[Q] How to root SGS2 using this guide? - General Questions and Answers

hi...can someone help? im a bit confuse how to root the SGS2 I9100DXKI2...
now im prefer this guide coz easy root and unroot
Method 1 works with all firmware version
1. Download an insecure kernel from either Chainfire or Odia's thread. Any version will do so just grab the newest one, it doesn't need to match your current kernel version.
2. Download the stock kernel to match your firmware from below
3. Extract both kernels and remember where you've extracted them.
4. Download SuperOneClick V. 1.9.5. I know there are newer versions but just do what I say.
5. Make sure that your device is in USB debugging mode: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging.
6. Put your device into download mode. To do so: Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding VolumeDown + Home + Power simultaneously.
7. Start ODIN. Wait for whatever drivers need to load and for the ID:Com section to turn yellow
8. Click on the PDA section and select the insecure kernel you extracted above. Make sure only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time is ticked in the options
9. Click on start
10. Wait for it to reboot and then close Odin
11. Start SuperOneClick and don't change anything on the screen. I hope you didn't remove the USB cable but if you did just reconnect it
12. Hit root
13. Allow it to install everything it prompts you to, i.e. SU, BusyBox
14. When it's done just shutdown your phone and remove the USB cable
15. Put it into download mode
16. Start Odin and hit the PDA section and select the stock kernel you downloaded and extracted earlier that matches your firmware version.
17. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:Com box to turn yellow.Make sure only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time is ticked in the options
18. Press start. Let it flash the stock kernel and reboot
19. You're now rooted.
Click to collapse
but it ask odia insecure kernel (can use any version?) & stock kernel (mean KI2) rite?
do u have download link?
i have SuperOneClick V. 1.9.5 and odin already...just 2 file i mention i dont have...i dont know which can i use..please help me...help...TQ

Yes it will install custom recovery on your phone and you can install custom roms (if there are any good ROMS out there which are better then stock).
But I wouldnt suggest trying any other ROMS for 3 reasons;
1. The bootloader of a lot of the Sky-850 variants are locked so you might brick your phone by trying to install another rom (I did once took me a good 5 hours to bring it back to life)
2. They are all in Chinese and Vietnamese so you can accidentally flash a wrong ROM without Knowing the right one.
3. None of these ROMS out there are any better then the stock one, not even close so you better stick to the Stock ROM.

I've got an A850S, and the only reason why im looking for a custom ROM is for the SMS fix, I'm using the phone outside korea you see. I'm actually looking for a modded stock rom for the SMS fix, or like a patch i can install for the sms fix, but haven't found any yet.

I also have the S version, Just Install Go SMS or Pansi SMS from the market. You will be good to go.
You can also root the device using the method above and freeze the stock messaging app (which I would not recommend for you).
So the best way is Install a good messaging app from the market and hide your stock messaging app using the hide feature in the app drawer.

I know what you mean by freezing the stock messaging app, thing is, if i use go sms or whatever sms app, im able to send messages with 160 characters fine, but anything more than that, it says unable to send message at this time, please wait until the service becomes available. I can set handcent to break the message into 2 separate ones, but id like it to be just one message if you know what i mean. (sorry kinda OC)

Is there any way to roll back to original recovery and unroot

Rooting 2011 Xperias running ICS 4.0.4 only.

Hi! All.
This one is for noobs to root their phone in the same way as the moderators explained but in easy language.
1. Download flashtool for xperia, google it and you got that.
2. Then download the 4.1.A.0.562 kernel for your 2011 xperia, you could google it or try it on 4shared, all you'll get there.
3. Go to flashtools>firmwares and delete everything present and then put the downloaded kernel.
4. Also you need to install the adb drivers for your phone. If you're not sure of that then go to flashtools>drivers and install the specific driver of your phone.
5. Now go to settings>developer options> and turn on usb debugging.
Then go to security and tick unknown sources.
6. Now switch the usb connection mode to mass storage mode(MSC).
7. Connect your xperia to your computer. Open flashtools.exe and click on the flash icon (that like a lightning/bolt) and select flashmode. Click on the respective kernel and click OK.
8. Follow the on screen instructions and you're done.
**You also need to download DoomLord's rooting toolkit for xperia.
9. Now turn on your phone, when the sony logo appears plug it to your computer and open your rooting toolkit and press enter.
10. Your phone may reboot several times, don't worry about that.
11. After it is over now again connect it to your computer, open flashtool.
**You also need to download the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel for your respective xperia, most probably you'll get it on 4shared.
12. Put that kernel in flashtool>firmwares.
13. Now again click the same flash icon and select the 4.1.B.0.587 and click on ok.
14. Follow the on screen instructions and you're done.
15. If there isn't any superuser or superSu app installed, that means you've not followed the steps proper and you are not able to complete rooting.:good:

Im usin a straighttalk SM-M820L. Is there any way any of this can be done without a pc? My phone is rooted tho. I used the {yup you guessed it} kingroot method and then i did the "replace kingroot with supersu" no pc method. Is there any tips or pointers that you could give me? I'm not using a pc because it was stolen a little while back and I just haven't had the spare cash to get another. Plus I just started tinkering with this and it's super more interesting than I thought. I'm trying to learn all that I can. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Samsung SM-J105F root

can somebody with a recovery that I can mode to run on my phone help? I am tired of using 360root.apk I want to use SuperSU and not these apps with Chinese interface
Here are the steps I followed after some extensive reading of other peoples methods and trying every possible app that would not work:
How to install TWRP and root the Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini (SM-J105F)
The device is powered by a Spreadtrum chipsets and Android 5.1.1
Basically what you need to do to root your Samsung, is to install/flash a custom recovery such as TWRP, which other than the limited functions of the OEM recovery, has all the features you need to flash a custom rom. You then boot into this TWRP recovery and use the touch menu to install/flash the SuperSu xx.zip file to give you root. It seems that other methods to root do not work on this specific phone.
Here is an Odin3 flashable *.tar md5 TWRP file that will also make it possible to root your Samsung Galaxy J1 SM-J105F, unfortunately it has to be paid for. Find it here: http://www.saroms.co.za/product/samsung-galaxy-j1-mini-j105f-root-file/ - and follow the bellow steps to flash the TWRP custom recovery and after rooting your J105F Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini.
Note: Odin3 only flashes with xxxx.tar or xxxx.tar.md5 files. TWRP can also flash xxxx.zip files.
To get into Odin mode or Download mode on the phone, switch off phone and unplug any cable to your PC or charger. Now hold in the Home button, the lower part of the volume button (V-) and the power button simultaneously. The phone will boot into a recovery screen and if you push the top part of the volume button (V+) you will switch to the Download screen. Only now can you plug your phone into the PC and run Odin3
Once TWRP recovery has been loaded, do the following to boot into TWRP recovery: Disconnect any cables to charger or PC. Switch off the phone. Now hold in the Home button, the upper part of the volume button (V+) and the power button simultaneously. The phone will boot showing the Teamwin screen and then the menu buttons which work from the touchscreen.
If you do not want to pay for the correct TWRP recovery for your specific device, then use Google to search for the file: TWRP SM-J105H_F_M_Y 5.1.1.tar
1. Download the following files:
(i) OEM Samsung firmware for your phone in case you have to fall back and reinstall the firmware i.e.
XFV-J105FXXU0AQA3-20170329071250.zip
(ii) TWRP SM-J105H_F_M_Y 5.1.1.tar or any other custom TWRP recovery file for your model phone.
(iii) UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.79-20161211114519.zip
2. Go to Settings > About device > Software Info > and tap on Build number a few times until you are a developer.
3. You should now see and tap on 'Developer options' if you go back to Settings.
4. In Developer options. turn on 'OEM Unlock' by moving the slider to the right, Enable. Never set that setting to off once you have loaded a custom firmware or TWRP custom recovery! You phone will brick and only show *“Custom binary blocked by FRP lock” after the next reboot!! (FRP = Factory Reset Protection)
* If so install OEM firmware with Odin3 and start again.
5. Copy the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.79-20161211114519.zip file to the root of your internal storage SD card (not external). This will be installed by using TWRP recovery. Use your PC to do this.
6. Turn the device off and boot into "Download Mode” (V- and Home and Power ... and then V+)
7. Run the Odin3 application on your PC and load the recovery *.md5 file under 'AP' or load the file: TWRP SM-J105H_F_M_Y 5.1.1.tar.
8. Connect the MS-J105f to your PC and let Odin3 connect and ID:COM will go blue and show i.e. 0 : (COM4) > then click Start.
9. The SM-J105F will power on when done. Disconnect cable and power it off again.
10. Boot into recovery (V+ and Home and Power) will now boot into TWRP.
11. You will now see the TWRP menu touch screen.
12. Tap Install > scroll to the "UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.79-20161211114519.zip" file you downloaded and copied to the phone memory tap it.
13. Swipe at the bottom slider to confirm install.
14. Tap Reboot to system when done and you should be rooted.
15. Install and run SuperSU from the app store and run.
16. Install and run Root Checker Basic.
To reinstall the OEM firmware, download the proper xxxx.zip from the Samsung website.
You must the extract the xxx.tar.MD5 file from the download
If you can get into the Download screen on your SM-J105F then use Odin3 as above, just under PA select the OEM file xxxx.tar.MD5 (it takes a short while to select properly as it a very large 2 gb file after extracting)
Hope this helps someone else. Thanks to all whose posts and contributions helped me.

How to root your phone?

Install Magisk https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v24.1/Magisk-v24.1.apk on your phone. Oh yes, in case you do not know, you need to allow the app to install apps so that you can install the apk.
Transfer AP_xxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 in the firmware you download from your PC/Laptop to your phone.
Open Magisk on your phone and press the install button in the Magisk column. Select 'Select and Patch a File', 'Let's Go' and find the AP_xxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 and select it. You can have a cup of coffee if you like when you waiting for the patching of the file.

Turn off your phone. Connect a side of your USB to your PC/Laptop, keep pressing volume up and down together until you go to Download Mode. Put another side of the USB into your phone. When you arrived at Download Mode press volume up. Open Odin3_v3.14.1.exe on your PC/Laptop:

-Click on AP and select magisk_patched-24xxx_xxxxx.tar
-Click on CP and select CP_xxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5
(If you want to keep your data don't flash CSC).
-Click on CSC and select CSC_OMC_xxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5
-Click on USERDATA and select HOME_CSC_OMC_xxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5
When it finishes flashing it, it will automatically reboot and you can gain root access.
Optional: If you want to have the safety net passed (most of the banking apps use it), then you need to install the zip
as a Magisk module in Magisk https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix/releases
How? Go to Magisk → Modules → install from storage and select the zip you downloaded.
Or you could just get your AP file and extract your boot.img.lz4 (use lz4 from github), put it on your phone and patch it with Magisk, then flash the VBMeta that this thread has in Odin, reboot and erase the cache and data in the stock recovery, rebooting to download mode again and flashing your magisk patched boot img in a tar file.

I agree with you. You can also use this way. However, using Magisk does all the jobs makes life easier and I am a bit lazy
Hi! I'm new into rooting and I just wanted to know, What's the risk of bricking when using magisk? I've rooted an old phone successfully via TWRP tho this way seems a bit more direct, and can I choose any region during the official firmware download?

The worst that would happen is a bootloop, which you can easily fix with a factory reset (not a good solution, but at least it works). The only dangerous part is installing the wrong TWRP version or a failed Odin flash, but no bricks. Odin mode will almost always work. Just make sure you have a charger in good condition.
As for picking regions, I'd just pick the phone's original region, if I were you. I'm not actually sure if region is tied to the device itself but better safe than sorry.
Greetings...
To check your Buld Number or Build Version, before you proceed doing any stuffs, type on the phone keypad this >>> *#1234#* and it will show on your device screen
Just tried to follow the guide, but I'm getting an error while flashing:
Custom binary blocked by OEM Lock: vbmeta
Firmware used:
A226BXXU4AVB1_A226BOXM4AVB1_NEE
Patched AP with Magisk 24.3.
Edit: NVM, LONG press volume up...
tried to follow the guide my A22 is rooted. But i have problem.
no application recognizes the root. I installed root checker and he says my phone is rooted but superuser binary files it not installed
Any one can help please?

I am not familiar with the A22 series, but I will say this: I'm rather wary of questionable root solutions, especially those that aren't open source. This is why I personally prefer Magisk - it is completely open source, so anyone who would like to examine the code can do so.
Sorry, when i See this tutorial, my phone has updated to android 13. Could this step possible to do now with this android version?
Very much thank you for the information!
have successfully run the tutorial above. even already using GSI rom android 13 from pixelExperience. but the network you get is stuck on 4G. are there any tools or tutorials to restore the 5g network.

Code:
Your warranty is now void.
If you root your device, Your KNOX status will be tripped.
You can still pass the safety net after you root if you follow the instructions.
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards although it is not really possible
Please do some research if you have any concerns about doing this to your device

Have you tried Universal Safetynet fix? https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix
I rooted the phone according to your guide
But after everything I can't connect to the internet
Youtube, system update doesn't work
MAGISK itself was able to update without any problem
Chrome will turn on pages, but without images and displays error about unsecured connection
