Any guidelines to show how to install the rom?
Hello,
I have created a guide on how to flash ARHD's 6.2.x ROM.
I have also did a read up about LeeDroid SuperSensational and I found out that the flashing bits are similar to ARHD. So I would suggest you to visit my guide. (link in my signature).
All you have to do is to replace the the Superwipe with FULL WIPE to EXT4 patch, and the ROM to the Leedroid ROM.
Cheers!

Thanks for the guidelines. Really appreciate it if it comes handy. To tell the truth, I haven't do any S-off, clockworkmod or rooting on my phone yet. I'm still an amateur. Erm, to enter HBoot, I need to turn off my phone first and then press volume down and power button at the same time. But to achieve that do I need to S-off my device first?
it really is better to read a lot about S-OFF (it is stickied in the development threads) before trying anything. Since you say you are new to flashing, it is better to get acquainted first with the basics so in the long run you will not regret it.
the answer to your question, no, you don't need to S-OFF your device to go to HBoot menu but in order to flash any rom you need to S-OFF your device.
and you are correct in the procedure to go to HBoot.

Thank you. I'm using Sensation XE. Well, I want to enter HBoot menu by first turning off my phone and press volume down and power button at the same time but to no avail. It displayed htc words and after that back to my homescreen. I can't get into bootloader. So, I'm afraid I can't flash any rom.
i think you have fastboot on. try to go to settings and go to power and untick fastboot. if it is not on power settings just try to find it on the other settings, i can't remember where it is on GB rom.
then try again getting to HBOOT menu.

The ARHD 6.2.13 which is the latest version still having camera unable to focus and low photo quality issues? Why go for that rom?

READ, READ and READ with appropriate searches.
S-OFF is a must but can brick the phone, unlikely now
Radio changes can brick the phone, unlikely if you follow the guides.
ICS with the associated firmware can brick the phone, unlikely if you follow the guides.

No, you do not need S-off to reach Hboot state. To enter Hboot, your phone MUST boot from a cold boot. You can achieve this simply by pulling battery. Then press and hold power + vol down and you should be able to enter a white screen (HBOOT).
The reason why I choose ARHD 6.2.x is that it is by far still the smoothest Sense ICS ROM.

Look at the OP, He's not S-Off'd the phone. He needs to take it slowly. It's a great path but needs to be followed with knowledge.
Read and read the S-Off thread then read and read the firmware thread. It doesn't matter what ROM you throw at the phone, you need to understand Nandroid backups, ADB, Flashboot, Recovery.... in order to minimise the chances of failure. Pls Bear in mind ICS is based on "leaked" binaries.

Thank you again. Well, I have downloaded all the files and read through the guidelines and explored many roms such as InsertCoins, Virtous rom, LeeDroid, ARHD, Dark Forest, CyanogenMod and HyperSensational. So far, I think LeeDroid and ARHD caught my attention. I watched an video about the HTC Desire rooting. Based on the video (http://o-o.preferred.tm-jhb1.v22.ls...&ptk=DesireFanatics+user&ptchn=DesireFanatics) and the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300, I think I start to understand a bit.

Good luck.
revolutionary.io (and USB drivers) gets you the S-OFF. Revolutionary is the successor to AlphaRev/Unrevoked (from a joint effort).
You Should then also SuperCID while you're at it, you'll need ADB for that.
I'm on the 3.12 based Firmware so I can run an ICS ROM and switch back to CM7.
Get familiar with ClockworkMod (CWM) or the other recovery tool (not used it but folks seem to like it) so that Nandroid Backup and Restore is second nature.

Hi all,
I tried some searching, before I started this one. And I allready want to offer my apologizies if I overlooked something. There is so much info on these boards.
Anyway. I have a Sensation which I've S-off'ed with the Revolutionary tool. After that I changed CID and installed a stock HTC ROM (I came from Vodafone branded).
I've read trhough Mike's thread for ARHD and instructions on installing it, but it only mentions that I should flash it using the Recovery that's coming with the Revolutionary tool.
Should I run the Revolutionary tool again (I allready gained S-Off) and install the the recovery, or is it just possible to install the recovery alone? And if so, where can I find the version that comes with Revolutionary?
Thanks in advance.
Since you are S-Off just download the ARHD zip and place it on your SD card. Then open bootloader...etc and it will install

Hi,
Your best bet is to download 4EXT(check my sig),which is like a next generation recovery tool, and install it.
Place the new ROM on the root of your sd card, together with a super wipe zip.
Then ,from your homescreen you can open 4EXT ,go to recovery, install zip from your sd card.
Choose the super wipe zip, followed by the new ROM.
Hit proceed and wait.
Thanks man,
I'll have to read up a bit. I'm kinda new to all this. Since everyone was mentioning CWM I thought it was the only way to do it.
But if I'm not mistaken, I install EXT4 while running OS? And next time it boots, you have a different recovery. I'm used to only seeing HBOOT

Hi,
Go to settings >power, and make sure fast boot is UNCHECKED.
This will enable you to enter recovery.
Install EXT4 while running OS.
One of the best aspects of 4EXT ,is that you do almost everything from your home screen.
Wow, thanks for the information. I appreciate that.
Will go at work with it and get ARHD to run, instead of the stock one. The reactions on the releases at Mike's thread are all really good. And it's nice that is has stock look and Sense.
Only doubting on which one to install, the 3.x.x or the 4.x.x. I believe it has to do with Sensation vs. Sensation XE ROM, but if Beats Audio is the only difference (which I guess, is not ) than it shouldn't matter which one I take.
Any suggestions on it? I'm just an average user.

Hi,
I suggest you start with 3.6.5 ,which is a Sense 3.0 ROM ,and see how you get on.
4.1.6 is a Sense 3.5 ROM,but it is still a test ROM,and therefore not 100% functional.
I used HTC's official unlock and my phone is unlocked, but has S-On. Is there a benefit to S-Off now that mine is unlocked? What is the difference between how the unlocks are? Sorry if i'm not making much sense, I'm new to this place and Android in general... I just got my sensation last week.
Welcome to Sensation
Don't worry, everyone's a noob at some point, I'm pretty much still a noob myself but as far as I understand it:
To this point you have unlocked your bootloader which simply allows the phone to boot with third-party software installed. In your phone there is a form of security check and the level of security is determined by whether you are S-ON or S-OFF. It's a flag at the radio level of your phone that checks images before they are allowed to be written to the system memory. So when you gain S-OFF, you gain unrestricted access to the NAND flash memory on your device, also known as root. With S-ON you can get temporary root but it's not guaranteed, with S-OFF you can get permanent root no matter what you flash.
Essentially gaining S-OFF permits superuser access to the phone, giving you control over all aspects of software and hardware.
If you like your phone the way it comes to you, all filled up with bloatware and stuck using only the latest version of Android that your carrier releases OTA, with a boring/crappy splash screen and boot animation (and so on and so forth ) then you have no real reason to get S-OFF.
If however you have seen some of the shiny ROMs put together by the devs here at XDA, or have a sweet custom splash screen you'd love to see every time you boot up the phone, or just like the idea of having complete control over YOUR phone and flashing what-the-hell-ever ROM/firmware/radio/other stuff you damn well please, then you should definitely consider rooting.
The disclaimer to all this is that if you aren't careful and don't thoroughly research what you're doing BEFORE you do it, you could brick your phone and give yourself some serious grief. The fact you're even asking this now is a point in your favour, there are far too many 'help me' posts on here from people who did something without bothering to try and understand it first. Knowledge is power and there's buckets of knowledge on this forum and others.
I'd suggest reading here and here at the very least.
Hope that helps
s-off means you may do anything with your phone,
you will lose warrenty at s-off gain it at s-on
as the other guy said if u want a nice toutch to your rom s-off it and install, if u want it still legal dont
Thanks for the info. I've been considering using an ICS OTA file on my HTC Sensation 4G, but the guides i've seen only mention S-OFF and nothing about the unlocked S-ON. I just can't wait for the official release!
On the other hand though, I also want to remove bloatware from this phone and found a script for such... but i can't seem to get any temp root method working. I'm not ready to jump off the deep end yet, but i'm tired of the unnecessary stuff.
I also couldn't wait for the official ICS release so I s-off, rooted, super CID, and flashed an ICS firmware and went to android revolution. Honestly, it's one of the best decisions Ive ever made. If you think your stock phone is running good right now, you'll be amazed when you flash it, it will run absolutely faster I tell you.
Though there are alot of risks doing all of that, it might brick your phone completely. So be very careful, read and understand everything if you're going to do all of those stuff.

Hey Guys Noob here,
I need help big time. I gone and mess with something I shouldn't have. I'm a first time android/touch screen user so bear with me.
I was trying to S-off my phone (alrady rooted- after several tries) but I downloaded the juopunutbear zip file on my phone. I mistakenly loaded it via the CWM recovery and now the screen is stuck on that juopunutbear image.
I have tried to flash my rom because I thought it was just a boot loop, but nothing happened. I NEED some advice please don't tell me I bricked it. :crying:

secondly what do you mean by juopunutbear.zip and from where?
edit:you said that you are already rooted
which means that you have unlocked bootloader from htcdev site am i right?
Yes it was already unlock from HTC dev, but I was trying to get S- off using the wire trick method. In reading the Jounutbear guide thread it directed u to a link which has the zip file which I should have run on my pc but I had mistakenly installed it from my sd card and now it isn't going furthuer than that screen. I now can't using the Jbear exe bcuz it not recogining it.
I don't really want to keep adding my nonsense to the thread how can I PM someone for help.

that's weird
did you perform a full wipe(from recovery) before flashing the rom?
also as long as you are on S-ON use 4ext recovery to flash the rom
and before flashing the rom enable smartflash from 4ext
if you have done all the above then use a ruu.exe to return to stock condition

But I'll go and follow you guys instruction about enabling the 4ext smart flash from now on. What I want to know though is for some custom roms (eg cyanogenmod 10.1) do I needs to be S-off to install it?
If so I'm still gonna try and S-off this here thingy. Givethanks y'all

Hello to everyone specially to those who are very knowledgeable on hacking HTC Desire S.
I have manage to root my phone HTC desire s with an HBOOT version 2.00.002 the problem is it is not s-off. I want to make it S-off.
My currently installed rom is reaper v3.0.0 i want to change it to ice cream sandwich roms
My questions are.
Is it possible to go back to HTC Desire S original ROM i am from Philippines part of Asia
Why do i always stuck on HTC boot screen when I installed other ROM. I am really freaking out guys. I tried to install fallout v.3.0.0
Do I really need to be s-off to install other roms? I want to be s-off but i found some tutorials here that i really cant make to work. I am sure I followed the instructions carefully but it does not work for me.
Please help me guys I want to use my full potential of my phone. Thank you.
Google it, or search the forum for it:
"you have to flash boot.img through fastboot"
ANY guide for flashing ROMs will tell you that, if you unlocked with HTCDev tool. Quite hard to miss.
Based on what i read i think u will need to s-off to flash or even root.(maybe someone else can give u a better guide.)
It is best if you could mention which guide u used and then post what error u encountered at which point.
Judging by him able to root HBOOT 2.00 and running custom ROM, but using S-ON - the only option is that he unlocked by HTCDev. But of course, as it usually happens, he managed to skip reading important parts of the guide that mention what I wrote in the previous post.
this is what i did to my phone
This is what I did to my phone (exactly)
1. Unlock bootloader on HTCDEV.com
2. i dont know exactly if i installed hboot 2.00.002 but that's my version now
3. install a custom rom called reaper v3.0.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100 << i followed this tutorial guys.
now what exactly what i want to do is
1. go back to my old htc phone. I want my HTC Desire S OS back. the original one but it seems i cant because when i installed an HTC rom, (or whatever you call it) my phone hangs up on the bootscreen "htc" and i dont know why.
guys im starting to freak out i dont know if i really messed up with my phone
somebody help me please
Read Q&A section. At the top there are at least 2 threads that deal with returning to stock, and one is pointing towards the other.
Are you able to boot to your recovery?
If you did not untick "Fastboot" in settings. You will need to take off your battery for 5 seconds, then put it back and then, press your volume down button and your power button at the same time. Press for like 5 seconds and wait to boot into recovery mode.
Follow step number 5... try flashing the boot.img...
Hey everyone, made an account just for this question but it turns out I can't ask it in the appropriate forum thread because I'm a noob.
So here it goes: just rooted my phone for the first time and installed the Viper rom using Rom Manager, and it's stuck in the boot screen. Think it's been like this for 10 minutes now. Is this normal, or what should I do?

Thanks a bunch, Although I think I do have a serious problem, since the recovery image sends me back to the viper rom - the one which won't go past the boot screen.
I have my phone plugged into my computer but my computer won't recognize the phone (it's in bootload mode) "recovery" goes back to the viper rom, as well as the factory reset. (and I did back up my unrooted version but I think because I hit the backup thing in the viper installation it overwrote that)
So yeah. Did i just **** up my phone for good? =\

Hi,
Try following THIS GUIDE
Start again from scratch.Follow it to the letter.
Well, Reporting back here.
I first installed this ROM back http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529941 back onto my phone to get it functional again,
then I followed This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
followed up by doing everything here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
checked my phones versions : Android 4.0.3 , Sense 3.6 and software version 3.33.401.106
felt confident of trying the viper ROM again, but it's stuck on it's loading screen again. What do you guys advice? I think I'm going to try a different ROM just to see what happens.
Also wanted to thank both of you for trying to help, it's much appreciated.

then I followed This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
followed up by doing everything here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
checked my phones versions : Android 4.0.3 , Sense 3.6 and software version 3.33.401.106
felt confident of trying the viper ROM again, but it's stuck on it's loading screen again. What do you guys advice? I think I'm going to try a different ROM just to see what happens.
Also wanted to thank both of you for trying to help, it's much appreciated.

Hi,
When you are s-on,you have to use smartflash in 4EXT every time you install a ROM.
I think there is a way described in Asskicker's thread to enable it permanently.
Read through the thread.
Hi just thought I jump in on this thread as I also do not have permission to post directly in Rom thread...
Running latest version of Viper 1.3.5 and must say it's great...
When sound profile is on loud, and screen turns off there's a notification sound each time. Any way to switch this sound off? I've searched through tweaks and personalisation settings can't see anything.
Not a show stopper by any means just curious

Had the same problem. You need to smartflash to make it work. Easy. Simple. Done.
hi everyone
i havebeen struggling with this for 2 years now. i have HTC sensation with hboot 1.18.xxxx that i bought in 2011. after the first year i have been keen to move to a newer rom. i have tried to look up inf in xda and elsewhere and got no where with this.
i have been worried about bricking so much that i didnt try to many weird procedures. i had even tried to go through with the android revolution installation procedure but failed right on. because revolutionary does not with with my device even though thr hboot is supported.
i badly need to move to a newer jelly bean based rom or later else my device is like a stone-age crap. i sincerely request some straight forward process / guidance of getting through this without weird, wire trick etc.
i really want to keep this device instead of buying a new device for no reason. but i dont know how to start and how to end. kindly help me out.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".
You should at least do some own basic researches or leave your phone as it is,
especially when you're worried about bricking your device.
There are so many excellent descriptions here, that could guide you to flash a custom rom.

If you are on hboot 1.18 you don't need to do the wire trick for s-off, just have a look at this.
If you searched a little bit, you'd find out yourself.
But even the wire trick is nothing "bad", I did it on 6 devices till now.
I'd like to encourage you to simply read/search a little bit more here in the forums before coming back and asking for help.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751187 to gain S-OFF. Don't worry about the htcdev part.
I did it on a complete stock sensation xe with hboot 1.27 or 1.29 (can't remember exactly).
Just use the temp root and rumrunner.
For any information read the thread first, before asking.
Also this thread should be moved, because it doesn't belong into the development section.

i went through the thread again and again but still find it somewhat confusing. I cant seem to separate the temproot process start and end in there. can someone outline just the temproot procedure and the pre-requisite for it ?
Does temproot require controlbear files ? rumrunner site says it requires a htc dev unlocked device. is that a must ?

I'm not 100% sure about the exact steps anymore, but you don't need Controlbear, you just need the temp root.
When you have temp root, run rumrunner and follow the instructions.
I said read the thread, cause it might be possible that you get the message that it didn't work, while it actually did work.
You'll get everything needed in the thread. Otherwise just ask.

if revolutionary.io method doesn't work then try to update officially
see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425
then try with juopunutbear or rumrunner method again

One thing you could do is:
- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option
Now in recovery with updated firmware/hboot make a nandroid backup and flash almost every rom you like.
In first place I'd not flash a CM12 rom.

since you update to ics you will be able to flash every ics/jb/kk/lp custom rom you like
so should i go ahead with the official ics update?
It's up to you.
Might be you're just satisfied with your new ICS firmware.
If you want to go further, unlock and custom recovery is an quite easy step.
For custom rom s-off is not necessarily needed.

If you do the update, try again with rumrunner after it has finished.
Thanks. I updated to ICS and did a full factory reset. The device seems to be quiet smooth compared to GB though. The next update i do will be using what you suggested. Without SOFF flashing a custom rom.
When i get there i will message back on this thread. Going to test drive this ICS now for a while.time.
