<Request> SMS/MMS Alert indictor light - Samsung Infuse 4G

Just putting it out there for a dev to look into it. I am looking for something that would notify for messaging if you miss the initial alert. That is probably the one thing I really liked about the Atrix. Maybe have the bottom soft buttons illuminate and stay lit until its cleared. I know someone had it working on the Dell Streak, but I can't find anything on the market that works in that way.

it was in the works before. BLN but i dont think anybody has worked on it anymore since it wasnt working right.

I really hope someone picks it back up again, or someone can suggest something from the market.

BLN stands for ???
The lack of any form of notification lights on this phone is one of the few things I don't like about it. That said, I had the same limitation with xdandroid since it didn't support the Tilt2's LEDs for any purpose other than indicating sleep state so I'm kind of used to it.

BLN = backlight notification
It was/is a kernal feature to use 4 capacitive buttons as a notification light.
you can find it in an older Defuse kernal, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was removed due to random bugs.

Install GO SMS. It has an option for repeat alerts for messages. And its free.

permanent notification light?

Is there a way to keep the notification light on the dpad (where the light goes around counterclockwise) on permanently without it only activating on things such as missed calls, new emails, etc.?

jw why would you want some thing like that? it will waste battery on a device that already has battery issues.
just trying to mess around with the settings and such. I don't really have many issues with the battery since I don't use it heavily. anyone know how?
The notification light has one purpose - to notify you that something happened ;-) Therefore I can't think of a reason why would one want it on permanently.
Anyway, I think this could be easily done by an experienced programmer (which unfortunately I am not). The question is if anyone would want to do it.
EDIT: My opinion is - don't touch anything that works well ;-) If you don't have battery issues you should be grateful. Let sleeping dogs lie ;-)
ahah yes i know. I'm just trying to see if theres like a setting in the reg or something where I can maybe change the way it blinks, when it blinks, duration (aside from the sounds/notifications tab), etc. Could also help if phone was in the dark, the LED lights would be useful..
anyone got some ideas?
any theories out theree? x_x
I'm interested to, because if we want to have a notification of operator signal, its a good idea.

LIGHTS - Trackball, bottom home keys, etc

Search "Covedesign Dev" in the market.
I know since 2.1 has been out, led lights on our phones have been a problem with most roms. Even with new roms, the lights work but they dont shut of during movies and so on. And if using a overclocked rom, you dont have trackball/home key lights at all.
Well I found a program on the Market that lets you disable them or turn them on. I tested them all and they actually work.
Im using Fresh toast v1.1 and I clicked the trackball check mark and the ball lite up.

I updated the post above.. Thats what i had typed there... It wasnt directed to the .27 kernel
Does work BUT obviously backlights and trackball will stay lit while screen is on but i guess they don't draw that much extra current. Just a drag to need a program running to have lights but hey it's all part of the fun of getting closer to a perfect cooked rom

It says will stay lit until you disable. But im sure someone could make a quick widget on the desktop that would disable/enable a certain light on the phone. So if you need it, it would just be a click away.
The main reason why i shared, because back when DC got the leak and the lights started working. There was no way to disable the lights in the dark and during movies the ball would stay lit.
speaking of the trackball, ive been looking for a program that will make my trackball flash when i have a new sms/mms.
any help?

The dev of the app has is source code for everyone to get.
Im sure someone could create the app that simply says
if messages received
then flash the ball till button pressed or certain amount of time.
by using the same thing this app does to turn it on
Ask one of the higher devs here.. Flipz, toast, damage, darch, treve, maybe avalanche, regaw.. Im sure there is more
+1 for interest in trackball notifications.
Agreed would love to see flash lights for notification built in not 3rd party i am sure we could intergarte it

[Q] Newbie user: Little annoyances. Help :D

Hi and Thanks for coming to check out this thread. Got my Nexus S yesterday and there are a few niggling annoying things that perhaps just might be a setting somewhere I have missed and you might be able to help me
1. Message Light - On my BB when I had a missed call, sms message etc. A flashing light kept going. Is there any way to get this going?
2. Facebook/Twitter notifier - My old phone would notify me (just like an sms message) when a facebook or twitter notification came up. Now on my Nexus, I have to physically go into Facebook/Twitter to check.
Thats pretty much it for now. If I can think of anything I will edit. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.
If rooted there is bln along with kernel that supports it.
I added cell number in the Twitter itself so I get text from then when I get direct message

I think this belongs in Q&A but here goes
1) If you are rooted, flash any rom you want (or stay stock rom) and then flash a custom kernel with Backlight notification (BLN) support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949292
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973125
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936219
for example. Then install BLN from market. There's the PRO version which offers more functionality but requires a token donation to the developer.
If you do not like BLN or not rooted (i think noLED doesn't require rooting, my memory might be wrong), you may download noLED from the market. I personally preferred this as i'm using a super amoLed and it doesn't eat that much batt and the notification is more visible and also i'll be able to know what exactly is the notification (like if it's gmail, email, miss call, whatsapp etc)
For now, to me at least, either apps may (i said may as i'm not sure if it's just my phone or in general) cause the phone to freeze occasionally and you'll have to do a batt pull.
2) It's under your settings in facebook and twitter app. Go to menu button (2nd from left) when you are at the fb and twitter app and choose the frequency of notification and the sound/vibration means etc. Personally, i wouldn't advise having the two applications update as frequently as you would on a BB especially if you're a heavy user on the games/browsing etc. I set mine to update every 3-4 hours with no notifications except for personal messages. Any other times i need n update, i'll do so manually. BB batt life is way better than an android phone but in terms of functionality and customisation, nothing beats the NS.
And if you have not rooted, please do so and read up in the forums on the wonders of an unlocked bootloader and having root.
A little too scared to root my phone at this point. I have about 5 hours experience with an android phone so bricking would break my heart
Looking at this guide atm though

I think there is some confusion here...
There are no flashing lights on the Nexus S.
Simply because that blinking LED light (or whatever it is) is not in the hardware, so there is no "fix" for it.
However it is possible to have the whole screen flash with some modifications/roms etc but I don't think this is what you meant...

There is technically a "fix/workaround" with BLN. It basically is the same as the blinking led lights, video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAqqr2s_4Ks

led notification

im late returnig text sometimes because it only blinks three times per min. Anyway to make it blink longer?
Only way I know to do it is to use Handcent SMS. They're the only ones who seem to have figured out the Sidekick's LEDs.
I'm in the same boat. I know that Handcent can manipulate the LEDs, but damn, for some reason I love the look of the stock messaging app.
it would be nice to be able to chance the led colors and req of its blink. i miss it from the old ones, and cant stand the new ones led blink feq. argg. handcent though like he said.
Man, I use gosms pro. I hope they can maipulate leds also. I don't like using handcent.
Yea huh

I would like to have more specific control of the LEDs also. I use Gmail's app for all my email functions and ignore the built-in app. However it will not control the LED lights for incoming messages at all! Also I would love to see more frequent messages (or make it selectable).
So many things on the phone, including LEDs, are forced settings without much user control at all (unlike the Danger OS Sidekicks). I hope Rooting (which I hope to do in the next few weeks) will take care of some of these issues.
Things are being worked on, but the developer base is unfortunately small. We started out with the big issues, like the power menu and lockscreens, and are currently working on people's requests, an OC kernel and vibrate &silent in vol rocker. It's on the list of things to do, as it bothers most everyone, just isn't as big an issue, so it's slightly lower on the list.

If nothing else, it's on my list.

i have time tonight, so im going to try to see what i can do about it as well, we're both new to it but if i find anything i think is important ill pm you so we can do this quickly.
Good to see more people trying to jump in! That's the best way to do it, that's how I did it, just poke around at things, you can always just odin back to stock.
If you have any questions, I'll do my best to help, I should be around, PM me if you need anything.

do you know what permissions or something that controls the LED'S becaude obviously they have the power to flash more than 3 times! samsung has just decided to screw with us. in other words what does cyangoen mod and handcent change that allows the LED to blink more
basically what you need to do is edit the settings to have a menu that allows for different timing for the LED's, and then point the LEDs to that menu when they want to flash.

alright thanks ill try a few more things!
I hear handcent got the leds working for our sidekicks. Maybe there's a way to look into that for some code or something.
The problem isn't getting it working, it's getting the notification to send the correct setting. the LEDs already work just fine.
I suppose that you could edit mms.apk instead of settings, and you could add the setting in there.
thanks for the lead ill check that out now and i already looked in handcent im still looking!
I'll try decompiling the mms.apk and see if maybe I can find it easily.

Notification LED...

First, I know there is NO notification LED on the Charge. I'm sure some of you are tired of requests and want to yell at me, and others want to say I told you so, there is a notification LED.
I want t see if there is an app that would allow the bottom hardware buttons to function as the notification LED. Similar to how the HTC Touch Pro 1 notifications worked (pulsing for e-mail, fade in/out for sms, etc...).
Any ideas?

NoLED. There's a workaround to get only the backlit keys working.

there is a way to enable BLN (backlight notifications) but it must be done through some custom kernel work, which afaik right now is not possible since we don't have kernel source code to work with

Yea, I forgot to mention in my original post I've tried noLED. It worked fine except the whole power button thing was annoying. I had to turn the screen "on" with the home button (even though technically the screen is already on. The app said the power button feature is buggy). Again, this just goes to personal preference, and some people may not understand why I have trouble when it works for them, but I have my own preferences as that's just me. I don't like the screen bright at night, so I changed the icon colors, then I couldn't see the icons well during the day, so I had to change them back. I don't like that the icons flash around the screen (even though that's to get my attention - hence the whole purpose of the app), but it didn't completely suit my needs. It is a good app, and I'll continue to use it (I'll have to reinstall it), but my main problem is I couldn't configure it to show Google Voice notifications. I don't use sms, I only use Google Voice, and this didn't work as well. Same with the puzzle lockscreen; it doesn't show Google Voice notifications.
If you monitor google voice (in settings) it does show google voice notifications because I do it. The little google voice pops up.

Not completely true... We have the kernel source for Froyo. We (TeamGummyCharged) worked on BLN's for the charge but failed on first try.. The BLN also requires a binary for the lights one that is not compatible with the Charge.. Maybe after 2.0 is released and we have more time we will pick it up again by reaching out to the original dev for that project but at the moment it is shelved.

nice, good to know you guys can work on it... I personally don't see a use for it as the hardkey lights don't seem bright enough, though it'd be nice as an option (I'm coming from a Fascinate where they were bright and actually useful lol)
