hey all, I'm probably over looking the obvious here, but it seema every time I play a HD game (veggie samurai, osmos HD) my phone shuts itself off after hanging for a minute... can anyone think as to why that might happen? I'm not a huge gamer, but I do like the stuff I use to work... so it's a bit of a peeve.
any insight would be greatly appreciated! cheers!
oh, I'm using TPC v3, oc to 1.7, uc 192, if that helps.

Droid Overclock is an app I ran across on the Market today with all sorts of nice features.
It may have been out for awile, I just didnt see it.
It costs $1.50. Very Nice App
Looks like it does alot more then setcpu
Oh yeah, I bought this app when I had my d2. Wasn't sure if it supported the incredible though and I just use the built in overclocking in CM.
Its a sweet app though and jrummy did a nice job with the interface.

What exactly is overclocking and what does it do? Sorry for the noob question

Makes your processor operate at a faster speed, speeding up your phone. It kills your battery faster though.

Actually (What effects screen brightness and OC CPU have on battery) speeding up your cpu doesn't effect that battery as much as you think its very minimal. So overclock all you want
Does it harm your phone in any way?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
This actually looks a lot better than SetCPU. I like it.
If you overclock too high, to a incompatible setting, the phone will just go into a loop mode. The setting won't be stable.. it errors itself and can't correct it. So you need to scale it back down. Sorry if I don't know all the terms and such.. dinc's are fast just to begin with. I oc'd so I could try and get better benchmark scores. It worked and the phone was stable to where i could use it all the time problem free. I managed to get scores I could be.. once that happened I stopped clocking up, and started scaling back. Undervolting the system with a different kernel / governer setting will yield you the best battery life..

Wanted to know if anyone plays this game on the Droid charge. If so do you lag alot while playing? For some reason the game has been lagging so bad it's unplayable. I think it might have to do with my ram. Can anyone let me know if they are having this issue if not let me know what ROM you are running. I'm on the new humble GB.

Anyone have GTA3 from market working on their charge?
Mine downloaded fine but then just sits at a black screen the goes back to launcher after about 5 seconds.
I'm running infinity 1204

Sorry to say, but our Samsung Charges don't have the nVidia Tegra 2 that GTA3 for Android was built around... You're SOL man. Might still be able to refund your purchase and get yourself a PSP. All jokes aside though I did the same thing and looked it up after. Only phones with the chipset Tegra 2 can operate GTA3.
Have you tried using Chainfire 3D?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Tried with Chainfire, no luck. Chainfire emulates Tegra's decoding and processing, but can't emulate its hardware, IIRC, so some games (Riptide GP) work perfectly, some games (Galaxy on Fire 2) are glitchy as hell but playable, and some (well, this) just don't work at all.
There's some people without tegras workings. Just depends I guess.

Probably need better hardware...

There may be hope. I was poking around in the Galaxy Tab forums (I have one, plus it has the same CPU and GPU). lo and behold, I found the same thread there. One person said this:

Might be good news:
I found out through LogCat that the problem might lie within the PowerVR SGX540. Which is in fact the same GPU as the Galaxy Nexus, in which Rockstar states will fix soon. So yeah, it should work, just wait a bit for an update.

Still not working for me after the update
It worked for me after the update, however, the game lagged pretty bad and eventually froze. It didn't FC, it eventually came back but it wasn't playable. I haven't tried it again since.
So after uninstalling GTA3, I am not unable to re-install it. The Market claims my device in not compatible with it. How did I download it before then??? Any ideas here?

This sums it up for me, our poor Hummingbird can't keep up
Still worth the $3, it's nostalgic, and good to keep for a future more powerful device

Luckily, I just got an ASUS Transformer and GTA3 runs amazingly well.
ive been trying to get gta 3 to play smoothly but to not much success as of yet... im wondering if anyone has been playing it on this device, well playing it smoothly that is... and how they got to that result. im on barebone, with antonx's most recent kernel, thanks for the help, you guys havent let me down yet! (fingers crossed)

you can't get it to to run smoothly because it isn't supported on our device

yea you can use it and everything, but since it's not supported, it wont work as smoothly asa you want it to be. If you uninstall it, go to the market and look it up, it'll say not supported on our device
ive been screwing with chainfire 3d trying to get it running better, ive gotten it to be on the verge of playable but it could be better, im gonna tinker with it some more and see what i can come up with. thanks for the info though.

Have you oc'd at all? Or set scaling to performance?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Off you are on a bml ROM (haven't cheeked out bare bonne so i don't know) you can flash lightning zap then adjust the governor settings... There are instructions on how to do so linked in the OP... That should smooth out fps refresh rate...

Im on the oc kernel so yeah i got that bad boy cranked up to 1400, it was my understanding that only ondemandx and smartass worked in regards to scaling on this particular kernel, but hey i'll try just about anything, if that makes a difference i will let you know.

Do you suppose id have better luck on a mtd rom in general? But ive installed lightning zap plenty of times, so i will give it a go and if i get something real smooth and playable i will report back how that came about. i appreciate all your work thanks.

Each phone is different, tweaks and such that improves your phone performance may not help the next phone. That is also why the game might be unplayable on your device. Also most newer roms have the various tweaks built in. So installing them twice can end up harming your performance.
I was in the same boat as OP. I used Gremlin Remover, and started from scratch, and now I'm getting decent performance from GTA. Still lags some. But not as bad as used to. Definately playable.
It works just fine for my wife.

Ive upgraded to the S3 gave my son my ns4g. He plays games on it and it keeps freezing up. Running rasbean. With matrix. Tried CM10 stable too.
Any suggestions on a rom and kernel?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
It is subjective to the game you (your son) are trying to play. Apart from that, check the CPU frequencies and use a bit of overclocked frequency. Also, try to shift the Governor
He played them on his evo4g I guess ill switch it back to that.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
try jellyshot rom with marmite kernel.you probably won't have any issues for games destinated for nexus s.i play gameloft games with severe demands and have no lags or forced closures.
Like others said previously, a little overclock can go a long way. Just be careful not to overdo it!
