[Q] nachoroot suddenly fails with same firmware - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At first nachoroot rooting worked fine on my ASUS eee pad transformer tf101 with a B50xxxx serial with firmware 8.6.5.21(WW) and I installed CWM and made a full system backup with it.
As a test I used NVflash (APX mode) together with firmware 8.6.5.13(WW) and that worked but it erased CWM.
I let it auto update (OTA) to 8.6.5.21 again but now it refuses to do the nachoroot so I can't install CWM and can't restore my backup
I'm getting the 'cannot create /data/local.prop: permission denied ...' error
EITHER I'd need firmware 8.6.5.19 so I can use Razorclaw one-click-root. Does anyone have that for me ? OR how could I restore CWM with NVflash ? Any help is appreciated !

Look here, it show how to get 8.6.6.19 to use RazorClaw

Probably easier if you root with this method and flash CWM recovery

You need to make sure asussync is up and running and synced before you can do anything. Just keep pressing try again.

THANKS ! It updated fine and I could then use the Razorclaw tool to get root and then install CWM and then restore my backup.
I had been googling for 8.6.5.19 maybe that is why I couldnt find it. There has only been a 8.6.6.19 (3G version) ?

future of rooting access for B80+

I just got a new TF101 with Serial # B90, and currently using HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816 ( maybe be able to upgrade to 8.6.5.13 using the download from Asus' site, or OTA upgrade to some version I don't know) , since Razorclaw is not working for some B80 and beyond, and now that the Transformer Prime has come out, and no news from Razorclaw about rooting B80+ since early Oct, I wonder if they have given up and move up to the Prime? I'm thinking if I can't root it at all, I may just return it to the store.
and I have read some other threads, and some people saying that they have rooted their B90, is there another rooting method that I'm unaware of?

Go to this link and follow my instructions to update to 8.6.6.19 and then use razorclaw
Where should I put the files (ep101_sdupdate.zip and WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip)? Simply drop them in the internal SD? Have I to create a new folder?

i have a b80 rooted with razorclaw...you have to get to 8.6.5.19 for tf101 or 8.6.6.19 for tf101g if you have anyother firmware you wont be able to root with razorclaw. the firmware files are out there. iin your case you will have to update to the 8.6.5.13 first then work your way thru the updates after that to get to .19 im pretty sure thats the only way. correct me if im wrong guys. just dont update ota from asus the 8.6.5.21 update that may be pushed to your device while your updating.
the pose has the file 8.6.6.19, 8.6.6.x is for tf101g, isn't it?
Yes it is, however if you flash it as EP101_SDUPDATE your tab will accept it, then you root with razorclaw, install CWM, then you can flash a custom rom
my tf101 accepted it without renaming - just extracted the zip from within the zip to the root of micro sd card if that makes sense.

oh I see, does it mean that after I upgrade to 8.6.5.13 and then to 8.6.6.19, after I root it with razorclaw, I can use CWM to backup the Asus ROM, and than flash a custom ROM, and able to recover to the Asus ROM using CWM shall I need the warranty?
Yes, adding root and the clockwork really opens up quite a few options

[Q] Downgraded from 8.6.5.21 to 8.6.6.19. How to go back to 8.6.5.21?

Hi all
I have got the OTA update that brought me to 8.6.5.21 from the 8.6.5.19 rooted.
So I decided to follow the downgrade-fix to 8.6.6.19
I live in Italy, so I use the WW version.
Is there a way to go back to the 8.6.5.21 stock rom and root with Nachoroot?
Thanks
Vittorio
PS: What are the differences between the 8.6.5.21 and 8.6.6.19 ?

8.6.6.19 is for the 3G Transformer. Don't know the real difference.
If you install CWM and find a 8.6.5.21 rom it should be possible I think.
Don't know if you can install 8.6.5.21 the rom from the Asus site with CWM.
There are more threads on XDA to go back to stock.
Thanks for your reply.
I actually have wifi-only Transformer, so I installed the 3G version, but it works fine.
I am really new to this forum, can you suggest me a thread to look at to install CWM (I don't think I have already installed, I just have rooted) and to install the stock rom.
My english is not so good, I try to use Google translate...
Thanks

I have on the SD card the zip containing the stock rom that I downloaded from http://bellybuttonporn.com/android/transformer/
Any suggestion?
How did you downgrade? I'm having problems with .21 and deep sleep.
Finally I found a tutorial, in italian.
It uses a repacked ww Asus stock firmware, 8.2.3.13, and a stock Asus recovery image.
After getting the stock 8.2.3.13 I just upgraded thru the OTA update.
Now I am with 8.6.5.21 and just rooted using the Nachoroot guide.
And using Titanium Backup to restore all my applications and data...
Wonderful!!!
Thanks to everyone for your suggestion.

[Q] How to get CWM back onto eee pad when android doesn't boot ?

At the moment my eee pad tf101 works fine and I rooted it with nachoroot and installed ClockWorkMod (CWM) via Recoveryinstaller.apk
CWM's nandroid backup works like a charm but since its also installed onto the internal memory its vulnarable for wiping and my fear is that might one day my eee pad refuse to boot into android and also CWM is wiped (for example busybox deinstaller ruined my android once already) HOW do I reinstall CWM then ?
What other ways are there to install CWM ? Maybe via adb (usb debugging needs to be enabled and it can't when android refuses to boot) or via a zipfile on the external SD card ? could Odin do the trick ?
Also if the advise would be to first flash to a stock rom, HOW would I install that when neither CWM and android work ?

Your B50 is SBK v1.
do I need USB debugging mode to be ON with SBK v1 so nvflash will work ? cause enabling can afaik only be done from within android. Got a link to a good instruction site about using nvflash on the eee pad ?
You need to put it into APX mode.
Search for "NVFlash unbricking"
Here you can find how to backup with nvflash.
thanks !
In the mean time I found out how to restore a working ROM with NVflash (APX mode) and can then install CWM with Recoveryinstaller.apk and restore an earlier made nandroid backup.
I'm lucky the shop sold me an eee pad from old stock (mine's got the B50 serial) cause with newer TF101's the NVflash doesn't work. The link for the instructions is on another site so I don't know if I am allowed to post it here.

Any root that works on the stock new 9.2.1.24 WW?

Never rooted my TF101.. But now need root to be able to install an important app..
I have searched the web and didnt find any info for the new 9.2.1.24
So is there any working root?
Thanks
If you have a serial number that starts from earlier B70 and below, use BRK's root toolkit.
Do a search here; I've always used this to root my B60 regardless of the firmware version I have.
Where did you find it? At asus website I see us, cn and tw, but no ww.
Today a new .21 showed to de devices, but still no .24 ww.

Hmm.. I live in Swe.. And got .24
.24 is WW and they written about it in the ota changelog info
Here in France, I got the update late last friday.
I think it'll take some time to get widely distributed.
I'm interested in a rooting solution for my C10 though (never rooted this TF101 before), but I'm not stressed about that.
Nickola
I couldn't use any root exploit when I upgraded to .24. I bricked my device when I accidentally flashed the wrong kernel on my B70 (gotta clean out that MSD Card), so I got lucky when I was able to get into APX and flash .17, root it using ViperMod (using option number 1 for the tf201), then used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, upgraded to .21, used VOTA Rootkeeper again to reestablish root (and then used Titanium Backup to fix, as it indicated there was an error with the folder structure), then upgraded to .24 and again, used VOTA rootkeeper and Titanium backup to fix.

Have yoy tested this on the .24?
I used Vipermod to root, Voodoo to protect/restore root and Titanium backup for insurance. Everything worked just fine after .24 upgrade, no issues.
However, there's a noticeable increase in speed. Did anyone else have the same experience with rooted, stock units?

rom2sd1.zip has nothing to do with this... Why are you flashing it?
You flashed the Asus apps in recovery and went through the Aroma installer to select those you want?
Don't know if the installer gives you the option to save the installation log at the end. Look for it, flash again.
