[Q] .eml files - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
The problem with .eml files forwarded from hotmail via a windows mobile phone up to date came from the phone or from hotmail?
Can't forward a simple jpg or wav file the exact same way I got it.
Is it a setting somewhere?
thanks

OK, totally not sure what you're asking about here... but I only know of a few settings that affect the email system, an dI don't think any of them are what you're looking for (though I really don't know). Please explain what your problem is,a nd what the desired solution is, more clearly.

WHen I get an email on my phone, via hotmail. With an attachment (in this case, a jpg) and I forward it to someone else, this person received my email, but the jpg file is now ending with .eml instead.
Same for a wav file or PDF. And it's only when I do it from my phone on my hotmail account
With gmail, I don't have this issue.
I don't wanna disable my hotmail account or forward it to my gmail, I wanna keep both.
My phone is a Samsung Focus i917R with OS 7.10.8107.79
thanks

OK, now that I understand what the problem is... I really don't know what's happening. Is it the original attachment just getting renamed, or is the original email being forwarded *as* an attachment (.EML = email message file)? Some mail clients do that by default, and almost all offer it as an option (include original message as attachment when forwarding).
You could also check your Hotmail settings (on the web), see if there's anything about this behavior in there. The fact that the phone only does this on your Hotmail account suggests that the problem quite possibly isn't the phone, but the service. That, I can't really help you with.

Yes it's only the file. The original email is intact.
I'll check on my hotmail settings on the web to see if there's a setting somewhere.
Thanks for you reply

Really out of luck. Can't find nothing to solve it on my hotmail web account.
It's only happen from my phone. I'm using m.hotmail.com to have the push notification.
I'm having the same setup with my Ipod Touch and it's working fine! So, I think it's more a device OS issue

Same here
I tried it, i'm using hotmail now, but that is unbelievable!
If I forward any message then it will be an attachment! If the email that I frowarded got an attachment too, then the message is in the forwarded email, but the attachments goes to the .eml!
What can we do with it?

It's a pain, and a non sense

even same problem here.
I just sent a document from my hotmail to self (using pc)
and then I have forwarded the same mail to other person from windows phone.
It added extra .eml file to attachements.
Where can i file this bug in WP7?

I have the same problem but it happens with all emails (with and without attachments).
All emails are being forwarded inside an .eml attachment and not as inline text. It happens on my wife's phone (Samsung Galaxy S / Android) so the problem probably has to be caused by the application.

Windows Live Mail Attachment Problem

Really weird problem. I have my Vonage account setup to deliver a copy of my voicemail as a wav attachment to my hotmail account. I use the Live Mail program on my Vox to access my hotmail and it works pretty good. It's setup for push email and as soon as i get a new message, im notified immediately. Problem is when i get the email from Vonage, it indicates that there is an attachment by the paperclip on the envelope in the inbox, but when i open the message theres no attachment. I thought it may have been an attachment problem, so I downloaded the email on my computer and then sent it to hotmail from my work email and voila the attachment was there and opened without a problem. Any ideas? Is there some setting that I have to allow attachments from a particular sender?
VOXes have a lot of problems, I have a customer with so many problems and I goin to revert "upgrade" procedure

Email - How to dont delete emails (keep them in server)

Hi guys
Well, i searched many times, in google, and here about this, but nowhere i found a resonsable solution for this, that is not exactly a problem.
I have an HOTMAIL account, and a PT-EU rom (official) (abit old) and i have the live mail ( i believe that already came with ) and i receive emails normally.
SO where is the problem?
The problem is: I do not want to delete emails form the server. Just copy to my cellphone, then if i delete from it, the email keeps in the server.[/SIZE]
Everytime i sync with wifi, all deleted emails from my TOUCH PRO (T7272) are also deleted from the server (hotmail).
I have an outlook in my job that does that (in my house, i lost many days trying to configure... and still doing the same thing as my phone, deleting the messages from the server, even worse, couse delete after transfer to the computer...)
ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION?
I know for [email protected] there is @ setting to [email protected] PPop or something [email protected] keeps your [email protected] in the server when you delete it from cell. Sorry I'm no help
i use gmail and it just labels my e-mail as "deleted item" and then removes it from my inbox. but its still in there. check if its in another folder in hotmail.
How have you got your Hotmail account configured, I use my live (hotmail) email address on my phone, configured to get my emails using POP3, with the "Keep messages on the Server" box checked, knowing how you've got your phone configured would be helpful.
well
sorry
my configuration isnt by that type, and well, i think you just told me the sollution.
The way the thing is, is that i have program from microsoft, "live mail" that comes with messenger and some other things. I just needed to login into messenger to it configures my email to receive messages.
I will try to delete it, and try to configure by pop3
Thank you.

Can't open PDF Attachments with Email Client

I apologize if this has been asked before, but i haven't been able to find what i need through search tool.
We're demoing a Galaxy Tab here at work, and one thing we have got stuck on is the email client. We use Domino email server, so when setting up the email account options, we chose "other" for the account type. This works, we can send and receive mail just fine; however, there is one problem. When we receive a PDF attachment, there are no options to view/preview/save the attachment. We've installed Adobe Reader from the market to see if that would help, but no luck.
We can receive text files and other files and view them without issue. We also tried sending the same PDF attachment to our test gmail account. The gmail client opened the attachment without any problems.
Any ideas? Is this a strange issue with the "other" account type ? We're stuck.
Well it works fine here using the email app (not the gmail one) with a gmail account
Maybe because i updated to Firmware JM6? I don't know..
I have a corporate account configured on my tab (Zimbra) and everything is fine using the standard mail app (I can fetch and open attached pdf files).
Have you tried to configure the account through Accounts and Sync in Settings, instead of using the mail configuration in mail app? Don't know if it an be different, but I have configured that way and it's working .. just remember to disable contacts sync if you don't want to mesh contacts from corporate
Install Blackmoon attachsave from the market

[Q] HTC Mail, Exchange ActiveSync, and Plain Text E-mail

Hi all,
I'm a new Aria user on ATT (everything still completely stock and vanilla) and I've pretty much got everything setup for Exchange access via ActiveSync. I am able to set the HTC e-mail client to receive HTML formatted messages from our Exchange server. However, I get a fair number of basic plain text e-mails; i.e., there is no HTML information at all in the message body. When I open any message that happens to be plain text only, the e-mail client shows a blank message on open. I'm guessing it's because the application is looking for HTML information, and it finds none. Regardless of message type (HTML or plain text or both), I always see the subject header no problem. If there is an attachment to the plain text e-mail, then I do see the attachment itself, but nothing else of the message body. If I change the message format setting to be Plain Text instead, messages that have already been sync'ed (using the HTML setting) are still blank, but new plain text messages are fine.
EDIT: Some additional info. I'm using Kerio MailServer as my Exchange Server. I have version 6.6 of Kerio, so I had to use the "allow unsupported devices" setting to get the account setup. As a test, I changed my Exchange ActiveSync setup to point to my gmail account; using that server, plain text messages sent to the account are displayed, and they appear to be using some kind of HTML formatting. I don't have a proper MS Exchange server to test out more fully. At this point, it looks to be more of a server issue than a mail client issue, but maybe a little of both. If anyone uses Kerio MailServer, I'd appreciate any tips or experience.
I haven't tried some of the other e-mail clients available; it seems like they all have their ups and downs. I have done a decent amount of searching, but did not find much on this specific issue. Is this problem a known issue (or can anyone replicate it), and is there any chance of fixing it? My preference would be to continue using the stock e-mail app, using the HTML format setting for ActiveSync e-mails, but actually be able to read plain text e-mails!
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions,
JEBroussard

Email Client Problem

I have a new TF700 and easily got the stock email client to sync up with my corporate Microsoft Exchange Active Sync server. Only problem is when I attempt to forward an email it always ends up bundling up the forwarded part of the email - including any attachments - into a *.eml attachment that apparently only MS Outlook understands. On a desktop with outlook you get this message with an attached message, click it, open it and there is the forwarded part of the email and the attachments. But if you forward to someone not with Outlook - i.e. Gmail, Yahoo, a blackberry, etc. it comes in as a nonmame.eml attachment and when you click to open it's just a bunch of text. All other email functions work properly. IT guys say it's a device/OS problem but I don't see anything to modify to make this work. Any suggestions?
I just tried to duplicate this and was unable to. I forwarded an email from my Exchange account on my Infinity to my gmail account. The email showed perfectly in gmail.
Have you tried forwarding to different people to verify it isn't just one specific user account issue? I am assuming you are using the Email app supplied with the tablet that is from Google.
