer all those questions. Thank You!
EDIT: Using 4Ext 2.16RC2 with ROM Manager [Fully Compatible]

just install 4ext on top you dont have to uninstall clockwork app,the clockwork recovery will be overwritten with 4ext recovery
u need to download the 4ext recovery control app from the market. this willl then allow you to flash the 4ext recovery to your device.
this will still be compatable with rom manager if u select "manual flash overide" in rom managers settings.
please note that any backups made with the new clockwork mod will be in tar format and thus, any backups made with older versions of clockworkmod will not be compatable with the new version

I'd also suggest that you install this
S-OFF & root then install this 4EXT Recovery Control APK from Market will install 4EXT for you
Although that costs about 1 pound/dollar but is worth every penny/cent whatever you use

[Q] Flashing ROM Mods

When I want to install a bunch of mods to customise a ROM e.g. remove rosie nav bar, remove lockscreen nav bar, remove clock background, etc, do I have to do a reboot after I flash each mod? Or can I flash them one after the other in recovery and just do a single reboot?
I've always flashed them one by one. But I know if you have the fully featured version of 4EXT Recovery Control, you can flash as many as you want at once. Check the link below for more info.

can i flash lot of files without rebooting in CWM??
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
It depends from what do you want to flash. I've flashed CRT + APM + Battery mod + EQS in one go on ARHD Sense 3.0 ROM with both CWM and 4EXT. I had no problems, but you know, "if in doubt, leave it out" Make a nandroid backup, try it and you'll know next time if you can do it or not
All the mods I mentioned in my first post installed fine without rebooting between each flash.
Why do some people still use CWM instead of 4EXT? Are there some things that CWM can do that 4EXT can't? Or is it just for use with older firmware/ROMS?

GooManager vs ROM Manager

Reading a topic up here, the question just pop-up?
what Goo manager has or is doing different from ROM Manager
I currently use the ROM manager pro (I buy it not because I really use the pro facilities, but to support the developer)
I see the goo manager is free, still beta and use different recovery.
Else?

Goo Manager and TWRP recovery are actively maintained. CWR for the HOS...not so much. I have used CWR for years, but reluctantly switched to TWRP because it's able to flash boot.img on the HOS with S-ON while CWR can't.

Seems not be available anymore. Is there a reason why you need goomanager? For flashing a new recovery is Flashify much better as you can choose between different recovery versions

[Q] Installing Custom Recovery Twice

I installed a custom recovery through the WUG method before someone directed me to the GooManager method which seems a lot easier. They both install the same custom recovery (TWRP). In the app it asks if i want to install a custom recovery so does that mean if i install the TWRP again I'll be able to use GooManager for finding roms and nothing will break, can i download the roms from GooManager and just flash it from there using my already installed recovery (without installing the same recovery from GooManager), or should i just go the long way and install through the quickboot method?
It doesn't matter. Once you have recovery, you have recovery. It's a partition on your device that doesn't care where it comes from.

Like pirateghost said it doesn't matter. But I wouldn't use goomanager to flash roms. Download then from xda and flash them in twrp. Goo manager can be a brick waiting to happen if you're not careful.
Use xda not goo. This is personal opinion I am leery of it and do not trust it entirely to modify my phone.

1) Ditch the toolkit, save a kitten. Use fastboot to install a custom recovery.
2) Ditch GooManager, it's too unreliable to use to mod your OS. Download custom ROMs and kernels from XDA.
After viewing threads of what the ROM manager app had done to some people's phone I would follow Birch's advice.
