Right im on endymion ....my mobile shows "Limited service "message with all sims but if i change it to other phones they are working.....!!!!!!!1
What does it mean..is it a signal loss?? or sim lock??
what shud i do....

Definitely signal issue. I'm pretty sure it's not sim-unlock. Not to sound like Steve Jobs, but you're probably holding the phone wrong Covering the battery cover with your palm leads to signal loss, try to change your grip. If that doesn't work, try to change your ROM to some other Sense 3.5 ROM, like Virtuous Affinity, or, try AOSP - CM7/Reaper
Also, try another SIM, maybe it's just your carrier.

Wouldn't changing the radio be more likely to solve the problem?

[Q] Limited Service S-ON

Hi , i have a desire s
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO-38.03.02.11_M

and i keep getting "limited service". it might work for a minute or so but for the most part it doesn't. Just wondering is it possible to update the radio or any other suggestions would be appreciated.
I also noticed that on the battery / sim cover there are two metal connectors (slightly scratched), anyone know what they do?
Thanks

The metal bits inside the battery case help to make up the phones antenna, so scratches could be a problem.
For example if you remove the case completely, you should see the phone signal drop to zero after a few seconds.
Thanks for the quick reply..
hmmm thats what i figured, know any place i could get a replacement cover?

I've previously read on the forum that it wasn't possible to purchase a new cover, that was in threads regarding build quality from people who were having problems with the battery cover making a clicking noise, but that was about a month ago, and the device was reasonably new then, you may have more success now, try calling htc support/customer services and request the part?
if you could find someone with same device and try thier case for a few minutes at least you could then determine whether it was this that was causing you the signal problem.
There is the HTC accessory store http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_phone.aspx?i=209276 but on quick inspection I couldn't see that particular part.
Best of luck
thanks
another thing is that it might work to make a call, and then loose the signal. i read that a blocked imei number could cause that. I bought this on ebay so who knows where it came from...

You network service provider should be able to confirm whether or not the IMEI number is blocked
ok so i've checked some things... the imei isn't blocked, the cover isn't the issue either as it works with that off (albeit a little weaker). it works for a minute when i put it in and out of airplane mode... oh and i tried another sim i had and that one wouldn't work at all
So its either a local network issue or a device issue, have you performed a hard reset as yet?
Which would rule out it being software

just to be sure (i think i have) but how do you do a hard reset?

Theres a couple of ways, the easiest of which is
Settings-> sd & phone storage
And select factory data reset.
But, I be tempted to try the harder route which is
Power down phone
Remove battery for a few seconds, re insert it
Hold the volume down button
Press power button
Follow on screen instructions and select clear storage
This will wipe all on phone data and will reboot phone

In which case it could simply be that where you live has very little 3 network reception.
I'm not sure if 3 has network coverage maps available online which would enable you to check the expected signal coverage where you live/work.
Perhaps you need to move to O2 network!
nah my three signal is perfect, plus I've tried it in other locations, i'm stumped and i really dislike o2 so i won't be going back to them.... hmmm

how do i know if my htc inspire is unlocked?

Go to HBOOT menu (Power off. Then hold vol down, and press power.)
Check on top what it says. If it says S ENG-OFF it means its unlocked.

I don't think it needs to say S ENG-OFF to be unlocked, just SHIP s-Off.
Eng s-Off means the engineering hboot has been flashed, if I'm not mistaken, which is not the state that the basic rooting process leaves you in.

Did you put the back plate back on the phone after swapping cards? It has to be on to get signal.
Maybe your Mexican sim card will work in mexico.

Actually it doesn't have to say engoff to be unlocked. Attn1 will simunlock with only radio soff. Does your Mexican carrier have roaming in the US? If not maybe that's why you have no signal? Also are you still on the downgraded rom/radio, some people tend have issues with it, so flashing atleast attn1 Ota's might help aswell.
If you know someone with a T-Mobile similar, give that a try

well it does says S-Off in hboot
but for example i did all that hack it things, then put my mexican sim, i have a cross where the signal is, but i have an app where there is all those services of my carrier and says the name of my carrier ''telcel'' but without signal
then i flashed the ROM "TB fusion 1.1.8" so i think is is a new ROM? or do i have to flash stock one again?
another information... my band base version is 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M
i think after the U is the radio.... so it is ok? or what could be my problem?

Maybe I missed your answer, but I asked you if you put the cover back on the back of the phone after you swapped sims.
Hmm. You should have signal, you are putting the cover back on ask Scott pointed out? I'm personally not too familiar with telcel international roaming. If you use your similar card in another phone do you get a signal?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but boost mobile similar cards use the iden network witch isn't compatible with GSM, so I think that's why it doesn't work. Not sure why your Mexican sim cards are not working though. I've only tested my phone with T-Mobile and it worked. So not sure where to go
Edit- just saw that the other sim worked. Radios depend on alot of things that what works for me might not work for you.You could try the Ota's radio if you want

Are the correct apn settings being loaded from the sim? Sometimes the sim cards don't have the apn info on them, in which case you'll need to find them. I'm a bit tied up atm but I can see if I can find the correct settings

I have a Movistar simcard which roams on T-mobile's network while in the US and works fine as long as I disable data on the phone. If you want data to work, you'll probably gonna have to change the APN's settings.

let me see some proff of identification!!! att has detected you bro better move

Just had SIM unlocked and now have no network

I bought my Desire S from eBay which was Orange SIM locked and Orange branded.
After messing about with custom ROM's I set it back to S-ON and flashed the UK Orange RUU. It was working with an Orange SIM that I have, but rarely use.
I went to a high street phone unlocking guy earlier today and paid for him to unlock it. I didn't see exactly what he did, but he put a SIM in it and may have connected it to a small unlocking device. I asked him 'I can put any SIM in, yeah?' once he'd finished and he said yeah. I went to a nearby coffee shop and sat down, swapped the Orange SIM (which had a signal) with my giffgaff/o2 SIM and I also got a signal. 'great' I thought, 'his unlocking trick worked!'.
I put my giffgaff SIM back into my Galaxy S for the journey home, since I've got that all set up how I like it, and I put the Orange SIM that I don't use back into the Desire S.
Now that I'm home neither SIM is working
I thought to myself 'did the guy only temporarily unblock my phone?' but that can't be right because when I was sat in the coffee shop I rebooted the phone at least twice, if not three times, when I was swapping SIM's so a temporary fix would've been cancelled out then.
Is it because I tried to use a giffgaff/o2 SIM with an Orange branded RUU ROM? Would that have done something to my radio?
It sometimes displays 'limited service' on the lockscreen and displays 'no service' on the unlock screen bar.
I've tried switching it to GSM only in the menu's.
Should I S-Off the phone and flash a custom ROM to try and rectify the situation, so that I can use any SIM in the phone?
Could it be that his special SIM has dirtied the contacts in my phone?
It worked about 3 hours ago
Update:
I just picked it up and then noticed that I had a signal on giffgaff!
The signal has gone again but at least the SIM is working. Either there are local network troubles of the radio I'm using is not too good.
I'm going to go ahead and S-OFF, root and custom ROM to see if that helps signal strength.
Will a custom ROM install update the radio, or do I have to specifically flash a new radio?
So have you tried to use SIM in another phone?
I had same kind of issue. I called to customer service and they said that try SIM in another phone, then put it back to my phone and that solved the problem!
So I was changin my service provider and tested a new SIM in my phone(wasn't in operation yet) and then switched back to old SIM, then "no network". Randomly gave some signal but only few seconds at time.
Sorry for my english.. May be that I missed some points of your text But hopefully I helped!

[HELP] Can't connect to any network in UK

Hello
I have problem with my Sensation.
I bought phone year ago (on polish equivalent of ebay), from someone who lives in UK and he send me it to Poland. It worked perfectly there, till now.
Two days ago I came to UK, and since I switched phone ON after getting off the plane, I can't connect to any of the cellular network.
I am sure that SIM slot is OK because phone asks me to enter SIM pin code.
When I am trying to manually select network I got 'Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network', and when automatically 'Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later.'
Wifi and GPS working fine.
I dont have a clue whats the reason of that, where the problem lies.
Phone has ARHD 6.7.2 ROM, firmware 3.33.401.106.
Any help is appreciated as I need phone badly, to have mail and internet access throught the day :crying:
PS. I am starting to think that UK seller could scam me, and sold me phone with blocked IMEI or something like this? :/
Hi have you tried to change your radio And ril? This could help you regain signal. I can't recommend a particular radio and ril because we live in different areas and it will be different. However you can start by experimenting with the generic ICS radios and rils and see of one of those will reconnect your signal.best wishes.Hope this helps solve your issue!

Sounds like your Polish carrier/SIM might not be allowing international roaming. Get a PAYG SIM for a couple of quid and try that. That'd prove the phone side of things.
Try
Try putting in a diffrent Sim card to see if it's that.

If your home network doesn't have an agreement with UK networks then your SIM won't work, not sure if this is realistic as I thought they were all only to happy to help others take money from us. Try a UK SIM, if that doesn't work then your IMEI is probably blocked in the UK, but not in Poland.
It's a simple answer Your phone has been reported as lost/stolen in UK and IMEI has been black listed. It's now paper weight in UK.
Pogon telefon w PL i kup sobie inny w UK.
Sorry for not mentioning - ofcourse I tried other sim cards, like o2 and vodafone - neither of it worked. My PL carrier sim worked in roaming in different phone.
So it looks like IMEI is blocked, I just wonder if I should go to the Police to check this out but I dont want to have it confiscated :/
Butif its true, Im not going to leave this scammer unpunished - I'll try legal action :/

Instead of legal action why not just find him and remove a thumd. maybe both thumbs to be sure.
The sad thing about having an IMEI number on the black list is that it can't come off that list. At least from my experiences.

Apart from it not being a paperweight. Revival is possible but ILLEGAL.

[Q] Brain Freeze

Hi, Hoping someone can explain a solution to a problem my missus & I are experiencing with our Desire S mobiles. Got them a couple of years ago from O2 and never bothered deactivating the simlock although they were rooted.
Now we've come to the end of the contract and, having been given new phones we're looking to offload the Desires, but that when the problem manifested itself.
One potential customer, who's on the ASDA network asked me to try their SIM in the phone. This I duly did, but all that happened was that the lock screen appeared and then froze. All I was able to do was scroll down the "Settings" screen, but attempting to access any of the categories just dumped me back on the lock screen.
This means that I'm unable to unlock the phone as, even if the phone recognised a SIM I have no way of inputting a PIN. I then obtained SIMs from several different carriers, with identical results. I even tried restoring one of the handsets to its' previous, un-rooted state but this made no difference. Up until the freeze the boot sequence seems normal.
If it helps, when this happens the taskbar shows a small SIM-like icon with a cross next to it and "Emergency calls only" along with a completely greyed-out signal strength indicator so I'm at a real loss as to where to go from here- any suggestions? Thanks for looking.

Can you give more info?
Unlocked bootloader?
S-ON or S-OFF?
Recovery?Custom ROM or Stock ROM?
If you have sim lock on you should get a pin lock at start. That doesn't mean you can't put other sim in.You will just be asked for pin.

No, I never get as far as a simlock. Putting a valid O2 or GiffGaff (Also O2) SIM into the phone works fine (The phone was originally O2 and was never unlocked). However, any other SIM isn't recognised at all- The Lock screen won't respond to any inputs, the taskbar shows a SIM symbol with an exclamation mark next to it, and although you can drag the taskbar open, as soon as you hit "Settings" you just get returned to the lock screen. The phone is rooted (Cooldroid V9.0) but S-ON and has the 2.00.000 ROM. This is true for both Desire Ss that I have.

Looks like carrier lock (O2). XTC clip can open any HTC.There's no way yet to unlock carrier lock yourself without XTC clip or serious hacking.
S-OFF and all other solution won't help much. You can try find how it can be unlocked on other similar phones to Desire.
Sorry.Maybe someone with more exp in this kind of lock can help you.

Many thanks for the explanation. TBH I'd never heard of clip lock, tho considering my experience of O2 over the past couple of years I'm not really surprised. Do you know if there's any way to confirm carrier lock, and how certain is it that XTC Clip can solve this problem? I actually have a couple of Desire Ss in this state so I'm weighing up whether it would be more economical to buy an XTC rather than continuing in my quest to get them sorted by other means!

Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939801.
From what you can see XTC clip make phone Super CID (unbranded). You can find someone who have it at unlock your phones for low price.
To confirm carrier lock install custom rom and put sim card from othet provider in and try to access phone. If it ask for unlock code (not pin code) or you don't get anything (no service and only emergency call) then it is carrier lock. You can use search here on desire s xda forum with unlock phone and read about that problem.

Here's an update to my saga; After several visits to various phone shops that "guarantee" unlocking I was beginning to lose the will to live. I therefore thought I'd attempt to get this "carrier lock" that was mentioned removed so I rang O2 who originally supplied my phone. I spoke to one of their drones, who seemed to know what I was on about. He promised that he'd unlock the phone, and send me instructions via e-mail to implement the procedure.
This really cheered me up- for about 24 hours, when the promised e-mail arrived. It contained a code number and a list of steps, the first of which was "Load a non-O2 SIM into the phone and switch on". As you know this is impossible as the phone freezes on the lock screen whenever it senses a foreign SIM, leaving you with no way of inputting a code. So it looks like carrier lock is excluded from the list of culprits.
In the course of my frantic searching I've come across a couple of "possible" solutions, and I'd like your thoughts on their viability. First of all I read that an RUU may be the solution to my woes. I'd just like to know a)Is this really do-able, 2)Where would I obtain one from, and 3)What exactly IS an RUU? My other plausible scenario is to get hold of an XTC clip. They're pretty cheap, especially as I have 2 phones with the same symptoms, but what are my chances of success? Any help or advice would be really welcome- in the meantime I'm on the lookout for a piece of sturdy rope, a wobbly stool and a robust light fitting! Thanks for reading.
Incidentally, someone asked for details from the actual handset. Sorry for the delay; they are

Rom Update Utility (RUU) is update for HTC phones. It official update and it must match your phone CID.RUU update all and that mean all-radio,ril,hboot,rom.
Before trying RUU I advise you to try install unofficial CM 10.1 or 10.2 and insert non-O2 card and see what happen. If you got unlock dialog that would be great. If not then you can try RUU.
For using RUU first need to get phone CID.Best way is adb command get_allvar (or something like that-you can search for it). When you get CID then you find list of all CID here that point you to right RUU's for your phone.
RUU can be older then your current system and it will say it can't be updated but you can trick it with adb.You can read about it in downgrading hboot tutorials here.
But first try CM 10.1 or 10.2.
Sorry for english errors.
