I used revolutionary to S off my phone, my phone gave me the option to do and over the air update to 2.3.5 I think it was. This would not install, I guess because I S-off'd it. It now no longer give me this option.
Can anyone on give me a link to get the update from and how to use revolutionary to install it, with sense 2.3.5. I could so with it being rooted so I can use internet tethering over bluetooth.
Cheers
I would recommend rooting your phone. Use superoneclick to do it. This program is pretty easy to use. Download it on your PC, connect your phone and just follow the instructions
if you haven't already:
Use rom manager and install clockworkmod recovery OR
use 4ext recovery updater to install 4ext recovery. 4ext is usually the preferred option
Both these apps can be obtained from the market
Then choose any rom you want from the development section, download the zip and place it on your SD card. Boot into recovery and wipe all your data. Then flash the rom.
This thread should give you the links and any extra information you might want:

that means nothing to me. I know how to use revoltionary I think, I just need to know which is the right sense 3.0 rom for my phone. Im in england
I'm not sure how much simpler I can put it!
if all of that means nothing try going on the link I put before and reading some of the guides in the general section
Some knowledge is needed to do all of this. But I assure you its pretty simple

Using rom manager I cannot find a HTC shipped version of the ROM. I just want the rom version my over the air update failed to complete, I was hoping if I could install this 2.3.5 using revolutionary it would update properly. I just need to know the right file and where to get it from.
Also if I flash a rom using revolutionary will i loose all my phone setup and data, I know if you do the OTA update all data is preserved.
Thanks for you help.
Ok with rom manager have you chosen the very first option to flash a custom recovery? If not, do it. Secondly, I would recommend you root before doing anything. Use superoneclick on your computer to do so.
Now you have a custom recovery (or should have). What you need to do now:
Download this rom if you want stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230029
Put it on your SD card. Then switch off your phone. Once its off hold volume down+power. You'll get into the bootloader. Choose recovery. You should then boot up into clockworkmod recovery. From here, I'd firstly strongly urge you to make a backup. Go to backup and restore and create backup.
Now do a factory reset. After its complete select choose zip from SD card. Then go to the rom you put on the phone. Select yes when you click it. Once its installed, reboot
Done
That's the best I can do. However ask any more questions if you need to.

One last question, will I lose the data and apps off my phone? I know when you do a rom upgrade on the over the air updates, it keeps all your data but will I lose the data on the phone if I do a rom upgrade this way?

You will. But if you root before doing this then you can download titanium backup from the market which will backup all the apps you want to. I believe it's a must have app when changing ROMs. There's also MyBackup Pro which will backup all of your stuff. Don't worry about your contacts though, just make sure they're synced with google in Settings > Accounts & Sync > Google

Need help with an issue using ROM Manager Premium. Cannot seem to find any info on solving my problem and no one has responded to my other post.
Tonight, when I tried to run another downloaded ROM in ROM Manager, the system simply rebooted and never installed another ROM. What am I missing or doing wrong. I have followed the few instructions I have found, but no luck addressing this issue. Please help!
From another post...
Sorry if I placed this in the wrong forum. Still getting used to this site.
z4Rooted Droid X user.
System version 2.3.340 - Android version 2.2.1
Having an issue with ROM Manager Premium 3.0.0.5 and Flash ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7...
After flashing clockworkmod recovery, I hit Reboot Into Recovery. The phone simply does a reboot and nothing more. I have tried several times.
Also using Launcher Pro Plus and Titanium Backup Premium.
Any help?
Not sure, but seems like either the phone isnt going into recovery, so try to install the rom without going into recovery.
If you want to flash a new rom that you downloaded from rom manager, you can do it without going into recovery. You just have to go into rom manager, choose "install rom from SD card, navigate to the file you downloaded and click it.
once you click the file you want to flash, it will ask you if you want to backup your rom and if you want to wipe data/cache. choose which ones you want to do, and press continue.
I recommend you create a backup and wipe data/cache.

Thanks a lot! I will give that a shot.
Is it possible I am missing some files or something like that needed to perform that recovery? Is a GummyJAR a good ROM?

Thanks, again. Yes, you are right. This site is a bit difficult to get use to. Feel like a forum n00b, and I certainly am not.
Also, not sure if you have done this yet, but you have to flash a recovery first in rom manager, before you can do pretty much anything.
the first option is flash clockworkmod recovery, choose that, then it may pop up something about cdma. choose that and it will flash a recovery, then you can flash the new rom.

Yes. I did indeed try that. It seems to flash without issue, but the problem still exists.
Not sure whats going on then. I think rom manager is messing up. you are gonna have to get it to go into recovery first before it will do anything.
Not sure how you get into recovery with the X, but with the incredible, you power down the phone, then hold the volume down button while pushing the power button.
If it still doesnt go into recovery, try and delete rom manager, then re install it, and flash a new recovery.
Also, could be a bad download, and you might have to redownload the rom.
If that doesnt help, better go to the X forums and look around.

Will do. One thing that has me concerned is, I am not even convinced ROM Manager has performed a successful backup of my current ROM, yet. Even though it seems to backup just fine. When browsing my SD card, I do not see the backup file ANYWHERE.
I do know how to get into the X stock recovery, but the menu items are very limited and I cannot create a nandroid backup.
I am going to try an uninstall/reinstall like you recommended and then take a look in the Droid X forums. Thanks again!!!
Sorry I couldnt help. My backups are in sd card/clockworkmod/backups.

No problem, man. You have given some great advice. I did a full uninstall, restart and re-install. No luck. Same thing.
Taking your advice and posting this in the Droid X forums.
It's funny, I have found a lot of posts about ROM Manager issues, but not many posts on the actual fixes.
Hello All,
I need your help regarding upgrade my captivate which is running on 2.1. I had hard bricked it once before when I was trying to update it via odin. Just got fixed it back from mobiletechvideos.com. Now I want to upgrade it to gingerbread Can anyone tell me any stable rom which I can upgrade safely and have 0% chance to hard bricked it again. Or any rom which I can flash via any other tool not via odin as I thought last bricked was caused due to odin. Pls help me.
I like the MIUI rom but I saw that it use ODIN so I am a bit afread to try it
Thanks
My understanding of the process.
I'm fairly sure you need to use superoneclick to root, that's step one. Next go to market and dowload ROM manager and install it, that's step two.Step three, flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager. Choose captivateMTD and let it flash. Step four, now go to the download ROM and choose an MTD ROM. I reccomend cyanogenmod as its aosp, overclocked and generally awesome. They have a stable build that's a great dd. Step five is to flash it. When the download completes it will promt you to wipe data and cache, clear everything and hit go. Step six would be to dl and flash gapps with ROM manager. Wipe cache and install. After all this you should be on cm7 stable. Pm me if you need help. I have the drivers and all files you could possibly need in my dropbox account.
Good luck and enjoy cyanogenmod.

You do not need to root your phone to install a custom rom.
If you currently are on 2.1, boot into recovery and flash this zip file.
From here you can go about installing a gingerbread kernel and rom.
If you are unsure of the process, please do lots more research before you go flashing anything. If you brick again it's not my fault.

Step One: Root Done
Step Two: ROM manager installation Done
Step Three: flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager (When I clicked on it asked me that confirm phone model and when I clicked on samsung captivate MDT it said that clockworkmod not officially supported the captivate MDT and have you installed clockworkmod based recovery manually if I clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and if I clicked no it said that without it rom manager will not work. If i clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and asked me the clockworkmod version 2.x or 3.x. I select one of them and click on the install rom from SD card and then browse to my downloaded rom when I clicked on rom and it will ask me to backup exsisiting rom, wipe data and cache and wipe dalvik cache. I had selected last 2 options and clicked ok then it asked me to press ok to reboot into clockworkMod Recovery and continue the installation when I clicked ok and rebooted where it showing me 4 options: rebbot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data and delete cache data. After that I don't know what to do BTW I downloaded MIUI rom as I wana try it )
Any Help ?
Its sounds like you are in the stock recovery still. When you get to the screen with four options click reinstall packages and it should take you to clockwork recovery. The you will have many more options. You will want to go to install zip from SD card then choose zip from SD card and then navigate to your rom of choice and click it. Then it will go through the install process and when it is done hit reboot now and you should be running your custom rom.

Get into cwm again via buttons and flash cm7 one more time. Should fix the error you're seeing.

Good Afternoon to all of you!
So here is my problem.
I S-Offed my HTC Sensation and afterwards installed Revolutionary Recovery following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Afterwards I installed the Firmware 3.30 and Virtuouse S4X Rom successfully on my device. But I wasnt to happy with this Rom so I decided I want to go for Energy Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226564).
Unfortunalety, the flashing of this ROM doesnt worked, while flashing it said "Status 1 Error". I searched in the post of this ROM and found out that its recommended to install it with a earlier release of Revolutionary Recovery or better with 4EXT Touch Recovery.
My big problem is: How do I install 4EXT Touch Recovery when I dont have any bootable ROM on my device anymore?? I tryed the Android Flasher but it didnt work...
Please help, I dont know what to do.
Best regardy,

Please tell me you have a nandroid back up to revert to. And are you SuperCID as well? If you did back up, just revert back to the prior rom, I assume stock Sense. Then go to the market or the threads here to download the 4ext recovery.
Ever get ur phone up and running yet?
First of all, I apologize if this is the wrong area to ask this question. I've been to two other forums with my question and have been told to sod-off without help because I posted in the wrong section
Okay, so I bought my first android phone the other day (HTC Inspire!) and I must say, I am never going back to an iPhone ever again.
However, I am a complete and total noob to rooting (as you will find out)
I successfully rooted my phone upon receiving it (with ACE Advanced Hack Kit) and upon trying to install a custom ROM, received an error (to which I cannot seem to remember specifically what it was). I called a friend who told me to re-run the hack kit, which was a bad idea. It ended up freezing on the radio downgrading and put my phone into a bootloop.
I got it out of bootloop after a few hours of research and reset the phone back to its original settings.
Now, my question is: My phone, in HBOOT, still shows that it is "S-OFF." Would it be okay for me to run it through Ace Advanced Hack Kit again to install CWM? I tried using ROM Manager to flash it over, but rom manager is saying my phone isn't rooted at all, which confuses me. I keep getting the error "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Any help or advice you guys can shed would be wonderful.
Once you are s off never run the hack kit again unless you are going to reverse to s on. Your friend gave you some bad advice. Rooted and s off are not the same thing. S off allows flashing of pd98img and custom recovery. Root is an ability within the Rom you use. From your phone install superuser from the market. That will give you root and will let you install a custom recovery through Rom manager. Only install recovery with Rom manager. Don't let Rom manager install a Rom as it is buggy at best. Or you can use 4ext recovery. Once you have a custom recovery do a backup so you can restore if things go wrong. Download whatever Rom you want to use then you want to always select (within recovery) wipe data/factory reset and then wipe dalvik. This should leave you with an empty data, cache and dalvik and also erases android.secure on sd card. Once there you can install a Rom. Never use the factory reset from Rom or hboot with s off as it will really screw things up. Also almost every custom Rom has superuser and busybox installed already so you shouldn't need to install superuser again.

I've installed SU from the play store, but when I go into ROM Manager, it is still saying superuser isn't installed, or I'm not rooted.
Actually you can use the hack kit again BUT you have to go into the optional menu and not use the main option of root.
In the optional screen their is an option to install cwr.
Or alternatively you can install cwr via a pd98img.

If you are S-OFF but flashed a RUU then you are not rooted anymore. You can do as Mardsta says and flash SU in CWM or if you are willing to flash a custom rom, just make sure that CWM recovery is installed and flash a rooted rom. The important thing is that you already are S-OFF.
Never run a non stock device....if you are already S-OFF there is no reason to re run the Hack Kit.

That's the thing though. I don't have CWM installed (going to recovery in HBOOT simply yields the red error symbol). I have SU installed, but because I am not rooted, it isn't being recognized by Rom manager. I apologize for my ignorance, but how exactly do I get CWM on my phone then? Is there a program that can root and flash it without messing with the S setting?

As marsdta said you can use the hack kits optional menu to flash cwm. You may have to put your phone into fastboot though to get it to recognize it. I'm not 100% on that though because I have never done it that way myself. Or you can use a pd98img.

Go to Google Play store and download 4ext recovery control. I like it much better than the cwm given by ace. All you need then is a rom dev'd for inspire or dhd. If it's for dhd then you need to also flash inspiremod so the gps and branding reflect north america and inspire 4g.
Hello xda community. I am a new noob here and I have some questions..
1.If I root my phone and then want to unroot it, how can I delete supersu and the recovery
2.If I install SuperSU with the recovery, can I get the pro version (buying it from the play store?)
3.If I flash a custom rom and then want to go back to the original rom, how can I do this?
Sorry for these questions (I don't know if I can find them easily) but I am not very good with computers
also does "ville" mean something?
Thanks

I'll try to answer your questions in order, but not 100% sure on all of them.
1. SuperSU has an unroot option in their settings. I'm running a modified stock and used that option. Seemed to work well for me.
2. I'm guessing that if you install SuperSU in recovery you can upgrade to pro from the store, but I'm not sure on that one.
3. You have a couple options to go back to the original. First, before you flash a custom rom, make a backup using your recovery (either TWRP or Clockwork). When you want to go back to stock, just use the restore option within your recovery. Keep in mind that backups take up a gig or two on the sdcard, so I usually just keep one on my phone and the rest on my PC. Second, you can find the correct RUU in the forum and run that, which will take you back to stock (I don't believe there is a JB RUU yet, so keep that in mind).
Ville is the codename for our phone (as far as I know). Most phones have a common name, like HTC One S, and a codename, like the Ville.
Good luck and welcome to the community.
Nick
