my rezound is my primary device, but tablet-wise i currently have an ipad 2. this is my 1st tablet and only got it as i was bored with my alienware m11x & someone offered the ipad as a trade.
anyway, the only thing im really enjoying with the ipad are the 'cave' shooting games. i hate the whole itunes/istore setup & the fact that you cant just download media directly to the device from a browser, etc.
the only other tablets ive tinkered with were the xoom & galaxy tab. both seemed sluggish as hell and im assuming because of the gui.
i now have someone else offering a transformer + $$$ for my ipad2 and thinking of doing it. how is the battery life on the transformer? sometimes i have insomnia and may end up playing games on the ipad throughout the night & it'll still have plenty of battery in the morning.
The Transformer snaps through the user interface with grace and style. You probably won't find a sluggish moment with this tablet.
I can usually get 8-10 hours of battery life on the tablet, and with the dock charging the tablet (if you decide to buy the dock) you can get around 16 hours.
Beamed from my TF101 using Tapatalk HD
Each device has it's advantages and are both nice. I went with the transformer after coming very close to getting an iPad. They both have good battery life and are both pretty fast and smooth. The keyboard dock is what made up my mind for me. I had a laptop and a netbook and figured I could ditch the netbook going with the tf. Having the dock is really great even if you just use it for the extra battery life. I had the tf for about 5 months before getting the dock, waited for it to get down to $99 and it's more than that now.
Depending on what you really do with a tablet, the tf has great built in features like the HDMI out and USB ports (on the dock or an accessory) which are things you can do with an iPad but you have to buy accessories that are not cheap. I use HDMI out quite a bit, but if you don't plan on stuff like that then either one is great. Then it comes down to software. I had an iPod touch and really liked it, but once I got an Android phone, the touch got sold and I really didn't like iTunes all that much either.
If you really like your Rezound (great phone) you will really like the transformer also. Cheers.
There is no sluggishness with the Transformer, it's very nippy.
Android 4.0 is due any day now, which will make things even slicker.
Battery life will be about 3x what you get with the iPad, if you use the dock (and about 1.5x without the dock).
Is the owner offering it with a dock? If so, snap his arm off... that's a great deal. The iPad2 is about to go obsolete overnight with the launch of the iPad2s.
I'm also a Rezound owner and you'll love this tablet. It's as smooth as the Rezound, it's got amazing battery life, and the only thing I'm not used to, is the screen pixel density. I'm not used to actually seeing pixels because of the Rezound, lol, but that's not even a reason not to own it. It's just amazing how there's 720x1280 on this 4.3in screen, and barely 1280x800 on the 10.1in TF101. Anyways, a widespread defect is the light bleed, since it's an ips panel screen. Don't worry though, it's rare that anybody doesn't have that on their screen, and it won't be noticeable unless looking for it
Overall, it probably wouldn't be wise to not take that offer, you'll be amazed by this thing

Don't expect iPad 2 smoothness. Sometimes the TF is sluggish...sort of like a semi truck...it can get sluggish if the stars are not aligned. But once it's up to speed...unless you are looking to be picky...it gets the job done.
Just check for light bleed, creaking on the top left of the bezel, volume imbalance. I had to take mine back because of that. If it doesn't have those issues or they won't bother you then it should be fine.
wow you traded an m11x for it, that was a good deal for someone else...

Ok ok so I know one is a phone and one is a tablet, but...
I was planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus w/ICS when it comes out, then I thought to myself "well my current Vibrant is fine, I can put that money towards a Tablet and just keep using my Samsung Galaxy Vibrant as my phone."
What do you guys think? If you could only purchase one. Would you get a new Galaxy Nexus phone, or option 2 which is to just keep your current phone (Vibrant) and buy a Transformer 2 instead?
What are the pros and cons?
I should mention, I don't currently own any Tablet.
I too am having this dilemma, but I got a htc desire, so I'm more looking to upgrade my phone. I use my phone alot more and the transformer does almost everything I need it to, I personally am waiting til our transformer gets ics then I'd make up my mind.
'tis a difficult choice.
I had the Desire, and am up for renewal in January. The Desire died, so am back on my 'thickphone', an old, venerable SE K800i. I did think about getting a Desire S or similar as a replacement but it would only be three months and I'd be getting another phone through an upgrade.
Although not as fast as the Desire in terms of 3G performance, the K800i does tether to my son's Transformer so I have decided to go for the Transformer now, put up with bluetooth tethering while travelling and then get a new phone come the upgrade in 2012.
I have a Desire - I'm going to get a new phone, rather than an "upgraded" Transformer. Since the TF101 will get the ICS I don't look forward to the Prime, because by the time most apps will use quad-core, there will be a TF 3 The design looks awesome, but i won't get it because of that.
I have root on my TF1. No way would I take a chance of spending more money for a chance of being locked out of my device. My SGS2 arrives today
Im keeping the TF and getting the Galaxy Nexus. The TF does exactly what I want it to do and its going to get ICS so its only going to get better. I am rocking the original Evo so its getting longer in the tooth and wont be seeing the update.
I dont need any of the new hotness on the tablet (NFC, etc) I just really need it to run market apps and play videos, which it does well. The Office/PDF, etc stuff works fine and it plays my HD video (although ICS comes with APIs for GPU access so it should play better back video) so I dont really need an upgrade there.
But the phone comes with NFC, video chatting, the payment system, new widgets, etc. Its also a Google reference device so I know its going to be current for some time.

haha I also have a galaxy s, the captivate. prob would suggest getting the newer tablet as it will benefit you more than a phone.
---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:55 PM ----------
people are going to drool all over your new tablet, specially if you show them it in laptop form, and then magically pull the screen out. noobs' jaws dropped when I did that. I bet you they will never look at another ipad
Easy one for me, My phone is a wildfire so its getting upgraded and I'll wait for the next transformer, I don't see much that the TF2 would give me over the TF1 just now compared to upgrading the phone. Just trying to decide on the phone I want.

Same here. The TF doesn't feel the least bit dated yet, and the ICS update is supposedly a few weeks away. My Galaxy S (captivate) feels very dated, and the Nexus looks awesome, and likely will be awesome.
The transformer works awesome. Plays FPse PSx games at full speed via Bluetooth DualShock PS3 Controller and everything else.
It doesn't need an update and the Tegra 2 can hold its ground for a while.
I have a G2x on tmo and thinking about switching over to the Nexus through Verizon via work and get rid of my personal line to cut costs.
Probably sell my G2x and recoop some dough for the Nexus.
I'm in no rush.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
I say Galaxy Nexus. If you already have a Transformer (One), what is the point in getting the TF2? Quad core is nice, but do you really need it? Once ICS comes out on the TF, we'll have hardware accelerated graphics (or so the rumor has it) and graphics will perform a lot better. The TF2 is thinner I guess.
Also don't forget all the problems the Transformers had with defects. I would hope that Asus would have that all ironed out for the Transformer Prime, but I wouldn't count on it. If you have a close to perfect (or perfect) Transformer now, I just don't see a point in upgrading for a somewhat thinner tablet and four cores versus two cores.
I would say also remember that Asus has a new device called the Padfone which will probably be announce around the same time that the Prime is announced. If it is and it is a Tegra3 phone with the docking pad, I would be all over it. well there are certain things that Asus will have to provide with this Padfone hybrid and here are the following:
720p HD Super Amoled + screen
4G Connectivity
Tegra3 CPU/GPU
1GB Ram
16GB internal
SDCard slot
NFC
1.3/2.0MP front camera
5.0/8.0MP rear camera LED flash (hopefully with good sensor TF1 sensors suck)
HDMI/USB connector
Indicator light
If you already have a tablet I'd say get the Nexus
If you don't have a tablet I say get the prime and then wait till an amazon $0.01 sale where you can pick up the Nexus or get the nexus a lil latewhen the price drops

I Don't Currently Own Any Tablet.
I Do Not Currently Own Any Tablet.
I Do Not currently own transformer 1.
If you don't OWN a tablet... then.... I would buy a Tablet.
The Vibrant is still a decent phone.
What I would do is buy the Transformer 1 on sale once the TF2 is announced/released (fire sales to flush stock) which the Transformer 1 can be had for ~ $350 now. If you can find one for $250 or $300, thats a steal... then same the other $200-$250 toward the Nexus Prime on contract when it drops (or those .01 sales!)
Lot of desire owners gathered
I have a desire too and a transformer.I think the wisest is to get a galaxys nexus
I also have an HTC Desire lol
I have TF1 which is what, 6 months old now and still the best current android tablet (IMO obviously). The hardware is not out of date on TF1 - the software needs some tweaks. Like the stupid browsers lagging on text input or not playing 720p/1080p videos properly despite a dual core processor ?!!?!?!?!
ICS will give those tweaks to the TF1 and make it bang on what I bought it for. TF2 if you dont have a tablet will be future proof for ages due to ICS and quad core, plus good design and laptop replacement qualities.
TF2 could really start to replace a laptop, my TF1 already has for the vast majority of situations.
Its hard as you dont own a tablet to know what to reccomend. I think buying a 2nd hand or on sale TF1 when TF2 is released and then save up for the phone would be what I would do.
Padfone could be another option to get both phone and tablet in one integrated swoop.
Wait until TF2 comes out in a couple of weeks (Nov 9th) and then check the padfone details then decide.
That said my desire is beginning to feel a little old and slow now but like your vibrant for the vast majority of uses its fine - I do heavy work/shopping/vidoes on TF1 now anyway so the phone spec is less important for me.
OVERALL: Pick the tablet, it will be a bigger change to your life that a slightly faster/newer phone which still runs the same apps and works fundamentally the same - the tablet is a very different beast to a phone and will be more of an experience because of it
I'm leaning towards Galaxy Nexus, I have no clue why. lol
Such a hard decision.
I wish the price and carreirs for Nexus were annouced. Hope the Verizon exclusive is not too long.
Just had to post saying I got a Desire too
I'm quite confident that both my Transformer and Desire will get Ice Cream Sandwich within a month, so I've got stuff to look out for already
Hi, I am looking into getting myself an Android tablet next week and had my heart set on a Motorla Xoom, simply because the price (£279) appears to be the best value around for the spec of the tablet.
One thing that is starting to put me off is alot of people are telling me that the Xoom is 'really heavy'. Now i've read the weight compared to other tablets etc but it doesn't really tell me if the weight is a turn off.
I appreciate if you guys could comment on whether you find the weight of the Xoom to be a hindrance, do you worry about dropping it? is it uncomfortable to hold for browsing the net etc.
Where is the extra weight coming from? is there a bigger battery?
many thanks in advance, the alternate option i have at the same price level is the Galaxy Tab 8.9 which is at the opposite end weight wise, but lacking in storage/screen size etc.
cheers

Eh - I Love my Xoom, but in answer to your questions....
Yes, the Xoom could be considered "heavy" as compared to some other
tablets.
Xoom - 708g
Galaxy tab 10.1 - 565g
Acer Iconia Tab A500 - 730g
I don't find it heavy but it feels solid for sure. Has mostly a sturdy aluminum body
Maybe not a one handed tablet but I for one appreciate its build quality - a big factor in me buying it.
Its definitely a bit heavy, can't deny it. But i love it and it doesnt put me off it. Plus for that price its by far the best option
Yes it's heavy but I personally like that feel from my units.
The only knock on the weight is you will find it difficult to prop it up without some sort of stand or case that supports it.
But considering it is a google experience device, has an unlocked bootloader and is now cheap as far as tablets go I wold buy another one today if I was buying my first tablet!
The only knock I have with the unit has nothing to do with the unit at all!
I just can't for the life of me understand why the HD Speaker dock has every port but a USB on it! Has Power, and HDMI but no USB sync port!
The only other unit I have reccomended was the Transformer series for those who want the laptop experience but the ability to have the tab experience as well!
Asus did a good job on that design but the locked bootloader was a no go for me!
Other less savy folks it's fine but since your posting on XDA I would assme you want to make it into a coffee maker as well! LOL
thanks very much for the replies!
it seems that owners of the Xoom don't have buyers remorse then with regards to the weight of the product , which is the only drawback i could see.
I also thought it very strange that the dock(s) dont have usb connections, strange decision that from Moto, especially since it appears the dock uses the micro usb port when its lining up.
All in all the Xoom appears to be more than value for money, and with the standard dock (£18! on amazon) and keyboard (£20) at such low prices aswell, i could see them combining to replace my laptop.
thanks again, be on the lookout for a Xoom n00b hitting the forum next weekend
its not heavy for me at all.my sister has a galaxy tab 10.1 and it has very small difference in weight.i love its thickness and weight.
I was in the same boat this tablet is awesome and I am glad I got it good build quality and as easy to play with as my galaxy nexus. I wish the front facing camera quality was a little better other than that this is an amazing tablet and I love it. Battery life is good too even clocked at 1.5 GHZ
Heavy...come on...don't be like the others be a real man!
My weakling of a wife has no complaints...humans adapt...

I will say the device is heavy but I always have it on my lap etc so it doesn't bother me. You will get use to it.
Now I will also add in that this is by far the best tablet to own period. I've rooted/rom'd a lot of different android tablets for co-workers and I can say that NONE have as good of a development community as the Xoom does. Fast roms, kernels, backtrack 5, ubuntu, even the USB "camera" adapter can be used for a keyboard/mouse/USB WiFi, USB thumb drives etc. Basically anything with a USB port will run on this thing.
Xoom for life dude.
I also had the same questions before I got my xoom... It's a great device to have and very customizable.
I'm convinced, picking mine up next Saturday
Thanks everyone.

Yep they are good! - I thought I was a bit late getting one with all the new tablets coming out, but the Xoom does everything I want... as far as weight, it is a little heavy but it doesnt bother me... my mrs and my (almost) 3 year old son use it no problem without a grumble...
Still wondering wether to root it or not... not sure what it would actually gain me
thanks everyone, collected my Xoom from Argos today
great so far.
Should i have registered the same google account as my galaxy s? i didnt, i used a different one, but wondering if i should have used my main one.
thanks

Well, two days in and I've flashed the US from and been upgraded to ICS and I'm absolutely thrilled with the Xoom!
I need to find some good tablet apps though, and looks like I'll have to root it to get the BBC apps (should have realised that, lol)
I've not touched my Galaxy S since I got the Xoom.
For anyone reading later, I would say that, yes, the Xoom is on the heavy side, but the build quality and battery life easy make the trade off worth it. Still can't believe I only paid £279.
From a development point of view, the Xoom is second to none. I've had more fun developing on the Xoom than any other android device ever. Also, running ICS and a bleeding edge. 39 kernel, you have access to mobile technology nobody else has yet, such as WifiDirect. Truly, the xoom is at the forefront of android development, and Eos will continue to push the boundaries of Android reality.
Hmm sounds tempting

Hey All--I'm considering getting a Xoom off craigslist at a decent price, but I was hoping for some advice first:
What I really care about is having a device that runs well, that the screen is pretty good on, and that has great developer support.
I will most likely run AOKP on whatever I get (it's what I run on my galaxy nexus).
Is this the tablet for me? What are the benefits, and perhaps more importantly, what are the drawbacks that you see to the xoom?
Thanks!
I really hate the screen on this Xoom, my Samsung fascinates screen at half dim is easier to see out side than my Xoom at 100.
I got mine cheap online also and wish I would have just saved a bit more and got a galaxy tab. Prob will be upgrading to galaxy tab 2.
Before I go, I would like to add that this tablet is a pain to hold, I would prefer a screen that is a bit closer to square such as gal tab or ipad, this Xoom is like widescreen, it's also kinda heavy, I do like a bit of weight but without a case on it, the shell on this thing is very slippery.
Id go hold some different devices to make up your mind on if it's worth saving 100-200 bucks on something you intend to enjoy and use often for some time to come.

My only real complaint is battery life. I get about 8 -10 hours out of it continous use. Other complaint would be the backlight. If you plan on keeping it stock, there are better options. If you plan on rooting and roming it, there is allot of developmental support that will completely transform it. Add in hdmi port and expandable storage via external sd card slot(xoom can accept the sandisk 64gb micro.)
It really matters, what you will be doing with it, and where will you will be using it.. If out doors during day hours allot, check out other options before getting the xoom. Its glare can be bad and the backlight will barely make up for it... out in the sun, just about forget about it. If it will be indoors allot overcast days or in the shade, and/or very media oriented, the xoom is excellent. Someone else will have to comment on gaming.
If you like to use allot of apps, or a windows like experience of multiple apps or screens at once, there is the cornerstone rom(there is a youtube video.)
I personally am very happy with my xoom, I like music and love movies, price aside(xoom verizon lte, no contract) Resolution is good, tegra2 does everything I ask, on the eos nightly rom there are great customizing options. I have no reason at all to look for some thing else.... if i get sick with what I got, I just switch a rom, the only thing that stays the same is the case.
As for weight, yeah its a little heavier and thicker than most, do a couple pushups once in a while, you'll be fine
I am seriously considering the upgrade from the Prime to the Infinity. Its going to cost me $125-150, but already have the dock so that will make things less painful.
Is the screen, slightly faster processor, and overall experience worth the jump?
Thanks for the feedback.
I've found my Infinity to be much more stable. My Prime was incredibly unstable and had very bad screen corruption and flickering on the later firmware, downgrading the firmware fixed that issue on the Prime though. The screen on the Infinity is very nice, but you probably won't notice the increased resolution except with text where it makes a very (to me) noticeable difference. The latest firmware update has seems to make multi-tasking smoother and given it a general sensation of being faster. I have a Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean makes everything very liquid smooth feeling so I have every expectation of Jelly Bean giving that same feel to the Infinity. The less tapered edge on the Infinity is actually very nice. It's more comfortable to hold and the micro sd card is completely inside the frame.
All said and done I think the Infinity is everything the Prime should have been. If you can upgrade for <$150 difference then go for it.
I did the upgrade so that I can compare my Ipad3 to the TF700T as well as wanting a functioning GPS radio. Speed has improved, stability has improved, screen has improved. All of my current applications work well. I have an issue of upgrading from a OTA but others do not so its my specific issue. I have been able to upgrade utilizing the file Asus posts on their service site for each update. As to my Ipad vs. TF700T the screens are for all practical purposes identical. Speed of all functions other than web browsing are identical (I have several applications that are the same function but for IOS or Android). Web browsing is not a tie my Ipad3 is more fluid than the TF700T. I expect that will even out with the release of Jelly Bean for the TF700T. I am waiting until that upgrade to see but if equal after Jelly Beans release then most likely my Ipad3 will be sent to Ebay to get some extra cash for the next Asus tablet release in 2013!

Thanks for the feedback. My prime has been rock solid, other than the app stutter / bluetooth issues that most have experienced. I normally upgrade every 18-24 months. Trying to justify the 7 month upgrade here. Thanks.

Glad to here the positive experience when compared to the ipad.
I too upgraded for EUR 105,- and it's worth every cent!
The screen is to much better and sharper. Reading forums in portrait mode is no problem now. On the prime it often got to crappy to read and I had to zoom in.
Furthermore it feels faster and it's definitely more stable. Finally no more Wifi issues and SD card won't eject anymore.
Also HDMI port is better designed.
Just upgrade

I upgraded and received my Infinity yesterday. Overall, it is a much nicer tablet. I really think this is what the prime should have been when it launched. I have much better wifi and GPS reception, and the screen is much nicer to look at. Another thing that most people aren't mentioning is that the SD card actually fits in the tablet now!
That being said, I'm still having problems (even after the .26 update) running ShadowGun. The game works fine it I've just rebooted the tablet, but after several applications have been launched, I can't get past the first shot or two before the game freezes. You can still hear the game playing in the background, but the screen bounces back and forth between 2 frames. Maybe someone has a fix?
Anyway, yes, I am happy coming from the Prime.

I never owned a Prime (cancelled pre-order) so can't compare the two but from all the negative reports from the users, I can definitely say that the 700 is the most worthy successor to the 101. This is my gaming tablet and with just a few exceptions will be loaded with nothing but Tegra 3 games and full HD apps. The speed and resolution of the 700 is just right for 1080p movies, it plays the streamed .mkv files like it was coming from the sdcard! So smooth and lag free.
No way the Prime's 1280x800 can match the 700's display, no contest there but of course there will be an additional power drain to contend with so power regulation is a must.
Glad I switched
I exchanged and updated my 201 for 700 this week. Other than having an issue doing and OTA update (which is a serial number issue again with ASUS! I was able to update manually with no problem) I am very happy I did so. In the last 48 hours I have not had any issues, which I always did with prime. I use mine for work and play although I do not really play intense games on the device. WIFI is tons better and GPS is rock solid. I did compare my screen with my daughters ipad 3 and even she was impressed with the quality. She is an apple fanatic but even she sees where being locked down in the apple OS world has its limitations as compared to android. Glad she learned something in college!

I exchanged and updated my 201 for 700 this week. Other than having an issue doing and OTA update (which is a serial number issue again with ASUS! I was able to update manually with no problem) I am very happy I did so. In the last 48 hours I have not had any issues, which I always did with prime. good deal. first time i wish i bought something from BB...could have upgraded for free. thanks for the feedback.
well thanks, thats all the convincing i needed. ordered an infinity about 20 mins ago.
Thanks all!! I look forward to joining the group!!
PS-anyone need a very lightly used prime? HA!
I finally pulled the trigger and sold my Prime for the Infinity on Craigslist today. Went to Best Buy hoping to find tf700 with no luck. Fortunately for me the employee I was speaking to was very friendly and found one available at one of the other bb locations 23 miles away! Though a display model I still wanted it. I purchased it ahead of time and drove 23 miles to pick it up. When I got there. They took it off the display and showed me the scratch marks on the back plate and the slab of adhesive they used to keep the tablet connected that they couldn't peel away. Then I noticed that the label says tf201!!!! Mother [email protected]#ker!! The employee that said that they had one available mistakenly thought that that was the tf700 because it was so similar!!! The employee explained it to me and apologized. I said I drove for 45 mins to get here and was assured that you guys had the tf700!!! I was very upset. The guy was scared and looked around... finally he found one in the store!!! It was reserved for someone else that paid online. I ended up with a new tf700 and not a display model!!! Lol Apparently the person that ordered online had cancelled his order after checking the system and I was very fortunate to come out of BB with a brand new tf700!! So far loving the new toy.

Once my Infinity arrives, giving my Prime to a close family member, rooted with Androwook and chock full of my paid apps.
Thanks for the thread, sounds like it'll be a redeeming (mostly?) upgrade! Now for those roms...

I exchanged my C1 Prime at Best Buy which GPS was dead when I bought it and ended up with a C7 Infinity. Wifi/BT/GPS were great, however vibration, haptic feedback was dead out of the box. Attempted trying to toggle the settings but still nothing on power up/down, etc. It also couldn't find the OTA when I tried to update and I had to install .26 from my microsd which I take it is this issue here.
Took it back yesterday. Pretty bummed since my major issue with 201 was wifi/BT problems using my headset and music/netflix but it seemed good on the 700. Overall it seemed better than the Prime but that's not saying much .. Asus still has some pretty bad QC in my opinion
I've had my Infinity for a week now since I got my prime refunded. To echo a previous comment in this thread, this is what the prime should have been and what I expected it to be. Everything just works and the screen is absolutely beautiful. My prime never got a GPS lock, and running Bluetooth to my Thunderbolt for Tablet Talk would make my internet slow so an unusable crawl on the Prime. Here on the infinity I can stream music while browsing the web or XDA and texting. Used it successfully a few times for navigation while tethered; got a GPS lock nearly as fast as my phone locks. Plus it fits more snugly in my 201 dock than my Prime did. My only gripe is that the battery has not been quite as epic as my Prime, but it has been more than sufficient for daily use.

I'm sure you're already aware, but if not...that if you purchased your Prime tablet from Best Buy you can actually exchange it for an Infinity by way of One year manufacturer warranty.

How is internet browsing faster? Thats my problem with the prime sluggish.
LOVE IT
This is what I was expecting when I bought Prime. GPS and Wi-Fi work great. Screen crisp and clear. Camera takes really good pics. Had 2 primes, both had terrible picture quality. Gone into settings a few times and did update check, won't show one. No biggie, I'll d-load and push. Rooted fine.
Only complaint is, battery doesn't last as long as primes did.
Overall, very pleased. Especially since I had best buy damage warranty and they gave me Infinity free.
This is what the prime should have been! WFI,GPS, works. Had it for 24hrs, so far so good
I never really had problems with my prime (except bad GPS and pixels), but I exchanged it anyways for an infinity. I have to say the infinity is really what the prime should have been, the screen resolution is amazing, it's fast, GPS works and I even notice better wifi connections. I had to root the prime and tweak the hell out of it to get it to perform anywhere near what the infinity does right out of the box. Oh and its the first asus tablet I've had the does not have dead pixels.
Lemme put this in some perspective:
I've had the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a while now, it is actually one of the Google I/O Limited Edition ones so that meant I had a pure Honeycomb experience. That's what I loved most about it, and was excited about the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade expecting it to be pure ICS. Low and behold, i've been TouchWiz'd.
Now, I don't HATE it, but I don't LOVE it either, and have loved the 1920x1200 screen since I read about it, and love the dock option also. The question is, is it really worth the hassle of selling this if i'm going to get a pretty similar experience on the TF700?
Should I just hold on to this and run a custom ROM with the hopes of Jellybean in the near future (Samsung takes forever I know, not really the point) or should I just pull the trigger and sell it for a TF700?

Was in the same place as you - had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a long time. Decided to take the plunge and haven't looked back since. Infinity is in a completely different league than the GTab. After 24 hours with the Infinity, I sold the Samsung.
Finally, a comparrision thread that isnt pure troll sludge! I was beginning to think these had gone extinct. But anyways...
You're the one who will have to make that call man, but there are plenty of advantages and this tablet is getting better everyday. I'm sure the ROM scene will explode in due time as it does with every decent device for the Infinity just like JB will see it's debut on the Tab. If you have the expendable cash, why the hell not upgrade. The fact that your here looking into it means you either have nothing else to do or you are genuinly interested and wanting to try it out. So go pick one up at Best Buy and play with it in store and see what you think. If its a fit, then cash out and run home with your toy. If your still not sure, then hold off for a week and revisit. Good luck in the decision and I hope to see you as a regular.
PS GET THE TABLET!
The only tablet i'd consider, and i mean consider because if its features and not hardware is the Galaxy Note 10.1
Anything else is not even a question i should ask.
i've just upgraded from the gt 10.1, still keeping my 8.9 though:laugh:.
here's my my quick take -
the screen looks a whole lot better than the gt b/c of the resolution. and, if it's important to you, the screen gets darker and is just slightly brighter than the gt. it's got a warmer screen (though in the past there were mutiple mfg's of the tf and xoom screen so results may vary) and the screen is just a bit more reflective tha the gt.
of course the tablet is faster and smoother with tegra3. netflix runs horridly slow unless you force gpu accelleration. i have no clue why it suck so bad there. i couldn't say whether it's netflix's, nvidias, googles, or asus' fault as i don't have any ics/t3 devices to compare to.
the digitizer is easier to see in the glass of the infinity. i barely notice them in the gt, but see them all the time on the infinity. not really much of an issue though.
one thing you'll gain is manufacturer support. just a few months and asus already had an update and announced JB. samsung is just now rolling out ics with no interim patches since. if it wasn't for the xda dev's i'd give up totally on samsung devices.
downside is asus lack of qc. on day one my tf was perfect. day four and i'm getting the bleed and the clicky left side. now i can live with the bleed as the situations that make the bleed noticeable aren't very common in my normal usage. i only fear that it'll get worse like my other transformers did to where it did show even under the lowest settings.
most likely i'll sell the gt and keep the asus. it'll only be around for a year so i think if any issues show up i can deal with them for that long... as long as it doesn't die... or if the galaxy note doesn't tempt me.
Thanks for the feedback folks, this is all good stuff.
There are a few factors to consider:
1. I don't live in the US so I can't go to a B&M and even look at one. (living in Jamaica)
2. I'm gonna have to sell this here and i'll be using the cash from this to get it (tablet resale market is very good out here, have multiple offers of $500 for it)
3. My priorities are as close to pure android experience as possible and the higher resolution screen
Then i'm gonna have to find someone to bring it to Jamaica for me because customs would kill me shipping direct! I'd be looking at probably around $400 on taxes alone!
Anyhow, thanks for the feedback guys. I think i'm gonna go for it.
