Newbe: o2 Xda Orbit Question - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have found my old phone from 2008 an O2 Xda Orbit lying in the back of my cupboard. I remeber it being my favourite item just 4 years ago and I bought the cradle for in car-navigation etc. I now am on Vodafone and was wondering if there was anything that I could do with the phone apart from selling for £8.00 on Mazuma.
I am an ICT technician so I know my way around a computer but would really be looking for some basic instructions / links to files, if there is a way to use the phone without a sim card, or to use the phone with the old sim card inserted (number not now in use). I have been playing for about 4 hours and dropping .cab files in and flashing the ROM etc, but dont think I am doing the right steps in the right order.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Keith (Newbie)

Anyone? Any ideas?

Converting an MDA Compact to XDA Mini

Hi folks,
A friend of mine is buying my old T-Mobile MDA Compact off me, he's on O2 PAYG and I'm looking to convert the phone to be as much like the O2 XDA equivelant as posible to avoid network issues.
Firstly, What is the O2 XDA equivelant of the MDA Compact officially known as? I've heard it's the XDA mini, but not sure.
1. Can I install/use an O2 XDA mini ROM (or updated one) to setup the phone for use on O2? I'm assuming the ROM is the only software differance between an XDA mini and MDA Compact.
2. Will this also change the radio stack, allowing the phone to accept an O2 sim card or will i need to apply a seperate unclock tool?
Where can I find O2 XDA mini ROMs? and if needed an unlock tool?
I'm hoping its as simple as just installing an O2 ROM but I'm preparing myself for the worst.
Any help and advice gratly appreciated,
Mike
Mike,
I actually did this about 6 months ago before I left the UK.
My MDA Compact was working fine on an O2 PAYG SIM card with the original T-mobile ROM on the device (I tried it also with the upgrades that were available on the website, though I don't think there are any left online now). All I did was unlock the device to allow it to accept the O2 SIM card.
I got a little bored of looking at the T-mobile bits of the ROM after a while, so I changed the ROM to the generic HTC version. This also worked fine, as it is designed to be universally compatable anyways.
I don't have the file anymore, but the unlock program I used I got off the XDA Developers drive, and I think that it was called xdadev.unlock, though I am not sure.
Hope this helps.
Be sure you are confident in what you are doing before you attempt any of the above, becqause there may be compications in any of the suggestions that I have made.

XDA Network switching

Hi, quick one please.
I have a Wizard also know as XDA Mini S branded to O2... I did recently do the update to WM6 with the Hard method, also used some software which captured settings of the phone, it told me it was SIM unlocked and I know I made it CID unlocked with the Hard thing.
What I want to know is this.
Currently on a business contract with o2, this is expiring and I have sorted out so I get a signal here on other networks by using other antenna (see my other post)... I ebayed a very cheap Orange SIM so I can test the signal, however it doesn't have a number and requires registering and I know I need to give my phone EIMI out. I also have another sim here which works as a PAYG Vodafone which is registered to another hand set.
So, when i put in either vodafone or orange sim into my so called 'unlocked' phone, it just sits there searching away and nothing really happens, no messages just search, I know I should be getting signals.
1: Is this handset locking methods but I am sure im unlocked? Is this because the EMIE and vodafone sim card is not matching?
2: As I am in a business contract with o2, if I register the EMEI number with Orange, will I upset my business phone number (must not do)
All I want to do is see how 'steady' the orange signal is here and also find out what to do next when we change our contract (this month) as I wish to retain my XDA because no 'new' XDA-type phones coming out have no antenna sockets
Any help is good
nobody here?
if i were you i would ask in the forum made specialy for your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=289
better chance of getting a reply from people who own the same device
the wiki is also a good place to get info
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard
but it is a question about networks and how they work and not about a particurlar phone.
Quite stunned that nobody is actually interested in helping me on this issue, they seem to be more interested in ROMs are alike lol
Is there any other forums out there devote to Mobile Phones?
Thanks anyway Rudegar

AT&T Shipping Info -- Various SIM?

First off I just wanna say how awesome this site is and wanted to thank all the people who put their time and effort into helping us out with our phones. Big ups to you guys!
Now on to my question....
I just purchased an HTC Fuze off of AT&T's website (which should be arriving tomorrow -- omg i'm so excited!!!) and I noticed that on the shipping info it shows 3 items which are:
1. Various SIM
2. FREIGHT
3. HITECH P4600 BLK PHONE
My question is... what is a various SIM? Does it mean that they are just sending me a new SIM card with the phone? I searched the net for "various SIM" and found nothing relevant. I'm mostly wondering why because I purchased the phone using an extra line in my family's plan since my phone line still isn't due for an upgrade for another 3 months... so therefor I wanted to put the SIM card from my line into the fuze... is this possible or will I encounter a problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you added an extra line they would also have to send an additional sim card with the device. Your current sim will work fine in your newly purchased device.
Thanks for the quick reply. The line I purchased the phone from (the extra line) has been on my account for a few years, it's not a newly added line. Honestly I don't even know where the phone or sim card for that account is anyways. So is it possible that they are sending a new one with the phone since I bought it online without talking with a sale rep first?
so I got my phone today and what they did was send me a new sim card with the phone. I just took it out and put in the sim card from my current phone and then called to have it activated -- no problems.. question solved! Now it's time to do some modding =)

[Q] HTC HD2 ROM upgrade frustration

Hi all
I bought an HTC HD2 new, boxed, gleaming and unused from eBay. Locked to T-Mobile, it took you guys to help get it unlocked so I could use it with my O2 sim. I tried to upgrade the ROM but found that the version I used - 1.72.110.4 - was in fact back to the T-Mobile bunch of stuff you chaps and lasses had tried so hard to get me away from.
I have found the latest O2 version - 1.72.206.3 - which I have copied to my microSD but each time I attempt to install it on the phone I get an error message saying that its not a valid phone file (sob!).
I can no longer access the internet through my roaming bolt on as the thing is tied up to T-Mobiles programming and until I can bully the phone into accepting the new O2 ROM software I am, proverbally, stuffed.
Can anyone suggest a course of action I might follow to get my poor HD2 back on track? (if the course involves alcohol then I've love you all the more for it).
Any assistance you guys n gals might be able to lend would be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards

[Q] Hero 9300 +

Hi everyone at XDa and members
I have recently purchased a Hero 9300 + From android for cheap to use in the uk.
Well the phone has arrived and ive used it for two days and i have to say its better than i expected, even exceeded my expectations.
I am using a orange and giff gaf sim, however when i topped up my Orange sim whenever i make a call it comes up with roaming .... I am assuming its because the phone is chinese and im in the uk ..... My question is .... Is there a way around this as i have no idea about rooting and would rather not have to use an international sim just so i can use my phone in the uk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Also im new to XDA so thanks in advance.

Open settings sim management and make sure you set up all required settings to use both and take a look at your options for roaming as well.
And remember that both sim slots are not equal one dose more than just gsm one dose not make sure you set up your in the correct slots.
Make sure that area is covered by your desired provider. Where your phone was assembled will not affect if your roaming or not.
