Hello,
I have several computers connected to my router, all the computers have a name there.
Only my HTC Sensation is displayed as unknown, which is confusing.
Is there a way to change the WiFi Name of the HTC Sensation?
I hope you know what I mean.
Thanks!
(it's a Netgear WNR2000 Router and I can't change the name there)

It´s not quite clear what you want.
Do you want to establish a connection to the internet in general or do you have a connection and want to reach a specific computer via IP and port?
If you want to establish a general internet connection: what do you have at your disposal? Mobile connection (2G, 3G etc.) or WLAN?

Dear me i have WLAN but i want to know where can i enter ip and port in my cell phone ?
To get a connection to your WLAN you go to Settings - Wireless Controls - Wifi Settings - then press the menu button at your phone and choose "advanced". There you can choose a static IP. You have to press the menu button again and save it, when you have finished your configuration.
Hope that helps

you are right it is for entering ip but whwere can i enter port?
Have you tested it without specifying the port? Have you access to the router to change the settings? If not - have you spoken to the network admin?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Is there a way to change the name of my device? In my device list on my router it's listed as "Android_IMEI#" & I don't really like that. For WM you could change it to whatever you wanted.
bumpity bumperson
On my router, i can change it on the router setup page.
for bluetooth, you can change it from the bt settings page.
try wifi settings page maybe?
Check under Bluetooth settings and change device name
the bluetooth settings show it as HTC Sensation. can't find any options on the phone. I think it's a bit unsettling that any wifi network you connect to will have your device imei number
Here is the problem: i can connect my sensation to the wifi network and the system shows that the connection is successful. But i can't access to any internet services, such as web pages. One thing is for sure: the wife network is OK and i used to surf online with anther phone by the same wifi network. I would appreciate it if anyone respond to this thread.
this has just happened to me.

No,because the routers is beyond my control. I'm sure that wifi is ok and i can access the webpage by another device without doing anything. Certainly i need to input the password.
And thank you for your reply.

I'm amazed at your knowledge of wireless technologies but please explain me why is it a router issue if 2 of my laptops, 2 towers and 2 of my phones (along with multiple guests' phones) have no problem accessing content on my wireless network but my Sensation throws a fit every time it's I try to connect?
Thank you in advance.

well all the routers have config options..... they transmit wireless in a particular ip range depending upon the configuration... ur devices have enrolled themselves on all possible empty slots in ip range and sensation is not able to coz it must b out of the ip range now...possibly u must have used many wireless devices but even after u disable them the temp ip auto assigned stays... so except for new devices old ones will never have problem.... jst disable dhcp in config page of router and enable nat.....if it does nt work add me on gtalk [email protected] and i'll configure ur router via team viewer....
Hi at all guys! I have a question... i've tried to use the modified wpa_supplicant for Desire S (here in the development area)... adhoc networks and udp broadcasting works fine but the wifi doesn't search any network...
can anybody modify it for the community?
the original wpa_supplicant is here: http://db.tt/UremWjC
orymd.

Ok just so we are on the same page. You have installed a modified wpa_supplicant file onto the sensation right? And you say ad-hoc networks are working fine, but it doesn't search any networks...
For clarification, what are you trying to accomplish?
What do you mean by ad-hoc networks works fine?
Do the ad-hoc networks show up in the network list?
Off the top of my head I'd suggest looking at the permissions for the wpa_supplicant file you can use root explorer if you have it its really easy. All you do is first turn off wifi on the phone then navigate to system/bin and remount the folder as R/W then long hold on the wpa_supplicant file and choose permissions then check/tick all the boxes in the first two columns and the first 2 in the last column. Then all you have to do is restart wifi and it should have the correct permissions.
Thank you for your reply... i'm very happy
in my older Desire HD the wpa_supplicant edited for the Desire S worked very fine... about the permissions, i ever set the "original" permissions.... with my sensation and that wpa_supplicant i can see adhoc network and i can connect with it... if i use Samba app i can access to my memory not only by \\IP but with \\hostname (i need this feature)... The problem is: i turn on the wifi in my sensation when i'm at home, it searches the my home wifi network and try to connect... the connection is established... i go to work... my phone doesn't connect to my work wifi network... if i try to push "search" button it doesn't see the wifi network... i should turno off and on... "in a loop"... Do you understand this?

That is indeed odd.
Does it only happen at your work?
Have you checked the permissions?

Could you check advanced settings on WiFi and see if it says anything in IP Address box, also are you on stock ROM?
You could also log into the router and see if it displays the connection etc.
Is your mobile rooted?
And have you any MAC-Filters on your router where you have to add the MAC Address of the phone?

and on my router it shows that i am connected. i dont know if it matters but it says that i am connected in power saving mode while my laptop is connected with power saving off.
