Battery performance is shocking.... D= - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So Hey, one of the main reasons i bought the Xperia Z3 was due to it's 2 day battery life, but for the last two months it's battery life has been horrible, I usually only get 1 day battery life with only around 2 hours on-screen time, Is the anyway to increase the battery life any of that

Find source of battery drain.
Example...apps with network access, camera access, games with ads on notification are constantly running. Pay attention on this.
And also, stupid "social networks" waste lot of battery and mobile data.

I have the same problem :/

Yesterday i had really good battery life, which lasted a day and a half, But today i fully charged it to 100% from 0% whilst the device was off the same procedure i did before, and i've already lost 10% within the space of an hour.
EDIT: I think GoLauncher is killing majority of my battery life. But it's probably the only Launcher i like.

A launcher, GoLauncher or otherwise, is responsible for an excessive battery consumption so ??? 3100 mAh battery power of z3 are not enough for a launcher ??? New news to me then!

Did you guys check if you have the "Mobile radio active" for long times on any of the other apps? I was suffering from this bug on Lollipop:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558
I was so desperate I reverted to KitKat and the battery life is back again. The stats on KitKat for today:
15h3m on battery
2h30m screentime
35m voice calls
And still 53% remaining.. When I was on lollipop I could just make it through the day. When I checked battery stats the screen wasn't the top consumer, usually some google app. Either Play Services or Gmail or Hangsouts, the apps would indicate hours and hours of "Mobile radio active". Check that link I included and see if your usage matches that issue.

Yes, mobile radio active is killing my battery when mobile network data is enabled.

I guess you nailed it, pakjebakmeel. This has been silently affecting my battery life. I used to get 5-6h SOT, now I barely even get 3h.
Numerous apps keep using "Mobile radio data" for a long time if not force stopped. This is ridiculous.

Only thing we can do is keep starring that issue hoping google will fix it.

annoying battery life issue

Hi folks,
since some days my battery drives me crazy...
Last week i flashed CM10 by nk111. Nice ROM, but my battery lasted only for some hours with normal usage. So I went back to MIUI...problem stayed.
Yesterday I flashed Jellytime and replaced the battery. The problem stayed as well. At 6 pm battery was full, I restored my apps with Titanium, used it a bit and when I was going to bed at 10 p.m. battery was 81%. Getting up at 5:30 this morning --> battery was 41%.
After the battery was full yesterday night I used display for maybe 10 minutes, why there are 36% battery usage by th display?
WTF happened to my system by flashing CM10 by nk111???
Any help is appreciated!
PS:
Baseband-Version: 20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.310
Kernel-Version: 3.0.50-g6ea80e4
First, do you have Google now on. It really drains the battery. If that doesn't help install better battery stats and let it go through a couple of cycles, it will help you pinpoint if any apps or wakelocks are draining your battery.

I don't use Google Now. I use the same apps withe the same intensity than in better battery times...
Could you please give me a recommendation for a battery stats tool?
Thanks!

Use the search, you'll find it in both xda and playstore it's called better battery stats

U have an app or something that is running when screen is off.
Find the app and del it.

app called carat could also help you find the battery sucking thing. It's a bit more simple than battery stats, you'll like it if you're not an expert.
it doesn't need to be a new app that is sucking power, it could be the poorly made update of some app that you're using for a long time.
I installed both apps.
But in both I can't find any kind of statistics about consumed power by apps or something similar, am I that stupid?

Bbs needs to run for at least a full battery cycle to give you a clear picture, if recommend running it for at least a day

I get max 24 hours battery life , sometimes 12 hours , so it's not something to worry. If you speak 2-3 hours and WiFi on another 2-3 hours that is the battery în my case 12 hours max.

IT IS something to worry, cause battery behaviour changed dramatically while I didn't change my usage of the phone.
40% battery loss over night should be a clear indication of abnormal behaviour.

you must run carot a day or two, than it will display some apps on the first page and the approximate battery life you get if you kill them. read the manual also..
Yesterday in the evening I realized a 96% entry in the Partial Wavelocks section - AndroidMediaScanner. I freezed it (I know where my pictures and music is located...), did a full load on the battery and for 4 hours the battery remained at 100%. I really thought the problem is solved...but in the morning...31%
But - the 'Media' entry in the android accu stats is gone, I think this is a partial success.
In the BBS app, there is no remarkable value - the biggest is 3,8%.
When I watch the graphs - WiFi and Awake is nearly completetly blue over the whole night (unfortunately, I can't take screenshots right now for any reason).
I'm a bit helpless right now, will charge the phone now and keep an eye on BBS the next hours/days.
androidmediascanner shouldn't be the bad guy, it's a system app that we all have. maybe your battery is the problem...

I inserted a new battery last week without any change. Don't think both batteries are broken.
The common way to solve this is to do a fresh install. Leave it for a day without any apps yo see if it is ROM related. See if the battery life improve. Install one app per day and monitor your phone awake period with screen on, it should be almost same.

Yesterday night I made a full wipe, installed Jellytime and Gapps and went to sleep...
In the morning --> 67%.
Very odd, normally this would probably indicating a defect battery, but it is new!
Maybe a hardware defect?
Maybe RRU Problem?
Hi,
I have a similar problem here. I was using the desire s for a long timne with stock rom (2.x android), a full battery was enough for ~2 days. Then I rooted the device and installed CM10 (NK111 alpha build).
2 things changed:
The battery is empty after 24h or less.
The wireless network is worse than before. This is my subjective impression but there are places at home or in the office where wifi worked before and stopped working.
I'm starting excessive tests (disabling everything, removing apps, running carat) during xmas holidays to find the reason.
My guess what it might be: to root the device I did a downgrade, including a radio downgrade. Now I run baseband 20.23.30.0802U_38.02.01.11 which is known as "Saga Test RUU" and has the lowest version number of the RRUs listed in the forum. I did not found anything about this in the forum or with google but maybe this is the reason.
My average battery stats with normal use (whole day, used the phone a few minutes):
~30% Display
~25% Wifi
~17% Mobile Standby
~5% Android Os
For comparison, my Motorola Defy has in a similar scenario ~5% Wifi and ~3% Mobile Standby

Great battery life with MM update

Hello ..
I am getting amazing battery life since I got 6.0 .. Before with lollipop I used to get around 5 hours on screen time. Amazingly though I hit 6.30 hours on the first day after update, and this with wireless, mobile data and Bluetooth on. And no data saving and screen on 70% which is amazing.
Good job Motorola
Excellent I would say
Excellent batt life with this new update very impressive how a software help the hardware to accomplish that task.
I replaced my STYLE and got a new one two days back. The old one would be dead even though it has 80%+ battery.
The current one is pretty good compared with the old unit. I got 4+ hours of SOT and I was on 4G and WiFi all the time. Was using it heavily for browsing and chat.

This is not bad at all. What I am saying is after MM update battery life increased about 1.5 hours extra SOT
Perhaps the update fixed something else? Looking at the MM update from L, there appears to be nothing besides Doze, which only works when the device is still and not used. I notice perhaps 15% better battery life if using the device sporadically during the day (medium use for me). With heavier use, I notice zero difference so far.
I was hoping some kernel adjustments were made, but the device spikes with heat about the same. I first thought it was less, but notice the same apps get the device very warm to hot (the GPU is over it's head with 1440p). Standby time is a lot better though, but only a significant improvement if lighter use though the day (so Doze can be a factor).
Usage is relative only to the user though
How do you get such great battery performance? I barely manage to get 3 hours SOT.
When the device is idle there's no drain, i only lose 2-3% overnight. But when the device is active the battery drains very quickly.
Tried a lot of battery saving stuff, greenify, powernap, and so on, but no luck.
I'm on MM stock rooted. Having a lot of apps installed. May this be the culprit?

If 20% brightness or less, all you do is web surf and a little Youtube, with good LTE signal or wifi and VERY little use of apps that force the GPU to push 1440p, you can get five hours. Everything is relative to the user. That's it.
Counting stock apps, I have 395 apps and 5GB free (64GB model). based on MM battery report, I have no apps that are background battery demons.

Are you talking just 1440p video in general or are you talking 1440p games?
I'm lucky if I get 2 hours of SoT. I can't tell if Android Wear is eating my battery or if it's Sprint, despite having a decent signal. Bluetooth and Cell Standby are chewing up the majority of my battery power. I think the network management is trying to shuffle my phone between their three frequencies and while at work, I can only get on the 1900MHz PCS band due to having to use a repeater.

Some games and apps run at 1440p and choke the GPU. They stand out by running very warm to hot and drain the battery more quickly.

Yes the apps do drain battery.
I uninstalled one particular email app that alone would drain 6% daily!
Anyway this time I got is without gaming. Mostly chatting and browsing and a lot of movies (vlc). I think that day I watched not less than 3-4 hours of continuous movies on the phone.
The only thing I did differently than before is removing unnecessary app permissions and notifications. Other than that I have done nothing. Like I said I do not try to save battery because I always have power source near by, but this 6.30 hours SOT i s awesome I tell you.
Based on my little experience with Android some apps will screw up the phone for no reason. First time I got the phone I got around 3 hours SOT with so many unneeded apps, and I did not know which app is draining my battery so I formatted the phone, and started installing apps one by one and watching the battery. And I managed to hit 4-5 hours with lollipop. Now with the update I got this and I was shocked.
Fully back to stock, unrooted, bootlocker relocked.
Upgraded to MM via OTA.
Installed all my apps via Play Store. Until now, i always restored my apps via TiBu, including data/settings.
I'm curious if my battery life will improve.
Will post the outcome, if any
Cheers!
A lot of the time my phone is just sitting on my desk. It used to say I would get around 1-2 days battery life from it sitting there doing nothing. After MM it says there is 8 days left. I have had it unplugged all day and even with some moderate use I am only at 95%. The doze mode really makes a big impact in stand by times!

I think it did do something to the apps. The way you can block apps from getting access to location or other services is pretty impressive. I love that as I hated that apps would have access to everything on my phone and I cannot do anything about it. Now I can and this particular feature made me love Android even more after I switched two months back.
Is there something wrong with me. I only get 2 to 2 1/2 hours battery tops and actually I've tried amplify (paid version), and power nap and they don't seem to help much. I have only got 3 hours once since I got this phone. Is it just AT&T maybe?
I'd like to mention something else. Probably not related at all, but ..
My old MXS was a faulty unit (as I mentioned in my previous post). Once I got a new replacement, I have not yet charged the phone using Turbo Charger. I am charging it with Mi Pad charger (non-turbo). Yes, it took about 2+ hours to go from 30 to 100%.
Old MXS was always charged with turbo charger and I was getting pretty bad SOT and the baterry would drain as fast as it would charge. Does it have to do something with using a normal vs turbo charger?
I stop pretty much all background services and apps not in use. The only active applications are firefox, whatsapp and VLC.
My screen is set to 50% brightness with adaptive brightness ON. Moto X display and attentive display is ON.
Non-root (planning to root soon) and Moto ROM.

what difference does it make if it is charged slowly or not??
It should not matter, if the battery is not keeping the power that means it is defective, nothing to do with slow or fast charging.

Nexus 5 battery drain - new battery, new ROM, still persists

My beloved red Nexus 5 starts acting up... the battery drains extremely fast. Some weeks ago, I could barely make it to 2pm without having to recharge after unplugging. So I got a new battery (directly from LG, so definitely a genuine part) which improved the situation, but didn't completely solve the problem. Additionally, I flashed a CM 13 CAF ROM (using myfluxi's kernel) onto the N5 - I enjoy it so far, but there was actually no further change converning battery life.
Right now, the phone is at 10% after being unplugged in the morning at 9am. Wifi, bluetooth, GPS and mobile data were constantly on, cell signal was mostly perfect, wifi was connected for about 3h, bluetooth was always connected to my Moto 360. Screen on-time is about 2h and I listened to music using GPM for about 2h. The battery settings do not indicate any app using up too much battery power - it shows the display at 15%, cell standby at 10% and then several apps.
What do you think - a Nexus 5 with a new battery should make it through a day, shouldn't it?
I remember my first Nexus 5, back in the days with a G watch, making it through a day without any problem with 15-20% left when I plugged it in before going to bed... because of that, I start to think if there might be a bad electronics part, like the display backlight or something on the mainboard, using up too much power without being noticed by the OS. Is that possible?
Thank you very much for your advice!
iYassin
Read and post in the battery life troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of this forum, it will help logically determine what is using your battery.
You have a lot running at once, so difficult at the moment to solve your issue. It's better to turn things on/off one by one to make logical conclusions whether it has any noticeable effect.
The best logical way to conclude if it is a hardware problem is to go fully sock no additional apps no root etc, see if it 'drains' by itself
If not hardware, then 99% of the time it is a bad app(s) keeping your phone awake
This is likely not the case, but have you checked the CPU settings? I've only encountered such a drain while using performance governor together with overclocking.
Same here
I have the same problem and I have been banging my head about it, I don't really use my phone for anything much else than a phone and I kept having at least 3 days of using it with no problems.
Now the phone barely lasts 2 days and even switches off in the middle of the night...

In the OP's case, his drain is likely caused by having GPS on all the time. That will absolutely devour battery life, so he could save himself some grief by turning it off until he than your phone turns off occasionally. First guess would be the power button going bad; that is generally the reason for needs it.
For you, who knows? You've not given any information, otherthat type of behavior

Yes, sorry about that I was a bit annoyed at the phone. I found and fixed the problem. Go to settings > apps > disable google fit > click yes when it gives you some notifications about how you'll lose data or stuff like that > and click force stop at the end for good measure.

Again same problem
Hi all,
Unfortunately I have better battery life but I am again losing a lot of battery.
I have a screenshot but I am unable to upload it sorry about that.
I use my phone mainly for calls roughly about 15 mins per day at the most in total ( not a lot at all I know) and I also have my bluetooth on at all times cause I have LG G Watch.
thing is that I have never had problems with the battery before. When I say before back in the day I still had my LG G Watch ( I have it for about 6-7 months) . Problem with the battery started roughly around 1 month.
Location is off, wi-fi is on on very rare occasions throughout the day when I need to check my e-mail and mobile data is the same. Navigation is used only if needed.
The real problem is that before I knew what was draining my batter now I have 79% of battery usage and I have 5 apps listed that drained each 1%
Android System 1%
Phone Idle 1%
Screen 1%
Google play services 1%
Android OS 1%
Where are the other 15 % ??
It is weird I really took pride in that phone and his battery life, I know that it is mainly because I don't use it as a regular used do i.e. gaming, facebook etc, but I still want to charge less than 1 time per 2 days or less
Thanks in advance

Battery Issues -> 32.2.A.0.224

I know I can look desperate, but this problem is driving me crazy.
My battery was good (but not perfect) in Android 6.0, but this latest update .224 is horrible! I have the same apps and the same use and with a maximum of 3 hours SoT! In one hour of normal use lose almost 10%!
Some people are having the same problem: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...ues-32-2-A-0-224/td-p/1137290/highlight/false
I did not clean install of 6.0 to 6.0.1. I just did clean install of 5.1 to 6.0.
There are people who did clean install and are having the same problem.
Someone here is going through the same problem?
Hey, I had the exact same problem as you (UK Generic) and I did a clean install as well. I had to do a factory reset after installing and it took about 2 days for the battery drainage to settle down. Yesterday I got about 4 hours of SOT. I usually get around 2.5 days of battery which is similar to the previous firmware.
Try a factory reset.
To be honest, I'm getting the best battery life I ever had out of that smallish 2,900mAh battery + power-hungry Snapdragon 810, since .224
I still don't get the battery life I had out of my OnePlus One (that thing was a beast), but it's better. I get home after work with between 25% and 35% battery left now. With Lollipop and Marshmallow 6.0, pre 224, it would usually be between 15~20% (25% on good days), same usage pattern.
The Z5 is still not a very good phone in the battery life department, and probably neve will be, but it's better now.
One important thing though: I clean-installed .224

I turned off once and giving reboot again, but had not resolved! The system android was 9% and then increased to 14% of battery usage. Is now 6%, ie normal.
I got 4 hours 40 minutes of SOT today, from 100 to 2%. This was mainly browsing and some videos over the span of 10 hours. If I'm lucky I can get 12 hours overall but with only 2-3h screen on time, as I don't use the phone as often.
I noticed something odd today - Wifi is now showing at he top of my usage details and it shows an entire span of Wifi usage (from 19 days ago, I think that is when the phone was updated). It has no impact on the battery life but it's just odd that "screen" doesnt show on the top anymore. I rebooted and the same thing occurs.
The battery usage screen really sucks now - you can't even see if the phone is "awake" or when there was wifi/mobile signal etc.
I got over 7hours with WiFi connected, Opera browser to read wattpad and my phone still had 27%. I've just unplugged my phone 2 hours ago and used it to surfing GG+ and Facebook, 20% for 2hour and 10mins usage. So it's good or bad? This result is a little better than my old Z2.
Same thing here. I usually have up plug in mid of the day just to make sure i have enough juice to survive the night. Around 3 hrs SOT only. Even with the auto sync off and wifi scanning off. Location service is off too. I don't see why the standard stamina mode has been removed that usually prolongs battery. I have doze installed for mobile data minimized but still around 3hrs or so

I get the same WiFi bug and it's currently showing 18 days! Did you clean install the update? OTA or via Xperia Companion?

Which option do you see it?
With normal use, (browsing, social networks, videos, etc) I lose about 10% -15% per hour which I think is normal because I use it a lot. so it may last about 6 - 8 hours until it reaches 20% and I charge it immediately, I only drained the battery from 100% to 0% one time. Because I read somewhere full drains are not good for battery. Anyway if I play games, for example Need for Speed No Limits, I lose about 20% in an hour or so. so if I keep playing it will last only 4 hours aprox. maybe less. But there had been days where I almost don't use the phone and it lasts all day. So I really can't complain. But it certainly doesn't lasts 2 days as Sony said

After charging to 100%, it's gone.
I updated with OTA this time around, and not a clean install.

Got the new update promise to fix batt, did you guys update?
Without any changes on usage type (I cannot say its regular on everyday, but I can say that there is no difference between last update and and previous one) battery performance on last update is about half of the previous one! Even if the stamina mode is activated, draining is very fast on my device (z5 compact). Draining on stamina mode is larger than normal usage on normal mode (prev version). In short, this problem is very very bad on my phone. I'm wondering when this issue will be solved or this is just happened on my device?

Have to keep it in your mind.
I did clean install of .224, wipe everything. Let the battery dies completely and recharged up to 100% without stopping. I had a significant improvement in battery life!

Experiencing battery drain on new phone

I bought my OP7 7 days ago , I have been experiencing poor battery life from day 1. SOT is around 3 to 4 hours , standby time is around 22 hours. If I leave the phone idle for an hour , the battery percentage drops 4 percent without any activity . I do remember receiving an OTA update on the first boot , I don't know if that was the culprit or I have been sold a lemon. I have waited for a week hoping that the battery life would improve after a few charge cycles but there has been no change.
Is everybody else facing the same issue , especially those who are on 9.5.x ?
I have to say that i do not experience any issues like that. The overnight drain is minimal, a few % over 8 - 9 hours, and overall the screen time is as expected (i daily play some extremely CPU heavy games for a couple of hours and i still get around 5 hours of screen).
I'm also experiencing the same issues. When phone idle abnormal battery drain.
Can you tell me if the phone with the cellular data turned off, uses data from your plan? Can you see that?
I had same issue with my phone so then I returned it to Amazon and I received replacement which is working fine and giving good battery backup.

I made 2 returns, I'm now with the third phone and still had the same issue. I'm losing my mind how is that possible. And for sure is all new phones with different imei.
Every user has different usage profiles.
If your phone is rooted install Better Battery stats or FK to get detailed info about the rogue process that may be consuming more battery than it should.

I'm not a heavy usage user.
I'm not rooted but installed a similar app. I'll collect data and will post the screenshots.
