the APN are not needed for calls. just to surf the Internet
Correct me if I'm wrong.
what you say. I think the SIM is burned. try a new and tell us how it goes
Sometimes the server of my operator falls and I can not make calls or messages.for about 5 minutes. or up to 6 hours
I would try a total reset first GTG's Ultimate Unbrick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251

Hi Pajezaum
I'm from Brazil São Paulo as well and bought my Infuse August last year.
Mine I bought it unlocked, to prevent this kind of problem, .
Anyway, I'm using Claro and it's working perfect, stock factory ROM.
I suggest you test another sim card, even try from another mobile provider.
Infuse is Quad-band, so maybe it's not a frequency problem.
Any problem, contact me.

any possibility of the IMEI is blocked?
markbyck, i sent a message for you.
if you are blocked by imei then you should be able to get incomming calls, but when every you try making an outgoing call you signal will jump to no service, ( i bought a stolen phone before ) F**KING craiglist
guys, i installed DarkyRom and show 'Sim card PUK-Locked' any idea?

Who is your service provider? I had the same problem with Telus in Canada and I managed to resolve it.
Go to Settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names and open whichever one corresponds to your SP. Make sure the first two fields (Name and APN) are filled out. When I bought mine everything was checked except for these. The information you have to enter will vary based on your service provider, but if you give them a call or check another phone which is also with them you should be able to figure out what to put.

Try a new simcard. That happened to me, one day i noticed all data stopped working, then withink 30 mins my voice was gone too. Luckily my Nexus came with a new sim so i popped that in and called T-Mo and provisioned the new SIM. Works better than ever now. I recommend everyone use a new sim card in the phone because it really does help with the phone.

It is rare for a new sim card to be required. if your phone is stock, you are best to call tech support. Repushing the sim is often enough. Besides here, it's $10 for a new sim and $25 to provison it unless waived by tech support our it's a new activation.

"last" option is always the service center. good luck
Maybe the physical contacts of your phone's SIM slot are the problem. Try removing your SIM card, take a screwdriver or something flat and gently lift the contacts by placing the flat bit under then and turning.
Hope you got what I meant, else just take it to a service center.

I have the same icon on my 920 since upgrading to ICS I am using a UK T-Mobile [EE] sim card. It does seem to disable certain sim features, [Call forwarding, call barring etc. Tried re-installing ICS and formatting etc but get a "network or sim error" report when trying to activate call forwarding. I bought the phone second hand 3 months ago and found the imei number missing from inside the phone so am not sure if it has been "cloned" or something like that. Perhaps some developer will read this thread and give us some help !

I have same problem exactly. I am in the UK using UK T-Mobile, which is now rebranded EE. I think the fact the sim card is T-Mobile and the Network is now EE is causing the phone software to try and use 2 sim cards. The unusual system icon [the 1 in a white square] is displaying the sim card number1 is in use and connected. Try a friends sim card which has data enabled in your phone and it should clear. If it does you will need to get a sim card from T-Mobile/Orange that works. Please let me know if you get the problem sorted out and I will update you if I get any answers to the problem from T-Mobile UK.
Regards, Keith

Actually, I am in Brazil, but the same thing happens here.
If I put my old SIM card (from the carrier "TIM"), the icon disappears.
But with my new SIM card (carrier "Oi"), the icon appears again.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but my old SIM card was a very old mini-SIM model. This new one that doesn't have call forwarding has a micro-SIM-style contact arrangement on a mini-SIM-shaped card.
I would check with my new carrier if I could switch my card, however I never use call forwarding, so I don't suppose it is worth the hassle.
Anyways, thanks for the help.
I believe that means that you are using line 1 had this on one if my windows phone. That is your service provider settings.

Did you drop it or changed anything?
If you have accidently changed few things while playing with any system's tweak app,
Try doing a factory reset. And if you are using BMM, try installing other ROMs available...

If other sim cards work then it would seem that you may have a bad, or possibly damaged, sim. Try to get your carrier to replace it for you.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.

If the only problem is with the airtel network sim card(s) then it must be a network issue. I would say at this point you should contact Airtel and be sure that your phone is compatible with their network. They might even be able to offer you a solution like maybe a different sim card, and/or a different service plan that your phone will be able to function on. Either way, it sounds like a network issue rather than a phone issue and should be resolved by Airtel. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that. Maybe someone here that is on the same network knows of a workaround.

I just had to say this... Not being a jerk, but more of a smart arse...
Maybe if you were using airtel instead of suing them it would work.
All kidding aside.
The a2 is known to have issues with some telco's sims, just politely tell them you require a new 64k sim card, and see if that helps. It seems many have had issues with the airtel India sim cards even if they once worked in the phone, and just stopped.
Thanx buddy
I already tried many other sims of airtel of my friends but the problem is same. Sometimes phone got the signal for 3 to 4 hrs with airtel sim. After that signals accidently lost.

Do you have the 64k sim card as jimbridgman suggested? If not then try that.
If you do have a 64k sim and it still isn't working then the only thing left that I can think of is hardware failure.

Hi,
Just bought a brand new Nexus 5 from a person wanting to keep his iPhone.
Everything is working fine, except it says "No service" (sometimes with one bar, sometimes with all four). Data is working fine though, but neither SMS/MMS or phonecalls works. Sometimes, when i reset/reboot i doesn't say "No Service", but after one single phonecall it reverts back to "No Service" and only data works again.
Iv'e tried resetting with the firmware on the phone from the start, tried flashing both kot49h and krt16m, tried getting a new sim (which works fine in my old Nexus 3), tried different radio-settings but nothing works for me.
Any thought of, what I can do? (before I ship it off to repair, which would cost quite a lot)
Thanks, in advance!

You need to either update or add your APN for your provider, then everything will work for you. Flashing modems probably won't help you. Also, make sure the Sim card you have is active.

Don't want to look offensive, but are you on wifi?
Dansker her også
The problem you have, i faced that when my old phone got stolen. So less then a week ago my old phone got stolen (got it back, but bought a nexus 5 now :3) i called the insurance company and police to report it stolen, and i got it IMEI locked with the help of the police. And when that happends you wont be able to call or text from it, but your data will work for tracking it.
So my guess is that its a stolen phone and the original owner reported it stolen to the police, and now its IMEI locked.
Try and call the police and give them the IMEI number, and tell them what you told us and ask if its locked.
Great day to you!

@Zestia , I'll try that, although the websites with blacklist-lookup that I've tried the IMEI with, didn't say that it's stolen.
Did you check to see if your phone is blacklisted for being lost/stolen?
