[Kernel][ICS][CM9] ShadowKernel CM9 v0.6.3.3 - CM9 Beta3+ (5/29/12) - Epic 4G Android Development

Great work by our fantastic CM dev team for bringing us CM9 so quickly.
I would also like a continued huge thanks to the many talented developers out there including (in no particular order) but not limited to:
chris41g, mkasick, Rodderik, nubecoder, earthbound, toadlife, thomasskull666, DRockstar, supercurio, Ezekeel, SenseiSimple, noobnl, xcaliburninhand, k0nane, AproSamurai. Without their excellent work, I wouldn't be here.
And so I give you ShadowKernel for CM9.
As with my other CM kernels, if you choose to use it, please post any bug reports here and not in the CM9 thread. Thank you.

FAQ
Q. I have trouble getting 100MHz to stick, what do I do?
A. Try the steps in this post. Edit: This is fixed in kernel v0.6.3+
Q. Why is there a green tint when I turn the phone on?
A. That's a minor side effect of Voodoo Color. See this post.

first!! Great job!!

Wow you guys put this together RIDICULOUSLY fast...shots out to the team for this kernel!

Excellent. I was going to ask about that. That's for the heads up.

Overclocking to 1400 works perfectly!
Sent from my CM9 Epic 4G using xda premium

The amount of support the Epic 4G is getting is almost overwhelming. First CM9 and now this. I'm flashing this right now. Nothing like an overclocked ice cream sandwich. Thanks!
---------- Post added at 01:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:09 PM ----------
I overclocked to 1400 using SetCPU which went perfectly.
I'm getting this weird green screen when ever I wake the device. The entire screen just flashes green and then goes away. That's the only problem so far. I didn't get that before flashing the kernel.

I was getting that last night too. Although I can't seem to get it to happen right now, everything looks perfect. I did reflash the kernel again this morning, not sure if that made a difference. But the green tint is usually related to Voodoo Color due to the screen brightness and too low of gamma values. Keep an eye on it and see if it continues to happen under different surrounding light conditions. (i'm in a much brighter room right now than i was in last night)

Awesome.. So many people are moving on from old devices.. but the EPIC devs seem to stay.. Thanks Guys

My favorite kernel comes to CM9! Thanks!
Any feedback if I can use the cpu scaling setting in CM9? Or stick to voltage control app?

ive also noticed on some kernels the weird tint effects will come with low battery and go away when more fully charged. and yes, it is due to low gamma usually.

Install setcpu to overclock. Default clock is 1017mhz
Gingerbread 2.3.4 compiled from AOSP source.
recommended radio is latest OTA- you can get it here, just put it on your internal sd card, and reboot into bootloader. this was taked from id10terror's zip, and this rom has everything from that fix(thanks id10)- youll just need that radio(not required, just recommended)
this is a hybrid build of sorts as it still uses some cm7 drivers, build scripts and the proprietary htc vendor files from cyanogens git. All the apps and rest of the build was cloned from the latest updates of the AOSP source from android.git.kernel.org repo. i left some of cm7's framework tweaks in, and added a few small things of my own.
Everything was edited BEFORE compiling so nothing in this rom has been decompiled or hacked, so it will make a great base for themes and all that.
The way it sits right now, it is the smoothest rom ive ever used. (youll see)
rom-
-compiled from aosp source with some cm tweaks and some of my own
-completely stock theme-untouched/
-CRT screen off animation
-overscroll glow
-custom boot animation (put bootanimation.zip in /system/media)
-reboot, reboot recovery, reboot bootloader
-4 quicksettings in the status bar(wifi, bluetooth, gps, vibrate)
-accurate % battery- (wasnt gonna include this, but i know it would get asked for, plus i wanted it so i wrote the stat_sys xmls.)
-rotary unlock screen
-inspire 4g branding
-working flash player(DO NOT UPDATE FLASH)
-inspire 4g audio files and kernel should be supporting the dual mic
-cm DSP manager, rom manager, file manager & torch.apk- compiled from source and included
-ad blocking
-+ a lot more but ive been up for 2 days.
kernel-
base-CM7 kali- any cm7 kernel should work with the rom
Overclock up to 1.97ghz
-slight undervolt-can be made more aggressive for better battery with a script
-kernel updated throughout
-bfq i/o default
-on-demand(default- dont even really need anything else, battery is very good) conservative, performance- smartass will come for those who want it
-tiny rcu patched in and working from here
-'speedmod'- updated jhash.h lookup2 to lookout3 as seen here
-a whole lot more improvemnts, but agian, i need sleep.
Git is in my sig.
-
credits- anyone/everyone involved with CM

Flashing now, I just Odin'd EH17 last night and was thinking, "We need more EH17 ROMs."
Thanks marcusant.
Will report back.
Edit: When I first opened up the Music app it was one I've never seen before. But now it's the same ol' Epic music app.
Any idea what app it was? Almost looked like an Ice Cream Sandwich style app.
Another Edit: Now I see there are two Music apps. I really like the newer looking one! What is it?

I haven't ran any leaks since bamboozle because of the persistant reboots. Bamboozle never rebooted on me unless I was in a low signal zone. I hope you can work your magic on eh17 though

Must not like me, stuck in a bootloop which dumps me back into Recovery. Of course I did all the wiping and all that. Went as far as to try and reapply the kernel on top, but no such luck. Wondering if anyone else is getting the same?

EH17 fixed all of the reboot issues. I think there is a memory leak because it keeps freezing, but swapper on the market allows you to allocate more ram kind of like ready boost on windows.

try re downloading, perhaps you were downloading it while I was editing something as this is a live updated file.
I have one question: Will this ROM have CW4? or ACS Recovery 1.0.0.1/5?
Random reboots are a known bug in eh17 unless you have a trick up your sleeve. If you get reboots don't blame the rom all eh17 roms do it.

This is a kernel, not a full ROM... please use AOKP, MIUI4, or CM9 with this...
Atarashii - New/Fresh - This kernel was made to revolutionize what all of the current 'normal' Epic kernels have. I have added in tweaks and mods that were never before seen on the Epic, long forgotten, and from other devices such as the Nexus S and i9000.
Hopefully (probably) most other kernel developers will implement these new features and help keep the Epic current.
I prefer that you use NSTools to overclock and undervolt and do other tweaks. It is more featured than Voltage Control and this kernel supports it better. Voltage Control works fine too but I recommend uninstalling all cpu tools you have and installing NSTools.
I am not responsible to ANYTHING that happens to you or your phone as a result of using this kernel. Most things in this are experimental to a point but have been tested and confirmed safe.
Some of these features have NEVER been used before on the Epic, so don't expect everything that you are used to. Things can and will be different than usual.

Actually I'm liking the change in the color scheme - I was just wondering how to revert back if needed.
Another thing I noticed is that while scrolling in XDA threads it stutters. It might be just me but still wanted to point out.
As someone asked it would be really nice to know what kind of good changes we should expect from this kernel. It looks good.

Not the worst thing in the world but for about the last 4 seconds of boot and then until my sd card has been scanned, everything has a heavy green overlay.

Also NSTool won't let me set battery charge to above 96%. Not sure if that is relevant to the kernel or if that is an app "feature" though.

How to overclock
Download NSTools from the market
Go to the CPU tab
Set the max frequency to what you want
Liveoc is really buggy and I need to talk to thomasskull about some RAM things to make sure I do not brick anybody. For now, do not mess with liveoc and keep it at 100%.
How to undervolt
Download Voltage Control (this is also possible via nstools)
Slide to the voltages tab
Click on a frequency
Slide the slider to change UV value and apply
Click to collapse
So we should have both nstools and vc installed and running at the same time if Iwant to oc and uv? What kind of downside to the kernel if I want to use vc for both ocing and uving? *

I just noticed that when I unlock my phone there is a green film covering the screen for a fraction of a second.
It seems my Epic can't handle 1.4 GHz speed as it hangs and restarts, so I am decreasing the clock speed. Does anyone have issues like me at 1.4?

First off I want to say that although this ROM is an Android-based China-focused Operating System, this is NOT MIUI! This ROM is a Dianxin OS based ROM. For more information on what Dianxin OS is, visit http://en.chuangxin.com/portfolio/portfolio-news/dianxin-at-innovation-works
This ROM is still a WIP as there is plenty of things to do to it but is stable enough to be used as a daily ROM as things like 3G, WiFi, BT and obviously the phone work
This ROM has a lot of features but here are a few that I've noticed since using it....
- Build In System Optimization
- Build In Battery Booster
- Sense like pulldown Recent icons
- Classic/Advanced Mode in Settings
- MIUI like Theme Manager
- MIUI like Task Toggles in the Pulldown notification area
- Much More
Also I'm not foolish enough to think that things like this are not done by just one person, so I would like to give THANKS and credit to the following people before we start....
Swiperrat - For doing all the leg work and porting this over to the EVO
HipKat - For giving Swiperrat the idea to get this done
Atyoung - For sharing his kickass kernel and supporting Team D.I.R.T
PapaSmurf 151 - For his tweaks that I used for the build.prop, sysctl.conf and for helping me out when I was on TRN
TommyTomatoe - Just because he's a cool dude and has helped me in the past with the stuff I now do
The Dianxin OS Developers - I think this one is obvious...hahaha
All Team D.I.R.T members - Supporting each other and being cool as hell
Everyone at Tincandroid- for supporting the site and Team D.I.R.T not only here but over ACSyndicate, Rootzwiki and any forum for that matter
THE KERNEL SOURCE USED FOR THIS ROM : https://github.com/atyoung/mason-kernel-ice
http://themikmik.com/forumdisplay.php?1875-Mazda-s-Developments
- Native USB Connect doesn't work (is not there)
- Native Camcorder doesn't work (see the quick fix below)
- No 3 Way Reboot
- No Screenshot Power Option
- No FFC
- No 4G
- Netflix and Hulu Plus doesn't work
- YOU TELL ME
- Add 3 way reboot option power options
- Add Screenshot option to power options
- Add USB connect in pulldown working
- Reduce the size of the ROM overall by at least 30MBs
- Add more customization (Battery, Center Clock, Tablet Mode, etc)
- Increase battery life and performance
- Update the apps that need updating
- Throw a bit of DIRT on it and make it awesome!
- Use USB MOUNT app to Connect USB to PC
- Native Camcorder does not record (use Videocam illusion)

Is there any reason as to why you would reserve a post for no reason. You are not a member or team D.I.R.T. so it makes no sense

I wiped everything, including data, flashed the ROM and after the white HTC EVO 4G boot screen it loads a dark screen for a few seconds then reboots again.
I've tried this twice.
Holy crap Mazda! What are you doing to me.. Just flashed this and now I'm torn between this and cm9. Haha! Great work this is sweet!

This has A2SD baked in as it states in the changelog so you have to partition your sdcard correctly and then flash
Looks pretty interesting. Is this stable enough for daily use? Since its ICS based does it have any issues? Which kernel can we use with this?

[ROM][ICS]JB's CM9 (Voodoo, OC/UV Kernel, BT) - (06/29/12) - JB Test BUILD 08/13/12

Olá mundo!
Long time lurker here on XDA. This is my initial attempt on a ROM I originally built for personal use. I ended up enjoying the final product so much that I have decided to share it with the rest of you here on XDA.
Key features:
Built based on Entropy's latest build as of 06/27/12 - Thank you Entropy for your insight and words of wisdom.
OC/UV 1.6 ghz Kernel based on Entropy's/JT1134/bedwas source tree and netarchy/LinuxBozo CM7 code. Thank you Entropy, JT1134, netarchy, bedwa, and anyone else I might have missed.
A few add-ons from SGSIII leaked firmware (Launcher + Wallpaper + *more to come*) Thank you froilson for Launcher MOD.
Voodoo Sound and Screen - Thank you Supercurio, you are a true inspiration to me.
Voltage Control OC/UV - Thank you darek.xan
Work in progress:
Core base stability, specially on kernel frequency code.
Full tutorial for building both base and kernel from source on Ubuntu 12.04.
Recruit testers/helpers. Could use major assistance all around.
*Section bellow shamelessly borrowed from Entropy's original [Firmware][ICS]UNOFFICIAL CM9 post - ALL CREDIT GOES TO HIM as stated previously*
What works:
Calls
GPS
Sound
Video playback
What is not working:
TV Output - MHL
Partially working:
Camera (flash is flaky - if it's not working, change its settings in the Camera app and it may start working)
Car dock audio (possibly desk dock too, untested) - Some issues with ringtone playback when docked - This is native dock audio, not using the Car Dock Redirector app workaround. Thanks go to StevenHarperUK of the GT-I9100 community for reworking CM9's dock audio code to permit this to work.
Wifi - It frequently loses connection when the device is asleep. Most likely needs some SDHCI driver tweaks to match the N7000 wifi driver.
Wifi Direct - A little glitchy but mostly working with I777/N7000. Won't talk to a P7510 (Tab 10.1) though.
Bluetooth - A2DP (music) and SCO (call audio) now works. However BT power management (LPM) is currently disabled, so BT may eat your battery when on.
Known issues:
SetCPU seems to be unable to set the minimum frequency to 100 MHz.
Facebook contact sync has been blocked by Google in ICS - this is universal to ICS on all devices I'm aware of. Facebook got what they deserved here.
Installation instructions-from a Gingerbread firmware with "red CWM":
Place this release and an ICS gapps release on your SD card.
Flash this ZIP in CWM
Reboot - you will get stuck at the Samsung screen
Reboot to recovery again using the three-finger salute - hold down VolUp+VolDn+Power until the device reboots, release Power after the reboot, continue holding VolUp+VolDn
Go to Mounts and Storage and format: system, data, cache
Flash this ZIP a second time, then flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

I could... or you could just extract it off the ROM yourself, but what would be the purpose of that? It will likely not work on any other CM9 based ROM unless it is based on Entropy's 05/27/12 build.
Every time one of these new ICS roms gets posted, I get super excited for a split second, thinking maybe BT has been fixed. Silly me
