I just bought a tab 7 plus, and when I connected using kies it detected that I have a firmware update. However I have installed so many things since I bought it and also rooted it. There are also many things in the 16gb internal storage (nothing saved in my sdcard since internal still have free space). What I want to ask is, if I want to update using kies, does it data wipe my tab? Do I lose everything in my internal storage after updating? If yes, I plan to just stick to this tab without updating :-\
Sent from my GT-P6200 using Tapatalk
If you update using kies it will not erase data on the sd card but since you have rooted your tab i suggest you make a backup of your data & apps first using TB then upgrade it so you won't lose anything and can restore it back later.
Edit : updating firmware may result in your tab to lose root
if you do a factory data reset it will restore back to factory default setting and wipe out eveything in the internal memory as well.

My first update on P6200 galaxy tab 7.0 plus comes OTA. After update was completed all things are still there. Apps, contacts, settings, all. But I dont had root before update.

That's not true. Kies is the official way to update your Sammy device (beside OTA) . It does not wipe anything. If it would (without warning you) samsung would get a class action suite in a heartbeat.

So if I don't have memory card, will all my data in internal memory be lost too? I have backed up using titannium backup, but the backup is in internal memory.

are you using cmw? if i'm not mistaken it's not compatible with updates from samsung.. if not, don't worry, it won't wipe anything. the worse is it will wipe out the settings back to default.. even flashing using ODIN doesn't wipe anything.. but as a precaution... do backup your data..
Update via Kies will not wipe your data
I bought my gt7+ about 2 weeks before the firmware upgrade that is currently available was made available. By the time they released this firmware upgrade I had several weeks of data, apps I installed and had rooted my tab. I performed the update via Kies and the update did not remove any of my data or the apps I installed. The only thing it did effect was root. After the upgrade my device was no longer rooted but that was not a big deal since rooting this device is so super easy. It took me less than 2 minutes and my device was once again rooted.

Positive. Use the latest version of kies and you'll be fine.
thanks so much everyone for all the replies, really appreciate them. I have updated and i didn' lose any data. Even my root is not lost ;-) h
Updating My S5
I'm about to update my S5 soon with Kies, but I've got A LOT of songs & pics I don't wanna lose. Is Kies gonna wipe anything?

I recieved the OTA update for the G2x to the latest v21y firmware and Gingerbread 2.3.4 OS. Everything seems to have gone fine, except that now in Google Play apps it gives me the following error when trying to install or update *any* app:
'Error downloading "xxx". There is insufficient space on the device.'
Of course, I have an additional 8 GB micro SD card that is almost totally empty, and the internal phone storage has 3.2 GB available. The phone memory lists 0.94 GB available as well.
I followed the usual advice of clear data / clear cache for both Google Play and Download Manager. I unmounted/mounted both phone and SD cards. I turned off the phone, pulled the battery for a bit, took out the external SD card, put the battery back in, and booted back up. I rebooted a bunch of times. I put the external SD card back in. I cleared off extra crud from phone storage via a file manager, and I cleared caches on all installed apps.
This has never happened before, and directly after the update it has happened 100% of the time I have tried.
Any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else who got the update? (I'm completely on stock, btw, still not out of warranty.)

Does that require rooting? I haven't installed CWM yet, as I was holding off on all the experimentation until my year was up.
If there's no other usual thing to try, if T-mo doesn't come back with a reasonable response I suppose that's the next step.

No it requires Nvflashing cwm. But that will ruin your "warranty" on a end of life phone

You can factory reset without root. That's what T-Mobile will tell you to do anyways. I've went through six g2x in the past two weeks...that's their answer to everything lol

I root everything I get on day one. Nothing stock and limiting my user options appeals to me. You can always revert to stock or if you hard brick no one could tell anyways.

So a factory reset fixed it. I didn't have to wipe the phone and external SD, and so I'm just reinstalling apps and setting up a few of them. This was a good time for some spring cleaning anyway, I suppose.
It was probably some stupid permissions thing, but without root I can't even fix that.

What is this update supposed to accomplish anyway? I'm rooted and trying ROMS pretty much every week (since no ICS rom works for me as a daily driver). Should I / can I do the update to 21y?
V21y 2.3.4 Rooted Touch Key lights
so everything else works fine when it comes to rooted app root request, but for some reason when a touch key light app request permisson it can do the job of adjusting the touchkey brightness, however the screen becomes very unresponsive, to the point where you cant slide left and right... I have run out of ideas as to why this is? has anyone else experienced this? I like to be able to turn that brightness down
Will I loose everything on my phone if I update? Should I take out my SD card before I do the update?
I will be using keis when I get home tonight
No it will not remove. I updated through Kies and did not remove my data.. However I did backup my data anyway

i dont have sd card. Sorry dont know about it. Just take it out
I didn't lose any data or apps but it will trash you home screens. They revert to factory defaults I think. I did my update with my SD card in with no issues there.
Update was fairly painless except for my trashed home screens that I spent a lot of time getting the way I wanted them. Even though the update was easy, I haven't been very happy with ICS. Touchwiz has force closed a bunch. Still working on what widget(s) I'm using that may be causing that. Seems laggy also. Maybe things will get better. I really don't want to have to do a factory reset and start clean.
Backup your data. I lost all my info. After updating to ics I was stuck on the att logo had to factory reset to get my phone working again.

they put 4.0.4
but the internal memory became only 10 GB
after it was 12.75 GB
why is that?
and can i install apps and games in external memory?
i think 10 GB it pit small now
I refer you to this for your reading pleasure.

but is there a problem to have only 9.75 gb?
It can damage the phone?

What they did apparently is perform the re-partition action that you can do using the process in the thread. It simply patches memory around the bad blocks and so your device now works, but some of the original memory is missing because its been patched out of the partition map. There is no danger. JUst be sure not to do a factory reset on stock ICS ROM or the problem could occur again.

Yeah, the same happened to me, I went from 12gb down to 6gb after re-partitioning myself.
Not really bothered though as I'd rather have a device with 6gb than an expensive paperweight. At least we have the option of using an sd card to transfer data to (but only if your on honeycomb) or for moving your movies and music to if on ICS.
OK
now i have cwm recovery with ics
i think now there is no problem in wiping data from the cwm
but what is more staple and faster the 4.0.4 ics or the cm10? or paranoid 2.50?

Stock firmware is the most stable. Speed is the same for all.
Soon there will be stock JB 4.1.2, next week in fact if the published schedule is correct
i hope that
but some says the Samsung let us and will be no 4.1.2 to us

NO idea what you are saying, but Samsung already published the official update schedule and the P62xx should be starting JB updates next week, depending on where you live.
i live in Egypt
i hope it come soon
No matter where did u live, you can still safely flash latest JB (if samsung releases it) using odin. It's way too easy.

Here is the problem. I have my Galaxy Ace plus on my hand now. Two days ago, I charge it inside my magnet-case. While charging I saw my phone is restarting automatically. I already take the battery out for a day and I try it again. My phone go to the home screen, it is, but only for fewer than 10 second. My assumpsion, that my phone is disrupted by the magnetic radiation. However, I already consider to update the firmware or hard reset. But, is there any other solution? Or could somebody tellme how to update the firmware or probably hard reset it?
Thanks in advanve

First of all is your Ace Plus rooted?? Have you installed clockworkmod recovery and created nandroid backup?? Have you installed a custom ROM or kernel??
If not, you must be on stock, u better try saving your data like contacts, messages etc on your computer/laptop and do a factory reset! It'll be there system setting...
And what you mean by "update the firmware"?? How you planning to do that??
And if I were you, I wouldn't use that magnetic case!

I haven't rooted my Ace Plus and neither use the clockwordmod. Absolutely I am in stock right now. That's what I concern about that how to back up my contact and message if my phone cannot be kept on even for a minute. If I can make a back-up especially for the contacts in my phone, I will directly take a factory reset. Or, is there any way to get access to internal/usb storage while the condition of the phone is like what I've said (turned on in 10 second) ?
'Firmware update' I mean here is, to update the android version or on the other way is to put a custom ROM.
Dude for backing up try using kies!! Or just save sd card data on your computer! If you can, download my backup from play store and backup your data!! Or if nothing works save contacts on sim and forget the rest! Then go to setting, there should be a reset option and choose factory reset data!! If you still have problem after restarting, take it to service centre!!
And that firmware update is a minor update!! Even I had that when I bought my SGA+!! It's not major android update!!
And dude can I get some thanks?? Just click the "thanks" button below!! :victory:

Dear friend, I guess I have a solution for your problem but you need to answer my two questions:
1-Are you running GingerBread 2.3.6?
2-Switch off your phone (I suggest removing the battery and replacing it first)
Hold the following buttons at the same time (hold the power button at last): HOME, VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and POWER.
Your phone should boot now in your stock recovery mode, just wait for 10 or more seconds, does your phone reboot by itself after this period?

Ok,, This is what happened
I was in stock 4.1.2 and installed Custom ROM,, since that I felt lost few of photos and videos. I didn't feel good with that Custom ROM so I installed back to stock 4.1.2 and automatically upgraded to 4.2.2. And since that I lost greater than before. I used many recovery software to recover my lost but I had nothing. I decided back to 4.1.2 but something worse happened,, 3/4 of my video and gallery disappear,, :crying::crying::crying:
Perhaps someone know what should I do or anyone had same experience like me?

You're welcome I'm always happy to help.. Well the problem is I couldn't find any way to recover the old data... so was forced to completely format my tab using CWM recovery to get back the space of almost 6 GB taken by my old data.. if you can somehow get back to the old partition then it might be possible to get it back but sadly i wasn't able to find anything on the net though.. BTW it didn't happened again though so far and yes you are right it only happened on my tab... I flashed new ROMs multiple times on HTC desire C and Samsung Galaxy Y DUOS but this never happened..
