So I just got the G2X today and have 2 questions I would like answered. I have the 2.3.3 firmware if that would help answer my questions.
1. I know everybody is talking about how crap the stock G2X Gingerbread camera app is but that itself isn't my problem. My problem is why is the viewfinder so dim(dark) The only way that I can get it to go brighter is messing with the exposure settings. Is this a bug or just part of how F***ed up this stock camera app is?
2. Whenever I turn the phone back on it will quickly go into my homescreen and then back into the lock screen? Normal? Or is this another bug that LG has messed up our firmware with? Thanks

Uhhh, not too sure about 1. I actually liked the camera, but I think the darkness is an issue all around with ROMs. I could be wrong though.
As for 2, well... I wouldn't say it's normal exactly, but... it's normal behavior for this phone. It's not like that on non-stock ROMs, however.
1. It might be normal or you might be be seeing the really dark screen and need to take off auto brightness.
2. Is normal on stock roms with stock LG framework in it. Early weapon and others have or had the issue.

I'd also check to make sure there isn't something on the camera window. Try flipping from the rear to the front camera to see if that changes the viewfinder brightness. Also remove the case back and clean both sides of the window and the lens itself. Because the entire back comes off, this lens tends to get dirty fast and some smudges can really limit the camera.
A tad off subject but when i ran the newest cm7 kang nightly (1/25/12) I had the same lockscreen issues.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I'm not too worried about the lockscreen issue....I guess that's normal but my main camera is still really dim. The front facing cam is fine though. The brightness is what it should be. Though when I turn on bright lights in my house the main camera seems to be fine. I have yet to take off the back cover and check it(my back cover is new though)I bought it off eBay cause the other one is scuffed up. I will report back later. Thanks to those that answered my questions.
Not only is my viewfinder dim....the pictures that come out of this camera are pretty dim as well...defective or not? This is a picture with my room light turned on:

I had that lock screen problem with stock. Doesn't happen on CM 7.2 for me.
Here's a picture I just took of my desk. Maybe a little dark but it's not that bad, flash off:

Try applying the Bravia Hack to what ever ROM you're running, it made photos noticeably brighter for me.

Hmmm, yours does seem quite a bite more bright then my photos...would that have anything to do with your ROM? Not sure if I want to flash my phone though...don't want to risk bricking it...lol
Ohh and btw...I've tried everything from turning off the auto brightness,cleaning the back cover lens, and hard resetting the phone...nothing seems to work....I guess this camera does really suck...
Came accross another problem. My phone doesn't seem to vibrate on incoming SMS but will on incoming calls...another bug or is there something I'm not looking at? I have the phone currently set to SILENT MODE and ALWAYS VIBRATE but nothing...
3 images at random of my desk.. 1st, All Auto, No Flash. Second, All Auto With Flash, 3rd, Set to Night, Exposure +1, No Flash
My only lighting is from my Monitor
This is the Camera App in Cyanogen. Its a camera on cell phone, not a big issue to me, but i find all the settings useful and meaningful and that they do make a diff in the outcome of your snapshot.
on a side note..kids need to clean their keyboard...ewww. im leaving the lights off

@jahyton - Yeah....the camera doesn't seem to deal with low light situations very well...at least not with the stock ROM and stock GB camera app.

This is the best and most efficient live wallpaper ever. It uses absolutely no additional battery over a standard wallpaper, WORKS ON ANY AND ALL VERSIONS OF ANDROID, ROOTED AND UNROOTED ALIKE, and has a cool animation to boot. Sheer Awesomeness.
Edit: Updated version to size properly by increasing size and adding small black bars at top and bottom!
6/10/2010: NOW FROYO COMPATIBLE!
Find it here.
UPDATE 4/28: Have compiled the Ultimat3LiveWallpaper into a Metamorph theme compatible with both free and pro versions. This will only work with Launcher2 , and not currently with HelixLauncher2. Due to the overwhelming amount of time and effort these themes take, I am unsure of an ETA for a HelixLauncher2 version. May wait until December of 2012, because if the world does in fact end before then, it would be a waste of said time and effort. Find it HERE!

Download the file to your computer where you can push it via adb.
Create a folder on your SD card directory named Wallpapers
Rename the file you downloaded to Ultimat3Wallpaper.jpeg
Then adb push Ultimat3Wallpaper.jpeg /sdcard/Wallpapers/Ultimat3Wallpaper.jpeg
Shut the phone all the way down, and wait for the charge light to turn green
Reboot into recovery
wipe your battery stats
reboot again
Goto menu, then Wallpaper
Select gallery
Select Wallpapers folder
select Ultimat3Wallpaper, and viola!

perhaps you are staring at it from the wrong angle? Looking dead on is optimal, and keep any very obfuscatory widgets off your screen. If you make those adjustments and still have issues, try wiping the rotate settings, probably an accelerometer issue.

Incorrect. The battery drain from the wallpaper is no less than from any other where 50% of the wallpaper surface is white. Perhaps you are used to running predominately dark wallpapers? Another possibility is the tendency to stumble and turn slightly when staring at it. If you are standing directly between two towers at the time, the strain of bouncing from one to the other while you wobble will take a definite toll. Also reference the accelerometer issue a few posts up. In the future do some research before you post a complaint, and include a log. Can't fix an issue without a log dammit.
Also, no further complaints will be considered, unless you also blame Cyanogen regardless of whether or not you run his Rom.

Hi,
Has anyone been using this app on the Nexus S?
I only came across it after I saw the multiple icons on the lockscreen on one of the advertised themes.
Reviews on other sites suggest that there is a lag issue and other errors...none of them seem to be on the Nexus S.
Comments please.....

You can add up to 10 shortcut keys on the unlock screen. So, top left corner is camera, top right camera is LED flashlight, left middle is notes, right middle is google voice, bottom left is unlock andd buttom right is to silence it.
Oh and you can add widgets on the screen so i added a calendar widget.
I love this app and its really worth the money, being able to access some of these apps right from the screen is real convinient, especially the camera and flash light.
The only issue i've run into is that if you turn it on and off real quick, it will show the stock slide to ulock screen, and sometimes it will go back to the original slide to unlock screen, at this point you would just click on widget locker again to start it up.
Overall great app!

Also, it is a known issue that this app will not work along side NoLed.

Also, if you notice in the vid, when I turn it on from sleep mode, it shows the stock slider, thats because turn it off and on within 3-5 seconds, it will show the stock slider.
Cheers for that i'm sold.
Just downloaded it.
Awesome!

Widgetlocker is like quickdesk not like extended controls. You can customize your lock screen with widgets, shortcuts, toggles, apps, weather, etc..etc..

Also I've been talking to the dev of NoLED trying to resolve the conflict between the two apps. Not solved yet though.

I had the issue when I was using CM7 nightly ROm with Netarchy 1.2.2 kernel. But I was also having other issues such as the lockscreen spontaneously coming on and off. The lockscreen on/off was happening even when i disabled widget locker . so I dont think it was the app.
Since I flashed another kernel, it seems to have resolved.
Hope that helps.
I dunno if this is pretty well-known or not, I do see a few threads in the Galaxy S II section, but I figured I'd let more people know since I just randomly found this on the market.

There's a bit of customization that can be done and so far everything's worked pretty well for me. You can change the font color, style, and size. There's the ability to have app shortcuts as well.
The free version does sport an ad at the top, but there is a paid version you can buy. I'll stick to the free version myself, just waiting until the quality is a little better, but who knows, I might just purchase it anyways. It's only a buck and some change.
I think it's a great compliment to any honeycomb theme out there.
P.S. Would this be better in Themes? I dunno.

Yeah I thought about that, I've been all over my phone messing with Go Launcher and stuff, so I can't give a good reading, but I'll probably charge to full later and I'll take a look.
If anybody else decides to try it out, let us know!
I ran it for a few hours then it became very unreliable.
Sent from my X10x using XDA Premium App
I had it for a week or so, and noticed it unreliable too (2.2.2)
Its pretty, and more convenient to "unlock" being able to drag the circle any-which-way you want... but meh.
Doing ok for me so far, but I'm hoping for updates to make it more reliable as well. I did read a few comments with some gripes, but I think it's got potential.
What ended up happening with it for you guys? Was it that 'double lock' thing?
The circle would get "stuck". Had to cycle the lockscreen (via power button) a few times to get it to reset and work. Also found it sluggish at times.
Overall, I thought it was good, if those problems were not there.. but at the end of the day, if its eating even a moment of extra battery, its simply not worth it for me.

it wasn't until I did that that it started working good. REAL good. now I can have my camera loaded up faster than my stock lockscreen would unlock on my DX2
much faster and more useful than stock 2.2 lockscreen.
the honeycomb lockscreen from lockbot is better...
Works well except for the power button not turning the phone back on. Have to push the volume buttons to get the phone turned on to unlock.

You can also use lockbot, I'm not trying to troll but I've used both lockscreen replacements and lockbot seems more like the original honeycomb lockscreen. There is a free and pro version.

EDIT: ok, so, using for a couple hours, i really hate the fact that the volume buttons will turn on the screen on. and, if i don't have it silenced, beep. Its really annoying, and i may end up just uninstalling it if it bugs me too much.
Free version is compatible with the Dell Streak, but paid version is not. I bought the paid version while using a captivate for a couple of days and when I went back to my Streak could not install the paid version. I ask the dev about it and sent information verifying my purchase and the response was that it is Google's fault. Won't fix the issue and won't refund.
Edit: I am on a stock ROM, so it's not because of some strange configuration.
I am making an open source nightmode app for some rooted Galaxy phones. It has a bunch of modes, such as red, green, sepia, invert, etc. Red mode is good for preserving dark adaptation for use at night (e.g., astronomy). I like to read books in green on black print. Etc. ChainFire3D does some of this, but the quality of the red and green modes in GalacticNight is better (ChainFire3D just drops the green and blue components for the red mode, while GalacticNight renders green and blue in shades of red, which makes things look better).
The challenge of this app is that it is pretty hardware- and OS-dependent, and all I have is an Epic 4G Touch with GB. But I spent a long time looking at the ICS kernel source code for Galaxy series phones (including the Note). I also looked at an unrooted Galaxy Note on Samsung's Remote Testing Lab to see that control files were where I thought they would be (they were). Helpful testers on other forums have helped me get it more or less working on the Galaxy S2 and S3 with ICS (there was a problem with restoring the coloration after pressing the power button off and on; I don't yet have a report on whether the latest version fixes this). Now I'd like to get it working on the Note.
If you'd like to help, you can get the latest test build from here.
This is definitely test software. I cannot guarantee it won't do something terrible and unrecoverable to your display. But while I have had one user with an S3 report a freeze with an earlier version (this issue is now fixed), that freeze was easily recovered from by holding the power button long enough to power off the device and then rebooting. I would hope that any issues on the Note can be fixed by a reboot. (Note: Potentially the GB version might be a touch more risky as it has to modify files in /system/etc. However, the GB version has been thoroughly tested on the S2 by me.)
If you have the guts and time and want to test it, you will have my gratitude.
Eventually, the app might be extended to do other things, like adjust screen tint or sharpness. These things are quite easy to do once we get this running.
I am attaching a photo of this app in action on my GB-based S2. I can't attach a screenshot because the color adjustments happen between the framebuffer and the screen, so that the screenshot would look like nothing was happening.

Bump.
Anybody try it yet on a Note? As of version 0.11 it was pretty stable on S2 GB, S2 ICS and S3 ICS, with one bug (the screen colors reverted if you turned off the screen in the GalacticNight app and turned it back on) that should be fixed in 0.12. The Note is a different phone, but I think its mdnie handling, at least under ICS, is very similar to the S2's, so there is a chance it'd work. Of course, at your own risk.
I just tried it on paranoid android 1.3 which is based on Cyanogenmod10 ie jelly bean. It worked perfectly!
I've always liked the idea of inverting screen colors for night time comfort, but found the end result is pretty similar in the end because all the nice dark areas you has before end up as bright white! Have a look at angel browser, it has an 'inverted' mode which does something slightly different, resulting in less extreme bright areas.
It would also be great to be able to have per-channel fine control of the colors.

Eventually. It's more complicated than it seems, actually--the mDNIe engine lets you separately set RGB for each of eight basic colors (cyan, yellow, white, black, red, etc.). But to adjust each of eight colors is overwhelming. A user sent me a clever way that would let you do some of this.
I may do a lite version with just the presets and a pro version with the ability to create up to four custom settings.
Woking fine on paranoid Android 1.3 (cm10- jelly bean) and the red view is awesome ! Thanks !

was expecting something like these forever!
The only bug I found is that one time when my screen was off and I was going to unlock, the fist half second the screen turned on the image was normal and then became red again.
but I am pretty amazed with what this app can do. Deserves a widget like the one that comes with Galaxy S3.
Congrats!

Not really a bug. The OS returns the screen to something like normal after turning it back on. As soon as GalacticNight finds out that the screen was turned on, it turns it back. But unfortunately the notification is broadcast by the OS with some delay, and so GalacticNight is a bit behind.
I could get around this by watching the system log and thereby find out sooner about the screen coming back on, but that would use more system resources, and I am not sure that's worth it for preventing this flash.
Another trick, and maybe that's the best move, would be for GalacticNight to cover up the screen with a dark overlay when the screen is being turned off, and then only remove the overlay only once it has managed to restore the color mode.
Maybe the overlay could just have a larger version of the GalacticNight logo.
I implemented the overlay in 0.99rc3. I can imagine it would be really annoying to be in the dark and get a flash of white light even for half a second, so I put up a red logo to mask the non-nightmode screen. I'd appreciate a report.
If the logo annoys, you can turn it off in GN's settings.

Is my little red galaxy overlay working fine to prevent a bright flash when you turn on the screen?
Can someone upload this as an attachment?
I can't download it (I don't know why I keep signing in and it redirects once again to the sign in page)
(and no my user/pass isn't wrong)
Hi
Work fine on the note with ICS 4.0.4 LRI XEF
Just a few ideas ( i know it can make some work )
- Does any mode can increase battery life ?
- What do you think to offer the possibility to set one or more custom settings, a widget that activate-deactivate a specific mode should be the nirvana ?
- Do you plan to put the app on the google Market ?
- If you want to make a french translation i am your man.
Thanks for your work.
it's very very useful tool!

I have this issue as well - Even though I've turned off Peek and Pocket Mode, my proximity sensor still turns on when screen is off.
Also, I definitely remember not having this issue before I'd turned Peek and Pocket Mode both on. I mean, proximity sensor was working fine when both the options were off i.e., it would turn off even after screen off; then I turned both of them on and so it started staying on after screen off, and now a few days later when I turned both options off, sensor still turns on after screen off.
Any clues to solve this?
Otherwise great ROM, gonna probably use it as daily driver

You need to disable pocket mode in lockscreen notifications and also disable active display

Update
Hello Guys
We look forward to the new update 4.6 AOSP Parandroid
Really enjoying this ROM but I have encountered two small, but not unnoticeable issues-
1) After switching from notifications to quick toggles or vice versa, the switch button is pushed off the edge of the screen as shown below-
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) Quite often, video playback is warped in black and white, again shown below-
Any suggestions on how to fix these would be much appreciated!
Is the Development stopped??? 3 months without update!!!
Well is this the ROM this Q&A thread is for? If so then the dev posted a comment 5 days ago and he's definitely still working on it.

Sorry, how do I change DPI? I can't find that anywhere in the settings. I don't seem to have many PA specific settings actually.
