flash once, then flash a second time with bootloaders checked.
then flash defuse kernel
then recovery
then flash uclb1
you can also try flashing entropy's latest first before the other step
I am trying to end up with stock kernel uclb1 with root.
Could I flash UCKJ4 and again to get boot loaders
Flash stock uclb1
Flash unsecure kernel
Root
Flash stock kernel back
I don’t think there is a way to use recovery with stock uclb1 kernel?

yeah...that will do it.
Dman already rooted it.
There is no need to flash an insecure kernel because dman's version already has 1.
You can mod or change it to your taste. debloat etc...
Then flash the stock kernel he has in the OP.
You will have root.
Recovery will be samsung blue 3e. If you want red recovery, flash an insecure kernel like defuse or entropy and go from there.
You'll feel like a magician pretty soon.

You can heimdall it just like you can heimdall the zImage for kernels for Samsung-derived ROMs. Not sure if you can use SGS Kernel Flasher - haven't tried that.
When the phone is in download mode:
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
I can't help you as far as Heimdall installations in Windows - I'm a Linux user.
Kernel Flasher Did Not work.......Bootlooped my phone in a never ending Voodoo lagfix install boot up.
So i was just wondering but how does CM9 have a kernal if we dont have an ICS kernal?

It is in the boot.img. So far all Infuse cm9 is based of jt or entropy branching off jt. If you want just the kernel, after you f flash the ROM, you can dump the kernel from bml 7 using dd commamd.
Jt recover ics is such a kernel. Check my thread for the heimdall packed.
Jscott also extracted entropies kernel and i packed into a heimdall 1 click also. I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Pm me if you want a shot at it.
I think having these kernel in a heimdall makes flashing and recovery from cm9 simple.
Dl mode. Flash. factory reset. And it's ready for cm9 ROM.

I've used your heimdal package of the ics kernel multiple times as I constantly brick my phone trying to port and have to go back to stock...I then flash the ics kernel and I'm back up and running ready for ics...I just wish I could only flash the kernel...always gotta go back to stock first...but with your heimdal I'm back up and running in no time

As for the kernel...as far as I know it isn't a full on ics kernel...it is a gingerbread kernel that has been heavily modified to run ics however it will not work with gingerbread any longer...
So its an ics kernel created from a gingerbread kernel...insane development going on there...got tons of respect for jt and entropy getting that done...

I don't think you need to go back to stock with system files that you will overwrite anyway.
Flash just the kernel. Wipe.
And flash the ics.
Maybe use entropy kernel flash then a jt kernel if you can't recover with only jt.

What do you mean by an entropy kernel flash then a jt? I've tried just flashing the jt one you have and no matter what rom I flash...when I hit that reboot button it will always boot back to recovery...
Anyways im back up and running in under 10 minutes...so its nothing to complain about...

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing but:
Let say you tried a port or build and got into a boot loop. Or lost recovery, you don't necessarily have to flash the whole stock package.
In my kernel root thread, post #3. Flash the Jt kernel in download mode. That should bring you n back to recovery from boot loop or lost recovery with the three finger combo.
I've noted that since Jt kernel has the cwm 5.xxx sometimes it doesn't do the trick. If that was the case, I would flash the entropy in download mode..post #2..in the uclb3 thread.
That will also give you cwm recovery without having to flash the whole stock base.
Boot into recovery, wipe and/or mount and you are set to flash the next experimental build. Just be sure to have a couple of different builds to test on your sdcard.
Once you flash what ever build or ROM, it had it's own kernel and system file to write over your current. In this case, it would not matter, as you are not working with a system file...only the recovery.
Edit: it would also make sense of you created a mg_lite ROM for debug if you needed to have the phone system. Make a ROM with minimal stuff. Turn off boot ani. Have only minimal apps..no email or gmail or bt fb or any crap that would allow down the boot and dalvik process. Only a few system files and libs are needed. That way you can save some time instead of going back to the whole stock process

Yes, all you need to do is download the stock verizon rom for this phone onto your computer and Odin back to stock using PDA. Only use the PDA section in Odin. If you didn't change kernels then you don't need to flash the kernel, because the kernel is already the stock one. You can use custom kernels on Synergy. I'm using a custom kernel on synergy 1.3. What I did was downloaded the verizon ez recovery app from the play store, give it root permissions when you open it. Included in that ex recovery is a few different recoveries including CWM and TWRP and invisibleks v2 kernel. You can flash a kernel using that program. You simply just select the kernel and hit flash and then reboot recovery. The only downside is that when you flash a kernel you lose your recovery. But since you have the easy recovery, you just flash a recovery and you'll get a recovery back. Its really simple and awesome! I'm using Imoseyons Lean kernel v12 and it allows over clocking to 1.9! And under locking as well. I'm getting phenomenal battery life.

It shouldn't matter if you have a flashed a custom Kernel. Just Odin the stock ROM
Also if you want to go completely back I believe you will also need to flash the stock recovery and possible the flash counter.

You would have known it wasnt just a kernel...but then again reading is fundamentally hard on xda.

You can't update to cm9 and stay on 5.0.
Unlike most samsung phones, we do not have a functional recovery partition.
Even though we do have a recovery partition, and you can flash the recovery.img there, the bootloader will not even notice it.
It will just boot the kernel with the kernel command line argument: bootmode=2
In this mode, a stage1 init has to check if we are booting to: recovery, low power mode (charging), or normal boot (possibly with ota upgrade).
So in a nut shell, you upgrade to cm9, you get whatever recovery comes with cm9.
If you want to flash another cm9/ics based rom after that, just flash it (factory reset/wipe data, of course!). No need to go back to 5.0 recovery.
If however, your IMEI is screwed up or you have a specific reason to go back to gingerbread, use the oneclick that eollie mentioned. Flash it twice to get bootloaders. And then you can go back to cm9 by just 'factory reset/wipe data' and flash cm9 or whatever ics rom you wish.

Please read some more and understand what one clicking means. You could have cwm 3.x.x.x and if you flash the heimdall one clicks it will change to the current cwm for bml.

Bali kernel is for Froyo (2.2) & you say you are on GB (2.3.6). So flashing it will cause a bootloop due to unexpected bootloaders. I suggest you either flash AntonX's basic with a twist or Bhundven's Blast kernel. Both of them are made for GB and have advanced CWM version where backup & restore work.
