[Buying Guide] Android Phones under rs15000 [100$-250$] - Android General

The 15K budget has been a sweet deal for those not wanting to spend extra on their latest android phones. If you’ll actually see, it makes a lot more sense than over splurging on a phone, because every new phone becomes ‘old’, after a 6-8 month cycle. So, here’s what we think are the top smartphones you could buy between Rs.10,000 and Rs.15,000.
SE Live with Walkman
It’s small, but it’s fast and powerful. It’s got a 1GHz processor and is future proofed as well. The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman is the only one in this category that is definitely going to get Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony’s hit a really sweet deal for consumers with the Live with Walkman, at this price point.

Here are the specs of the SE Live with Walkman:
3.2-inch scratch resistant capacitive touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, DLNA
GPS with A-GPS support
Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 720p video recording
Secondary VGA camera
Stereo FM radio with RDS
Memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
3.5 mm handsfree socket
HTC ChaCha
The Facebook phone, HTC ChaCha is one of the few Android phones that has a very good keyboard. Plus, most will agree with us that Sense UI brings an entirely different experience to users. It may have a small landscape screen, but as we saw in our review, we had absolutely no problems browsing or manoeuvring through the fluid interface. As an added bonus, it’s got some brilliant Facebook integration.
Here are the specs of the HTC ChaCha:
2.6-inch capacitive touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass and a 480 x 320 pixel resolution
3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
GPS with A-GPS support
Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0
5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 480p video recording
Secondary VGA camera
Stereo FM radio with RDS
Memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
3.5 mm handsfree socket
HTC Explorer
Another relatively tiny smartphone, but another impressive one. The HTC Explorer is a budget Android, but it’s fluid like cream. In our review, this one did even better than the LG Optimus Net, which had a bigger screen and a faster processor (as opposed to the 600MHz one on the Explorer). Sense 4.0 has been included to elevate your Android experience as well. The Explorer is just a little above Rs.10,000 and makes for a great budget Android.
Here are the specs for the HTC Explorer:
3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
GPS with A-GPS support
Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0
3.15 megapixel camera, 480p video recording
Stereo FM radio with RDS
Memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
3.5 mm handsfree socket

There's has been a lot of invaders in this community lately, i hope they learn how to read the "book of knowledge".

Not bad for that cost!

I recommend the HTC Explorer

I recommend Galaxy S2, S3 which after 10 years, price will drop to around 5000 to15000 Rs.

That is one sexy ************! maaaaan
Definitely considering the Sensation. I'm patiently waiting for the HTC event tonight! I was thinking about the SGS2 but the draw of the qHD screen is too much for me. The only worry I have is the locked down bootloader, especially seeing as the DHD has such an active development forum now.
Regards.
If that has Dolby Mobile then I will sell my DHD and buy it, but I don't like the screen's aspect ratio.. DHD the BEST..

It will be hard to choose between Sensation and SGS2 ...
It would've been the Sensation for me, but being stuck with my Nokia E65, I'm not willing to wait any longer! SGS2 it is!
EDIT: I was unaware that I was posting in the DHD section.
That is one sexy looking phone. However I just got my first full week with the DHD and could not be happier. I made the jump from an LG V360(?)(LG Rumor), and honestly, the DHD has exceeded my expectations. It will be interesting to see the updates on Sense and whether or not the DHD will get them as well.
By the way, hello everyone, I am new to this forum but I like what I am seeing so far. Great community indeed!

If you check this video it says the Sensation has Hi-Fi audio. I hope that means HTC is using better loudspeakers from now on cause the Desire HD's just plain sucks.
Hmm looks like the Sensation also has bluetooth 3.0 with support for HID. So now we can use bluetooth controllers with Sense
http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html
Man, this looks SO damn sexy! Having said that, we are very lucky to have such a damn good single core phone, and a VERY excellent and active development section.
The locked down bootloader could be very bad
Hopefully we can get the new Sense 3.0 for our HDs!
Do you think we will get Sense 3.0 with our 2.3 update for the DHD?

No i don't think so. The leaked versions in the development section have Sense 2.1. Also i doubt HTC will give us DHD users the new Sense before the Sensation is even out (it's coming out next month or so).

The HTC One S which is the younger sibling of the HTC One X will be launching in India early next month.
The Qualcomm powered Android phone has got priced at Rs.33000 on TheMobileStore.
I personally prefer the One S over the One X and I would call the One S the iPhone of the Android world. The handset has got a release date of 8th June on the retailer’s website.
Rs.33000 seems a bit steep for the One S. Ideally I would like to see it priced at around Rs.30000 considering the international pricing but then the high dollar is to blame.

Its for sale in Naaptol for Rs.28000. guess i will wait a month or so for the price to come down.
Thanks for the info guys! This is the only phone that can possibly stop me from getting the S3.
Are HTC launching in India officially, or are these handsets being acquired from some sort of sidelines? If so, what about the warranty and service?

Launching officially in India next month with full HTC warranty.
Yup dual core A15 kraits are pretty good and can compete against the old quad A9.You can go with One S.This is gem of a phone.
Can't Wait!!
Had bought my Sensation for 29K and lost it within 4 months in December..
Didn't buy another phone and been using a BB Bold cause i was waiting patiently for this beautiful device to come to our shores..
Want the Black one.. Shame on the MAO problem.. Guess will have to get the Grey (Hope the grey one comes).. Don't want a case but heard so many negative things about how slippery it is..

Man, I've been waiting for this phone for a LONG time! Though I think 33k is a bit too much, I feel that upon release, the price will be lesser. Can't wait to get this phone. Almost got the giant One X before I realized that it's too big for me.
The Mobile Store now lists the price as Rs. 0. So don't think it's gonna be 30,000.
I am Going to Get One From USA
I will be happy if i would be able to install the Indian Rom
I bought one from Europe. Nice phone, but I am gonna get S3 for myself.
Flipkart told me on twitter that they expect it around June 15th with a price range if about 31-33k. I also fear it might have the Snapdragon S3 processor instead of the S4 Krait processor.

So the HOS finally shows up on the HTC website. But as suspected, the Processor seems to be the Snapdragon S3 instead of the S4, as the clock speed is now 1.7GHz.

That's it. I ain't getting this phone anymore. **** YOU HTC!!!
I am amazed it's priced this way..... the only reason would be if they are giving bundled Beats earphones with this....as this is Sensation XE price now...
You think an overrated headset would compensate for installing an older generation CPU and trying to conceal it with the label "dual core" yet have the audacity to price it like that?
Please...
Am so Dissapointed & Dejected!!
I waited for months just for this specific device and we end up getting S3..
I just have no idea which phone to buy now..
Hate the SGS3 because of touchwiz..
Hate the HOX because of the horrible battery & screen flexing..
Am using a BB since i lost my sensation but looks like i might have to stick to BB for another year!!
Now one s with S3 processor ,means its equivalent to senstion or XE . If its priced around 30k , then its not worth to buy. I will buy it if it is priced around 23k , either i will go for galaxy s2.

Goodbye HTC!

The HTC M7 is your next Androphone and it will be the next flagship for HTC ?

I open this thread to know if it's for you the M7 will be the new flagship of HTC.
Everybody knows that the big date of the mobile telephony is the Motive World Congress in Barcelona on February.
But HTC announced M7 in Las Vegas ... and new Sense 5.0 also....
...the HTC M7 is currently running on Android 4.1.2 (which may be updated before launch) and a new version of HTC Sense (most likely HTC Sense 5.0) with an updated “simple and clean” UI.
... our source has debunked the recent rumor that the HTC M7 will feature on-screen buttons.
Specs on the HTC M7 are said to include a quad-core processor (rumored to be a Qualcomm APQ8064), a 4.7-inch 1080 x 1920 display (that’s 468 ppi for those keeping count), 32GB of internal storage (no expandable storage slot was visible on the phone) and is currently being tested on Sprint’s LTE network.

Give us your impressions and what do you think about this new device ?
The big question.is : will it be dev friendly? Will they ease the port of aosp roms?
If yes then yes.
I personally don't see the advantage of this over any other 1080p phone which was actually announced at CES. It has a relatively small battery, weird button placement, no SD slot, Sense and generally looks a lot uglier than an Xperia ZL (at least in my opinion). The bezel is far too large and the camera seems to be placed a bit lower down than on most phones. I liked this general design for Windows Phone but I don't think it really works properly on Android devices.

It should have the krait 600, more storage and android 4.2 out of the box, but I think that this wont be the flagship but just an high end device like the one s and the flagship will be a tegra4
Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
The main reason I've never bought an HTC phone is that they never make it clear which product is the flagship. I thought the One X was going to be the flagship until the One X+ came out half a year later.
And now the Droid DNA comes out, only have a slight improvement only a few months later?!
And why names like DNA and M7? That just confuses customers. Something like Two X or One X2 would make much more sense as names for the next flagship. This is part of the reason why Apple and Samsung are so successful, they create a single product that goes through iterations of improvements (iPhone # and Galaxy S#). It keeps customers following the series.
when can HTC Corp learn from its past product mistakes?
They can just release a 5 inches SLCD 3 and imitate the cool design of HTC J butterfly with 13 MP camera and a SD card slot and an increase of battery power like the htc one x+
I can not understand why HTC really has poor strategy in catching the consumer's hype for a cool tech design and need for extra storage and battery life boost.
What I think is that they need to lower their sights. Samsung and Apple are getting all the glory so if they lower the amount of flagships in a year to one and lower the price to round about £300 so they undercut their rivals and get more customers. They won't do this but it nice to dream
The HTC M7 is anyway going to be an interesting device. But there are two points which are important for me (that doesn't means that they are important for everybody):
1. A huge battery capacity (3000 mAH +)
2. Dev - friendly device (unlocked bootloader, ...)
One thing I like about Android is the huge community. I like to test new stuff (ROMs, MODs etc). and it would be really annoying if you would have to stuck with the Sense UI. It's not that I don't like Sense at all (my first Android device was the T - Mobile G2 aka HTC Hero), but as I said, I like to test new stuff and Android lives by its huge community as well.
I could imagine that it comes with Tegra 4 instead of Snapdragon S4. Hopefully they already launch it with Android 4.2 and not with 4.1. If not, it would be nice if they provide 4.2 quickly after the release. But first of all I'll wait for the HTC M7 to be introduced and than I can rather say if I'm going to buy it.
And I hope that the design will be similar to the one of HTC Butterfly or HTC One X

[REVIEW] Star S9500

If you are interested in this phone, you can found it here:
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Star...mera-Android-4-2-1-OS-3G-GPS-Grey-316069.html
This thread is ONLY a review of the Star S9500!
The Support topic is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45918412#post45918412
The Review
The Star S9500 call me to attention because of the Quad Core processor and the 12.6MP camera only with 123€!
In that time I was searching for a new phone, but I won't spend more money than 150€. So I searched a bit, and I wont buy some phone in Portugal because of the low specs at the same price. I was looking to an SmartPhone that I could play great games at low price and with long battery life.
I saw the specs of the Star S9500, and I saw that included MTK6589 1.2GHz x4 processor with a great camera, large display and the 2800mAh battery, which for me was a great buy.
In some reviews of the Star cellphones the general people said that they have an overall good quality. So I bought this phone.
The problem started here: I waited for 3 months to receive the phone! It isn't GeekBuying's fault at all, was my country's customs. I had to pay an extra fee (35€) for the S9500. That wasn't a problem, it was very cheeper than any phone here.
I don't have the box in this city (I received in my holydays), so I can't show some pictures. But here is a picture from the GeekBuying's website:

It came with quite good Earphones (if you enable Bass Boost it has great quality for stock phones), with a average quality USB cable, an EU USB charger, two 2800mAh batteries and this case, which it seems to be good quality:
I turned it on with my SIM card, and it was easy to configure. Even the 3G network is configured. The MMS service is configured, but I don't know why it isn't working, but I don't bother with that.
There is some pictures taken in my home:

Don't focus on the GeekBuying's AnTuTu score! The real score is this, which is average, as I installed all my apps and I removed the china apps with MTKDroidTools (I will teach in the support topic):

It doesn't compare to an Quad Core Cortex-A9, but it is quite good for a Cortex-A7.
The screen resolution helps to the performance. As it is only FWVGA instead of HD, it has a difference of 1000 points, and some FPS improvements in general gaming, as if you change the resolution to 720p in Star S9500 it only decreases 500 points, as I will show later.
As you can see, the front camera is 4.9MP instead of 2MP as claimed in the GeekBuying.
It is very smooth. The battery gets drown if you play more than 12h of Real Racing without stopping, and it can last 2-3 days only with SMS and net browsing, and that makes me satisfied.
The bad point is the ROM. It only has 4GB of rom, which you only can use 1.5GB of them for internal storage and 1GB for apps, and the rest for system. That can be solved with a 32GB Micro SD Class 10 card, which I would buy from 22€.
NOTE: The camera came pre-set at 8MP, but in the camera options you can change to 12.6MP, as I will show in support topic!
Here is two pictures with the rear camera, one at day light (1,16MB) and other at night with flashlight (2,29MB):

I didn't take any pictures with the front camera, but I used it many times to do video calls from Skype and it has very good quality has expected for a 5MP camera.
Now about the apps. If you don't remove the china apps, it will appear a folder called mtklog in the internal memory that will be raising the size minute after minute, only with system logs until you run out of space! It's secure to remove, but it will appear in less than an hour.
After I solve all my problems with the phone, I can see that I have a good product, but without any support.
You can post here questions about the phone!
I will create a topic for support for the Star S9500, but you can do questions while it isn't created!
Best regards,
Ivan Santos.
Malware on S9500 at time of shipment!
Hello, I bought my S9500 in Dec-2013. I installed AVG and was immediately warned that OperaService was malware. I thought this cannot be true and ignored the warning. Recently it has been reported that the Star N9500 has been proven to ship with Malware. I have been in touch with G-Data (the company that reported on the N9500), they are almost certain that my phone, S9500 was shipped with Malware installed at the factory.
Bummer, it is a great phone for the money.
So, I got my money back from Amazon, and I think I get to keep the phone. Score!!!
My question (note that I'm new to digging into phones).
If I root the phone, will I be able to remove the OperaService (cannot remove it right now as phone is NOT rooted). I don't care about support anymore, that has obviously gone...
I understand that I may ruin the phone. But with advice from the Forum, I hope to keep it at give it to my daughter.
FYI, I replaced the S9500 with a Nexus 5. Wow, what a great device.

HEllo, just the 3 most important points on chinaphones:
1-Flash Led Power (Compare with another phone if you can, a samsung, an iphone or eben a huawey)
2-Loudspeaker for music/handfree phonecalls
3-GPS (maybe after a root and GPSFix, since 99%of chinaphones are setted on chinese GPS server)
Thank you very much.
I should add that now that you can find a Samsung 3 Neo for €170 I don't know if I would pay more than €100 for this phone

I haven't heard a whole lot about real world results of the MeidaTek processor, but the specs look strong. Would love to know who makes the 24mp camera. Also look forward to seeing battery life results from gsmarena.com.
This looks like a legit top shelf phone for half of the price. I will be keeping my eyes out. And great that it is a US company that isn't stupid Apple.
Really incredible - I heard about interesting price.

Its the OmniVision OV23850 camera sensor.
This device has really caught my eye! Just wanted to drop a very minor correction on the Blu Pure XL image. The device does support Wi-Fi 802.11 AC. Just thought you may want to add that to the image.
The only things I see people wondering about (myself included) is:
1. Updates (How is this company about pushing out updates? With Marshmallow on the horizon, will it take 40 forevers to get it?)
2. No VOLTE Band 12 on T-Mo's network (Is this a deal breaker?)
Never thought I'd get a 6" device, but that may change come October.

The hardware should be able of recording 1080p 60fps. But i dont know if the phone actually can do it.
External SD? Yes? No? Nipples?

Anyone know if this phone supports Miracast or other image mirroring?
This is what Tmobile said regarding band 12 and unlocked phones http://www.tmonews.com/2015/08/t-mo...in-unlocked-smartphones-put-in-the-spotlight/
Can anyone confirm removable battery? This is a huge help for an avid traveler like me. The rest of the specs already have me sold though. The only other things I might have desired are 4GB RAM, front flash, and shipping with unlocked bootloader, and source code available...
My searches say neither this or the Gionee Elife E8 have removable batteries.

No go bro. The only mention of any type of memory in the post or the picture is the 64Gigs of internal and the 3Gigs of RAM. There is no mention of external SD card.

this is a Gionee Elife E8 but sold under blu for a fraction of the price so this is a great phone for an awesome price and the value for money will be incredibly hard to beat

Does anyone know how well the Cortex A53 stacks against the Snapdragon 810 AND how well PowerVRG6200 is compared to adreno 430?
What do you guys think in comparing this phone to say Oneplus Two as well as Moto X Pure
The camera seems to be rubbish. Even the official photo samples look rubbish and washed out colors.
Noob shooting in auto?
Yes the device supports micro SD and is also dual sim capable

Look at some of the hands on videos posted on YouTube, the device definitely supports micro sd storage, with the back cover off, you can see the micro sd slot as well as dual sim slots.
On top of the posted videos, I've read it can support up to 64GB on a micro SD. I bet it could do 128GB if attempted. Either way, I'm really excited about this device coming from an OPO. My only concerns are with the camera and updates. Everything else looks fantastic! Sept. 29 can't get here fast enough!
I'm hoping we can count on XDA for updates, as I don't see Gionee or Blu releasing many, if any. This is the same chip as the HTC one m9+ or whatever they call it, so there should be some support there for the SoC.
Everything I'm seeing says this is dual sim with a Micro SD slot once you remove the back cover, so storage isn't a concern. However, even with the cover off, the battery is highly unfortunately non-removable.
The Elife line for Gionee is centered on having great cameras. The specs on this camera are excellent, especially the autofocus speed. F/2.0 is nice as well. But we'll have to see what the real life results look like.
Here's a link with some more useful specs...
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/BLU-Pure-XL_id9639
The only two things that concern me are camera quality and how well the fingerprint sensor works. If the reviews are good, I'll probably pull the trigger on this one.
