The methods for rooting the A500 don't work on the A200. I was wondering if anyone has had any success with this.
What I really intend to do is wirelessly pair the PS3 controller to it. Works fine over USB without a root, but who wants to deal with cables? NOBODY.
No clear documentation available in the dev forums for it anyhow, if there is a method. The lack of an A200 forum itself had me a bit cockeyed too.
Alternatively I've heard something about programming the tablet's MAC address into the controller? Haven't been having very good luck finding out more information on that through google, either.

At this time there is no root. Tab Is still purty new and has an update about to drop. Seems no one wants to work on it and then loose that work when ICS hits. There is no forum and may never be one. Hard to say. Sucks tho..the lamer a100 has one.....
yeah they just pushed a new update last night in fact.
Would probably be nice to lump the Acer tabs into one forum if thats the case.
Recieved ics update and waiting for root
So I got the ice update to the device and it works great. I'm hoping to see root instructions very soon. Does anybody know if someone is working in this?
---------- Post added at 09:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:25 PM ----------
Cause I can't post URLs yet I found "unlockroot . com"
So I found this site has anyone tried this as of yet. Says it can root ICS for the a200 so I'm actually curious if this works. I'm not able to do it till later tonight so if anyone gets a chance could you let me know if it works?
Tryed "unlockroot"
So I just got home and tried the unlockroot method with no success. i installed the drivers from acer put it in usb debugging mode. Clicked root and it showed the device. I didn't get any errors but the device did not root. Total bummer. If it works for any of you guys please let me know maybe i'm doing it wrong.
How would you know if its rooted?
how to know if you have root
If you install a root application and check if it works that's the best way to know. For instance if you try to install busy box it will fail if you don't have root. If you have root it will successfully install. That's the best way I know off.

First of all, I would like to thank in advance the guys who answer my questions.
1)I ve read some threads about Xoom and I see most of you are in 3.2 and in Europe we don't have even 3.1 . How can I make it to be a US version to get the updates? Is it safe or should I wait?
2)My first priority is to find a way to root my device. I saw a one-click root way but the files are offline from xda and it says that it has issues with EUR versions. Whats your advice? Can you help me with the steps because I dont have much android knowledge?
3)Whats your opinion about custom roms for Xoom and how can I flash from 3.01?
Thanks again, and if you have any suggestions on what apps you love using in your xoom it would be great
Apps go the apps section and read.
Changing to us version and flashing roms etc go to the development section and read.
You clearly don't like to chat m8, If I found a topic for EUR but the links are offline as I said before. There are people who like to share their knowledge thats why its a q/a thread and not app section or dev section.

Hi there, welcome to the Xoom family.
Like every family, some members like to talk and others don't.
It's true that the threads you want are mostly in the Development section.
Since you are on Wifi only it should be pretty easy for you to flash the US wifi image (you will actually find that in the 1st post in General) but you should read a bit just to make sure you know what steps to take. Also, language packs are available if you need a language other than English, French or Spanish, but there may be some complications.
I would advise you against using any type of one click rooting method. The Xoom is easy to unlock and root, but is more complicated than many phones. On the plus side, it's pretty hard to brick as long as you follow instructions. Prepare to use adb and you'll do fine. Once you've unlocked and flashed the US image, you will get the OTA updates as soon as you are on a wifi connection. This is where you need to see which rooting method will be best for you. You will need to install the Tiamat Clockwork Mod Recovery 3.2.0.0 (from solarnz's thread) so you can flash from the micro sdcard) There are ways to root from 3.0, 3.1 and from 3.2. Head over to the Development section and look for what you want. Once you are rooted, check out the Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.0 Manta Ray. It really rocks. You will have to wipe user data for many of these steps, so don't bother with setting up more than you have to until you are at you final destination, so to speak.
Good luck!

So how is the philly.com tablet anyway???
considering it was only $99.00 and it has an micro sd slot plus a USB port for flash drives. the one draw back is the fact we cant access the Market, but that will soon change by the end of the month when they release root and custom firmwares. i guess it really depends on what you want to use the tablet for. it plays games just fine. the hd movies i have watched on it plays with no skips. i was pleasantly surprised when i got it.
Sean,
Definitely interested in the root/firmware. The Amazon market is nice but missing a lot of great apps.
You can just pull apks from an android phone or download online and install on the tablet, but just make sure they dont ask for google permissions.

So, I got my 10 G2 a few days ago, bought it for €150 ($200) and I gotta say that I am very impressed. The device itself is sturdy and well build, the screen is excellent and responses well to touch (as far as android goes). The design is nice and the specs are impressive. I must say that the firmware could do with some upgrading though, and I can´t wait for a custom firmware. The Appslib is not all that good and the lack of Android Market is prominent. Word around the block is that Ice Cream Sandwich will run on most older devices, so it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be true and how it will flow on the 10 G2. At the moment I am trying to root the OS and hope this will improve things until a custom firmware arrives. I can sincerely recommend this tablet though, especially for the retail price. I suspect that the 10 G2 will become a hit and that will hopefully lead to a lot of support and custom tweaks. If you are thinking about buying one, do it.

I saw the post on the release of this on the Arctablet blog, but can't find the market which the post says is available. We have a custom app that needs to be installed through the market to work.
Has anyone seen the rom?
It seems that the creators of the custom rom have some delay.
I read somewhere that the rom will be ready somewhere this month.
A few years ago I got a MIO P550 pda; there was someone who created a custom rom for it to enable windows mobile 6.1 on this device.
The creator of that ROM posted somewhere that it was coming very soon.
I waited over a year until it was ready. (And still it was not 100% complete).
I hope that the creators of the custom rom for the Arnova 10 G2 will work faster than the creator of the rom for my Mio device.
I would like to thank people that spend their time for creating custom roms for our devices. It seems that it's not always easy to do.
And they surely deserve respect for it.
We can only wait and have patience.
I'm looking everyday on the net to see if I can find a link to it, so when it's ready and the link isn't posted here yet (because a lot of others are searching to, I guess) I will post it here.
Arnoa 10 g2
I too bought an Arnova 10g2 and although so farI am pleased with this sub £200 tablet I am too desperately trying to find a root and/or custom firmware.
In the mean time I will have to perserver with trying to add google apps.
I thought I should be able to connect this in debugging mode plug it into my pc and us superoneclick to root but so far my pc fails to identify its driver!
I have installed the google developer usb drivers but no joy and I haven't found out what he button configuration is for the boot menu like my galaxy s, do i assume that I need a specific Arnova driver or am I missing something?
It seems that the root has been delayed again. It appears the devs have other more important tablets to root before our arnova g2 10. I guess we are gonna have to take it upon ourselves to Leeann how to root. If anyone is interested in learning our trying just PM me and we can figure it out.

Also want to know if it's possible to flash cwm or 4ext recovery on this tablet.
i keep on searching the net for new information, nice to see there's a thread here about the 10 G2

Yes, we now have a working custom firmware to add Android Market support and root to the Arnova 10 G2, it should be released in the coming weeks.
This was posted a month ago......so don't get it.....if the firmware is working, why don't post it
Let there be ROOT!!!!
The reason for this thread was to maybe get one of our wonderful devs here at xda to maybe help us arnova g2 owners out. I am looking into how to root as we speak. I will work hard on trying to get us a root and custom firmware ASAP. To answer your question about why the devs won't release what they have already is. I believe its not fully running. Its their project and they can do whatever they choose with it. I always believed in sharing and letting the community help out with bugs and such, but that's just me. I hope to have something close to root or even full root ASAP.

This is a relatively new phone, but rooting is almost the same for motorola, try superoneclick, z4root, etc. What's the worst that could happen? And also, since this is a device specific forum you are posting on, I suggest you be more polite with your answers so you get replies, believe me, if this was in another device forum, you'll get enough bashing till the end of the year. Just saying.
Again, try the above methods, get back to us on how it goes, you'll have to try something first, not everything is served.

z4root.
It's fail.

Someone got root this smartphone?
Google Universal Androot, download to sdcard, use a file manager to install and then run it. Not sure what version ROM you are on, but this might work.
Newer phones don't have too much support yet, so maybe the root hasn't been exploited yet.

anybody? trying to root this device.
I just bought the tab 2 7.0. It's pretty nice. I requested that we get a section for it here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617079
Does anyone know which Mod I can contact about this?
+1 for new forum... so Far loving this thing
Just got mine today, wouldn't you know it, first thing I do is look here for root even though it was just released two days ago.
Please add my vote for a new section.
I am in line too
I am in the same boat. I have tried every root process out there available for dual core Samsung devices and came up with nothing. Two things I would love to have for this device 1. Root(so I can restore my game data from my bigger tab) 2. A Bone stock ICS ROM.....I guess I should say a recovery as well so I can load a stock ICS ROM onto there.
Mine is on it's way from J&R and it's going to eventually be torn apart and put in my dash of my Nissan Altima to replace my headunit... but I def. want to root it before then, hope it can get it's own section and some dev's can root and ROM it!
i'm liking this tab, except of course lack of root yet (want to restore app data from TiBu!), but of course it's super early to expect it. i also don't like that tablet-mode statusbar/softkeys can't be hidden, so when I play fullscreen videos the buttons are always there. other than that, i am a happy camper.
agree, the notification bar always there takes some getting used to.
this needs root badly. apps2sd would be huge, among other things.
*sigh*
I am wondering how the root works an I am positive there are plenty of threads explaining this, my quesiotn is would the root be an exploit for ICS? or it is specific to Samsung?

It could go either way really. Some of the things in stock ICS are still there on Samsung's custom build of it. An exploit for either of the two is worth trying. The real problem is, how many Samsung ICS devices are there? Anyone look into trying whatever worked on the Galaxy Nexus for the Tab 2?

Sorry for the double post, but this is a method of root that could be an Android wide thing and not rely on a specific exploit. I know they use this for things like the Transformer Prime as well as the Acer A200, so I figured anyone with some development knowledge could take a look at it as I am clueless on that front.
Forgot to include the link, duh.

I tried a few things from the Acer side as well and came up with nothing. The only official ICS devices for Sammy are Galaxy nexus, and one of the galaxy S II variants. Most times they are rooted through Odin first. This device needs some pub so we can grab a dev or two's attention.

Yes, please do. If a developer needs anything from the Tablet, mine will be at my house tomorrow... I have access to and know how to use ADB, so I can contribute towards helping get us root!

I was thinking of using odin to flash the CWM for a plus 7.0. The possibility of bricking my device and not having backup to flash is holding me back though.
Once we have CWM rooting it should be as easy as flashing a zip file with SU included. Right? I'm in no way a dev, just a guy who thinks he knows what is going on.

There is a system dump of our device floating around here, but using odin is the way to go and using another devices odin method setup as a template is probably our best bet.
If we can install CWM, which would have to be built, then we could theoretically flash a superuser.zip, but I think the superuser.zip is a little more complicated than installing just the superuser.apk. I am pretty sure it also includes busy box and binaries, but I am also not a developer so I am just giving it my best educated guess.
I just got mine a few days ago and I will try to odin if you can find a compatible file. I will most certainly lie to microcenter about it being a brick to get a new one.....Just like I did with sprint. I told them it said something about an update and when I clicked it I lost power when I powered it back on it kept looping. So lets get craking on this
As you guy probably know though, you'll want to be very careful with odin. If something goes wrong or it is flashed the wrong way, you will totally screw your device up.
Hi guys,
I am trying to root my Sony Z1C (D5503) and I have read about the new towel root method. There is a topic on towel root and Xperia phones including Z1C (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900&page=7) but there is nothing about using this method with a Mac and I can't figure out how to do that.
There is a way to put the adb drivers on mac (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237 although I was not able to reset the path, not sure why) but that's as far as I went.
I cannot post on the development section for now but I thought that maybe some other users stumbled across a similar Mac/ Towel root issue as this new method works with a lot of phones.
Or to put it simply, if not with towel root is there a way to root relatively easily a Z1C on mac ?
Thanks
