Discovered this by accident.
By coincidence I came to press the power on/off button quickly followed by pressing Home button and the phone took a screenshot of my screen.
It is a non rooted phone HTC Desire S, software version 2.10.401.8 with Sence 3.0, Andriod 2.3.5 ... thought I'd share it with you.
Do not know if it's a new thing, but I did not know that you could take screenshots without root?

Don't take all this mocking to heart buddy... we're all just pulling your leg. I know you feel that this us a super secret that you discovered all by yourself... but this function is stock on HTC sense since version 3.0..... Sometimes its better to just accept such foot-in-mouth situations graciously rather than make unsuccessful attempts at justifying your inaccurate statement. We're all human and allowed to make mistakes...
Cheers.

I noticed the Gingerbread update for the HTC Evo did not include a way to access the power saver options. Unless I missed the shortcut somewhere. The power save mode is are turned on by default. This could cause some problems if you get below 30% battery and it cuts off everything running like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Data, etc.. Anyways, I made a very small app that opens that menu. Devs, feel free to use in your Sense ROMs.
Hope all is well,
Ken
Well this is cool, but the menu can be accessed by going to settings, hit search button, type power.

Wow every day I get floored by crap like this.
1. This is for the HTC evo 4g running gingerbread aka 2.3.x
2. HTC One runs jellybean aka 4.1+
3. If you try this on the htc one you must be brainless

Is there any way I can bypass the 'rung unlock' procedure on my Sensation? Once I've unlocked by pulling up the ring, I then use the pattern unlock (to safeguard my phone) - so I almost feel as though I'm unlocking twice!
Also, after the phone goes to sleep after timing out, is there an alternative to pressing the power button at the top to awaken it? My power button is stiff under my gel phone case, so it's sometimes difficult to wake the phone up again. Something on the screen would be ideal.
Thanks in advance guys.
All this features are available on CM rom, hopefully it won't take long before we see functional build, it's impossible on sense rom to use this advanced things...
As a new Sensation user, I would also like to see the ring removed. It'd be better if I didn't have a PIN security screen, but I do, which means it takes longer to get into the phone.
You can install an application named Battery Indicator which has an option named disable lock screen.
Very basic, but it works.

Thanks for the help - I haven't (and would rather not) try a pirated version.
I tried a few free apps yesterday that said they'd do the same thing, however they removed not only the ring screen but also my PIN lock screen. Does the app you suggest only remove the ring screen? If so, I'll buy it.

I'm not sure if I get your point, but you may try the pirated edition, and if you like it, uninstall it and buy it
You won't loose anything doing so
But I think it removes the PIN screen too :/

Hi
To those of have already updated your sensations to 2.3.4 could you confirm this
Simply hold the Power button and tap the Home key.
Your screen should flash and a toaster notification will inform you that the image has been saved to your camera (DCIM) folder
The screenshot will appear in "Camera shots" in Gallery.
This is apparently the same as the SGS2
i know, i am a noob. I watched the noob video made by azrienoch
and i realize, that everybody hates noobs (read: hates me).
But what is this with similar topics
recently? i am fairly new to xda and even i see that
some threads are duplicates of other threads that were posted days before.
I thought we have to use the forum search to check if anyone else
got a topic covered before posting/asking stuff...
here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225273
anyhow, seems that nfinity-Mod doesn't have this. Friend of mine with the htc-tattoo runs nfinity-mod with 2.3.4 and he can not do this.
Yep, this is working on 2.3.4.
This has been mentioned already and confirmed
It worked for me OP.
Working since 2.3.3 no need to start a new thread.

Hi all,
If you need to reset your sensation just hold vol+, vol- and power together and keep them held until the phone reboots - usually a couple of seconds.
Much easier than pulling the back off and removing the battery.
Mod - please add to the stickies.

Indeed working fine, tested and restarted the phone about 5s after i pressed the buttons.
This doesnt always work, but will most of the time. Last night I had to pull the battery since this method wasnt working. Its worth a try before doing a battery pull though.

Another method is to just use ADB commands to reboot or reboot into recovery. IE: adb reboot or adb reboot recovery.
I had to do this when recovery stops responding.
Ummm... By the time you have counted to 5 and hoping the phone resets, you could have clicked back off, pulled batt and clicked cover back on.
If you are quick
Just tried it - works pretty well. Thanks for the tip.
If you look in this section, there are people losing their volume rockers or disturbing the connections between battery cover and body by repeatedly removing and refitting the battery cover.
This way, there's no risk to the phone.
Plus, you can reset the phone easily if it's inside a case.
You're welcome to keep pulling the back off though if it makes you happy.

Do you have a Sensation? Did you see how the cover looks? Don't you think that removing it frequently will cause damage?
Oh yeah, and removing it is really "fast" and "convenient" if you use a gel case.

Wow take a chill pill mate! Only having a joke!
Yes I do have a Sensation. It has a lovely screen protector on it, it is rooted / running ARHD and it has one of them clicky leather pouches that you get for £2.50 off Donington Market. More to the point, I have been repairing Steve Jobs equipment for erm... Years now!
Low post count doesn`t imply that the person is a muppet! Indeed, you could learn a thing or two my friend in Bucharest...
Some phones are not designed to be hard resetted in the way the OP describes, but yes it is an excellent tip.
My post doesn't mention any other phones and is only posted in this section, so I'm only talking about the Sensation. I haven't tried this on any other device so I can't say if it works on any other phone.
All I said is it's an easier way of performing a hard reset on a HTC Sensation or HTC Sensation XE without removing any parts.
I'm no expert, I'm just sharing a tip I found. Use it, don't use it, it's absolutely fine by me whatever anyone chooses to do.
Chill, people.
