Hi,
I have already posted a message, but looks like the Subject was not correct so I didn't get any response so trying my luck again.
my original post can be fond at :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22275265#post22275265
I am basically looking to find the following answer:
1. is there a default version of Andriod that can be installed on any device, and if yes, where can I find it.
2. Is it possible to upgrade the tablet manually to a newer version of Andriod, without the manufacture suppot. I am OK to loose any data stored on it.

Got a Crystalview e-pad for Xmas and I searched all over and can't find any word on this device.
I would like to push this to 2.1/2.2 if possible from 1.9, but can't find anything on device. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to a decent OS?
Thanks
Hi,
I have Gingerbread on mine (done by manufacturer), but I haven't been able to find a working ClockWork Recovery image for it, once I do I can backup Gingerbread with Nandroid from it and post it somewhere.

[Q] Goophone 4GS Unable to ROOT!

G'Day All
Just recently I purchased a Goophone 4GS, simply a Chinese knock off of an Iphone, but I must say a very good one at that indeed. The phone is very nice and I like it a lot but came with all these Chinese apps installed that make it not only difficult but frustrating to use. The simplest solution is to root the the phone and install the apps I want and in English as well.
Before everyone starts pointing me to this thread and that post, I have spent every night for the past week searching and reading every bit of information on trying to root this phone to no avail whatsoever. Root Rec 3.2 does not work, permission denied, superoneclick either hangs or or comes back with the same.
Z4Root does nothing, Gingerbreak just hangs, Anyandroot says wrong version.
More searching even going to translating the Chinese forum made no difference to the outcome, following their procedure, and all the others nothing seems to work
I have downloaded a rom That I would like to use but I need the phone rooted first, I even tried to install the rom, using the initial setup (surprisingly) in English but keeps telling me new rom no E signature process aborted.
Now I'm new to this game but willing to learn, and have come a long way in a week, so If I ask stupid questions please remember I'm still a NOOB.
If anyone can suggest a procedure, or try this or that please help, Speak up and save my sanity, before end up rooting the phone in a different way.
Thanks

I believe the version is a heavily modded version of 2.2 Froyo OR 2.3 Gingerbread.
An Update I tried a few more packages tonight, CF-Root, and 234root.zip.
CF didn't do a thing, 234 I could not open, non signature error, So I even tried installing 3e refectory installer, but all failed.
Desperate for ideas now, even tried renaming the new rom as backup file to fool the system but no work.
Desperayte for answeres Please!
Thanks

Hi All
Just so I put an end to this thread for others with the same problems the solution is.
The phone is set with an IOS operating system and when you go to root the phone the programme cannot find the correct version. So solution is.
Go to rom.gooapple.com and download an earlier version of the rom . I used 12.02.13.zip and worked.
When you enter the site do not use translator, find the rom and press on it, will redirect you to another site 115 Chinese . Under the picture there are 4 buttons press the white one and download should start.
Once downloaded install it to your SD card go to setup and update from SD, the new rom will then be installed on the phone. Then use the Chinese Root-Rec and it should root. I even checked it with superoneclick and it worked.
So when you check your version on the phone if its running IOS XXXXX then you need to change it to android.
Good Luck.
Thanks to those who assisted me, and I hope I can assist someone else.

Downgrade Samsung Omnia 7 Gen1

Hi All,
How can I downgrade my Omnia 7, I've tried the Cab Sender but it remains on the crapp KK2 update not allowing me to interopt unlock.
Is there any easy way if I don't have a zune back up? I just want to go back to a previous version so I can unluck and internet share again
Thanks for the help!
Regards,
Niels
There's a flashing tool for Samsung gen1 phones. Flash an older stock ROM.
Why don't you have a backup?
My laptop crashed where it was on, didn't have it backed up... didn't think it was that important.
Can you share where I can find the tools and stock rom ?
nvm, found it.. took a few hours to get where I wanted but I got it all working again including Nokia Drive 2.0
Cool, glad you found it.
Generally, in Q&A threads, it's nice to do two things when you solve the problem:
1. Add the tag [RESOLVED] to the thread (you can do this by editing the original post).
2. Post the solution (in this case, the link to the flashing too). It would be great to have a single post I could point people to, and say "this person did it, here's how you can too!"
Hi Niels, I have the same issue you had, just got my Omnia, updated to 8107 with no backup, you have a link on how to downgrade from KK2 so I can unlock ? thanks for the help !

Galaxy Tab 2: Need Stock Firmware For SPH-P500

Help! Infected Tab2 - Need stock firmware .zip for SPH-P500
This is my first post. I hope that brings me some luck!
I bought two SPH-P500's from Tiger direct when they were on sale, one for me and one for my wife. Unfortunately, hers got infected by something that I have not been able to eliminate via resets or reloads with the standard tools. I have tried Odin and Heimdahl without success. Foolish me rooted the device but did NOT replace the bootloader I can't load anything but a "signed" zip file expected by the stock system. Unfortunately, the infected device is now no longer rooted as my wife reloaded things and blew away the original
I've also tried a number of obscure things like looking at the cache device/partition to see if there was a .zip left there from the last update, but all that was there was a small text file.
What I need is *ANY* legitimate >> signed zip << firmware file for this model device so I can try an adb sideload. I know there aren't many folks using this device, but was hoping maybe someone might take pity on my plight.
Any other suggestions also appreciated!
Just for the record, the malware continuously plays a short tune and refuses to be killed off. It uses up so much of the CPU that one cannot do much of anything...
here the firmware

I'm also looking for any usable rom apart from stock. I have an sph-p500 which is technically the same as sgh-i497 but found no roms at all (apart from the stock rom). any help appreciated. all rom links are broken. I know the device is pretty old but I don't want to shred it.

[Completed] Can Clockwork or another recovery program find and backup your truly stock ROM?

My question current is really about better understanding something in this whole Root and Linux learning adventure I think I am totally confused about.
Basically if no custom ROM exist or your device is not listed on the supported list of devices in any recovery program....
OR as in my case you want desperately to get the thing back running on it's true stock what do you do?
Your rooted, but stuck.
So my main question is:
What is the best way to bring a device back to stock if there is no stock ROMs available and factory reset will not work?
On any device in this situation. Mostly I am hoping to have it explained in a way I can really finalize this confusing hole in my logic.
Like can a recovery program find it if it is still on the device somewhere and if not, why not?
Thanks in advance.
Additional backstory if helpful.
I have a Wacom Cintiq Hybrid running Android 4.1 that is ( now ) rooted..
This is a very bad thing. The Real Stock ROM has palm rejection and all the drivers to make it work as a tool. So stock is the ideal but it is clearly not stock as my device supposedly came in the
box running 4.2 and with software and drivers to make it work properly with the pen. This has nothing. No software and the smallest amount of apps possible. Worse this is no custom ROM its on ( I think) as it would be the worst one ever and it was not rooted on arrival. I have no idea what happened before I got it. I may have made the mistake of rooting it really as I found out to my dismay there is no ROM support. So back to square one. I bought it ( very cheap for one of these ) "stuck and unable to go to the play store" and I did not realize until I got it, on a version of Android it was not meant for. Wacom is totally and woefully unhelpful in every way. They seem to want to quietly put this device behind them at the expense literally of their customers.
I have discussed this problem in another thread if more details on all this specific to this device are of interest.

Hello & welcome to xda-assist,
If you rooted the device you changed the system /kernel in the process, if root is all you done you should be able to unroot by using the unroot option in your root management application, if you did further changes like deleting system apps and so on it gets more complex, the best and easiest way to get back to the original state would be a copy of the latest firmware.. If it doesn't exist you're somewhat out of luck, please refer to this link for further help & information..

Thanks for the reply. So no way to get the extract the original firmware? I don't wish to un-root. The device was set to a very sad state of affairs when I got it, unrooted, with something very unlike the stock firmware and factory date reset not helping at all. Persistently locked into a lower version of Android than it was not meant for and not running the drivers or software it would seem I need to make it function properly that came with the device.
Basically it lead to my curiosity of how one goes about extracting or mining the data that is stored somewhere on the device if all I did was root. Which is all I did.
It should still be there. Basically how do I get to it?
The link takes me back to the forums for help, however I found no help there after much searching before I asked here but thanks

The intended of xda-assist is to direct you to the most suitable board of xda, we do not solve issues for you or do technical support, please be patient, it often takes time for exotic devices / questions to be seen by someone who can give hints and answers..
Edit: but it's not that the original firmware is stored somewhere on the device by default where you can grab it and reinstall it..

Totally cool. It's a tough question.
The OG firmware thing is the toughest part to understand. Just wanted to make sure I was clear in my explanation and question.
