Hey people,
I have got a HTC Titan and a HTC HD7 both in the UK and I have had a weird problem from day one of having the Titan.
Basically upon activating my Titan for the first time, I started the Maps app and in its settings there was an option to read out aloud directions.
Upon planning a route, voice turn by turn started in British English.
However, after exiting Maps and restarting it, there were no more voice instructions! Even the option in Maps settings is gone.
I tried hard resetting and the problem repeats in exactly the same way!
I went back to my HD7 and noticed that it had normal voice navigation but I found that it was also set to English - International in regional settings.
I changed it to English UK and the same situation as my Titan arose!
Are your Windows Phones exhibiting the same problems, especially the Titan ?
Some features are, for whatever reason, region-locked. It's a political thing, possibly combined with the availability or accuracy of Bing mapping data (though that should be very good in the UK). I'm not sure why MS is apparently blocking this feature for Brits.

I have had several problems with TomTom Navigator 6 (installed from HTC Touch Cruise CD). Using USA/Canada complete map purchased from TomTom.
History
1. The "Turn on sound" setting in Change Preferences does not stay set to on. Every time I start TomTom, the sound is turned off.
2. After a destination has been selected, the voice directions are incomplete. TomTom will say "After 100 yards..." rather than "After 100 yards, turn right". TomTom NEVER indicates what direction to turn in advance of the turn. It will tell you which direction to turn when you are at the point of turning, but never in advance.
3. I have a problem when selecting a contact as the destination. Click "Navigate to..." then "Contact", then scroll through my contacts and make a selection. In the vast majority of cases, Navigate to returns the address with the street number AFTER the street name rather than before it.
Thus TomTom returns:
Main Steet 134, Bryn Mawr
The address given for this contact can't be understood. Would you like to enter the address yourself?
All of my contacts are synced from Outlook/Exchange and are all set up correctly. This bug renders the Navigate to Contact fetaure useless.
First follow-Up
I finally got around to call TomTom regarding these problems and I am not happy with their response!
According to TomTom, the HTC Touch Cruise is not on their supported list. That's correct folks, not supported. Doesn't matter that it comes packaged with the TC, it's not supported. Blame HTC (they say) for including the license with an unsupported device.
The technician suggested that I downgrade to Navigator 6 V6.030 which supposedly addresses my issues. I did the downgrade and determined that:
1. The sound setting still is not maintained. In fact, it now required that I press Turn on Sound twice for this feature to work.
2. I am still not getting the complete voice response, only "After 1/8 mile..." No turn left or turn right. TomTom said I should reformat my memory card and reinstall app and maps and that MIGHT help. Well, I'm, not going to go through all of that unless I know it will work, too many other things on the memory card to deal with.
3. Navigate to.. Contacts now actually seems to work! But the ironic thing is that TomTom told me that the Navigate to... Contacts feature is ENTIRELY UNSUPPORTED even though it is in their software! They claim it was never completed and therefore not supported.
This is absurd. The hardware is not supported by the software that it was bundled with, and the software itself has features that are not even supported by the developer.
Second follow-Up
I uninstalled and reinstalled TomTom 6.032 from the CD. Also uninstalled and reinstalled the maps.
1. Default sound setting seems to have been fixed.
2. Still have the problem with incomplete audio directions ("In 1/8 mile...)
3. Navigate to Contacts also seems to be working though not tested extensively.
Am I the only user with this TomTom oddity? Why on earth will it not state the entire direction? TomTom has been no help, anyone here have any ideas?
I cannot say this for the US/Canada maps but for the Benelux/Western Europe maps, the directions are OK and I don't encounter your problem.
I'm using the default Dutch voice in version 6.032.
Try a hard reset and install tomtom again on the clean rom, see what happens with that.
German maps work fine, too. I'm using Lisa (as a speaker , who is more or less Tom Tom default I believe.
Sound settings are kept correctly.
Version 6.032
I don't have any problems with TomTom either.
IF you want to try some other voices, you could drop me a PM and we'll "arrange" so you can get them from me (got a package of many different voices)

I was preparing to hard reset my TC (last resort) when I figured that there was nothing to lose by changing the voice. I did, and it worked! Never would occur to me that the voice selection would have any impact on this problem.
But, unfortunately, the problem with keeoing the default sound setting has returned. Each time I start TomTom, the sound is off. ARGH!
Anyway, thank you for steering me in the right direction. Hopefully this one issue is now put to bed.
Nice to be able to help
maybe you could be so kind reading my thread and answer it? (since it seems i'm the only one in this forum that actually owns a TC *cough cough*)

I get exactly the same problem with the sound. I have an XDA Orbit II, sound in TomTom always off, have to keep changing it, removed it, I use Co-Pilot and Navigon now, both are great.
RE: Sound problem
I have the same problem with the sound and it was bugging the hell out of me too. Speaking to a friend of mine who has the same problem, apparently it is due to a known bug in the current TomTom release: If you have a data connection open when you start TomTom, it thinks you are in the middle of a voice call and mutes the sound. My friend also informed me that there should be a new release from TomTom soon that addresses the issue. I don't have any links but there may well be another thread somewhere on this forum about it if you search.
The sound on my TomTom will occassionally turns itself off and requires it to be turned on TWICE to work again. I think its a known bug. The problem used to be worse on my P3600/Trinity.
Update- from the kaiser forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235
It's a bug, you have to switch off the data connection before starting TomTom.
SIMPLE FIX: Roll the volume wheel and sound turns on.

might also work on the Trinity?

Sure? Rumour has it on GPS-specific forums that TomTom are not actively working on updating Nav6 (for PDAs) because its too much like hard work; much more revenue in (simpiler) dedicated units which are more stable

Interesting. Prior to launching TomTom, I used Comm Manager to turn off the data connection. When TT launched, sound is indeed on! When sound is off as a result of an active data connection), using the volume slider on the TC does not turn the sound on. Seems like the only way it to go to settings and select Sound On twice.
Hopefully TomTom will correct this bug. May also try downgrading to 6.030 to see if that works but I don't know what features I'd be losing (if any).
Hi all,
I've posted this in the Iolite/Cruise 09 section as well. I'm posting here so there's a better chance of answering my question.
I just got my Cruise 09 delivered last week, it replaced an Eten M600 which finally died a month ago !!
I'm really happy so far, it could do with one or two more hardware buttons , but it's not really a problem.
I've been trying out TomTom , and bought the Europe maps, it works perfectly so far.
I have a question I hope someone can answer for me - Is it possible to turn off the phone and still use the GPS ? When I turn the phone off and try to use TomTom, I have a message on screen "All connections are disabled (Flight mode) "
Is there a way around this ?
I will be driving abroad soon and don't want to leave my phone on all of the time.
Thanks
you can turn it off but you can prob toggle the screen so you save a bit of power
that way
thing is when suspented the phones disable the sd interface to save power
and thats where most people keep their maps
It's a design flaw of TomTom. Other GPS apps work in flight mode though. You can turn the phone off but leave the wifi and/or bluetooth on. Driving with the phone off seems like an unnecessary/bad idea. Any good reason for it?
Hi ,
Thanks for the replies.

The reason I wanted to operate Tomtom without the phone turned on is because when I go away on holidays I usually turn my phone off. After all , the whole idea is to get away from it all and try to relax, not be answering the phone all the time.
I'm planning on driving around Scotland, and will be using the GPS on my new Cruise.
I've just been experimenting with my phone. If I have wifi enabled and the gsm off, Tomtom says flight mode enabled.
If I have Bluetooth enabled but wifi and gsm off , Tomtom works !
I also just got an email response from HTC, as follows --

Dear valued HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your HTC Cruise 2
To clarify your issue, you stated that: Hard reset operation
There must be a bug into the software, if the flight mode is visible into the system this can be just a software problem, if the flight mode is inside the tomtom software this can be the distribution of tomtom , please try the hard reset.
HARD RESET OPERATION.
1.Start
2.Settings
3.System
4.Clear Storage (before performing please make sure that you run a backup using active sync)

It appears they think I should do a hard reset.
Would this not just reinstall tomtom with the same bug ?
.
i am having battery drain issues on my sprint touch pro. i believe it stems from the phone waking itself up when it goes into roam mode. i live in a rural area of west TN so as you can imagine this happens quite a bit. i have been through many, many threads on here via the search function and so far haven't found anything that can help me.
i thought maybe the s2u2 program would be the answer, but after reading a bit, it seems like maybe i will have the same issue.
i've also looked into every menu i can find (on the advanced config program even) and so far nothing has worked. i've had the phone since january now and i really like it, but this involuntary waking/battery thing is really killing me.
anyone on here know a fix for this other than disabling roaming? i do like to make and/or receive calls ocassionally.

Turn off 3 G or HSPDA and see if that helps.
i dont know how turning off 3g works with sprint (Cdma) but i could recommend using some sort of auto locking program (start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547367). that way it would keep your phone locked and not completely active when it "wakes up". another option would be to use a program that shuts off your screen when it's in your pocket (http://www.fuzemobility.com/phone-upside-down-backlight-off/). other than that, i dont have much for you.
does anyone know of any reg keys to change that will disable the auto-wake on teh roaming?
I had this - but it didn't seem to be related to roaming.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=504016
I'm now on my third Touch Pro.
The first had the above problem which o2 (UK) repair denied was a problem.
The second didn't have the above problem, but did have a faulty speaker.
I'm now two weeks into my third Touch Pro whch so far does not have this problem.
I hard reset and reinstalled software one app at a time and concluded it wasn't a software issue.
After swapping handset's and not seeing the issue, despite having the same software and ROM loaded (stock o2, but the latest handset is a later stock ROM) I've conclude it definitely was a hardware issue.
Can you get a replacement under your warranty?

These Qs probably have been answered many times, but my searches did not return meaningful answers
I'm running stock ROM and do not want to change at the moment until Sprint ships WM 6.5. SO I have 3 issues that have been bugging me big time:
1) How do you force applications to use WiFi? The only way I can make it work is to disable the Phone in Communications tab. There must be a way to do it w/o flashing a new ROM, right?
2) I always thought having a sliding screen lock is a matter of finding the right setting. Well not really. I know and tried the free program called S2U2. However I did not like the interaction it had with the phone and my hands free. Things were slower and the additional layer did not add to better user experience. So is there a way to get the sliding screen lock on this phone w/o flashing non-stock ROM?
3) The call answer slider. Who came up with this? The split nature of that slider bar puts your chances of successfully answering a call at 50/50. I like my chances better with the old style on my original TP. Any way to get that back w/o flashing a new ROM?
Pardon these simple questions, folks, but the have been nagging me for weeks now
The slide to unlock feature is stock on WM 6.5, unless you use a third party app like S2U2 I don't know of a way to get the enhanced locking feature. Try pocketshield, it work better for me than s2u2. However it did glitch sometimes and sleep/lock when opening apps. Flashing is not as scary as all the warnings posted by Rom devs. Unless you have to remain with a stock rom, I suggest trying one. Slide to answer is another story. Hope I helped.
As far as wifi goes, if your wifi is on, your carrier data is off. Most apps should be able to use wifi for net purposes but some use triangulation of cell towers to determine your relative location (goog maps , etc). Without cell data active these apps wont work.
Yes, this helped. Thanks!
I was able to figure out and test my wi-fi connection and amazingly enough it works as you described i.e. transparently. I simply checked device's IP address via an extrernal site and it did change when I turned my wi-fi on/off.
I'm not as much scared as I'm still suffering from rippling effects of bricking my previous phone - Touch Pro. I lost all of my contacts (my own fault). So while I could have done hard reset and bring the unit back, Sprint gave me an option to upgrade to TP2 for free. I took it, of course. This is a much nicer phone! Just those little things ...
So I'm really happy with my Note Edge, and ordered one from a reputable online retailer two weeks ago and received a French phone - but as I'm in the UK, the phone is designed for any EU country, so for example all instructions are in English, French and other EU languages. When setting up my phone, I of course made sure that everything was set up in English and that location was set up as UK.
BUT - the Twitter app for the Edge screen for some reason thinks I'm in France, and on launching the app it starts for 1-2 seconds in English but then starts to show French trends. I have tried everything - installing the full Twitter app and logging on, turning on my location, turning the Twitter Edge app off and on..etc - but to no avail. I emailed Samsung who told me they don't provide support for 3rd party apps, even though the Twitter Trend app came pre-installed, cannot be uninstalled, and is one of the key apps used by Samsung to showcase the phone. The only thing I haven't tried is to do a factory reset, which is such a hassle to do considering how long it took me to customise every minute detail of the phone.
It would be much-appreciated if anyone has any suggestions, and basically I think that somewhere on the phone it is telling the app that I am in France. If the Twitter Trend Edge screen app had its own settings that would be easy - but it doesn't and everywhere else I can find the location has been set to UK.

I used to have this issue with my phone showing twitter trends in Korean as mine is the Korean model and I'm in London.
I noticed turning on the 'location' fixed that problem but then again, some other times even with the location turned on it would change the language back to Korean...
Try this if you already haven't and see if it works.
