Nova is killing my battery - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I have had no a across multiple devices. That's usually the first thing that I download but on my s8 plus it kills the battery drastically. I have never had this issue on a NJ y other devices. Is this happening to anyone else. I went from my battery lasting me 8hrs with a lot of usage to 5hrs with the same usage.

might be the battery big everyone is talking about

How did you establish it's Nova launcher draining the battery? Is itd coming up on top in the Battery Usage?

Anyone having crappy battery life with ICS?

Just curious is it just me or does the Skyrocket have ****tier battery life running on ICS compared to it running on Gingerbread? Anyone else having battery problems. I've been running ICS on my I727r for 2 days now and the battery life is very questionable. Probably a battery stat reset will work :S

I've found my battery life better. I haven't put down my phone since, and the battery life is on par with GB with my phone in deep sleep in my pocket. Lol
I did do a battery stat wipe and drained it and recharged it to full.

Yeah, my battery went out pretty damn quick yesterday, but that could be because I've been fussing with my phone more than normal.
The first day of using ics my battery life was okay. The second day my battery life sucked. Why? Because I set up Facebook. Battery manager showed 10% use and I hadn't even checked it. Its the bloat!

Same, my i727r battery life is horrible since i flashed ICS.
I have noticed that my android system is pulling a lot of juice compared to GB. I made some changes today like freeze all the bloat + installed UCLC4 modem. And wiped battery stats + complete drain and discharge of the battery. Lets see if it get better after a few cycles.
My battery seems a lot better! Way way way better. 25 minutes of web and its still full!

Battery has been much better for me with ICS.
Freezing tons of bloat helps..
My battery life has been horrible on ICS but when I look at the battery thing, Face Unlock used 35% of my batter (when my batter was 5% left) o-o it takes THAT much?
My battery life is absolutely amazing with ICS.
I have the stock rom debloated completely, and a lot of junk is disabled. Coupled with turning off auto brightness and leaving data off when i don't use it, the battery just chugs along.
This morning I got in my car at 7 AM, started playing music full blast through the stereo for an hour. Got to class, played some temple run, approximately a half hour worth. 30 texts or so, one 1 minute phone call. (data was off the entire time, it keeps facebook from butting in from behind) My battery has literally only gone down 10%, and it's 1 PM
I'm in love.
Seems fine here, I usually have it plugged in but today am testing it without. The couple charge blips are from when I had to get some files off of it.
I froze a bunch of the AT&T bloatware, have had Wi-fi, BT, GPS enabled the entire time. Moderate/light use... I've attached some screens.
I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567817 with the flashable ICS modem.
My battery has been horrible but it's only been a day for me and my signal has been fluctuating a lot on day one. It's stabilized now so we'll see after a few days of use. But right now it is horrible.
It seems mine is doing worse.
But I have been adding a lot of stuff since this is my first time rooting.
I am about to get a battery depleted(at 12% right now) and reset the battery statistics and install the OEM battery.

I thought there was a lot of debating over deleting the battery stats, i remember an article from a google programmer saying that it actually decreases battery performance...i personally stopped doing it a year ago and noticed a better batter experience, most of the time bad battery comes from a bad flash or apps that run in the backround and use location services
My battery life was horrible with ICS so im back to GB. At work with phone in pocket for 2hrs and was already down to 75% off killing battery and charging it fully next day. When I got home after 8hrs of work already at 50% and thats when its in sleep mode. Using it I would drain 1% every couple minutes definitly bloat. Might try new debloated ones but kinda skeptical since GB gives me amazing battery life.
Once the kernel source drops custom kernels will make all you guys stop crying your all used to optimized stuff not samsucks stuff lol give it time

Well condiering I have never reset them and did this first and only flash of the ICS leak, I'm hoping it helps out. We'll see what happens.
I have Juicedefender turning everything off while sleeping(set widgetlocker to deinied so when locked, widget locker stays active to be ready, and juicedefender see's that and turns off data)
On my 2100mAh nexus battery I barely got over a day(was getting 36-40 hours on GB)
Either way, I have two batteries so I'll deal with it until either an official ICS release or a new rom with better battery performance comes around.
I also have the nexus battery. Def have less battery life with this version of ics .
It could be the algorithm the use. At the start of the day is slowly draws down. As the day goes on it seems to drain faster

Actually, I have been having the Best battery life to date. I will post my list of APK's that I removed. I don't do FB or anything like that, so not sure if that is affecting it. Also, in a non LTE area. on the UCLA3 kernel, I was absolutely getting horrid battery life.
I live in an LTE area and I am getting almost a full day of use. Never got that with GB. I keep wanting to charge it, but I dont have to.
I do have Juice Defender running though, and it disables my data in 15 or 30 min intervals when the screen is locked. And I have SetCPU which limits the CPU to a max of 384 when the screen is locked.

Poor battery life

Hi there,
I've had my Google Nexus 5 for a few weeks now and the battery life on it seems to be very hit and miss. Sometimes it'll make it through the day ok and others it won't. Today I haven't really used my phone very much and the battery is already down to 17%! I've followed the suggestions in the forum but any ideas as to what is causing this? I don't have my email set to push (I just check it when I need to), Facebook isn't set to automatically get notifications, Google Now is off (and the location settings are set to preserve battery) but I'm puzzled as to how the battery life is so bad. In terms of brightness, it's set down to around 20%.
My old Samsung S3 was never this bad!
use GSAM or better battery stats to find what is keeping your phone awake.
There were no other battery threads to post this in?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Apologies, I should have posted this in another battery post. Do I have to be rooted to use better battery stats?
Your cellular signal looks low. Your phone could be spending a lot of time hunting for a tower. Try using WiFi. You can also try putting your phone into either airplane mode or turn cellular data off.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You don't need root for gsam, tho with root you get more useful stats.
just a guess, but I agree, your Poor signal is likely destroying your battery.
I'd have to agree with others based on the minimal amount of information provided. Low signal + Google services (Auto Sync, etc.) trying to use that low signal is going to eat through any phones battery no matter how big.
Ok so I used Greenify to clear out any apps that I thought could have been causing the battery drain but to no avail. I've also installed GSAM battery monitor and that reports my battery usage as 5% per hour. The funny thing is I've come from a Samsung S3 which only had a 2100mah battery and my Nexus 5 gets nowhere near that in terms of battery life.

apps do not make a difference if your signal is garbage.
based on the 2 screen shots you provided, your signal is crap and eating your battery.
Hi there,
Thank you for your reply. I'm working at a place where the signal is much better (at least 3 bars) and still the battery drain is high.

If you click phone radio in gsam... It shows you time looking for signal.
Anyway, its your signal. It doesn't show up as big usage on any app. you're signal is very poor. That's your issue.
Not a lot you can do. Except turn off data. Or use WiFi. Or even airplane mode.
That's about it.
Nothing will save your battery with data on with such a low signal.
Thank you all for your feedback. I'll try using the Wi-Fi and switching off data and see if that helps.

You have normal and low awake time....so almost the only other possibility is radio signal. Or a rogue and sneaky app. Is location services on? That's usually what rogue apps interact with to cause bad drain. Just if that's the case, android o/s is usually real high. The last thing is screen brightness...if its real bright it will drain fast.
Try WiFi.....then look at those other options I said.
Good luck! ?

Battery performance is shocking.... D=

So Hey, one of the main reasons i bought the Xperia Z3 was due to it's 2 day battery life, but for the last two months it's battery life has been horrible, I usually only get 1 day battery life with only around 2 hours on-screen time, Is the anyway to increase the battery life any of that

Find source of battery drain.
Example...apps with network access, camera access, games with ads on notification are constantly running. Pay attention on this.
And also, stupid "social networks" waste lot of battery and mobile data.

I have the same problem :/
Yesterday i had really good battery life, which lasted a day and a half, But today i fully charged it to 100% from 0% whilst the device was off the same procedure i did before, and i've already lost 10% within the space of an hour.
EDIT: I think GoLauncher is killing majority of my battery life. But it's probably the only Launcher i like.

A launcher, GoLauncher or otherwise, is responsible for an excessive battery consumption so ??? 3100 mAh battery power of z3 are not enough for a launcher ??? New news to me then!
Did you guys check if you have the "Mobile radio active" for long times on any of the other apps? I was suffering from this bug on Lollipop:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558
I was so desperate I reverted to KitKat and the battery life is back again. The stats on KitKat for today:
15h3m on battery
2h30m screentime
35m voice calls
And still 53% remaining.. When I was on lollipop I could just make it through the day. When I checked battery stats the screen wasn't the top consumer, usually some google app. Either Play Services or Gmail or Hangsouts, the apps would indicate hours and hours of "Mobile radio active". Check that link I included and see if your usage matches that issue.
Yes, mobile radio active is killing my battery when mobile network data is enabled.
I guess you nailed it, pakjebakmeel. This has been silently affecting my battery life. I used to get 5-6h SOT, now I barely even get 3h.
Numerous apps keep using "Mobile radio data" for a long time if not force stopped. This is ridiculous.
Only thing we can do is keep starring that issue hoping google will fix it.

Question Battery draining too fast.

I had this phone for about a week now. Got used to all the features. Did all the things needed to calm the draining issue. But no budge. I've drained from 85% protection battery on to 65% upon waking up. So much faster drain from my old s20 ultra. I'm sure there will be an update. The more we talk. We all should comment on Instagram comment section.

And do you think that doing a hard reset and setting it up as new can improve the battery?
I lost 5 or 6% overnight, and after last week's update that's been reduced to 3%
I have poor reception at work and even there I have way less drain now, so I'm a happy camper.
Sounds like some app(s) that are draining too much battery imo.
Would probably help if y'all uploaded screenshots of your battery graph. i'm getting 9.5 hours SOT at FHD resolution with Power set to Optimized. I also use the Samsung Browser and not the Battery Hog Google Chrome Browser.

You should check which apps comsume battery too much, then decide what to do next.
When i first started i weren't happy at all with the battery drain. It barely used to last with 5hrs or so of screen on time! (Light usage too)
After the first 4 days it got better. I used an app called Alliance Shield X, which i believe helped me a lot. Now I'm happy with my battery drain.
Edit: Also the Galaxy Max Hz App.

Alliance Shield X helps to disable packages, create firewall, adblock, etc...
Galaxy Max Hz allows you to adjust screen refresh rates (highs and lows), and a few other settings like lowest hz on screen off/Aod refresh rate
Instander is just some 3rd party Instagram with additional features, lol. I don't use it a lot so i can't say for certain, but looking at the stats, it seems to be a decent drain

Question Battery stats different system vs battery apps

Seeing incorrect stats in accubattery and gsam vs Galaxy system battery details. It's off by a good bit, like hours sometimes.
If you read this can you check that a few times throughout a day or two? No phone restarts or anything.
I'm even seeing minutes difference between different battery tracking apps. All set to never sleep.
Normal. I wouldn't get to caught up with it.
Total SOT time ie %per hr tells the story.
I use Accubattery for SOT overview, real time power usage and temp mostly.
Other ones to help track down power hogs.
My point is that Samsung's battery stats are telling me I'm getting 4 1/2 hours and accubattery is telling me 6 hours. That's weird at minimum, something's broken at worst case. Trying to figure out which it is.

Accubattery's history seems close enough.
Time it. This isn't rocket science critical though.
4.5 hr SOT with a 5002 mAh battery sucks. It's burning that battery up. Find the hogs and neutralize them. I would expect 10hrs SOT from that device and even that isn't all that good.

No one's getting that kind of battery life. Maybe if you turn everything off and turn down all the settings the phone came with. I usually get around 6 which is ok but not fantastic.
I was seeing this happen on multiple days so I was wondering if anyone else noticed it.

I'm not asking about how to get better battery life, I'm asking if people are seeing DIFFERENT STATS in the built in battery thing vs 3rd party apps that record it.
As an example, gsam is showing me almost a half hour more screen on time than accubattery is right now. Both apps set to never sleep. System is more in line with accubattery but it's still off by 15 minutes or so.

Accubattery is fairly accurate. SOT history is more important than actual individual app usage.
It shows the overall picture so you can spot an issue quickly. I use multiple battery monitors when I have a power usage problem. The exact amount is somewhat irrelevant compared to the gross amount; 1-2% isn't much compared to 10%.
The problem app is sometimes the parent app of it's dependency that seems to be the problem.
Google system apps come to mind...
