Play Station Gaming Wipes - Epic 4G Accessories

I know this isnt a "accessory", But it's still something to buy for your phone. A Co-worker brought a thing of these in and was bragging how well they cleaned everything.
I must say, after wiping down the keyboard, screen, case inside and out, and just the phone in general, I was surprised how clean it came. It brought the original texture/feel back to my seidio phone case.

About to take the plunge...

Well, my T-Mobile contract is almost up, and I've decided to switch to O2 and get the xda orbit 2. Are there any other networks offering the touch cruise? Any way of getting the HTC home application on the O2 version? Thanks.
I don't know about other networks offering the Touch Cruise (but I highly doubt any other network is offering it), but I do know you can get the HTC Home application working on the XDA Orbit 2. No roms, no flashing, just a simple .cab file that you put on your PDA, run, let it install, soft reset and there it is.
I have it running on my XDA Orbit 2.
You can get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=47324&d=1187262723
Thats the one that I downloaded and installed on my XDA Orbit 2 with no problems.
Hope you make the right choice
Regards
Thanks! Went for it and now waiting for the phone to be delivered...
good choice switching to o2, much better coverage i have found.
i was going to get on contract and get a stellar, but decided to settle for a trion on payg
let us know what you think of the phone etc
My advice: stay away from HTC devices.
Since you already went for the device welcome to the frustration club .
(I'm the "proud" owner of a HTC Polaris very similar with your new toy)
Thanks for the advice, I'll return the phone as soon as I get it, or maybe not.
Well not the best start, called to check if it's been dispatched, CS said it's out of stock, but when they checked stock level it said several available. So they put the order through again and waiting to see wether actually in stock or not. There's no order tracking link in 'my o2' so guessing it's not gone through yet.

Your welcome! I am sure you willl enjoy using the device as I have. As standard XDA ORBIT 2's come unlocked (they came unlocked for me) so you do not just have to use it on O2.
When it arrives though, make sure the first thing you do (after checking all package contents are there as they should be) is to apply the screen protector- that way you keep your screen looking brand new just like day 1 if you ever need to remove the protector!

I've never understood this, whenever I get a new device I never bother with the screen protector. What's the point? What's the worst thats going to happen - the device is there to be used and enjoyed - not covered over with sticky tape!
It reminds me of when people go to gigs and spend the whole time watching the band through their camera phone, recording and taking pictures - whats the point of going if you're not going to enjoy the moment?!!!
Each to their own I guess.

How about permanently scratching the screen? Especially if you say "the device is there to be used and enjoyed", accidents can and WILL happen. Covered by "sticky tape"? Have you actually seen a screen protector lately?
I don't know...the putting on a screen protector does not mean you can't enjoy the device. As a matter of fact, you might enjoy it even more knowing that if you by some-odd chance you do scratch the screen then you can just remove the protector and get another one.
yeah seriously. device won't be nice to enjoy with a big fat scratch across the screen. the screen protector that came with the cruise is a pretty good one out of the box.
The screens are designed to be scratch resistant - which makes a lot of sense when you think about it!
If you are going to do something so harsh to your device that it scratches then it will likely scratch regardless of the screen protector - its only a thin layer of plastic.
I've had my orbit for 12 months, it's fallen down stairs, off my desk in the office, behind my car seat (constantly...don't ask!) and it's hit the pavement when I've been out on more than one occassion - it's always amongst keys and conins in one of my pockets or bags and I've never gone out of my way to take extra care of it. The screen is fine, as was the screen on my I-Mate JamIN a year before that.
Why would any manufacturer build a mobile device to a design that will cause it to scratch its screen easily? Seriously, sticking a layer of plastic over it is not going to make a huge difference! Before long, I'd imagine it would just get tatty and start to peel away anyway.
I can second the no screen protectors ideology. I do fine w/o one and have had scratch free screens on all my phones. I think screen protectors look tacky, they remind me of those people that keep plastic covers on their furniture to keep them clean. They also remind me of the people that drive their cars with leather car bras ALL the time. Seriously, for what? Just so that the next owner can enjoy the fruits of your labor?
Besides, the screens truly are scratch resistant. There's little need to fret about them.

I don't know who told you that but I know from experience that is not the case. A plastic screen (not glass like the iPhone) can be scratched quite easily. Even putting your device in a case or pouch that doesn't have a soft interior can cause scratching.

I think you are making an assumption of cheap screen protectors that you can buy in Staples or something. A Writeshield from PPCTechs for example can last for years and looks (and feels) exactly like the plastic screen on which it covers.

Hmmmm....then why does HTC INCLUDE a screen protector with the device? That's a first that I have experienced.

They do this solely to keep YOU happy!!!
If they didn’t, you would moan and whine and make a fuss and obviously “the customer is always right” – you would waste more time and expense than it’s actually worth when HTC can just package some sticky plastic in with the phone to keep you happy and stop you from blaming them when you screw up and brake it!
Some people spend far too much energy worrying and moaning about things rather than just enjoying them and getting on with it.
The Wii’s for example, people kicking up a fuss about the controllers slipping out of people’s hands – rather than take responsibility for not being competent enough to hold a controller, they hold Nintendo responsible. Then to shut everyone up because it’s the easiest option and they don’t want to get sued – we now all get free rubber covers with grips on for the Wii controllers! This is the kind of world we live in!
The other poster put it better than I did when using the car seat covers example – it’s just completely over the top.
Also all this quoting and taking my posts out of context is making me feel like I have to repeat myself! I was just stating my opinion; it’s not a personal attack or anything!
If it makes anyone feel safer to stick plastic over their phone then that’s their god given choice and I have no issues with them as a person, I was just making the point that I don’t understand why you would bother. My opinion hasn’t changed either!
Hey its fine by me if you don't want to use a screen protector. Just don't come crying here if you manage to scratch the screen on your over 700 buck device.
I don't cover my furniture with plastic. and it's not like they have plastic covers for a car. haha. but if i get a scratch on my ride, i do get pretty pissed. i somewhat agree with you to just enjoy the device, which is partly the reason why I don't use that pouch that came with it. but if i can avoid a scratch on the screen of an expensive phone why not. i highly doubt that the cruise screen doesn't scratch.
hey but you're right to each his own.
If put on correctly you cant even tell there is a protector on.

Cases and Protection

I am a week from having the cash to pick up an N1. I know there have been a lot of threads about cases, but I wanted to outline some of my thoughts and get opinions before I make my purchase. In addition, it is a little scary to hear reports of the phone getting broken easily: truth or not.
My problem is that I am a pocket phone holder. I do not wear belts often and when I do I am loaded with badges and other junk. Although I could hostler it, I already feel like batman without the fancy costume, and when I am not at work the hostler would not be an option.
So my plan is:
1. Get one of the plastic skins. My first choice is Clear Coat (new user so I cannot provide link). Most of these products appear to be the same, and although Clear Coat skins appear to have gaps and not fit as well as other brands, they have an installation guarantee. This is mainly to help the screen, but I will get full body to avoid scratches elsewhere.
2. Get a thin Silicon Gel Case. My theory is the gel will assist with gripping the device and absorb the shock from falls should they happen. This should also assist the clear coat skin against scratches to the body.
3. Get some sort of hard case to slip it into when I put it in my pocket. Since I normally carry my phone there, I am worried about the mysterious screen crackings which could be related to stress applied to the device when you sit and such. Hopefully a hard case will protect against this.
So, this is probably a little overkill, but am I completely insane?
My current phone is the T-mobile Shadow, which is a very cheap HTC phone with a plastic screen. I have had it for almost 2 years and have kept it in pretty good condition. I have 1 ding from accidentally placing it in the same pocket as my keys, and some major scratches when I had the genus idea of putting it in a ziplock bag when I went to Seaworld (well it did stay dry).
This is the most expensive phone I will have ever owned with only an very old world PDA being the most expensive mobile device. My wife is not exactly happy with me for spending this kind of money, and just seeing phones for calling people. As such, I am trying to make sure she cannot point a finger at a precaution I did not take: in addition to my own paranoia from reading the "I am having problems" forum on Google's site.
So, from the view point of people who have had other devices like this, am I being too worried or do these sound like reasonable precautions for this kind of device?
The information on these forums have been wonderful. Thanks for all the help!
I'm not sure what skin the last poster has used that yellowed, but I've used InvisibleSHIELD and Clear Protector, and they were still crystal clear after almost a year.

I have looked at these, but did not see this one. How stiff is the case? The leather looks pliable, and I want to prevent any bending of the phone.
I was looking at the flip open ones, but those seem too bulky. Also many of the pictures of these seem to have the phone photoshopped in, which makes me nervious. Hate the white thread too, but I could deal with that.
As for the invisible shield skins, did you have them actually tint the phone, or just - when applied - appear to be yellow? I have seen many reviews of these even over months of time and never heard this mentioned. Although I would be nervous about it permanently tinting the phone, if it just appears yellow when on then its worth a try since they can be removed. I know they are a pain to install, but I hate static protectors and really want something on the screen.
Thanks, fujitsupalm.
I saw your post in another thread. I think I might be leaning toward the flip on you posted pics of. How bulky is that? Does it interfer with the use of the screen?
I will probably get the flip or book version (wish it would let me post links), and get an invisible shield for the screen. It is humid here too, so I might have the same issue. However, if I can just remove it then its worth a shot.

Screen protectors and cases - really necessary?

Are these things really necessary? I guess the Body Glove gel case is OK, but I don't abuse my phone and think these things might be unnecessary.
Also do teh screen protectors make it obvious that they are on the phone?
i got both just in case since i cant get insurance on my phone because i used a cross upgrade on my account and ATT wont let me...but regardless i say do it.
I'm careful as well but I slipped my iPhone one time and it bit pavement... Good thing I had a hard case.
With THIS phone I'm considering going the Insurance route and just using a bodyguardz for scratches.
Edit- after thinking about it... Pay $5/mo with a $50 deductible or pay one-time $30 for a good case (when they come out)??? Makes no sense to buy insurance, for me anyway.
I usually have not carried a case but honestly I have dropped every single phone I have had since the first gen iPhone at least once. Sometimes I can't help it no matter how careful I am. A couple times it has been other people dropping my phone.
Less than 24 hours after getting the captivate I was getting out of my car at work and the phone is large enough that I guess when I sat down in my car it poked out of my pocket a little. When I got out of the car it fell out of my pocket and hit the ground. Luckily I had a case. Better paying 25 or whatever for the case than having that 1% chance of an accident ruin the phone.

Should protect your phone but look sexy too.protect your phone but look sexy too.If you are absolutely against a case then just get a carrying case that you take it in and out of.
Screen protector is a must with touch screen if you're a guy. Screen films are not noticible if you pick a good brand. Read through the captivate accessory sub forum for more info.

FYI: Extended battery cover....

I picked up the extended battery yesterday, which I am not too happy I had to do, but that is for another thread. I wanted to see it on the phone before I made a decision on purchasing it. The salesman had no problem with that and put it on the phone for me. I liked it. I bought it. I took it home and used the phone without worrying about the battery for the first time. Then I took a picture and it was horrible.
The new back has a protective piece of plastic on the inside over the flash.
The salesman did not remove this before putting the new back on.
FYI
Please delete, mis post, sorry.
When you tried it on, you haven't purchased yet so maybe he wanted to keep as much of the packaging intact.
I on the other hand left it on and only realized it when swapping batteries after depletion. Didn't try with camera.

This is why I only use Skinomi

I just wanted to share my experience, after just receiving a pleasant suprise email.
I have always used skinomi screen protectors, they work great, dont scratch easily, good instructions and when put on correctly, you cant even tell its there. Nor will it ever come off. Its almost on too well. Anyway, another reason is their lifetime warranty. Now, I learned that it really only covers a few scenarios, i had to get a replacement device due to the sdcard thing. So i went ahead and emailed skinomi to see if i had a chance. Boy did i get lucky. Now, i dunno if this is a once in while thing, or maybe the person on the other end just felt nice. But they went ahead and sent me a replacement. I HIGHLY recommend Skinomi products I can attest to their quality ever since my first android phone, The HTC Evo. I have nevet used anything ells, and I never will again
