[Q] How to get CWM back onto eee pad when android doesn't boot ? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At the moment my eee pad tf101 works fine and I rooted it with nachoroot and installed ClockWorkMod (CWM) via Recoveryinstaller.apk
CWM's nandroid backup works like a charm but since its also installed onto the internal memory its vulnarable for wiping and my fear is that might one day my eee pad refuse to boot into android and also CWM is wiped (for example busybox deinstaller ruined my android once already) HOW do I reinstall CWM then ?
What other ways are there to install CWM ? Maybe via adb (usb debugging needs to be enabled and it can't when android refuses to boot) or via a zipfile on the external SD card ? could Odin do the trick ?
Also if the advise would be to first flash to a stock rom, HOW would I install that when neither CWM and android work ?

If you have a TF with SBK v1 NVFlash is an option.

Your B50 is SBK v1.

do I need USB debugging mode to be ON with SBK v1 so nvflash will work ? cause enabling can afaik only be done from within android. Got a link to a good instruction site about using nvflash on the eee pad ?

You need to put it into APX mode.
Search for "NVFlash unbricking"

Here you can find how to backup with nvflash.

thanks !
In the mean time I found out how to restore a working ROM with NVflash (APX mode) and can then install CWM with Recoveryinstaller.apk and restore an earlier made nandroid backup.
I'm lucky the shop sold me an eee pad from old stock (mine's got the B50 serial) cause with newer TF101's the NVflash doesn't work. The link for the instructions is on another site so I don't know if I am allowed to post it here.

future of rooting access for B80+

I just got a new TF101 with Serial # B90, and currently using HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816 ( maybe be able to upgrade to 8.6.5.13 using the download from Asus' site, or OTA upgrade to some version I don't know) , since Razorclaw is not working for some B80 and beyond, and now that the Transformer Prime has come out, and no news from Razorclaw about rooting B80+ since early Oct, I wonder if they have given up and move up to the Prime? I'm thinking if I can't root it at all, I may just return it to the store.
and I have read some other threads, and some people saying that they have rooted their B90, is there another rooting method that I'm unaware of?

Go to this link and follow my instructions to update to 8.6.6.19 and then use razorclaw
Where should I put the files (ep101_sdupdate.zip and WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip)? Simply drop them in the internal SD? Have I to create a new folder?

i have a b80 rooted with razorclaw...you have to get to 8.6.5.19 for tf101 or 8.6.6.19 for tf101g if you have anyother firmware you wont be able to root with razorclaw. the firmware files are out there. iin your case you will have to update to the 8.6.5.13 first then work your way thru the updates after that to get to .19 im pretty sure thats the only way. correct me if im wrong guys. just dont update ota from asus the 8.6.5.21 update that may be pushed to your device while your updating.
the pose has the file 8.6.6.19, 8.6.6.x is for tf101g, isn't it?
Yes it is, however if you flash it as EP101_SDUPDATE your tab will accept it, then you root with razorclaw, install CWM, then you can flash a custom rom
my tf101 accepted it without renaming - just extracted the zip from within the zip to the root of micro sd card if that makes sense.

oh I see, does it mean that after I upgrade to 8.6.5.13 and then to 8.6.6.19, after I root it with razorclaw, I can use CWM to backup the Asus ROM, and than flash a custom ROM, and able to recover to the Asus ROM using CWM shall I need the warranty?
Yes, adding root and the clockwork really opens up quite a few options

[Q] nachoroot suddenly fails with same firmware

At first nachoroot rooting worked fine on my ASUS eee pad transformer tf101 with a B50xxxx serial with firmware 8.6.5.21(WW) and I installed CWM and made a full system backup with it.
As a test I used NVflash (APX mode) together with firmware 8.6.5.13(WW) and that worked but it erased CWM.
I let it auto update (OTA) to 8.6.5.21 again but now it refuses to do the nachoroot so I can't install CWM and can't restore my backup
I'm getting the 'cannot create /data/local.prop: permission denied ...' error
EITHER I'd need firmware 8.6.5.19 so I can use Razorclaw one-click-root. Does anyone have that for me ? OR how could I restore CWM with NVflash ? Any help is appreciated !
Look here, it show how to get 8.6.6.19 to use RazorClaw

Probably easier if you root with this method and flash CWM recovery

THANKS ! It updated fine and I could then use the Razorclaw tool to get root and then install CWM and then restore my backup.
I had been googling for 8.6.5.19 maybe that is why I couldnt find it. There has only been a 8.6.6.19 (3G version) ?

[Q] Tf101 stuck at eee pad logo

Please help. i think i had bricked my tf. i can access the cold boot menu. wipe data but still.. it cannot pass the eee pad logo. i cannot even see the asus logo (with rotating thingy)
i googled and searched but nobody ever had this problem. please help. i tried unroot but now it seems dead. saddddd~
* i root with razorclaw with stock rom.. and to unroot i used this method [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21160151&postcount=96] but now my asus wont boot!
my asus is b70kas114525
Can you give a little more information? what is the serial #?
What exactly were you doing to get to this state? Flash something?
i posted additional details above. thx for the concern
With a B70 you have a 50/50 chance of it having SBK v1.
Try NVFlash unbricking method.
put the stock rom on your micro sd card, boot into recovery mode and flash the stock rom again

If you have the stock ROM file on your sd card and boot into stock recovery, it should see it and flash it by itself. Try that first to see if it work.

[Q] HELP unbricking my b70+ device please

Hi guys,
My eee pad bricked like 2 months ago and I tried really everything and the conclusion was just wait for ICS. So thats what I did
Now when ICS arrived for our devices I downloaded the original files from asus.com WW and US tried both. And copied first US version to my sd card(which is fat32) and named it EP101_SPUPDATE.zip (I bought my eee pad in the us, so I thought i need us version then) And yes I copied them to the root of my SD-card. so when I booted up with volume button down I saw the recovery text and pressed vol-up and entered recovery kernel. I see a android guy with a progressbar underhim and then it jumps to an android guy(green) with an white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark inside above the android man. and then nothing happens:S (also tried this with the WW update) So my question is what to do what to do
Am I doing something wrong? or is there something else I can do?
P.S. I tried NvFlash alrdy. (didn't work neither) cold-booting doesn't work howver wipe-date in recovery does work!. And my device got bricked when went from revolver rom to custom and forgot to reboot when I flashed the stock asus eee pad rom.
p.s.
when I boot into recovery i see this line;
US-EPAD-8.6.5.19-20111107. Not sure what it means
YOURS,
Kasper
Did you extract the zip file from within the file you download or did you just leave it as is?
Also try renaming the file to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip instead of EP101_SPUPDATE.zip
Do you still have CWM Recovery installed or did you go back to stock recovery?
If you are using CWM Recovery still I think you can just use that to flash the update.
Also, users running 8.6.5.19 and they try to update to ICS are not having any luck, but if they do a manual update to 8.6.5.21 that works, then they can update to ICS. It appears that ICS will only want to update from 8.6.5.21.

First you have to determined if you have a device that is compatible with NVFlash.
Check your serial number to see what it start with. B60 and previous you'll be OK.
Some B7O will work, B8O and newer will not work with NVFlash.

Since you are on older version of android and havent updated to latest OTA release try universal root toolkilt v7.. follow the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
You need to extract the asus folder and copy that as well as putting the EP101_SDUPDATE.zip in the root of your MicroSD.
You could have a bad download. Try downloading again.

[Q] Cannot flash any rom

Hi all, it's my first post here.
I have TF101G (B90, WW). I tried to flash CyanogenMod 10, but something went wrong. Now I'm without any rom, and I cannot flash something else (even Asus stock rom), because of Status 7 error. I have TWRP 2.5. I can jump between twrp 2.0, twrp 2.3, cwm 3.2.0.1, cwm 5.8.1.8 and others, but upgrade or downgrade each recovery doesn't work. Still Status 7 error.
How to resolve this issue?

From what I have read, to fix a status 7 error you need a different (working) recovery, but that is not helping it seems. Not sure what to tell you.
Have you tried flashing a new recovery using ADB (using dd command)?

EasyFlasher does not work with the TF101G as it is not SBK v1 or SBK v2. APX/NVFlash/Wheelie are not going to work.

It's all good. Easy to miss that sneaky letter.
So what is the way out from this situation? Only RMA?
That's all command during flashing Asus Rom:

E:Error is /sdcard/WW_epad-user-9.2.2.6.zip

Hi, I have the same issue. I have tried EasyFlasher 0.8.3 on Windows 8. The driver (...Naked... 0.72) was installed and the device shows in device manager. However if I run the "Flash" button. Then I see a command window flashing and then the success message. But nothing happens on the tablet.
You mentioned another SD card. Does that have affect the process. None of the steps mentioned anything about configuring an SD card

The sd card was an issue with TWRP after EasyFlasher completed.
Are you sure you have the proper SBK selected?

I have tried both SBK2 and SBK1. My serial starts with B90, So I selected the SBK2 initially. But from what I read in the forums, the TF101G cannot be flashed with EasyFlasher. Is that assumption correct?

That is correct. The TF101G has a different SBK than the TF101 and it is unknown.
If you want to root the TF101G, use PERI by Thing O Doom.
