They announced:
«...new devices from these partners will receive the latest android platform updates for 18 months after their first launch, if hardware allows...»
But:
The Android Update Alliance announcement was made 9 months ago, and contained many of the major industry players, including Verizon, AT&T, Samsung, HTC, Spring, LG, Motorola, and others. How much progress has been made in implementing the program? Well, just about none at all as far as I can tell.

And as far as I can tell, Motorola, member of the founding team,
announced the device Motorola Defy+ in August 2011 (that is a fair time after 2011 May 10),
launched it September 2011 (let's stretch it to 4 months before the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich),
with capable hardware (ask LG Optimus P970 and Lenovo Ideapad A1),
and has shown no hope for official latest android platform updates (ICS).
'nough said.
EDIT:
Truth be told, Sony Ericsson has done a great job untill now, they guaranteed Ice Cream Sandwish
for all their 2011 Android (some of those launched before 2011 May 10), we have a champion.
But the situation still a mess for the rest of the team... And same for others outside of the team.
That is a great thing as long as your not in the Us where the manufacturers have no control over updates. The carriers have total control of what gets updated and what doesn't. Most carriers EOL the device after 4 months so this will not happen here.
Maybe it could happen, I hear the founding team is a partnership from Google and 5 manufacturers (HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson) and 5 carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Vodafone).
I expect at least an apologize from those who did not fulfill the compromise.

Will they make it? Will they be close? What Devices?
My guesses for the last three promised for mid year (though I don't think they're on track to make it), after the Moto Backflip and the Dell Aero:
* HTC Legend
* HTC Desire
* HTC Slide out dealie (their exclusive HTC)
After that, maybe the Samsung Galaxy S, Maybe a Moto Milestone.
If these things don't come to pass, then it will lend support to those that say that AT&T is enjoying too much success with it's iphone exclusivity to rock that boat by taking Android seriously. If AT&T keeps it's word, it will be an interesting 39 days until the end of the first half of the year.
with the recent rumors about the Lg Aloha, Samsung Galaxy S, Dell Aero, Dell Streak it seems like they might get some decent android phones. Only time will tell if they will jack them up like they did the backflip
AT&T has a habit of taking a good concept phone, castrating it, pricing it way too high, slapping their Nazi data plan requirement policies on it, and sticking it on the market. Nothing will change.
People with half a neuron buy their phones third-party, unlocked. My rooted G1 outperforms anything stock that AT&T puts out, thanks to the modding community.
Legend and Desire seem like plausible candidates. Also there was a "confirmed" rumor about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, not sure what happened with regard to that one.
The Desire is too nice. I'm sure they'll pick 4 more craptastic Android phones if that. They may have a different version of what "the middle of the year" means.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me, but I don't think the bean counting year is the version they were referring to in the press release, though if they fail it could be a convenient excuse.
I hope they get on the stick - the HTC Desire would be a great fit.
the Sony xperia x10a, HTC Desire and Dell Aero mini ar the only ones left my guess is the Nexus 1 is the HTC exlcusive From a post I read yesterday ATT Iphone contract done in June? maybe it was July but its over with for sure this year Read somewhere local to me VZW picking up the iPhone 4, 3 employees in the store have the phone in their possession and are bound by a confidentiality agreement, but this is all speculation still but according to this they will come close to doing it even though all release dates are unofficial. My guess is they are having problems with branding and keeping them locked to their crapware only. http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/AT-T-Cingular-carrier-c_14_3.html
I'm sure this all old news though
So what does this say for an exclusive iPhone retailer selling more and more android phones....wonder how Stevie jobs feels bout this lol

Google to take on Apple iPhone with new Samsung Nexus Prime
Google and Samsung have announced that they will reveal "what’s new from Android" on 11 October. Sources inside the companies confirmed that the event will see the launch of a major new product, heavily rumoured to be the Samsung Nexus Prime.
The new handset that will run Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of the operating system.
The San Diego event will be the first time Google has launched an operating system that runs on both tablets and phones, and takes place the week after Apple is set to announce its latest iPhone in California.
Rumours about the prime’s specifications suggest it will feature a dual-core processor, a large 4.5? screen and 4G capabilities for countries where they are available. Speculation has also suggested that the event will include a new tablet, or at least an update for the software currently running on existing Samsung tablets.
Google has been keen to emphasise that, despite continued wrangles over patent law, it is continuing to launch new hardware and software. A spokesman said that “Microsoft are resorting to legal measures to extort profit from others’ achievements and hinder the pace of innovation. We remain focused on building new technology and supporting Android partners.”
The search giant believes new hardware and new announcements with manufacturers will convince the industry that it will not be cowed by legal action.

so if this is to be believed ICS is the finished article already,i was under the impression it would be nearer the end of the year before we would see ICS, and the 2.3.5 leaked update has only appeared on here
I still say this..If android had the quality of apps that iphone has forget about the iphone all together...Android for me is tops and my galaxy s2 i love it to death...i am sure we are going to get the update of ICS and im sure Gadget or any other dev will port it to us once released....
I am waiting for the s3 to come out next year and im sure that will be one of the best phones when its released..For the time being as long as devs support our handset no need to change it...
and figure it out bud. apple knows that android is growing day by day month by month..so they try and bully the way to get competition out...great post and i am sure you will get many opinions in here
Yeah i doubt ill be changing my phone until next year at the very least i only have the GS2 under 4 months anyway.
I'm surprised though that a leaked version of ICS had not been posted on here when according to this article it will be on this new phone which will be launched on October 11th in 10 days time.

It's a google device, they always get them first. If we're lucky and ICS source is released to Samsung et all on Oct 11th then we might have a leak come November. God knows when an official build will go out.

agree totally to that. hopefully by Nov we should have a leaked rom..hopefully that is
I know that HTC is planning to release ICS on quite a few of their handsets 1st Quarter of next year, but the carriers are going to be the bottleneck for when the update actually goes live to handsets. If bell mobility is to release their ICS for Sensation build first, this would make the dev for the device a lot less of a headache.

If you had any doubts that we're officially in the "When's my Ice Cream Sandwich update coming" season, let us put them to rest. Beyond the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the big question is how manufacturers will roll out Android 4.0 in conjunction with their custom skins and software. Sony Ericsson is making strong headway, and now Mobile Syrup is giving us our first hints for some other devices. A leaked internal document from Bell in Canada has estimated release dates for a few top-tier Android smartphones:
HTC Sensation — February 2012
HTC Raider — March 2012
Samsung Galaxy S II — April 2012
LG Optimus LTE — TBD
Obviously these rumored estimates are unofficial and probably subject to change, but at least its a solid sign that ICS is in the works for some of the more popular 2011 smartphones. The frozen north appears to be getting ready for this frozen treat, will US carriers keep up?

Samsung itself has confirmed that the update of the Galaxy S II for Android 4.0 to devices already come on March 10. That's right, tomorrow you will have a new Android on your phone, here in Brazil.
Previously the company had given the March 15 release date for the update, but now the date got closer, news that lets users very happy. According to Samsung, simply tap the icon to update the operating system to take you to the Android Ice Cream Sandiwch
According to a statement released by the company, will release the screen with facial recognition, Android Beam and improvements in the way of counting the cellular data used per month. The problem is that the Flash plug-in support for Bluetooth 3.0 and will not be recognized by the device. Strange, no? Problem of losing office for operating system support is nothing nice.
The update will be delivered to all devices unlocked and the entire planet, nothing was said about the customizations that some operators do with their gadgets. That is, if you bought the phone in a shop operator, may take some time to get ICS in your hands.

Yes, if you had any doubt about Motorola going backwards on timely updates under Motorola, we do not worry!
Apparently, it stands confirmed now that the G4 Plus is in line to receive the 7.0 before this year's end.
-- source
Now, Q4 isn't too quick, but we are okay with this, right?
And how many Galaxy sets you think will get before G4 Plus. Well, not many, they are still busy replacing units, and changing batteries.
Q4 begins in four days. We'll be seeing people complain on saturday
It means that is or Q4?
even though this is retbr thus comes fast ...??
Can't wait to taste the Nougat!
I hope you come soon ....
Sorry to stick out like a sore thumb, but as per http://www.lenovo.com/ww/lenovo/results.html
and given Motorola Mobility having formally fully acquired by Lenovo, LNVGY's fiscal ends March 31. So unless the good folks at Lenovo meant Q4 of the current calendar year, it may take slightly longer than expected/desired.
The quote was "Android 7.0 Nougat update before the end of Q4 this year."
Didn't say "fiscal year"... Nor "beginning of Q4"... It can be as late as 31 December as far as I can tell.
Come on the Hype Train!!! I can't wait for Nougat!
Although, I did root my phone, so I'm gonna need that firmware when it comes out... Oops.
