Not until after the exynos gs II. I'm guessing April or May at the very very earliest.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727

not until official ics and we will have cm9. I am sure slayher will be working on cm9 for t989 so we can just flash that with our cm9 kernel.

Since one of the major hurdles for porting CM9 to our and other devices is the closed source nature of certain drivers and the fact ICS hasn't been ported to our chipset, we will have to wait until an official build is released that contains the same or similar hardware. Touchpad CM9 is dealing with the same issue for camera and hardware video accel. at the moment.

ya kinda guessed that. i know xboarder and some other devs are working on just getting ics on the thing. i might be able to get a cm7 or aosp gingerbread kernal goin but i will have to see how busy i am. just wanted to see if anyone had any "insider info"

i will be working on evervolv (aosp ics with a few tweaks)

Well we Da_G has cm7 Kernel and its really good ppl at t989 uses his kernel too. Since we don't have full source for cm7 its has couple bugs!!!!

here is a quote from the man himself
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow.

It's amazing how this plays 720p youtube flawlessly while WebOS lags.

[Q] Gingerbread ROM for Galaxy 3

Hi All,
I am using my Galaxy 3 on Froyo for sometime now and now I would like to upgrade to Gingerbread. I am not allowed to post under Development threads. Hence I have this post here.
Please let me know if there is any Gingerbread ROM available.

No, there's not such ROM... developpers still work on Froyo... the others wander whether G3 supports or not Gingerbread and whether Samsung will support or not Gingerbread on G3...
Samsung won't release gingerbread for our phones, I can guarantee you that. We're lucky if we get froyo.
First, is the hardware limitation
Second, there's no point for samsung to officially release it to our phone. We're not paying them anything anymore, It's much more profitable to release a new phone with gingerbread in it. That's how biz-nes works.
@thom47 there is NO hardware limits... if phone runs froyo it can also run gingerbread
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
I know it can run it technically and people can cope with it, but can Samsung agree to the performance of it is a different thing. But well, we're not getting it anyways so let's not get our hopes up

well if we would have good devs they could port it to sg3 from sgs, i mean how hard could it be?? (YES, i know VERY hard)...
There are not many significant features/improvements in Gingerbread over Froyo..I would be happy to get official Froyo soon..and maybe Cyanogen Mod later

I agree,
a stable Froyo + some usable custom ROM is much more important then still a newest version.
There are not significant advantages - and our hardware (no 3d acceleration, no JIT) has its limits

Why should JIT be a matter of hardware?
MAD-Team has enabled JIT for the G5 too...
Anyway it's very cool to have gingerbread because of the lock animation

for that attitude Samsung will ruin their business very soon just because of no customer support.

Yes, we don't have any official samsung gingerbread release for galaxy 3 but we do have few custom ROM's with 2.3 firware...you can try it to get the experience of gingerbread
example-- Darky's ROM, CM7( wok in progess ) etc

Ice Cream Sandwich?

So seeing as google just had their conference as well as the release of the ICS SDK, will we be able to see some ROMS come to our device? I don't know anything about coding or any of this stuff, but ICS does look tasty.
SDK is for app develop... not for Rom developing =(

I am interested to see if CM will make use of this now! I have CM7.1 on my phone right now and love it over ASOP 2.3.4. Any one know if they will work on moving to the 4.0 source now?
Well, a off-topic comment on AndroidCentral said that XDA already has it's hands on the Nexus system dump.
I have a viewsonic gTablet too, and I have tried some ROMs based on Honeycomb "dumps" from the Xoom, I was very unimpressed (by no fault of the developers, they did amazing work on porting things) so I think I will wait on roms built from source rather than a dump from phone with different hardware.
CyanogenMod 9 (yes, that's right: 9) will be based on ICS. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before we see it on the DHD/Inspire.
I was more interested in the 4.65" 1280x720 display. The pixel density is almost the same as a iPhone 4

Why not 8? Is the CM team going to skip 8 in favor of 9?
Also, from all the information I've read, nobody still makes a clear statement on this: Is Ice Cream Sandwich hardware accelerated? Because if it's not, that's a huge shame.

CM8 will be honeycomb (3.0) if the source ever gets released... which would make ICS (4.0) CM9.
Let me google that 2nd question for you
Ha - not being a ****, just always wanted to use a lmgtfy link
They could technically make something based on the SDK (something DeeperBlue did for the Nook Color with Honeycomb), but since we expect a soon-ish source release for ICS, putting all of that work into it would be kind of ridiculous
Yes it will be hardware accelerated

yes it will be able to run it, seeing as we saw it being tested on a nexus s, which has less ram and what in my opinion is a crappier processor(still pretty good though), so im pretty sure itlll run it just fine

There is a nice ICS ADW theme out there right now. No functionality, but the look and feel is cool.

ics source coming at nov.17

The CEO of Notion Ink, Rohan Shravan, is at it again with news about the Ice Cream Sandwich source code release, saying it will be released November 17. While it's tempting to just toss this aside as another rumor in the ICS/Galaxy Nexus craze of late, Mr. Shravan has a track record that shows he's usually right. Last year, he did the same thing with the Gingerbread release, accurately predicting more than could be a good guess, and just last month he told everyone about the OMAP chipset and Ice Cream Sandwich using them as a reference platform. When he talks, it's always worth listening, and the Nov. 17 date has already been thrown out there as the European release. If we see source code on the 17th, the 18th is going to be a very fun day for a lot of us.

No, the ICS Source Code will be made available to the public on Nov 17th. This means that Developers will be able to start working on ICS for a specific device. The advantage here is that the SGS II has a huge fan-fair also is quite open with development and has kick azz hardware, hence it will most likely be picked up for development right away with results to show soon after.
I won't lie, after reading this, I got really excited. For the past few weeks, I've been using MIUI, but once a stable ICS ROM comes out (I'm hoping/guessing CyanogenMod), I think the pure AOSP experience will be even better

We've all been patient, and regardless of whether it's Nov.17th, or slightly later, ICS is coming soon, and it will be a whole new level of operating system
Personally, I've been passing the time with Shadowgun on my I9100 (thank you Chainfire3D )
Wait a minute, Google are hosting a big Android event on the 16th! Good chance that that means they'll release the source code the day after the event, or on the day (if we assume the difference in date due to time zones). This adds a lot more credibility to the idea
I am a bit concerned about the date that Samsung is going to release ICS for SGS II.
Wouldn't this still be unusable on our SGS2 unless they release a device with proper drivers for the mali400?

Regarding drivers there is not going to be any big changes from 2.3.7 to 4.0. So it wont be a problem. Official drivers may be more optimized .

I think that's a lot of wishful thinking to expect it this month, at least a stable build for us to use on a daily basis.

as their source are closed and hard coded so well, lets hope we can enjoy to "port"
but a official i asked on their page but no answer lmao
I've never been a MIUI fan myself, though I can understand why people like it.
With respect to the TF, I really can't see the point until at the very least MIUI is updated to ICS.
Regards,
Dave
MIUI will make it a knock off iPad. i honestly never really liked MIUI, i mean i run it every once in a while but meh...
From what I saw on the MIUI site, can't say I see why so many people love it or hate it but then again I usually keep things pretty AOSPy anyway.
I think there is an MIUI ICS ROM for the Optimus One or MyTouch 4G, so I assume there is or will be an ICS based MIUI, therefore tablet support is probably half-implicit there. So someone could probably port it if they cared to work on it. Me, eh, I'll stick with something closer to stock.

miui is based off of cyanogen mod so you need a port of cyanogen mod before you get a miui port. since 7 was gingerbread 8(honeycomb) is not hppening you will have to wait for cm9 which is confirmed for the transformer then you can start a port of miui
CM9 first alphas (KANGs but still) are coming soon, and as the TF is one of the mainstream Tegra2 tablets, it will surely get official MIUI support.
Porting should be easy as the binaries are ARMv7 on both side, it's the graphics what are problematic. MIUI Team (and Xiaomi) has to develop a brand new extensive system for tablets, and such, it will take time. Although Xiaomi already posted some screenshots about MIUI 4.0, so we are currently waiting.

A version for the HP Touchpad has emerged, and there are MIUI lockscreen and launcher projects for phones, maybe they release them for tablets sometime.
I love MIUI on a phone, on a tablet...I'm not so sure I would.
About iOS vs MIUI...from iOS I don't think they're really worth comparing, they have cosmetic similarities but they're totally different experiences IMO.

CM9 can definitely be a precursor to MIUI for the transformer. I've worked on MIUI for my phone (Samsung Epic 4g) and it uses the CM7 kernel. If we get a working CM9 kernel then it shouldn't be a hassle to get ICS MIUI on the transformer.

[Q] Android 4.0 for Infuse

Now that samsung has released the kernel source for Android 4.0 for the Galaxy S2, can we expect a build for the Infuse 4G?
Im looking forward to input from Dman. That may be helpful if the Infuse and S2 share similar hardware specs. That would be awesome!!

I'm interested in contributing.. but I'm new to custom ROM development. With a little help I can get started.
What we need is for someone to port the kernel from SGS (Captivate, i9000, Vibrant).... ICSSGS kernel would be a great place to start. Another option would be to use the Galaxy Tab 7.0 as a starting place.
If the kernel won't boot, hook up UART and it will tell you where the kernel stops booting.
I can't work on this myself. I am very busy on several devices.
