Samsung 32GB Class 10 SDcard - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I just got my Samsung SDcard from newegg. I will admit the price was a little high ($70) but I didnt want to skimp on quality. I've read reviews on cheaper cards and they seemed to be slower than a class10 card.
Anyway formatted and installed its 29.7GB which is expected. I ran SD tools and am pretty happy with the results...

I have an Adata 32GB Class 4 and i get a 7.6/14.8. I also paid it 19$ after a 20$ rebate but i have to say, why pay 3 to 4 times the price to get a class 10? I personally only have my itunes library in my SD and the big transfer happens once...then i just let isyncr sync the 10 or so new song i put in weekly. So, is a class 10 to really worth it? Not for me, at that price, i'd put the 70$ more to get a 64gb SDXC

Here are my results of an Lexar class 10 card for 20$ @ best buy.

You have never noticed the system verifying the SD contents when you start up? It is alot faster with a class 10. Also if you play HD video or run games from the SD, you don't get the occasional lost frames and glitches like you do on Class 4. Sure you can live with it, but its not for me.

Exactly this. Reason being, you need faster write speeds to write more data, faster. (pretty obvious, lol) For typical uses like playing music or just looking through pictures, etc., a higher class card wouldn't entirely be necessary. Coming from DSLR's, I honestly refuse to have anything less than a class 10 for faster sequential shutter speeds and 1080p recording on it. Definitely always nice to have higher classes, especially since they're so CHEAP nowadays.

I bought a 32GB Samsung microSDHC card class 10 from eBay from a trusted top rated seller, for $53 free shipping.
Formatted and installed shows 29.27GB

nop...actually the initial media scanner takes maybe 2 minutes, which i dont really care about because it's not like i need to use my music at that time. Also i do have many HD video and never notices any frame lag. Again, i have a 16gb class 10, and the difference is NOT worth 50$

Play.com 16gb class 10 cards

Hi there guys,
For those that dont want to run the gauntlet of Ebay.
Here is a 16Gb class 10 PNY micr sd card for £18.
Not allowed to post links yet due to low post count but just search Micro sd on Play you will find it.
Enjoy
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...=0&searchstring=16gb+micro+sd&urlrefer=search
considering getting one of those myself, and retiring my class 6 8gb card. it's not big enough these days.
Sweet. Good find. Thank you!

got one myself, not really class 10, and nowhere near 15mb/s
check here for more feedback http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/pny...r-warranty-17-99-delivered-play/910954?page=1
Really class 10?

If you dont get class 10 speed results, then i suggest that you probally have a faulty card and send it back.

read the thread on that link, nobody is getting 10mb/s.
the card is unbranded, its labeled class 10, but test shows it is not.
I am getting 10mb/s write speeds and 23mb/s read speeds on that card.
Ill send anyone a pic of the speed test as i cant post it here as of yet.
Here is link to SDTools pic of speed test, SDTools used.

Not saying this is by all means perfect, and that it only just creaps in as a class 10, but lets face it £18 for a 16gb class 8 would still be a pretty damn good deal.

I've read the whole thread and basically you just have to be lucky with your card, it might not mess up in a few days/weeks/months time but theres a huge possibility it will, as some people reported it back in the hotukdeals thread
Got the same card. Mines branded pny even though it came in plain shrinkwrap.
Ran sdtools and get roughly 10mb write 18-20mb read. Not sure if I have a faulty one but its faster than my Samsung 8gb class 6.

After getting a replacement and it also being a unbranded one i returned it for a full refund, and bought a Joyflash one instead.
Currently testing this card out as seems to be giving me rather low performance too and also was unbranded.
Are those speeds above slow though? Seems OK to me
Your speeds seem fantastic in all honesty, just keep an eye on the card for peculiar behavior like dropping info and apps not working properly, if using APSD+.

300$ for a Xoom

if you've got $300 to risk? go for it... otherwise save for a bit longer & buy from a reputable place.
Craigslist is probably where you'll find a good deal.
Fishy fishy fishy.
There have been concerns about that name in the past.
Save up the extra hundred and fifty bucks and get one from a reputable dealer.
Will there be something better soon? Of course. But who cares. If you like the Xoom it wont matter.
Tablets are just like cell phones right now. Expect to have one for a year or two and then upgrade when you are happy.
Found a new one in box on Craigslist for $300 cash. Really tempting, even with the new ones coming out the specs look good on the Xoom and in 3-6 months I'm sure I could resell it easy for $350 to $275.
Sounds like a deal

64 GB works great in the MT4GS. In fact, if you're getting the SanDisk Mobile Ultra card (are there alternatives yet?), that's my microSD of choice. Not only do you get the space, but it is the most practically responsive of the several brand / class combinations I've tried (good sequental and random access speed, I believe).
The one bit of bad news is that you'll need to reformat the card to FAT32, so the filesystem will be less space-efficient for small files, but that is a pretty small complaint.

Hi guys! Saw this thread and made me consider buying this instead. And don't tell that it's not necessary for me since I already had 2 32gb microsd full for my phone
But my question is would this item work?

I know it's the same 64gb from sandisk but I am considering the 45mb and 30mb versions. I'm afraid the other one might not be compatible with our devices so I think it's best for me to try first before purchasing. To those who already had the 64gb sdxc which ones did you buy? the 30mb or the 45mb?
I also saw a 95mb version so tell me if anyone uses this also.

Not only will it work over the specified size, it will even work at speeds matching UHS specifications. An experiment was done in the HTC Vision forum, and found that a 64 GB UHS-I card worked at full capacity and full speed.

The size is enough for me I don't think I will be needing it's speed since mostly I just use it as storage. Not keen into HD video recording and stuff.
Let down for me is android being not capable of supporting exfat partition which limits me with a 4gb max file size.

Looks like Samsung heard our storage complaints

http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/16/samsung-gs4-storage-complaints-response/
Not sure how much they can purge without compromising their much marketed features. The real solution is for Samsung to work with their retail partners to be more assertive in offering larger storage models.
Still, maybe possibly potentially perhaps might be good news though for the current owners of 16gb models.
One of the best option for samsung is to bring back touchwiz's native App to SD function. That was extremely useful on my S2. Sad that it was axed in the S3 and S4.
The option went due to Google removing it as a framework resource feature.

or at least give us an option to install a third party app to do the same with out rooting.
Android team killed it for a few key reasons:
They hated it due to security and the fishbone effect it had to updating the framework.
Customer service cost from users not appreciating that swapped cards or using cheap ones were key reasons for their own app and OS issues.
Android team did not want it added to begin with, but fell to pressure due to low storage for earlier devices. Most of the install base for GB and earlier OS versions averaged a few GB at best. This was due to Apple securing most of the flash memory capacity for their iPhones a few years ago.
The problem now is the carriers not offering more models with more storage.
Selling just the 16gb model for the same price the 32gb model would have looks VERY good to the carrier.
I think it should be by law. If they say there is 16 gb storage. Then there are 16 gb and not 9 gb. Its fake advertisement
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I think if it's not enough storage, wait for the bigger storage devices to come out or buy a different phone. No one made it law to get an s4. I have all the apps I need and still plenty of room left. My pictures and music will go on external sd. A choice that I am happy samsung still give us.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I think it is false advertisement if Samsung advertised it as 16GB user space/available storage. And the 16GB S4 is really 16GB as it has 16GB flash storage onboard. I don't know any Android phone that advertises the storage capacity as available capacity. Some % of the storage is always used by the OS and other stuff.
The problem with the S4 is only 16GB is available almost everywhere. And as I've read this is because Samsung want carriers/retailers to commit/order a minimum X number of phones before they accept an order. This is no problem for the 16GB as people will most likely buy the most affordable S4 available, and retailers would not risk to much by holding so many stocks for 32GB/64GB, if their 16GB is still seller very well. :|
People just have to be find excuses to talk about. My point being why didn't they talk about it when S3 and Note 2 launched. Both had similar issues.

It's just a few GB less than other phones.
Difference with Note 2, a mere 1 GB. Yet, I have never seen people whining about that in Note 2. It's pure media BS. They need something to talk about.
Have anyone complained about HDD storage capacity as advertised? or about the space consumed by Windows? Windows easily take few times more capacity.
Do people complain that vendors are cheating you in terms of 'GB' calculation since 1834??
Your 16GB phone is not 16GB even when it's completely empty. I can guarantee that you will find that it's about just 14.9GB. And your 32GB phone is actually less than 30GB.
It's because OS calculates GB as 1024^3 bytes, whereas vendors mention capacity as 1000^3 bytes. I see nobody complaining when your 1TB HDD is actually just about 931GB drive.
I keep most of my music, maps, images and video's on SC Card an still have > 7.4 GB (80%) left on internal SD.
Apps to SD is one solution, another would be and option to remove and re-install native Samsung Apps. I have disabled most and if I was rooted I might consider getting totally rid of a most.
Is people running out of space due to installed games or because they collect a huge amount of "nice to have - never used" apps?
Devs for the i9000 resized partitions all the time. It should be easy to reduce system and cache partition sizes a lot, specially if using CM or AOSP roms, and gain back at least some 3gb. I am sure we will see this here too. All it took to go back to stock was installing a new rom with Odin using PIT.

Memory issues

Has anyone experienced memory shortage issues on either the 16Gb model or the 32Gb model.
If so why ?
I really am interested in buying this device but I am a bit worried about not having the the slot for the external SD card.
I have only found one person that had memory shortage problems but it was only due to an enormous number (in Gbs) of songs.
I am a bit worried about the ever increasing number of Gbs that are used up by the OS, and how this will effect the available data memory over a long period of time.
Thanks for any info.

I have the 32GB one, and I still have 18.28GB free (I haven't transferred my nandroid backups yet ~5.5GB). I have all the apps I need, and no music or movies. (Spotify, and Amazon for those needs).
The weight of pure Kit-Kat is quite small, so a lot of the space is available to use versus the S4.
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. My worries stem also from the recent S5 which sport a whooping 8Gb of OS !!! So a 16Gb device would not be worth buying without a slot. The OS footprint in the Nexus is in fact small by comparison.
Thanks again.

I have the 16 GB version. I have to transfer my nandroid backups off immediately and only keep 1 titanium backup history. I have to put my bigger games on USB stick.
I have no locally stored music or video although my streaming apps do cache
Edit. I do try to keep 3-4 GB free though.... to ensure I have enough space to download files and take backups should I need.

That is understandable, I was just reading an article about the S5 also. It's crazy that they don't move 80% of those apps to the Play Store and shrink the ROM by 3+ GB... Anyways, you're welcome! Glad I could help
O the beauty of samsung's "touchwiz" ;|
Thanks !
So substantially you're not particularly worried about having memory shortage issue ?
In hindsight would you have bought the 32Gb version?

Totally depends on the user's needs I must say. If you use your phone for entertainment purposes and play a lot of games, then the 32 GB will be your best bet.
I like keeping family, friends pics on my phone (However, I do keep a backup on my laptop), so the 16gb isn't sufficient for me. Besides that, the difference in price between the 16 and 32 gig models isn't that much.

Has anyone experienced memory shortage issues on either the 16Gb model or the 32Gb model.
If so why ?...

I bought the 16GB version but also bought a Meenova OTG micoSDcard reader. It's so compact that I easily carry 32GB of extra storage around with me available for my Nexus 5 at a moments notice. Assuming you own a micoSDcard the Meenova reader only cost around $13 with shipping varying per country. I'm in Canada so the whole expenditure was $17. The Meenova can handle up to a 64GB card.

That looks toooo goood!!!
Thanks. This helps a great deal. I agree with the difference not being much, so it would make more sense to get the 32Gb version.
It' s pretty cool that there doesn't seem to much of an issue with not having an extra memory slot.

Thanks.
I've heard about the Meenova and it seems to be quite the "problem" (I beginning to think there isn't one) solver. Thanks for sharing. I think I'll be getting one once I order the Nexus.

I'm thinking of buying it as it will be really helpful to load stuff when we are on the go...

Of course with App data If you like games, you're going to need root to move that data to external storage
It really does look good !

OTG storage can be a hit to the battery as well. If you have the option, get the 32Gb version. $50 for fast Nand built in is worth it.

Thanks for the advice ! The 32Gb really does make sense.
