XDA Network switching - General Topics

Hi, quick one please.
I have a Wizard also know as XDA Mini S branded to O2... I did recently do the update to WM6 with the Hard method, also used some software which captured settings of the phone, it told me it was SIM unlocked and I know I made it CID unlocked with the Hard thing.
What I want to know is this.
Currently on a business contract with o2, this is expiring and I have sorted out so I get a signal here on other networks by using other antenna (see my other post)... I ebayed a very cheap Orange SIM so I can test the signal, however it doesn't have a number and requires registering and I know I need to give my phone EIMI out. I also have another sim here which works as a PAYG Vodafone which is registered to another hand set.
So, when i put in either vodafone or orange sim into my so called 'unlocked' phone, it just sits there searching away and nothing really happens, no messages just search, I know I should be getting signals.
1: Is this handset locking methods but I am sure im unlocked? Is this because the EMIE and vodafone sim card is not matching?
2: As I am in a business contract with o2, if I register the EMEI number with Orange, will I upset my business phone number (must not do)
All I want to do is see how 'steady' the orange signal is here and also find out what to do next when we change our contract (this month) as I wish to retain my XDA because no 'new' XDA-type phones coming out have no antenna sockets
Any help is good

nobody here?

if i were you i would ask in the forum made specialy for your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=289
better chance of getting a reply from people who own the same device
the wiki is also a good place to get info
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard

but it is a question about networks and how they work and not about a particurlar phone.
Quite stunned that nobody is actually interested in helping me on this issue, they seem to be more interested in ROMs are alike lol
Is there any other forums out there devote to Mobile Phones?
Thanks anyway Rudegar

xda2 02 not working in uk but working in turkey

This has been driving me nuts for two days now, I have looked in most of the forums and have come to the conclusion :?
 can someone point me in the right direction. everthing works except the phone. it has been unlocked to any network. I have also dowloaded the latest rom from o2
rom 1.72.00wwe
radio 1.17
prot 1337.28
exr rom 1.72
model number ph10b
imei 352938004339169
probley as its blocked here in the UK on all 4 networks, at the moment it will work on any network, as long as its not in the UK
Thanks for your reply. I dont think there is a way around this. I have tried and looked, oh well, back to turkey it goes.
Thank you

That is really strange. There's no reason why that shouldn't work. Both countries run on the same GSM frequencies and if it's unlocked then all should be peachy. Have you tried using your Turkish sim card with international roaming or anything like that just to see whether the phone can actually pick up signal?
Thank you for your reply It picks up all the signals ok, Jimmy but does not call or recive. I suspect it is locked or bared in the UK
it will not work in the UK with any UK sim, and it will not work in the uk with a sim from another country that is roaing. it will also not work whilst in another countery with a UK sim. But it will work any where other than the uk with a non uk sim in it
Applecom, do you have any information as to why this doesn't work? I sell Vodafone products in Australia and have told many customers who have various phone models that it would work based on my ex girlfriend's phone working fine while she was on holidays up there. She had an Australian Telstra sim with international roaming enabled. Vodaphone Australia also has international roaming rates for when you're in the UK listed on their website.
Is this just an I-mate thing? I need to know so I can inform my customers with reliable knowledge.
In the UK if a phone is reported as lost or stolen on any of the networks here, they will bare the IMIE number on there network, and inform the other 3 providers here that the phone should be bared. So regardless of what country you are in, if you have a UK sim from any network and a phone thats been reported lost in the UK it will not work.
it has nothing to do with what phone you have if the IMIE is bared in the UK it will not here.
Thank you all for your replies. I suspect, well about 95% sure it is barred in this country alone on all the networks. It is illegal to change IMEI here in England so I will have to bring it back to Turkey so they can sort it out. I was told it will work in all countries.

Fair enough. I didn't realise it was a lost/stolen/barred phone.

Hi Jimmy I did not know either.
Thank you all for the information I recived. I could not figure it out myself.
Its still worth checking with the providers, As a typical problem here is someone will change the IMIE in there phone, and they just guess a IMIE number. then they loose there phone, this will oviousley bar there phone But at the same time this will bar your phone,
The networks here dont bother to check if the IMIE matches the model of the phone reported lost, but they do keep a record of the phone model that was lost, So a quick call ( then probley a letter) would get your phone working again if the IMIE had been cloned
Thank you all for your time and effort I have made a small donation towards the site. I also recomend anyone else using this site to make one. You guys are great

How to Change HTC TYTN II imei?

Hi all,
I really need to change my HTC TYTN II imei. Can anyone help me on this? Is there any software I can get from this forum to change my imei myself? Hope you all can guide me on this.
Changing your IMEI is seriously illegal in several countries.

Why you want to change imei, did you steal it,and you dont want the oparator tracking you.to change imei is ilegal.
Anything in this forum/site that is deemed illegal such as software or hacks will get you banned and the thread removed. Do you understand what the IMEI is used for? I can see if your device got hacked as many places such as Brazil had this problem with the TDMA/CDMA network. GSM is more secure but still not perfect. If you think you got hacked then loose the device and talk to your service provider right away as changing the International Mobile Equipment Identity will not help!
If you are on GSM and use a SIM card, most all wireless providers will not require you to register your IMEI. How many iPhones are in Canada on the Rogers network? And has Rogers nailed anyone for having one? Your SIM is what GSM networks use to ID you and your usage, not the phone. I would not be using an AT&T Tilt if IMEI would black list me from my provider and force me to use one of their (somewhat) outdated and poor selection of full featured phones...

I see an old NES Conrta fan here
I tried that and I still don't have unlimited lives.. er,... minutes on my phone
ya, still play it now and then. I was hoping someone would try this on their phone then post that's it's not working for them.
Which I then would have replied
you must first downgrade your rom to windows mobile 4.9
then upgrade your radio to version 1.66
remove your battery
reinsert your battery
try the code again
..hehe jokes

proevoguy, u must install hardSPL first
after that you must downgrade to WinMobile 4.7
, then search registry for IMEI
if you haven't install hardSPL, the key is hidden
mmm why is this thread is not locked??
lol
People want to change imei doesn't mean he/she is using a stolen phone. I want to change my imei just because I don't want AT&T to know I am using a PDA phone w/ their non-pda data plan

I was actually want the same thing because AT&t's plan for this phone is like 64.99 a month, which is just outrageous.
for those that care, i used an 8525 for 7 months before it broke and att never said a word about the fact that i didn't have a pda plan, when i took the phone in they asked if i wanted to register my new phone with them without changing my plan and it didn't cost me a dime, i was previously on a nokia 6030i as far as they knew

Same for me and Rogers. They had the Motorola 320, and Nokia 6820b in their database. Those 2 I got for next to nothing as I renewed my plan both times. The phone after those, I bought direct from HP as I was outsourced by them and got a good discount when buying the HW6955 (HTC Sable) through them and not Rogers (kept my old plan and the phone was factory unlocked too). Next is my current phone: AT&T Tilt, again bought the phone from some place other than Rogers and kept my old plan. If you got the phone for free or discounted, you will be forced into a new plan and the plan will always match the type of your phone. That is why you never buy from your cellphone provider. My 3 dollar internet plan I added long ago, only covered text based sites which matched my very old Motorola 320 So I axed that 3 dollar service from my plan. The guy was surprised to find out the last 2 phones were not on his list With what our providers have to offer for phones, Canada is way behind everyone else (can you say September for iPhone? And that is a maybe). Rogers added Tytn to their fleet of phones when everyone else was getting ready for the TyTN II. They still offer the original TyTn and still no plans for a Kaiser. We will get the Diamond but only after the rest of the world has warn them out. So in short: buy your phone in full and avoid a contract renewal. In the long run, you will still save money and avoid being put in their database.
yeah. It is very slow in Canada. However, I phoned Fido for their additional $7 dollars all you can browse service plan, it is required to registered your IMEI with Fido. Or I should said it this way, Fido only allows the IMEI on their list to sign up for that plan. That means without changing the IMEI, you are not eligible for that plan. I know some of the people change the IMEI on their Iphone just to use that data plan.
well the poster should
explain why they want to change their IMEI no reason just makes it all seem aloof to me!

And that is not "stealing" how?
I have often wondered - I think that it is the RIAA that made it illegal to "break copy protection schemes" - in other words to remove code that was designed to protect a program or music or software. In this forum we "remove" bits that keep us from installing ROMs - technically this would put us in violation of this?
We get away with it because?
1. it is our purchased phone and we can do with it what we want?
2. we don't sell the software that we make (ROMS)
I am pretty sure that is we change the IMEI numbers and enable someone to hurt provider's revenue stream that this will be the straw that breaks the camels back and they will go after the culprits.
My two bits worth...
proevoguy - the forum will generally not discuss IMEI changing as it is highly illegal in most countries. Please search for "get you sore" for some info on why most people won't assist you on this. Personally I'm not against the technical discussion of IMEI changing, but as it is such a dangerous subject, it's best not to touch it.
I'm going to lock the thread, but leave it visible, so if anyone wants to help you privately they can. Just don't forget to lube up first if you get caught with an IMEI changed phone.

Super Sim Clone and others

I have searched thru these forums trying an many combo's as I could think of and couldn't find it so hopefully this isnt a repeat set of questions.
-In the Bourne Supremacy, Jason Bourne makes a copy of somebody's sim card which allowed his phone to be on the same call as that person at the same time. All the references I can find to sim cloning state that the second phone must be switched off (or it causes some kind of problem?). So is there any such way to do that with GSM? The only reason I ask is because I work for a CDMA service provider, at sometimes during an ESN swap/upgrade the system will not release the old ESN. The result seems to be that both phones ring at the same time (Though only one can answer). Basically can it be done or is it movie magic?
-During my searches I saw many results for IMEI cloning. Im not sure if I understand why you would want to do this. Some ppl wanted to trick a service provider into giving them service, and I guess some wanted to use a phone that had been banned on a network(?). But really other than using a stolen or banned phone, whats the reason for the popularity of this issue?
-Also I unlock every phone I get, and it looks like there are many US AT&T users here that use or need unlock software. AT&T's general policy nowadays is that they will supply you with the codes for no charge. Just call in and say you bought the phone and will not be using their service. Basically no question asked. Tmobile will give you the code after 90 days with active service, and might give you the code if you arent planning on using their service. So is there another reason for unlocking the phones thru software as opposed to just getting the code? (Is it better, does it do more for you?)
And not a question but a huge, THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of you guys for doing what you do. VP3G's 8525 ROM is awesome (^_^)y

Nobody has figured out how to hack provider sim locks yet, you just have to get the code one way or another (thats why those unlocking services are so popular)

[Q] Help getting the Motorola q 4gLTE to work internationally

Problem: My partner has the Motorola Photon Q 4G Lte Phone on Sprint. This phone is unlocked software-ware wise and has the antennas to work on Vodaphone when we are overseas in a few months. But, sprint has physically soldered the Sim Card to the mother board of the phone so you cannot remove the sim and pop in a local sim when you get overseas, forcing you to use Sprint's prohibitively expensive international roaming service.
There is a guy who advertises on the web that he can modify the phone from a hardware perspective, but, his service requires mailing the phone to him in another country. I do not think I have the skills to do physical modification to a phone,
I see some software upgrade posts on here relative to the GSM radios, but, they are a bit to technical for me. Happy to have a hardware or software solution to this.
Goal is to be able to put a vodaphone sim or program phone to work on vodaphone, or similar carrier, while over in europe.
Can anyone help?
Well, you seem to already know of the guy who you can send the phone to...
So how did you miss this thread?
Good News !!! SIM CARD MOD IS HERE !!!
You can certainly try the mod yourself, there are some good pictures and information in that thread if you want to.
There is no software way around this issue. The only solution is a hardware one, as shown in that thread.
