[Q] Backup all data before ICS? - HTC Sensation

As u may know, or not - HTC is about release ICS soon (1 march 1st sensation with ICS). SO I was wondering... It's almost 100%, that we lost data after update, but how can we back up all? Or just sensitive data, for ex. photos, videos, contacts, and all other things that we can't download again after update. And maybe there is some program, that can collect all apps names, and after update download and install all automaticaly?

Is that 100% sure? I'm hoping in vain that it's just going to be similar to the updates I've received before, just that it's going to take longer
Anyway, I'm sure if a backup is needed, it is going to be instructed in details by HTC, since this is going to be a major update anyway

When I updated my nexus to ics nothing got I'm sure you won't lose anything

Yea, major update, not just a patch, or fix. This will change almost everything. And HTC will not inform how to backup. Information wil bee just like "you need backup your data".

HTC Sync, and Google automatically backs up your apps.

March 1st? Where did you read this?
Not worried about photos and videos because those are on the sd card. Google account takes care of my contacts. Titanium takes care of my apps and their data.
So I ask again because I'm curious. March 1st? Have a link I can read?

Guess it might take a little while longer than that. That phone ships with 2.3.

Hi there,
I think yes all your data will be erased, excluding SD of course
-for backups you can use Apps like mybackup or titanium backup
-i would also backup your SMS by SMS backup +
and sync with dropbox or google.

[Q] Non-root options for a thorough backup.

So I'm regretting not rooting my phone sooner. HTC Evo, about 5 weeks old.
When I got it it came w/ 2.2 and was in the period when there was no root for 2.2.
I played around and got dependent on my phone but now I see that without root I don't have any real reliable [thorough] backup of my phone.
Or do I?
What options are there that will backup AND restore most if not all of my data to my phone if/when the sh!t hits the fan (or I decide to root one of these days).
I'd like a 1 step type solution - for those of you familiar w/ the Palm think Resco Backup. Full backup (w/ incrementals!) to SD card based on my defined schedule. I'm shocked and amazed (not to mention disgusted) that this doesn't exist on Android. I've searched the market ad-naseum (and here and Google) so either I've overlooked it or it's absent. If you know the way please share the wealth.
If I have to piecemeal solutions together then these are my specific concerns:
Calendar and Contacts - I think I'm OK here - using HTC Sync to Outlook on desktop. I should be ok with that right? else, what do you suggest?
SMS - I REALLY have to be able to restore this. I'm using Handcent if that helps any (dont' think so but..). This is a must.
Call Logs - Like SMS, absolutely must be able to backup and restore this.
Pictures, etc. taken with the phone
K9 mail and setings - I'm using IMAP so the mail is safe but I'd rather not reconfig 7 email accounts again. Actually cant something backup the prefs/settings for all my apps at once?
Apps - when I put my gmail user into [e.g] a new phone, does it just go to the market and redownload whatever apps I had? Not sure how this works so maybe it's not necessary to backup my apps themselves.
Any other personal/important data I'm not thinking about?
In the end I'd really like an absolute restore function that gets me back to how I was the moment the backup was taken. If I can't have that, what the closest I can get?
Thanks much for reading and any input you have.
It's much appreciated.
J.

Please, any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks much all.
Mybackup pro on the market handles most of that without root. Sms, mms, bookmarks, system settings. After root it will back up apps and the market link too.

[Q] Backup Apps

I am new to android so please excuse me if this is common knowledge. I was wondering about backup apps. I heard about titanium and nandroid. I was wondering which one is the best or if there are any others out that might be worth a look. What does Google or Sense 2.0 automatically back up?
Thanks!

Nandroid typically backs up your entire system as it is. Meaning settings, apps, themes, kernel, etc... whereas Titanium Backup will backup data. It's always good to have a working nandroid backup, in case you find yourself flashing a bad rom/kernel or otherwise getting into a bad state, you can always roll back to your nandroid backup.
Titanium Backup is really handy for backing up your apps and their data (saved games, etc...). I've heard MyBackup is good too, but haven't tried it yet.
I'm not sure what all Google backs up, but from what I've seen (and this is just a quick 'off the top of my head' list) it has settings (wifi information, wallpaper, homescreen setup), contacts in your google account and apps from the marketplace. I'm sure it backs up more, that's just all I can think of at the moment.
As for Sense... I'm not sure. This is my first official Sense device, but I noticed some old SMS messages come up out of nowhere. I'm sure doing some googling will give you the info you want though.
Thanks man. Very helpful.

When my apps from my captivate magically appeared on my Inspire after signing in to google I was impressed, and quite glad I always turn on wifi when setting up a phone.
i've always preferred appmanager over titanium backup.
recently though, with an updated version of appinstaller (by gregory house), they implimented a backup option which i've stuck with. appinstaller is the most lightweight, reliable app installing/uninstalling/backup program i've come across.

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore Issue

(First off, this is my first post so my apologies if I've done anything improper here)
Ok, so there are a lot of posts about Titanium Backup restore issues but I haven't quite been able to fix my problem. I'm not trying batch restores or anything complicated like that, and the advice I've seen in the past and on the Titanium Backup FAQs doesn't work. Here's my problem:
Yesterday I backed up then uninstalled "Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0" but then realized that my phone (HTC Incredible) uses that to link my contacts with their Facebook profiles (for pictures, birthday notifications, etc.). So today I went to restore it and Titanium Backup just hangs (there is a spinning wheel on the left and it says "Restoring App: 'Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0'") It does this whether I try restoring just the app or app+data.
I have root and updated busybox from the "Problems" button in the app. Many people on here have said to go to "Troubleshooting settings" and change the "App processing mode" but when I go there that option is greyed out. I'm sure this would work (it has for others it seems), but I don;t know what to do since it is greyed out.
I thought about reinstalling Titanium Backup, but I don't want to lose my data to restore from. I don't know how that works.
Anyone know what to do?
UPDATE: Well I don't think reinstalling would help, since an update just came through the market. I figure an update would've fixed anything that a reinstall would have. Also, to add a little more information on the problem, I was able to restore "Adobe Reader 9.0.1" but not able to restore "Footprints 1.10" (another HTC built-in app)
I have the same problem on my HTC Desire.
After installing the latest CyanogenMod, I wanted to return a couple of the HTC-supplied apps. Titanium Backup gets superuser permissions and seems happy, but then freezes at 0% restore. The application processing option in preferences is always greyed out.
Hi guys, one thing that I learned while migrating to Cyanogenmod is that restoring HTC apps will really hurt stability and possibly lead to bootlooping, as there is no HTC sense framework for their apps to work correctly. AFAIK, there is no way around that. I learned the hard way that restoring all apps and data just will not work between AOSP roms and Sense roms. I'm sorry I can't offer more help on it, but you'll need to pick and choose your apps and data and make sure you don't bring Sense/HTC stuff into Cyanogenmod. I know, it's frustrating! Good luck guys!

We'll my problem is slightly different because I'm still using sense. I didn't load any new roms. I removed it and then tried to restore the next day without making any other changes. So why won't my apps restore?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
what did you remove? was it a system app or something you installed from the market? system apps, when "removed" even when backed up, don't reinstall from my experience. I never had any problem reinstalling any user apps that were properly backed up though.
I'm wondering if this is something to do with HTC's "S on" extra security.
Need to read up on this — anyone have a good resource about it? It seems a bit more obscure than just rooting, with some unreliable-looking websites about it. And I'm coming at this as a total n00b
But the system folder does indeed seem to have some kind of extra write-protection going on, even when accessing it as root.
I have a G2X and I have also learned the hard way that Titanium will not restore system apps. So the problem your having has nothing to do with Sence. If you search the for forums hard enough there is info on the topic

So... If I do a factory reset on my phone then, will all be fixed? Or does uninstalling it remove it from wherever the factory reset would pull from?
I'll probably need to root it again after, but I just want that "Facebook for HTC Sense" app back so my contacts link with their facebook profiles for continually updating phone numbers, profile pictures, etc.

Problem Solved
I flashed Liberation Enhanced v1.00 yesterday and everything is fixed. Liberation does all that I wanted to do in the first place: have Sense without the bloatware. It was my first time flashing a new ROM and I'm happy to say it went very well
(Now once I get enough posts in, I can add it to my signature like everyone on here seems to like to do)
guess you fixed the issue, but dealing with Titanium Backup, i sometimes have it hanging when i freeze/unfreeze or sometimes it hangs/freezes when backing up/restoring. in the settings there's like some different restoration methods it lets you choose (Direct, Indirect, and something else), but switching it to Indirect Method fixed the issue for me, so just incase someone else runs into a similar problem. im on a SGS4G.

I think what you're talking about may be part of the "App processing mode" option that I said was greyed out for some reason on my phone.

[Q] Tether-Only setup (see inside)

I'm a HUGE fan of MIUI.
No 4g. we all know that.
Miui.us is currently testing a build w/ wimax working and I'm sitting on my hands waiting for that..
In the meantime, I sometimes have a need to tether. SOMETIMES - i want to do it on 4g.
I want to have a backup nandroid of a CM mod to do this, as well as some other things (like *#*#gpsclrx#*#* which fixes all my gps problems in an instant).
Going w/ gummy as it comes w/ a file explorer and terminal emulator by default.
Heres my question: when I'm in this ROM I want NOTHING syncing.
Sure, google is easy - don't add the account.
However, I want to avoid say getting text messages while I'm tethering. It MIGHT be important enough that I DON"T want to lose it after going back to current ROM.
Is this possible? Can I still somehow get mobile 4g but not receive SMS? (I'm alright w/ calls not going through as well).
Of course, this all becomes mute when the wimax version is released or some amazingly awesome feature comes out on a regular AOSP or CM based ROM (or sense I guess but wtf runs sense on a nexus? lol)

use titanium to backup any sms that come in or use this app to back them up and restore once you go back: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en
My experience has been that SMS restore apps wipe the existing messages and sometimes restore in wrong order. Would render restoring the few texts more damaging than not.
Do you know is this does?
Also I've never used titanium for text.what do you backup? Messaging app data? Go SMS data?

SMS backup that I linked is awesome, it doesnt overwrite (ie: delete existing) and it detects dupes as well. the one caveat is that it does not restore MMS, but it does back them up, so at least they are in email.
you also want to check all the backup and restore settings before you do anything. one thing you can do is take a nandroid backup, backup via SMS backup, wipe data, and restore through SMS backup to see what you get. you can always restore your nandroid if it doesnt work.
in TB, yeah if you go to the backup tab/button, i think its listed as [SMS/MMS] prefs or something like that.

[Q] How to backup on Google and Samsung account?

Hey guys. I ve been using android since the dark ages of Donut and Gingerbread... But have never backed up so that I can restore from Google servers.
I ve been hearing stories about people getting all the apps back on the new phone, exactly like they were on the old one.
As I am changing phones a lot, especially S6, which I am.trying different colors of regular and edge, just wanted to ask how exactly do I do the backup and restore?
I mean, if I check Automatically backup to Google servers, How do I know when the backup is finished? How do I restore everything on the new phone? Will it backup my settings too? I dont need to backup pics or music, just the damned settings and app data, so that I dont have to setup manually each time.
You know what I mean, I am sure...
Thank you for the advice..
