My battery was draining really fast, so I looked at battery stats and there gallery was at the top, 47% battery usage. Freezing it seemed to fix the problem.

Yep, that's typical 3D Gallery. I use Quickpic instead.

+1 for quickpic I hate the stock gallery app anyways
Pin it to Win it.
What they said. If you want to verify that the drain is being caused by the gallery app you can freeze it with Titanium Backup (assuming you have the pro version). Then see if the drain persists. If it does then its not the gallery.

Kind of misleading. That means it was opened 47% of the time of that cycle not 47% of the battery. It the cycle is 1 hour it was opened 28.2 minutes. If you add all the % in the list it will be more than 100.

Hi all,
I have been facing a very high drain on my Inspire.
ROM:IceColdSandwich-8.1.AOKP
Kernel:2.6.35.14-LordmodUE-9.8.8-ICS-BFS
I even flashed KillerSLoth Scripthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305236 LordModUV-Lite
I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226016&highlight=battery+calibration but still my stats doesn't look promising.
From 12:13 to 12:31 i.e., in 10min i face a battery drain of 20%. Is it expected behavior or i am just facing it.
BTW,In that 10min i was playing a game named Death Rally.
please see the attached file of my current widget log
can anyone please suggest me of how to gain good battery life.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks in advance!!
The battery just sucks on the inspire period. Sorry to say.

hey sandy well a game like that will pull battery life I play a game called zombie smash and it pulls battery fast just cause the game, and games in generally but I would say best way to test your battery is just not play a game for a couple hours or w.e and see what it does. For me with a similar rom and kernel at 100% I use pandora or google music to play my songs for about an hour or so and with in that hour I would check facebook, send a text or even check xda and with all that my battery would drain about 10% but thats a lot of activity to drain so its damn good and when I leave for work ill listen to music with google music and be at work for 8 hrs and with some texting and facebook battery drains maybe 5-7% by the end of my day with all that activities I would have about aprox 75%
But,even on Idle hours i.e., from 22:00 to 07:00 the drop is from 82 to 64%.At this time the phone is just active on data network,is this reasonable..18% drop in 8 idle hours?

that's actually pretty decent. this phone has a very small battery in comparison to similar phones
Try [ROM][JULY 03][ICS 4.0.4] aospX 1.0.0-BR3 | IMM76L | Source | WIP
i had decent battery life with this ROM. i used to charge once a day.

Game play will drain battery. Its normal, it be different if you were losing that without using phone. Also try latest IceCold 8.2. Also as mentioned above our batteries suck.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
upgraded to IceColdSandwich - 8.2 - AOKP and played the same game again for 10min.Guess what?
This time the battery drain is just 4%
Very pleased,
I think this is the problem with stability of rom's why coz i used to play this game from many days. It's only the other day that i had worst battery life.
May be while on Inspire i shouldn't complain about battery life.
I also observerd that, while charging my device after 81% it suddenly jumps to 100%.Is this natural or i am only facing this problem?
If you don't believe me,pls see the log file.
Same thing happened to me on another rom, from 94% to 100%. It is odd but the drainage seemed normal so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Keep in mind there will come a time the battery will stop working, it's called aging.

I Had this Problem too (same rom)
I switched to Android Revolution HD. It has fixed the problem so far...later i will switch backk (maybe) to see if this fixed it.
usually you have to delete the old battery stats and go through a drain and charge cycle for a couple of days to fix it.
What i did is i bought 2 extra batteries off amazon and i always have 2 fully charged. My system works out great because i pretty much have double battery life

OK I'm on MIUI v4 now.
To fix your problem you have to go get a battery calibration app from Google play. Most of the apps will ring when you have really reached the actual 100% charge. Then press the calibrate button. Unplug. And done.

I was just curious what kind of idle battery life you guys are getting as mine is awful. In 6 hours overnight, mine drains 9% even after closing all applications before I went to sleep. Upon checking app history, the only significant entry is 29 seconds of cpu time to mail. Any idea what's going on here?
Mine doesn't drain near that quickly.
Did you leave any apps open? I generally close everything when leaving it overnight.

Yup, closed everything, but still drains that much. I did a diagnosis and my original battery life when I first got it was much better, but I'm not sure what changed to make it much worse.

Is there any way to check which apps are running in background. The only place that I can see is the lock screen apps section in pc settings under personalize.
I've seen a couple threads praising their s4s for how long the battery life and in one case how much it flatlines while it's idle.
Since I've had mine , I've noticed the opposite. Using it very casually throughout the day with some light texting it'll drain probably about 30-40% while doing very little of anything.
But the part that stands out the most is when my s4 is idle overnight , it'll drop about 17-20% while others have reported seeing very little loss.
Has anyone else expierenced poor battery life? Is this normal for my s4 to do?
The only features I have turned on are; Wifi, Sound, Mobile Data, and Sync.

Seems you have a run away app that is sucking your battery. If you are rooted, check out Better Battery Stats on xda. I get at most ~2% in an hour but normally its not even 1%.

Weird.. I don't think I have any apps that are running wild in the background. I'm not rooted atm though.
If it were a mystery app running in the background, would it be listed on the battery stats screen showing the % each program is taking up?

One of the problems I had when updating to my new S4 was the memory card. Going from the S3 to the S4 was not good. The S4 didnt like the memory card and was causing high Gallery cpu/battery usage. Reformating the card fixed that problem.
Now, my Galaxy S4 has the best life of any Android I have ever had. At the end of the day, it still has 40% battery remaining with an screen on time of around 4 hours.

I think you're aiming in the right direction here. That was one of my guesses was that sync is draining it fast.
Just checked what i had under accounts. The only ones that were syncing were Google (toggled off a few of the features i don't use so i only sync what i do use, drive , calender etc)
The only other one that was on was Samsung account which i just toggled off as well since I don't have any need for that to be synced up whatsoever.
The only other apps I can think of that actively try to sync are my gmail and facebook. I'm not sure how to view the frequency for gmail to sync, but facebook is set up to check every hour.

Yeah I have more accounts than that and I see 4+ he's of screen time a day with 30-40 percent left at the end of the day. I would try formating your sd card as stated above as that is also a known problem

I don't have a sd card inserted
Here is mine on little usage. About a good 2-3 hours of screentime, everything turned on, max brightness, and live wallpaper...
I also had a 64GB MicroSD from my Galaxy S II that I did not format.
From the screenshot, the MediaServer is from the live wallpaper, and Maps -> almost every location setting in maps setting is checked... which will change soon... :good:
FWIW, GSMArena did a new battery test for the i9505 after the recent OTA update:

Is there a free app that is good for checking out the stats. Looks like the Better Barry Stats is paid.
Yea just checked bbs and it showed that any smart screen feature turned on caused wakelocks 7 hours straight while I was sleeping. disabled and Now I barely get battery drain and my phone goes into deep sleep. Sucks cuz I liked using smart screen features.
I'm getting itty good results I think? Formatted memory card installed.

Look on XDA, its free.
Also after the OTA update my battery life is about 2x worse. Before I would lose 1% overnight and now i lose about 3%. Before I could get 4hrs screen on time with 20hrs standby, and now I am at 35% with 10 hours standby and 2hrs 6min on screen on.
Going to factory reset tonight.
I have only slightly better battery life than my rooted inspire 4g with a 1230 mah battery....
I cant WAIT for the custom roms and developers tweaking these phones...there is soo much potential for this device!

Anyone know of a way to fix this? I already wiped battery stats.

No battery stats app is working right now. BBS, Wakelock detector, GSAM... must be a 4.4 thing.

There is a beta for BBS in the app section of the forum that is working.
There appears to be some kind of battery drainage issue that a reboot fixes. I was losing 6% an hour and the phone was in it's holster. 98.5% deep sleep. Reboot stopped it. I checked the uptime before I rebooted, 35 hours.
I have had no a across multiple devices. That's usually the first thing that I download but on my s8 plus it kills the battery drastically. I have never had this issue on a NJ y other devices. Is this happening to anyone else. I went from my battery lasting me 8hrs with a lot of usage to 5hrs with the same usage.
