Supercharged v4 has a mysterious flashing LED - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi. I'm posting this here because I figure the Supercharged thread in the dev area isn't a support thread. ;-)
So I flashed Supercharged v4 last week and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. However, I have noticed something that's not a problem, but it is a little distracting, and I hope one of you guys know what's going on...
Ever since flashing the rom, from time to time when my screen is off I'll see the LED flash at two second intervals until I turn the screen back on. But when I turn the screen on I don't see any notifications. Further, when I check each of my apps that have notifications, none of them are set to use the LED... and to top it all off I can't find any system settings that indicate the LED is being used in any way.
It's a mystery. It's not a showstopper but it's a little distracting because it keeps blinking at me and I can't figure out why. Do any of you know why?

Ya so mine does the same thing. Its the light flow app. Its done that before. "Flashing for nothing" I just restart the phone and it hasn't done it again.

Thank you!
I didn't even think to look at light flow. I don't use it... it's a relief to finally know what's going on.

Yeah the Light Flow app is what is doing it. Although I don't think mine has flashed for nothing. It has quite an extensive settings area so might want to edit it so it only goes on when you want it to. You can even change the color of the LED!!! heheeh

permanent notification light?

Is there a way to keep the notification light on the dpad (where the light goes around counterclockwise) on permanently without it only activating on things such as missed calls, new emails, etc.?

jw why would you want some thing like that? it will waste battery on a device that already has battery issues.
just trying to mess around with the settings and such. I don't really have many issues with the battery since I don't use it heavily. anyone know how?
The notification light has one purpose - to notify you that something happened ;-) Therefore I can't think of a reason why would one want it on permanently.
Anyway, I think this could be easily done by an experienced programmer (which unfortunately I am not). The question is if anyone would want to do it.
EDIT: My opinion is - don't touch anything that works well ;-) If you don't have battery issues you should be grateful. Let sleeping dogs lie ;-)
ahah yes i know. I'm just trying to see if theres like a setting in the reg or something where I can maybe change the way it blinks, when it blinks, duration (aside from the sounds/notifications tab), etc. Could also help if phone was in the dark, the LED lights would be useful..
anyone got some ideas?
any theories out theree? x_x
I'm interested to, because if we want to have a notification of operator signal, its a good idea.

<Request> SMS/MMS Alert indictor light

Just putting it out there for a dev to look into it. I am looking for something that would notify for messaging if you miss the initial alert. That is probably the one thing I really liked about the Atrix. Maybe have the bottom soft buttons illuminate and stay lit until its cleared. I know someone had it working on the Dell Streak, but I can't find anything on the market that works in that way.
it was in the works before. BLN but i dont think anybody has worked on it anymore since it wasnt working right.
I really hope someone picks it back up again, or someone can suggest something from the market.

BLN stands for ???
The lack of any form of notification lights on this phone is one of the few things I don't like about it. That said, I had the same limitation with xdandroid since it didn't support the Tilt2's LEDs for any purpose other than indicating sleep state so I'm kind of used to it.
BLN = backlight notification
It was/is a kernal feature to use 4 capacitive buttons as a notification light.
you can find it in an older Defuse kernal, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was removed due to random bugs.
Install GO SMS. It has an option for repeat alerts for messages. And its free.

led notification

im late returnig text sometimes because it only blinks three times per min. Anyway to make it blink longer?
Only way I know to do it is to use Handcent SMS. They're the only ones who seem to have figured out the Sidekick's LEDs.
I'm in the same boat. I know that Handcent can manipulate the LEDs, but damn, for some reason I love the look of the stock messaging app.
it would be nice to be able to chance the led colors and req of its blink. i miss it from the old ones, and cant stand the new ones led blink feq. argg. handcent though like he said.
Man, I use gosms pro. I hope they can maipulate leds also. I don't like using handcent.
Yea huh

I would like to have more specific control of the LEDs also. I use Gmail's app for all my email functions and ignore the built-in app. However it will not control the LED lights for incoming messages at all! Also I would love to see more frequent messages (or make it selectable).
So many things on the phone, including LEDs, are forced settings without much user control at all (unlike the Danger OS Sidekicks). I hope Rooting (which I hope to do in the next few weeks) will take care of some of these issues.
Things are being worked on, but the developer base is unfortunately small. We started out with the big issues, like the power menu and lockscreens, and are currently working on people's requests, an OC kernel and vibrate &silent in vol rocker. It's on the list of things to do, as it bothers most everyone, just isn't as big an issue, so it's slightly lower on the list.

If nothing else, it's on my list.

Good to see more people trying to jump in! That's the best way to do it, that's how I did it, just poke around at things, you can always just odin back to stock.
If you have any questions, I'll do my best to help, I should be around, PM me if you need anything.

do you know what permissions or something that controls the LED'S becaude obviously they have the power to flash more than 3 times! samsung has just decided to screw with us. in other words what does cyangoen mod and handcent change that allows the LED to blink more
basically what you need to do is edit the settings to have a menu that allows for different timing for the LED's, and then point the LEDs to that menu when they want to flash.

alright thanks ill try a few more things!
I hear handcent got the leds working for our sidekicks. Maybe there's a way to look into that for some code or something.
The problem isn't getting it working, it's getting the notification to send the correct setting. the LEDs already work just fine.
I suppose that you could edit mms.apk instead of settings, and you could add the setting in there.
thanks for the lead ill check that out now and i already looked in handcent im still looking!
I'll try decompiling the mms.apk and see if maybe I can find it easily.

[Q] Wonky Brightness - Help?

Sorry the title couldn't describe much, but this situation with my VZWGS3 is a special one. I have not been able to find a situation similar to mine by searching this forum or the internet.
My problem, is that when i wake my device with the power button, it automatically ducks my brightness down to minimum. In my brightness settings, I disabled auto brightness and I have the slider at 100%. I have to tickle the brightness slider to get it to come back up to 100% brightness. My first thought is that the lock screen is forcing the screen to dim. It isn't even a smooth transition. When I do enable auto brightness, it still dims the screen on wake, but it only changes when the ambient lighting changes (thus causing auto brightness to kick in) and then it looks normal. The result of this problem is that I cant see my screen when i turn it on outside or in bright rooms. This does not have anything to do with battery, because this happens even when it is plugged in and at 100%
I'm on a deodexed stock pre-rooted touchwiz rom. Baseband version: I535VRBMF1. Android Version: 4.1.2. Kernel: 3.0.31-1152558 [email protected] #1
Android build number: JZO54K.I535VRBMF1
Later on today, I can make a video of this happening to better describe the issue. For now, just let this ponder in your heads.
Also, is it possible to debug which apps cause something to happen to the system? For instance, scan to see which apps & processes are controlling brightness.

Oops accidentally thanked you haha. But back on topic, I dont know of a way to debug that type of problem. what i would suggest since you're rooted is to make a backup in Titanium and a Nandroid. Then try doing a factory reset. That is a very strange problem indeed..

Thanks for your reply. I'll probably try a factory reset. Can't hurt. There's a question I have about TiBu when it restores apps, so i'll ask that in another forum before I begin the process. In the meantime, this thread is still open to ideas.
Ok. This is a bit of a *facepalm* moment. Let it be noted that the main reason my GS3 was having this problem was the app called "Light Flow". I came upon this conclusion by giving the safemode of android a try. The problem immediately disappeared, so I realized it was an app. I thought a bit about what app could be controlling the lights of the phone, and the lightbulb went off. Uninstalled Light Flow and the problem stopped. I guess I kinda miss the custom notification light, which is why I downloaded Light Flow in the first place because I miss some of the notification light customization features on other Cyanogen based roms. Later on I heard from a buddy that Light Flow really screws up some things on the GS3.

[Q] Light Flow/notification LED issue - keeps flashing

Hello everyone!
I recently replaced my 3 year old Nexus S with a Nexus 5. It's my second smartphone and I love it. Naturally, I rooted it and everything.
One of the apps that peeked my interest was Light Flow. It's a bit mind-boggling what you can do with it, but I'll figure it all out. However, I noticed one issue straight away...
Notifications in different colours seem to work. I did a test with whatsapp and it blinks green: perfect. However, after a couple of "blinks" a white light flashes "through" it if that makes sense. It doesn't alternate between green and white, no, they just flash through each other, the white light slightly before the green light.
I don't know what is causing this white light to flash, but after I turn off Light Flow and close the app entirely, it keeps flashing. I have to restart my phone to make it stop (or disable notification LED in the Android settings menu).
Does anyone have a similar issue? Or can someone maybe tell me what boxes I have to tick in the Light Flow settings? It could very well be one of the settings is causing this issue. If someone has a certain set-up and it works fine, I'd love to try it and see if it fixes my issue.
Thanks in advance!

I installed LightFlow yesterday for the first time.Worked well, but after receiving a notifcation for Whatsapp and Gmail (and opening up the respective apps, the notification carries on until I reboot.I dont know if there is a setting somewhere (doesnt seem likely?) or if it is a problem with kitkat, uninstalled for now

Do your notifications work by default? Like, your stock notifications? Mine didn't, but do with light flow. Weird, no?

I tried another app (Light Manager), and I had the exact same problem. Don't get me wrong, the app is working fine, but once I set everything up and I do a test notification, a white notification keeps flashing even after I turn Light Manager off. The only thing that helps is to disable LED notifications in the Android settings, or to reboot the device.
Something is telling my device that there's a notification, but I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks for the personal reply, andrew! I really appreciate that
However, for some reason my phone keeps flashing this white light, even after I turn off Light Flow. I have to turn off the notification LED in general or reboot my phone for it to stop. The white light notification starts after I do a "missed call test" like described in that link (that works perfectly fine by the way), or after any test I do with Light Flow for that matter. And it doesn't stop no matter how often I clear my notifications.
EDIT: NEVERMIND. Totally forgot that I don't have a sim card yet. That's what was setting off my notifications. Weird though that even after disabling Light Flow it keeps flashing, and weird that it was white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.

Sorry for wasting your time. I totally forgot I didn't have a sim card so Light Flow was making the LED flash because it thought I had no signal.
Still weird that it keeps flashing even after I disable Light Flow, and that it's white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help! It works fine right now. I'm not too sure how the cycle thing works yet. I've tried it with a red slow flash for low battery and a green fast flash for whatsapp but the result is the LEDs flashing kinda "through" each other. Naturally, with different flash rates, I guess.
Quick question for people. For the last couple of updates I've been getting quite a lot of reports of certain notification types not working. Hangouts, emails (not gmail), whatsapp etc
I know that all the types that people are having issues with have been using the notification listener (quite a few stock apps don't use it), has anyone else been seeing this. I'm trying to track it down, but I can't recreate it and the beta testers haven't been able to either. Just interested to work out how much of an issue it is as I've never had reports of this before.
Hey Andrew,
I tested the color cycle for textra app, and google voice. I purposely got both notifications with the screen off and waited for the colors to cycle. It started off cycling both colors, but the cycle was not consistent. For example, the colors were red and blue. It would show like this- blue....red....blue..red..blue..red....red....red....red....red
The time between colors was not consistent, then eventually one color took over. I have the setting to 'cycle all - medium' under battery settings. Have not tested under charge settings yet. I am not using the 'highest priority' or 'show latest' options.
This isn't a deal breaker, but would like to bring to your attention.
Thanks!

I use it for WhatsApp, BBM, Hangouts all w/o issue on my stock N5. My only complaint is the perma-notification in the notification tray. Can't seem to get rid of it with any of the options in settings. Wasn't an issue with older versions (I'm using the latest)
Ive been using lightflow on my N5 and it's working well
I have multiple notifications set up - all set for 'permanent' rather than flashing. I have turned EMAIL notifications OFF
however - sometimes, I am not entirely sure when, I notice a white (slightly bluish?) blinking LED. I can't figure out what causes this. I suspect it MAY be email (exchange email, not gmail) - but I am not sure - I can't reproduce consistently.
Also, sometimes when I do a 'test model' on SMS apps, no LED lights up. I've stopped using "SMS Apps" and now am using "Hangouts" as a notification instead and that seems to work
Had 2 hours full wakelock on lightflow this morning -from the minute I unplugged from charge
very strange
Isn't the white light you're seeing the default LED color? Whenever I get a Gmail or Exchange mail it blinks white. I don't have Light Flow installed.
Yes I think it is the standard light. however with lightflow that's not meant to occur.
either way it appears to have stopped now.. not sure how/why!
Try turning off your LED notifications in each program and just have Light Flow control them. That should stop the default white light from showing.

Hey Andrew, Great work on this app. It is fantastic and I was happy to upgrade to the full version.
Just wanted to share that I have the lingering notification scenario also. essentially I get a few notifications and once I clear them out and the screen turns off, the light continues to blink. It is usually the last notification that came in (I have different colours set and I can tell that what sticks is what came in last).
To be honest, I wonder if it is Kit Kat not clearing out the notification and the issue has nothing to do with LF. Interestingly another way to clear the issue is to bump the notification with another real one, and then accept that notification (i.e. light still blinks without any active notification, I call the phone and miss the call, it blinks for the missed call, I clear that, and we are back to normal)
Hope this might have helped.
Anyone able to get the Camera Light LED/flash to work? The one on the back.
I enabled it in setting and I've tried all the other ones not officially supported too with no success.
Also had the notification light not dismissing problems too. But I'm thinking I got it figured out now. Hasn't happened since.
